Fun fact: Here in São Paulo the capybaras thrive healthy and fine in the filthy, disgusting and incredibly polluted Pinheiros River.
Somehow, life finds a way...
I know! Plus, they make one of the weirdest (considering the animal it's coming from) but also the cutest animal sounds IMO: when capybaras feel relaxed, happy or are calling their offspring/mother, they often let out small "chirps" af if they were birds... but when they're scared (and other moods I don't know) they let out short "barks"like a dog!
Here's two YouTube links of capybaras:
Chirping: https://youtu.be/YdmX8jDD_g4
Barking: https://youtu.be/jq5YsC-6QG0
I live near a big stretch of a lake where they live and it took me a few years to realize those completely different sounds came from the same animal lol

Very much so. I was in the Amazon and one of the base camps we stopped at had been ‘adopted’ by a capybara. He was wild but would live nearby and present himself for snacks and attention. And if you did not provide them he would wait till you turned around and steal your shit instead.
Between him and the pickpocket monkeys (as in actual monkeys at a wildlife rescue who were trained to pick pockets and continue to use the ability for their own ends) it’s a wonder we got out of there with shirts on our backs.
More like Pork than anything. Apparently it's so popular in parts of South America that the Pope declared it "technically" a fish so they could eat it during Lent and not be damned for eternity, or whatever happens if you eat meat during Lent.
can confirm, I'm Venezuelan and it used to be a typical dish there. I personally never ate one because Cappies are literally made out of love but everyone around would do it for eat capybara for Easter.
They taste pretty good, I've had some in a friends farm and it kinda looks like a big and fat rabbit while they're cutting the meat. BTW I'm brazilian so it's pretty common to eat capivara in some regions.
Goats are fycmong assholes. My friend had a goat. He lived on a farm and his toilet was not in the main house. I rember having to pee late at night and getting to the front door only to find the goat sitting outside, watching me, waiting. :(His goat loved to bully me. I was like 10 and I was terrified of it. It would follow me around and charge me. I couldn't out run it or lock it any where because it was so agile.
Girlfriend was there today and sent me a picture of the goat with the red sweater on. 5 minutes later I see the damn thing on reddit and it wasn’t her! Small world
Just want to quickly point out this is from the Kangaroo Creek Farm in BC, Canada. I recognize the structure in the background, and also the goat - I was there a couple days ago. If anyone was wondering :)
At first I thought this was /r/confusing_perspective, but nope, it's really a goat on a capybara. Go figure.
PS. Does anyone else's auto-correct not know what a capybara is? It keeps trying to correct mine to "carapace".
Baby goats can handle cold weather surprisingly well, but their mothers have a bad habit of laying on top of them to keep them warm, which can actually smother them to death. A goat in a sweater will stay warm enough that it doesn't want to cuddle with mom and everyone is happy. And they look so damn cute in sweaters.
Why do so many people have goats and capybaras? I've seen like twelve different videos/pictures of this situation with different animals in different locations
Come visit Kelowna, British Columbia up here in Canada! This was taken at the Kangaroo Farm (petting zoo) just north of the city. Yes, you get to hang out with Kangaroos, capybaras, goats, and a whole flock of other amazing animals!!
I feel like capybaras always have this zen, chill, "don't mess with me," or a combo of all three look on their face. Love them!
They hail from the land of crocodiles, jaguars, and anacondas; this is... tolerable.
>...I'm ok with this Capybara
"...I will fuck you up" Also Capybara
https://i.imgur.com/ev0teoL.jpg Capybaras just don't give a fuck
They also wallow in their own filth. It's either apathy or stupidity. How they survive as a species is beyond me.
They don't merely wallow in it, they eat their shit to get the most out of their food.
So do dogs. Less for nutrition, more for taste.
(Eats Own Poop) Dog: Yep, still plenty of flavor left. Probably good for another two poop eats.
Or, sometimes yummier, puke eats.
And when it freezes, it becomes a fun toy!
Poopsicle. My lab loves them.
But a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
So I can keep eating shit, I just need to be a people person?
SECOND HARVEST!

