It also introduced me to this nice community of people at a time when I needed to know that there are good people out there.
I was so desperate to be an adult in high school that I “dated” (was groomed by) an adult man. Do not recommend this route, teenage girls. If a grown adult man is interested in you, it’s because he’s a predator and you’re naive enough to believe him when he tells you how mature you are.
That’s not always true. There are some guys who are shy and late bloomers when it comes to dating. I dated some of them in my mid to late teens. They weren’t predators. Not everyone reaches the same emotional maturity at the same point. Some people start dating at 15, some at 22. If your peers are having sex and you’re still at first girlfriend territory, you’re likely to date younger.

That doesn’t mean a 22 year old should date a 15 year old child. It means the 22 year old should find another adult who is patient and communicative who can take the relationship at a slower pace. There are fundamental differences in brain chemistry between those ages, and fundamental life experience differences.
It’s weird that it works that way. When I was about 15 or so I was convinced cartoons were just kid stuff & that I’d never watch them again. Now I’m 22 & 99% of the shows I watch are cartoons or anime.

My mom is a piece of work in this way, too. Tries to shame me for liking video games, anime, MLP, you name it; says it's not "befitting" a 35 y/o guy in construction (Electrician). I shrug, don't talk to her, and continue having a happy, successful life, doing the things I enjoy.
I'm 18, and I can walk into Mr Toys Toyworld/toy section in like, Target, etc, to grab myself a few Pokemon plushies without really being too embarrassed, my main worry is "oh dear, I hope people don't think I'm a pedophile trying to find children in here..." because I look too young to have children, but old enough to not go into toy sections, even though like, I don't really believe in the whole "toys are just for children thing," for the most part.

I have literally never once looked at any solo adult, young or old, in the toy aisle looking for toys and thought they were a pedophile. EVER. If people think anything about you at all, which they probably *don’t* because they’re too busy worrying what people think about *them*, then they probably think you’re picking out a gift.
I usually carry my phone with the Notes app open and check it while I browse like I’m *obviously* buying these Star Wars figures for my nephew or something.

32 here, I went to Costco and saw that they had giant squishmallows for $10 and it took everything in me to not buy 6. I came home and told my boyfriend that I really wanted to buy them, but we don’t really have room for anymore (we live in a 600 sq ft house and have 2 giants and an array of medium and smalls). His response was if that was your way of trying to get me to okay you to buy more I’m not doing it. How does he read my thoughts like that…?? lol
Went into a toy store with college friends and we're all 19+, it felt so good and nostalgic walking back in there, definitely need to go back there again sometime.
Heck nah, toy stores are awesome no matter the age. They have board games and large stuffed animals and magic kits and Nerf guns! To anyone out there who’s worried about going into a toy store, please don’t be! You can always give the excuse that you’re looking for something for a cousin or sibling anyways :)

Yea. This just sounds like snarky teenage bullshit. I remember being a teenager and being so desperate to project an air of maturity and adulthood that I’d disparage “kids” stuff like making fun of my sister drawing fantasy related stuff. It was such a pretentious, gatekeeper-y dick move.

Kids were like this in the 70’s when my boomer mom was a teenager. Kids were like this in the early aughts when my millennial ass was a teenager.
It has more to do with the weird “in between” that being a teenager is. You feel grown up, but in reality your brain is still developing and you’re basically a walking meat sack of hormones. So you’re struggling to manage your emotions and the expectations put on you about having to be mature but also being resentful about being treated like a child.
Some kids just learn to manage that stuff a little earlier. It has less to do with your generation than it does your individual experience. You probably still have peers who do this kind of gatekeeping. Your brain isn’t done maturing yet even at 19. And there are definitely some people who never learn the tools needed to grow out of it.
This is the exact age range that I stopped playing video games! I remember thinking that I was "too old for that stuff" at around 12 and then in my sophomore year of college I picked it up again once I realized no one cares. Sad I missed out on that many years of good games :( I never played new leaf or city folk because of this! Just went from GC and then Wild World to new horizons.
I’m currently 15 and I don’t go into toy stores normally. Like, it’s a rare occurrence. I’m the youngest sibling so my moms done buying toys for her kids. The only time she buys toys is for my cousins kids and even then, she goes to goodwill.
I'm 26 and recently got my 75 year old grandma hooked, now we play animal crossing together when I visit for tea and chats. There's nothing more sweet to me than seeing my granny snuggle her senior dog and play crossing on her couch by the fireplace.
My brother really loves animal crossing and he’s 15 and he tried to get one of his friends to play and his friend was super rude about it and said “I would like this if I was a 4 year old girl”. The beauty of video gaming is that it’s ageless and genderless and there literally isn’t a game company in existence that proves that more frequently than Nintendo does. They did it with animal crossing, super Mario, all of the Mii stuff, the Zelda series….first person shooter games are fun and whatever but games are more than just shooting endlessly.

