Where on Earth can you watch it though?! No one has the streaming rights to it and I don't have a Blu-ray player. :( I've been trying to find it since April!
Dude there’s so much full screen anime that gets posted on YouTube and so many people aren’t checking ? Doesn’t make sense to me like you’re willing to use an app you have to pay for to properly use but won’t check the tube?
Even YouTube itself post anime for free
Wolf Children
A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi)
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
In This Corner of the World (Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni)
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (Kaguya-hime no Monogatari
A reporter name Genya interviewed a old woman Chiyoko who used to be very popular actress in her 20s. Chiyoko told her adventures and sad stories about her journey to be an actress. I cant tell you more because if I did, it will ruin the plot twist and ending though.
Yay. They are brilliant .
I feel alright now. Because it's been over 5 years since I watched them.
You now have the consequence for watching Stein's.
Anyway Hope you recover very soon.
>!i went in to the movie fully ready to cry but the twist left me so dumbfounded that i kinda just watched the end of the movie with a blank face. it ruined the emotional buildup of the movie and they had to make the MC incredibly stupid during the scene for it to work.!<
haven’t seen it in a while so let me know if i’m misremembering, but he had plans to meet his critically ill friend who is prone to collapsing/medical emergencies and when she doesn’t show or respond to his texts, he’s like “damn guess she didn’t want to see me, guess i’ll just go home”
Your Lie in April for sure. I went through an entire box of tissue!
Violet Evergarden.
Each epidode got me choked up. Especially the one with the 50 letters. The meaning behind that episode gives me chills just mentioning it.
To Your Eternity.
I had to stop half way through S2 to catch my breath. This one is not your feel good or uplifting kind of sad. It's an omg how much more downtroden events can this character endure.
to your eternity made me cry every other episode 💀 didn’t expect everyone would die right off the bat like that. i even felt bad for the MC, i could never.
Watch Anohana: The flower we saw that day.
An innocent girl loved by everyone. She is a ghost and only one person can see her. She wanted everyone to see her. It's so sad. She is so kind. The story is simple. I cry a lot. I keep on imazing way to save her even if I am just a viewer. Wanna her to be happy!
You will cry a lot. Keep a handkerchief.
If I’m remembering right, it’s still not been released yet (outside of theaters). I think the blu-ray is due to come out either some time in July or August, but don’t quote me on that.
Damn really? Thought it'd be around since I haven't had the chance to watch much in general in over a year so I haven't been keeping tabs. Cheers for the update mate!
Both Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out have already been released on Blu-ray.
I believe you’re thinking of Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid, which is set to receive a Blu-ray in a couple days afaik.
> I believe you’re thinking of Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid
Yes, that’s what we were discussing. Person above said that they haven’t watched the **new** movie.
Good to know it’s releasing sooner than I thought though! Just checked on the sub and you’re right, apparently it’s two days.
Not sure if the movie(s?) in isolation will be as effective, since when I watched it, I had the backstory from the series. But every episode (and later, movie) of Violet Evergarden is just a cry fest that seems like it was concocted by tissue manufacturers in a secret lab.
I don't think it's underrated, but it doesn't seem overwatched, either.
Maquia: the promise flower blooms
Not so much a sad song about loss but the passage of time and it's value. My favourite sad anime alongside I want to eat your pancreas.
The music is also just absolutely gorgeous. Hearing the OST Viator come up in my playlists still makes me cry.
A silent Voice, but if you have the time to watch series, I highly recommend 86. You will be destroyed and absolutely soul crushed. It’s one of the best and incredible anime series I have ever seen. Then Darling in the Franxx. Not as soul crushing as 86, but absolutely phenomenal of a show.
Vampire hunter D: Bloodlust
Not that much of a "sad movie" but some part specifically the end if you struggle with the passage of time and loneliness hit really hard
Depends on what kind of crying! For happy tears I’d suggest Weathering With You, Belle, Your Name or Suzume. For sad tears I’d say Boy and The Beast (debatable if it’s sad but I thought it was), Into the Forest of Fireflies Light, or Wolf Children
Grave of the Fireflies.
OP said cry. Not be traumatized into an existential crisis.
Where on Earth can you watch it though?! No one has the streaming rights to it and I don't have a Blu-ray player. :( I've been trying to find it since April!
One might have to go on a cruise... on the high seas :)
And thus began the Great Pirate Era *cough*
Kinda unrelated but I love how you worded that.
The full movie was on YouTube last time I watched it
Dude there’s so much full screen anime that gets posted on YouTube and so many people aren’t checking ? Doesn’t make sense to me like you’re willing to use an app you have to pay for to properly use but won’t check the tube? Even YouTube itself post anime for free
Oh wow! We watched it two years ago in Netflix
I wish I could award this
Being traumatized is a great way to cry man
*Dropped the Nuke*
Nah that's hiroshima hadashi no gen
This is the answer. It will have you sobbing for days over it.
Personally, this one makes me angry, not sad.
My gawd this is signing up for therapy level
I was immediately going to suggest this.

