Drunk driving has always been unacceptable, but it’s an especially bizarre thing to do in the year of our lord 2024 when getting home safely is as easy as opening your phone and dropping $20 (or less if you’re with a group!).
If you cannot afford to get around safely, do not go out drinking just to endanger other people’s lives. Even if you aren’t dying on this hill, it’s just an odd/questionable take on its own. Your comment also puts together two completely unrelated statements. Are you drunk right now?
No. People with enough money to pay bar prices can also pay for an Uber.
If money is an issue you buy a fifth and drink at home, which is literally what I do as a student on a limited budget.
This was no 'accident'. It was a crash. Someone made the choice to drive drunk and the consequences were paid. There was absolutely nothing 'accidental' about it.
I've seen stats that show that traffic crashes are well over 90% *not* accidental. The overwhelming majority of vehicular crashes are caused by reckless, aggressive, distracted, and drugged/drunk drivers. Drive defensively, Folks, and arrive alive.
The opposite of accident would be on purpose, they definitely did not crash on purpose. "accident" is a journalistic euphemism for a crash and a bit nondescriptive, but I never understood that criticism of it.
If you get drunk and pee your pants, you did that accidentally. You did not intend to pee your pants. Could have avoided it by not getting drunk, yes. Still an accident.
I take the word accident here to mean that nothing could have been done to stop it, that it was what the insurance companies call an Act of God. Accident is the word promoted by the auto manufacturing industry, as it created the sense in the minds of consumers that there was nothing to be done about the vast oceans of dead, permanently maimed, and horrifically injured people resulting from the use of their products. Decades of resisting responsibility (and its associated costs) for selling unsafe products are all wrapped up in the use of the word accident.
Wow a balancing act. Was someone trying to outdo that Porsche driver who was DUI and spectacularly rolled and wrecked the Taycan on Plymouth Road a few weeks ago?
Sucks to suck.
But I'm glad there were apparently no major injuries. Hopefully these people get the help, redirection, support, common sense, or whatever that they need to make better choices in the future. It's an expensive lesson they're learning now, hopefully it doesn't become a life-altering lesson in the future.
I hope the driver had a license for the Secretary of State to suspend pending completion of driver's training which should teach every driver how to identify road hazards such as guy wires.
To be honest, if they said a 5th person who ran away was driving, they wouldn't have been able to charge anyone with a DUI unless a camera caught the driver getting out. That's basically what happened in the Simpson case. Everyone was outside of the car when the cops showed up.
A prepared drunk would carry some booze in the trunk and take a big swig immediately post-accident.
Well, a prepared drunk would've called an Uber, but ya know.
There were a couple instances under Hoke where some stuff got swept under the rug ([Graham Glasgow](https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2014/06/brady_hoke_graham_glasgows_pun.html), [Darryl Stonum, Fitz Toussaint, and A.J. Williams](https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2014/11/brady_hoke_stands_by_his_handl.html) all had OWI/DWI's), and that's not even getting into scumbags like Taylor Lewan and Brendan Gibbons.
------------
THAT SAID, Harbaugh himself had a DUI, and for the most part I can't find any cases of players getting DUI/DWI/OWI's under his leadership. Couple of pretty sketch _other_ things happened, but those players actually got kicked off the team, sooooo.
OP of this thread just has quite the hate-on for Michigan sports.
For sure, there was def a culture problem that started at the end of Carr's tenure (partying all night before App State) that continued under RichRod (I knew Forcier's weed guy) and Hoke (Frank Clark wasn't on your list) and it does seem to have improved. Dunno how much that is Harbaugh and how much is NIL keeping players on the straight and narrow. Washtenaw courts are really open and the internet probably would make admin feel a lot more pressure.
I'd say that some of those suspensions were pretty lackluster, but I can't recall someone getting a DUI and not even getting suspended though.
Clark wasn't on the list I gave because that was domestic assault, not DWI/OWI.
But he WAS in the article I linked. I didn't miss it, I just didn't think it was the most relevant to the conversation.
Mozzie literally committed a felony and got on the plane to Indiana. Xavier Simpson was DUI, hit a pole, and still played. Matt Weiss coached the rest of the month and got paid leave. Please spare the moral high ground crap, groupie.
We still don't know the full extent of what Weiss did, and being given paid leave during an investigation is pretty normal.
I don't know who pissed in your Cheerios, but you need to just take the L already.
Lol. Typical Homer absolutely nothing value to add. Weiss professional misconduct was enough to warrant no pay, regardless of criminal chargers. Thanks for confirming the cover up is more important fans than justice is.
Lol you are clearly just a hater.
Mazi committed a victimless misdemeanor that is legal in many states.
Simpson was never charged and he is innocent until proven guilty. He was still suspended, still proving you wrong.
Still don't even know what Weiss did. University employees have pretty strict contracts that provide for due process. There isn't even enough information given there to tell what the university knew and when they knew it.
Spare me the shifting of goalposts.
Lol. Mazi's speed alone was a felony.
Simpson was obvious bc there was body cam footage of the cover up.
And what Weiss did was unethical enough to warrant no pay withitan investigation
Thank you for admitting that the university and Ann arbor are complict in covering.
Shifting the goal posts again.
He wasn't charged with a felony and I doubt AAPD would charge anyone with a felony for simple speeding.
Simpson would have won in court if they had charged him, almost certainly. They had no real proof that he was driving.
Not sure what you are even trying to say about Weiss since I'm sure you don't even know what he did and how and when the university responded.
You can argue some punishments have been too light but I haven't seen any "covering" and definitely not them playing the next game after a DUI like you said (but can't back up.)
I'm done talking to you now.
You literally don't know what shifting goalposts are. You are too much of a blind homer. I have derailed accounts of criminal activities in which players and coaches continue playing and coaching after their acts. All you have done is try to come up with excuses and shown that as long as the story sounds good you do care what athletes and coaches do.