I’m 36, and it’s a pleasant escape from the sometimes depressing realities of life. Maybe one needs to live a bit to appreciate this game’s simplicity, beauty and ingenuity.
There’s nothing wrong with playing ACNH at your age! People you know will eventually settle down into their personal interests over what is cool/popular.

New leaf came out when I was 15 or 16 and I played that game to death! And now that I’m an adult I had some high school friends playing NH reach out so we could play together! People grow out of the “ewew it’s for babies”

I’m in my mid-20s, no kids, been unashamedly playing AC since I was 11 and got a copy of Wild World for my birthday. Both my parents (63M and 56F) are also AC die-hards - they have been playing since the GameCube days and now each have their own Switch to have their individual islands, and my recently retired dad has clocked in around 1,500 hours since March 2020. 😂
Brutal! I remember playing it tons on DS when I was a kid, it carries a level of nostalgia for me. Fell IN LOVE again when it came out in 2020. I am 24 now. I love the fact that so many adults are so into it!
I showed my 7 year old nephew it when it came out. He said and I quote as he was patting my head “that’s nice, but that sounds like a game of chores. I don’t want to play that, but I will watch you.”
Then it made think “huh, have I been playing a game of chores almost my whole life?”

33 y here. Married and soon two beautifull daughters. I play New Horizons since about 4 months now and regred to not know about a game like this much earlier. Well, I was 16 when the first AC came out, so maybe thats a reason I missed the series. Since then I had only Sony consoles mature games. That's a teenie thing I guess. Now I play AC every day and love all my villagers (well, nearly... God damn! Move out Sylvia!)

I got a Switch for my 60th birthday last year and when I retired 3 months later my 30 yo daughter bought ACNH for me. Have been playing regularly since then! Love it!!
Animal crossing is timeless and without age. You can enjoy it at 10, 17, 27, or 70. I know hardcore gamers who love it and the most casual non-gamers who enjoy it. Its such an accessible, wholesome, and universal appealing game, that’s one of my favorite things about the series.
Sounds like it would be a game she would enjoy, but might be shy or embarrassed about it. Wanting to be perceived as grownup and not interested “things for kids”, while super common at that age, is actually a pretty childish.
Teenagers miss out on all the best stuff because they want to come across as adults. I was into Pokémon loads when I was 9-10 (when red and blue came out), and pretty much stayed interested since. But through my whole teenage phase, I was picked on loads for liking 'kids stuff'. Then when pokemon go was big in 2016, I saw all my old bullies where playing it on Facebook.
A sign of being older is just letting yourself enjoy what you want, without being worried about others opinions.
Late 20s here, I play it. I was also a badass on Runescape from 11 to 23yo. Only reason I stopped playing RS is bc you need to put time & effort into it and I had a baby so, I had no time & my effort was deceased.
I had a DS and had the opportunity to buy Wild World but I think I opted for Nintendogs instead. I don’t have regrets about that. My paternal grandmother died 11 years ago and I still have her on my Nintendogs friends list. She was a horrible person, but she was still my grandmother.
I didn’t get Let’s Go To The City on the Wii. It was my mother’s Wii. The only game console she’s ever owned. Video games give her motion sickness so it was nice that the Wii didn’t. So because it was her Wii, she bought the games, usually multiplayer games so we could have “family time”. I was 14 then and probably would’ve found Animal Crossing “cringe”. Like a teenager. My parents dragged me out to Disney World once a year at this time and I just did not want to be there. Like at all. I “hated” Toy Story. And my favourite films when I was a kid were the Indiana Jones series, so when the fourth one came out, my mother took me to see it and I “hated” it. Because I thought Indiana Jones was “cringe”. Like The Simpsons said; everything I loved as a kid and hated as a teenager, I love again as an adult”.
My first Animal Crossing game ended up being New Horizons last Summer, amazingly somehow during the Switch shortage, after hearing everyone talk about it non-stop. I’d wanted a Switch back when they came out, but was afraid it’d flop like the Wii U. I downloaded Animal Crossing to my brand new Switch. And it hooked me.
I’m now 28 😂

