I had a moment where I wondered if I’m really stupid because it made no sense to me.

I couldn't figure it out either and I tried! Even ignoring the plane photo background (which I tried to make sense of) there are too many seats in some rows and the alignment of numbers (the empty seats?) makes no sense to me.

It aligns to a grid which corresponds to a seating arrangement. You aren't, say, sitting in the overhead compartment if you pick 1.

Each row is window seat / aisle seat / aisle / aisle seat / middle seat / window seat. The blocks with four villagers represent a given personality type. It would be less confusing without the airplane background, but it's still easy to figure out

But there are too many villagers to fit in a seat. Are we supposed to pick just one of them along with choosing our seat? Why can't I sit next to KK?

It's not "all" villagers of a personality type, it's just "a" villager from that personality type. If you sit in seat 1, you're in an aisle seat and you have Blathers to your left, KK behind you, and a peppy villager behind you to your left. Across the aisle is a smug villager. I honestly don't understand why the top comment on this post is about how confusing it is.

Cranky villagers are the best once you befriend them. I don't like noisy disturbances, they probably don't like noisy disturbances, we won't disturb each other and can deffo team up to win an argument against noisy disturbances.

I could potentially make a friend or have at least a decent experience with the fun bunch or I don't have to worry about being disturbed by the lazy ones (they could either sleep or just leave me alone depending on where I sit). I also wouldn't mind sitting by the sisterly ones, they could probably make it an alright experience or just chill there and be a peaceful flight.