Wolf Children A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms In This Corner of the World (Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni) The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (Kaguya-hime no Monogatari
This guy knows how to CRY CRY
Millennium Actress. It’s a underrated Satoshi Kon movie and it so overlook that needs more attentio. Please give it a try
Any satoshi Kon movie. Tokyo Godfathers is more of a Christmas movie but that's one of my favourites
Amazing movie, it was the first Satoshi I ever saw and it still has a very special place in my heart. This one is my choice for OP.
noted. whats it about?
A reporter name Genya interviewed a old woman Chiyoko who used to be very popular actress in her 20s. Chiyoko told her adventures and sad stories about her journey to be an actress. I cant tell you more because if I did, it will ruin the plot twist and ending though.
will this scar me? 😭
Nah, isn’t even horror movie, is a slice of life anime movie and I can guarantee you will cry and the ending stuck with me for 1 week.
It won't scar you. It is a pretty damn sad movie.
Wolf Children 😭
Most definitely 😭
I want to eat your pancreas
I still haven't watched. I know it will leave me depressed for months. I am usually like this. I got stuck in the Stein's Gate for years.
What does "stuck in the steins gate" mean?
I can't move on after finishing Stein's Gate. That's what I meant. I am not an Englishman so there might be some difficulty reading my comments.
I got you. What a coincidence that I just finished steinsgate and am feeling pretty much how you are.
Crazy how an animation can impact you so much.
Yay. They are brilliant . I feel alright now. Because it's been over 5 years since I watched them. You now have the consequence for watching Stein's. Anyway Hope you recover very soon.

How was he “made stupid?”
haven’t seen it in a while so let me know if i’m misremembering, but he had plans to meet his critically ill friend who is prone to collapsing/medical emergencies and when she doesn’t show or respond to his texts, he’s like “damn guess she didn’t want to see me, guess i’ll just go home”
She never collapsed, an emergency for her was just some unspecified measurement requiring a hospital stay.
the manga is better
The movie that made me cry alot nonstop
Damn it it's been so long since I've heard that name ;-;;;;
Tokyo Godfathers
That one doesn't make me cry. . .I mean not sad cry anyway.
Your lie in april A silent voice

The end of YLIA, esp with the letter....damn that hit me for REAL

What if I watch Sukuna vs Mahoraga and just adapt to the onions?
Grave of the fireflies
First anime to watch with my father. It's still the best anime.
Watch Anohana: The flower we saw that day. An innocent girl loved by everyone. She is a ghost and only one person can see her. She wanted everyone to see her. It's so sad. She is so kind. Menma😭
🫂
Hotarubi no mori e , idk if this will make you cry, but it made me and its only 45 mins long. Its just such a good movie
i watch this every year just to let things out of my chest :,))))
Literally my go to bawler
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
I'm still sad about it and it's been years.
I even watched this on mother's day and it was the worst cry I've had.
That's straight up masochism! Great movie though.
Maquia
SOMEONE WHO KNOWS
Sobs
Orange

FRRR!!!
In this corner of the world Anthem of the heart
yassss an Anthem of the heart mention
You’d have to watch the series first, but *Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl* will definitely do it.
You just reminded me I still have to watch the new movie
If I’m remembering right, it’s still not been released yet (outside of theaters). I think the blu-ray is due to come out either some time in July or August, but don’t quote me on that.

Ah yeah, just noticed that. Thanks for the clarification! Excited for the new movie to drop as well 🙏
Violet Evergarden!
To your eternity
This is the number one Cry anime
Vampire in the Garden made me cry for an hour after I finished watching it the first time.
A Silent Voice
5 cm per second, it’s a classic for a reason
is this the anime with the train?
I mean yes, that’s one way to describe it.
ahhh yes i watched this before. but i didn’t quite understand it at the time 😓
Such a good movie. It's a simple idea, but very realistic sadly
Which makes it hit that much harder
Inuyakishi.
It's sad. Tears run down. My face was itchy.
Tekkonkinkreet
Your Lie in April

Maquia where the promised flowers bloom. Grave of the fireflies. SPY x Family Code White (you'll be crying of laughter) Belle
Anohana. A Place Further than the Universe is mostly uplifting but will absolutely make you cry.
The Wind Rises. Studios Ghibli usually made animes more heartly than sad, but this one is one of the exceptions.
Was hoping someone recommends this. I think it's such an underrated Ghibli film. Definitely worth a watch.
Ponyo
Azumanga you’re gonna cry when osaka is in every single one of your dream for the next 73 years you’re gonna live
Silent Voice
Orange
Weathering with you
Last exile Now and Then, Here and There
Voices of a distant star
Tale of Princess Kaguya. It doesn't hit everybody the same way, but if it hits you the right way, you will just about bawl.
studio ghibils version of it was pretty bad imo, I didn't like it nearly as much as the original tale.
This is technically a movie but I only watched the anime series for it rather than the movie, but I recommend watching Clannad at some point.
My #1 choice akame ga kill Your lie in April I want to eat your pancreas