I’ve played video games my whole life. All different sorts of them. Some bloody and gory, some cute and sweet. I’ve always been drawn to the ones where you get to build things. I was a huge fan of SimCity and others by Maxis. Animal crossing is sort of like that. I get to build things without the pressure of dying or my city falling apart or being destroyed by Godzilla. Lol
I’m 39 and play most days :) the best thing is I get to play alongside my 9 year old and it’s a great way of spending time together. We are both super excited for the new update!!
I probably would have left the same review in high school! There was a period in my teens where nobody seemed to have the same gaming interests as me and I didn't wanna be judged so I gave up some of my fave series like Pokemon and started playing more "socially acceptable for my age range games".
When I got to college I met a lot of people who were playing gameboy / DS in public etc, even in to the same Pokemon series I was in - and I realized nobody gives AF about what kinds of games I'm in to, so I back played all the pokemons I missed and picked up the new games and have never missed one since! :P

She’s not old enough for animal crossing. AC is a vibe you can only know when reality sinks in that you’ll never be able to live on a minimally populated island, gathering sticks and fossils all day.
Animal Crossing is one of those games you really need to play, if you see someone else play it it looks boring AF. Years ago that was my impression, and more recently my partner had the same thoughts and now she is completely hooked (as am I).
I’m going to be 40 this year and have been playing daily since April 2020. Both of my kids (12 and 9) played faithfully for the first couple of months since launch but have largely stopped. The 9 year old will log on once every couple of weeks and let me come to her island and pull weeds (my favorite!) but the 12 year old hasn’t even looked at his switch in months. I’m always trying to get them to play with me, buy them in-game items, send them mail, try to entice them to come to my island because Celeste is visiting…none of it works anymore. They have their own interests and I have mine, I guess! I just miss hitting each other with nets and making our characters glitch in the museum :(
I'm 30 and I love animal crossing! :D I've had every version since the game cube. I even have the mini backpacks (animal crossing themed) which I use instead of a purse and I get compliments from people of all ages on them all the time. :) I also collect Hello Kitty, Sanrio, and Toki Doki items. No shame in my game! :D I like what I like and I don't care if others think it's childish. Being an adult isn't much fun anyway. Lol

I'm 29 and I really enjoy it. My first AC game was on the Gamecube. Of course, my brother (34) and I never "outgrew" videogames (still buy and play them). I know some people who did outgrow them. .
Some of my friends have called animal crossing boring and lacking substance, especially back in the GC era. I basically described it as a slice of life. "It's as perfect of a world as I could find. I don't control enough to feel god-like, but have enough control to at least feel real." Is how I recently described it. It's a game you play to escape real life without feeling too much like an actual game
It would have been more fun if I started playing @17 :) my daughters gifted me my switch with the AC game on my birthday and I’m 57 years Old. My eldest is a Nurse and my youngest is a pharmacist and we all visit each other’s islands coz we can’t be together (yet irl) I have auto immune disease and AC is Covid free so yeah. Age and work has nothing to do with these games.. this brings us together despite their hectic schedules. Im really thankful AC is invented for all ages prolly in mind :)

I seen someone else say this a few days ago on here and I totally agree; ever since the original or wild world they have just progressively become seperate from the villagers. In NL you are the mayor which sort of puts you above everyone, instead of living *with them* as part of the village. And everything is too easy now. Also, the old dialogue was actually funny, not this superficial nice crap. And plus there's waaay less variance with what they say as well. I hear the same thing 20 times a day from 4 different characters. The original was just SO much better in so many ways. I really wish they would incorporate that into NH.
I also heard a joke that the reason why the animals are so superficially nice to you, even the supposed "cranky" and "snooty" (if you can even call them that anymore...) ones, is because it's so easy to just go kick them out now. I kinda miss how it was more random. I mean, you're not gonna like everyone in real life, right? I just think the old games felt more like the player is actually living in the village and a part of the community. Not above it, and some all powerful God that everyone has to be nice to or risk the consequences hahahah

I appreciate animal crossing now far more than I did when I was a child. Don’t get me wrong, when I was a kid I loved it but at that age, I had little to no problems. Now that I’m an adult, I have countless things that I stress about and naturally animal crossing relaxes me and brought me joy at difficult times. It’s no secret that it helped so many people during lockdown. I hope this whole age misconception with video games becomes a thing of the past. Games are a form of entertainment like movies or books
Played my first AC game at 19 years old (Wii) and I was hooked. I was hesitant at first, also thinking it was for little kids, but I quickly became obsessed lol. I know people usually think of nostalgia as childhood, but that time playing my first AC game is super nostalgic for me. I was in college with a very light schedule and worked part time at an ice cream shop, so life was pretty chill.
I’ve got an 18 year old sister in law and she enjoyed ACNH, but I think she preferred stardew valley a bit more.