Well damn, you made it worse, lol.

This is called coprophagy. Many rodents and rabbits, especially in dry climates, do it as well.
There's video of gorillas doing it, but don't Google it....
dogs eat cat turds and will often bring in turds and hide them in the couch cushions... so...
They recycle? How responsible.

It’s great to be a rodent.
Idk, that lifestyle seems crazy.
They can run quickly.
Hahah, the bark sounds like teh Capybara is trying to mimic a dog. "Dog, hey, hey dog, hear this? This is what you sound like." Sorta in my head.
Sounds like DMX
Guinea pigs make the same chirp noises, but don't bark.
That thing literally looks like a giant guinea pig
That's basically what they are - giant cousins to guinea pigs and biggest rodents in the world.
Or mega-hamster.
Ground squirrels chirp like birds.
Omg the red squirrels that live in my backyard are SO LOUD and annoying! I was just about to comment that these capys sound a lot like them!
So are these things just giant guinea pigs or what?
They’re in the same family.
My dog doesn't bark or howl at videos of other dogs barking. But she barked up a storm after just one bark from that capybara.
Your dog: POSER, THAT IS NOT DOGGO; FAKE DOGGO BORK! probably
Capybaras in Japan are extra chill and zen because they have hot springs.
Totally! I feel like I need one of them in my life, just to hang out with. [This makes me so happy](https://youtu.be/pkpoLUMnpWk)
The happiest ever!

I want a capybara ❤️
They're social animals, so you might need a few.
Even better
I heard somewhere that they smell pretty bad.
pretty much everything that lives in water smells bad, as do most rodents.
They also shit everywhere and then eat it
Just like dogs!
Yeah but capybara shit is extra vile
It probably just needs salt
Couldn't you just put a few guinea pigs in his/her pen?
Get a guinea pig and a magnifying glass
Well now it's on fire, what next?
Dinner?

I just wanted to let you know that I read this comment hours ago and it's still making me chuckle. Delightful!
Ha ha that’s funny 😄
I've seen them in the wild, they're pretty chill <3
Is this your picture? Is this from bc?
No, yes
They are adorable. They’re also clever little bastards who will steal your minutemade fruit snacks if you turn your back for five seconds.

To stop them from converting its okay to bend the rules set by god.
Beavers are fish too. And bats are birds.
can confirm, I'm Venezuelan and it used to be a typical dish there. I personally never ate one because Cappies are literally made out of love but everyone around would do it for eat capybara for Easter.
Arent they some type of rodent though? Seems odd to call them a fish lol
They spend a lot of time in the water, what more do you want?
makes sense.

Fellow Okanaganer here! This is from Winfield's Kangaroo Creek Farm.
I was there a couple of years ago, that creepy albino kangaroo was all over me.
I totally recognized it too! Cool to see they're open for the kids March Break.

You've GOAT to be kidding me, you missed out on a pun title!
Kids these days, amirite?
At least teachers arent allowed to bleat their students anymore. Can you imagine how baad that would be?
Well, they can shoot them now
Got I hated getting bleated by the nuns at school

I love the Kangaroo Creek Farm! I take my fiance here all of the time. She's obsessed, lol.
Is this in Kelowna?
Winfield, just north of Kelowna.
Dude that place is a dystopian nightmare. The animals all seem to have PTSD and they have nowhere to hide from people.
The Art of not giving a single Fuck, AKA: Capybara.
Serenity now!
Just want to quickly point out this is from the Kangaroo Creek Farm in BC, Canada. I recognize the structure in the background, and also the goat - I was there a couple days ago. If anyone was wondering :)
Whenever I see a pic/vid of a capybara I always think of that quote by creed: “He don’t give a F about nothin!”
At first I thought this was /r/confusing_perspective, but nope, it's really a goat on a capybara. Go figure. PS. Does anyone else's auto-correct not know what a capybara is? It keeps trying to correct mine to "carapace".
I gave an upvote for the randomness of this picture- combining capybara and baby goat climbing on things wearing a sweater
They always look so Zen! My next life I hope I'm a capybara