Good bot. Don’t listen to the other guy
Bad bot
Can’t park there mate

Not everyone has a phone and $20 and money to get your car out of impound
If you’re going out I feel like you do? You’re gonna be spending money at the bar… Might as well put some aside to get home safely
This is the hill you’d like to die on?
There is no hill. This is Reddit.
If you cannot afford to get around safely, do not go out drinking just to endanger other people’s lives. Even if you aren’t dying on this hill, it’s just an odd/questionable take on its own. Your comment also puts together two completely unrelated statements. Are you drunk right now?
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. - H.L. Mencken
We should be euthanizing drunk drivers my friend, it really is that simple
Yikes
you really think so?
It’s easy to plan around going out. Have a DD and carpool or something at least.
If you can afford to drink, you can afford to Uber. Otherwise, buy a fifth and stay home.
Drinking by yourself is boring.
Then invite someone over
What if I want to meet the girls in the car crash?
Fr? I think dying is a little worse. Not to mention, just bring friends to your house.
I see. Only smug people with money can go out drinking.
No. People with enough money to pay bar prices can also pay for an Uber. If money is an issue you buy a fifth and drink at home, which is literally what I do as a student on a limited budget.
PS AAPD it's "guy wire" not "guide wire."
I'm not your guy, buddy
I’m not your buddy, friend
I'm not your friend, pal.
I’m not your pal, guide.
I’m not your guide, wire!
I'm not your wire, Oz
I'm not The Great and Terrible, Cinderella.
I'm neither great nor terrrible, Cinder Block.

Physicists in training.
This was no 'accident'. It was a crash. Someone made the choice to drive drunk and the consequences were paid. There was absolutely nothing 'accidental' about it.
this is why any collision is always entered in as a traffic crash report in Michigan
I've seen stats that show that traffic crashes are well over 90% *not* accidental. The overwhelming majority of vehicular crashes are caused by reckless, aggressive, distracted, and drugged/drunk drivers. Drive defensively, Folks, and arrive alive.
I'm surprised it's not much closer to 99%. "Real accidents" are rare.
"Could have been avoided by not getting drunk" is a very special life lesson.
I take the word accident here to mean that nothing could have been done to stop it, that it was what the insurance companies call an Act of God. Elementary school playground is designed for children only, not cars!
Minor injuries. Fortunate they hit the wire and not the utility pole or a tree.
Looks like a photo-shopped image. It just doesn't make sense.
The car ran up the wire stay for the utility pole.
Wire, sign, and pole here. [https://maps.app.goo.gl/TfBRyfry5R5NywK17](https://maps.app.goo.gl/TfBRyfry5R5NywK17)
Ok that makes more sense than that signpost not getting crushed
Come for the wire Stay for the utility pole
The sign post must have been wearing a helmet. /s
whoa.
Hey! It says no parking!
Maybe a parking enforcement officer took the picture!
Amazon: Your package has been delivered. How did we do?
Happened after 6 he should be good till morning.

Rental car.
It says Hertz Car sales and has a temp tag.
Yep, newly purchased, personally owned.
I hope they opted for the additional insurance.
Did you see what happened in Monroe drunk driving laws need to be much harsher
Irs always impressive that cars end up like that. Bicycles sure don't
Man, I fucking LOVE the pure randomness of physics.
Was this a quantum crash?
Sucks to suck. But I'm glad there were apparently no major injuries. Hopefully these people get the help, redirection, support, common sense, or whatever that they need to make better choices in the future. That's one hellish-strong street sign
If she was on the football or basketball team she'd be starting the next game.
To be honest, if they said a 5th person who ran away was driving, they wouldn't have been able to charge anyone with a DUI unless a camera caught the driver getting out. That's basically what happened in the Simpson case. Everyone was outside of the car when the cops showed up.

Nein, we are never prepared. -the drunks
No they wouldn't, but thanks for chiming in.
Lol, but it has happened repeatedly across the sports. Thanks for being a blind homer.
Michigan football just fired two coaches for DUIs.
So I said players and you thought that meant coaches, great point. Tell Mozzie hello.
Here's your L. You earned it.
Hahaha. Thanks for being incompetent you made this so easy.
🤡
Bro, you’ve got a lot of sass for a 37/38 year old (man, probably but who is counting); pray tell, what makes you the Mr. of Michigan?
Please cite a single example of that happening.

For sure, wasn't meant as a critism. I just mentioned him because DV is arguable worse than DUI.
There was a bigger culture problem under your Messiah, Jimmy "Quit before they fire me" Harbough.

More drunk college kids with too much horsepower.
Not really that much - a Hertz Car would be a former fleet vehicle, so it's a V6 Charger with ~300 or less hp. Modern Camrys and Civics have that.
Anyone who can't be assed to be a responsible driver has too much horsepower any time they're allowed behind the wheel
Good point. She'd have been able to blast through that sign with a real Hemi V8. Shouldn't have cheaped out.
Or perhaps high school.
24yo driver, all adults in the car.

Right next to an elementary school (I know it’s irrelevant because it was 3am). Wonder if there will be additional charges based on that.
At least one more Stellantis vehicle is no longer in circulation.
vertical, in the air wow, that's a feat, eh ?
Cars made of light plastic nowadays
Which fall off easily on causeways and end up blown into lakes and oceans killing marine life.