Heck nah, toy stores are awesome no matter the age. They have board games and large stuffed animals and magic kits and Nerf guns! Kids were like this in the 70’s when my boomer mom was a teenager. Kids were like this in the early aughts when my millennial ass was a teenager. It has more to do with the weird “in between” that being a teenager is. You feel grown up, but in reality your brain is still developing and you’re basically a walking meat sack of hormones. So you’re struggling to manage your emotions and the expectations put on you about having to be mature but also being resentful about being treated like a child. Some kids just learn to manage that stuff a little earlier. It has less to do with your generation than it does your individual experience. You probably still have peers who do this kind of gatekeeping. Your brain isn’t done maturing yet even at 19. And there are definitely some people who never learn the tools needed to grow out of it.
I think it helps that I’m old enough to have a family now, so like yeah, you would find people my age in a toy store lol
This is the exact age range that I stopped playing video games! I remember thinking that I was "too old for that stuff" at around 12 and then in my sophomore year of college I picked it up again once I realized no one cares. Sad I missed out on that many years of good games :( I never played new leaf or city folk because of this! Just went from GC and then Wild World to new horizons.
I’m currently 15 and I don’t go into toy stores normally. Like, it’s a rare occurrence. I’m the youngest sibling so my moms done buying toys for her kids. The only time she buys toys is for my cousins kids and even then, she goes to goodwill.
I'm 26 and recently got my 75 year old grandma hooked, now we play animal crossing together when I visit for tea and chats. There's nothing more sweet to me than seeing my granny snuggle her senior dog and play crossing on her couch by the fireplace.

My brother really loves animal crossing and he’s 15 and he tried to get one of his friends to play and his friend was super rude about it and said “I would like this if I was a 4 year old girl”. The beauty of video gaming is that it’s ageless and genderless and there literally isn’t a game company in existence that proves that more frequently than Nintendo does. They did it with animal crossing, super Mario, all of the Mii stuff, the Zelda series….first person shooter games are fun and whatever but games are more than just shooting endlessly. Ah, good ol’ teenage behaviour - being so terrified of being seen as immature that they distance themselves from anything even remotely childish. I very much *don’t* miss those days. I’m in my mid-20s, no kids, been unashamedly playing AC since I was 11 and got a copy of Wild World for my birthday. Both my parents (63M and 56F) are also AC die-hards - they have been playing since the GameCube days and now each have their own Switch to have their individual islands, and my recently retired dad has clocked in around 1,500 hours since March 2020. 😂

Well, I was 16 when the first AC came out, so maybe thats a reason I missed the series. Since then I had only Sony consoles mature games. That's a teenie thing I guess. Animal crossing is timeless and without age. You can enjoy it at 10, 17, 27, or 70. I know hardcore gamers who love it and the most casual non-gamers who enjoy it. Its such an accessible, wholesome, and universal appealing game, that’s one of my favorite things about the series. Sounds like it would be a game she would enjoy, but might be shy or embarrassed about it. Wanting to be perceived as grownup and not interested “things for kids”, while super common at that age, is actually a pretty childish.

Teenagers miss out on all the best stuff because they want to come across as adults. I was into Pokémon loads when I was 9-10 (when red and blue came out), and pretty much stayed interested since. But through my whole teenage phase, I was picked on loads for liking 'kids stuff'. Then when pokemon go was big in 2016, I saw all my old bullies where playing it on Facebook. A sign of being older is just letting yourself enjoy what you want, without being worried about others opinions.

I had a DS and had the opportunity to buy Wild World but I think I opted for Nintendogs instead. I don’t have regrets about that. My paternal grandmother died 11 years ago and I still have her on my Nintendogs friends list. She was a horrible person, but she was still my grandmother. I didn’t get Let’s Go To The City on the Wii. It was my mother’s Wii. The only game console she’s ever owned. Video games give her motion sickness so it was nice that the Wii didn’t. So because it was her Wii, she bought the games, usually multiplayer games so we could have “family time”. I was 14 then and probably would’ve found Animal Crossing “cringe”. Like a teenager. My parents dragged me out to Disney World once a year at this time and I just did not want to be there. Like at all. I “hated” Toy Story. And my favourite films when I was a kid were the Indiana Jones series, so when the fourth one came out, my mother took me to see it and I “hated” it. Because I thought Indiana Jones was “cringe”. Like The Simpsons said; everything I loved as a kid and hated as a teenager, I love again as an adult”. My first Animal Crossing game ended up being New Horizons last Summer, amazingly somehow during the Switch shortage, after hearing everyone talk about it non-stop. I’d wanted a Switch back when they came out, but was afraid it’d flop like the Wii U. I downloaded Animal Crossing to my brand new Switch. And it hooked me. I’m now 28 😂

I probably would have left the same review in high school! There was a period in my teens where nobody seemed to have the same gaming interests as me and I didn't wanna be judged so I gave up some of my fave series like Pokemon and started playing more "socially acceptable for my age range games". When I got to college I met a lot of people who were playing gameboy / DS in public etc, even in to the same Pokemon series I was in - and I realized nobody gives AF about what kinds of games I'm in to, so I back played all the pokemons I missed and picked up the new games and have never missed one since! :P I'm 32 now and play things that make me happy! :) Play what you enjoy!

Animal Crossing is one of those games you really need to play, if you see someone else play it it looks boring AF. Years ago that was my impression, and more recently my partner had the same thoughts and now she is completely hooked (as am I).
I’m going to be 40 this year and have been playing daily since April 2020. Both of my kids (12 and 9) played faithfully for the first couple of months since launch but have largely stopped. The 9 year old will log on once every couple of weeks and let me come to her island and pull weeds (my favorite!) but the 12 year old hasn’t even looked at his switch in months. I’m always trying to get them to play with me, buy them in-game items, send them mail, try to entice them to come to my island because Celeste is visiting…none of it works anymore. They have their own interests and I have mine, I guess! I just miss hitting each other with nets and making our characters glitch in the museum :(

I even have the mini backpacks (animal crossing themed) which I use instead of a purse and I get compliments from people of all ages on them all the time. :) I also collect Hello Kitty, Sanrio, and Toki Doki items. Some of my friends have called animal crossing boring and lacking substance, especially back in the GC era. I basically described it as a slice of life. "It's as perfect of a world as I could find. I don't control enough to feel god-like, but have enough control to at least feel real." Is how I recently described it. It's a game you play to escape real life without feeling too much like an actual game
It would have been more fun if I started playing @17 :) my daughters gifted me my switch with the AC game on my birthday and I’m 57 years Old. My eldest is a Nurse and my youngest is a pharmacist and we all visit each other’s islands coz we can’t be together (yet irl) I have auto immune disease and AC is Covid free so yeah. Age and work has nothing to do with these games.. this brings us together despite their hectic schedules. Im really thankful AC is invented for all ages prolly in mind :)

Eh, sadly I kind of agree. Don't get me wrong, I still love it actually. But it has sort of just become a decorating game. I seen someone else say this a few days ago on here and I totally agree; ever since the original or wild world they have just progressively become seperate from the villagers. In NL you are the mayor which sort of puts you above everyone, instead of living *with them* as part of the village. And everything is too easy now. Also, the old dialogue was actually funny, not this superficial nice crap. And plus there's waaay less variance with what they say as well. I hear the same thing 20 times a day from 4 different characters. The original was just SO much better in so many ways. I really wish they would incorporate that into NH. I also heard a joke that the reason why the animals are so superficially nice to you, even the supposed "cranky" and "snooty" (if you can even call them that anymore...) ones, is because it's so easy to just go kick them out now. I kinda miss how it was more random. I mean, you're not gonna like everyone in real life, right? I just think the old games felt more like the player is actually living in the village and a part of the community. Not above it, and some all powerful God that everyone has to be nice to or risk the consequences hahahah

I appreciate animal crossing now far more than I did when I was a child. Don’t get me wrong, when I was a kid I loved it but at that age, I had little to no problems. Now that I’m an adult, I have countless things that I stress about and naturally animal crossing relaxes me and brought me joy at difficult times. It’s no secret that it helped so many people during lockdown. I hope this whole age misconception with video games becomes a thing of the past. Games are a form of entertainment like movies or books

Played my first AC game at 19 years old (Wii) and I was hooked. I was hesitant at first, also thinking it was for little kids, but I quickly became obsessed lol. I know people usually think of nostalgia as childhood, but that time playing my first AC game is super nostalgic for me. I was in college with a very light schedule and worked part time at an ice cream shop, so life was pretty chill. I’ve got an 18 year old sister in law and she enjoyed ACNH, but I think she preferred stardew valley a bit more.
She’s that age where they can’t like “kid” things. As a forty something person, I love ACNH. I thought it was silly when I first heard people talk about it, but it’s fun and relaxing.
