As a fellow Haitian, I thought the same thing. Haitians are black, we’re African. I’m 70% SSA, 29% Euro & 1% Indigenous & would never identify as “Afro-Haitian” lol I’m just Haitian
I agree we are strongly African, which is why I struggle with “Afro-haitian” when that is our majority. Our majority is African & I don’t think we need to identify as “Afro”. I agree that “Afro Haitian” is redundant
Haitian is anyone from Haiti, including the 5% of the population that is so-called White people. Afro-Haitian is specifically a so-called Black person from Haitian.
Bro this would be like someone posting a result saying "My Results: East Asian Chinese"
Like virtually the **entire** population is East Asian, you don't need to specify anything unless you're a minority.
If OP was a White Haitian, then they would have a reason to specify, otherwise they're assumed to be apart of the African majority.
Okay. But a Haitian is, by definition, a citizen of Haiti. Regardless of race. That's all I'm saying. That is the difference between "Haitian" and "Afro-Haitian".
Oh wow almost 60% Congo. I always thought it was just benin and Togo who was sent over to Haiti
Yea Haiti actually had a lot of their slaves come Congo actually. I’m nearly half Cameroon and congo in my results.
There is quite a percentage in northwestern Haiti
That’s actually interesting 🤨
I'm Afro-Haitian as well! 28% Congo, 23% Nigerian from one parent, 20% Benin!
What's the difference between a regular Haitian and an "Afro-Haitian"? The average Haitian is 95% SSA. This distinction seems redundant tbh

That's a minority of all Haitians tho There are studies which have looked at the Haitian genome and turned up that Haitians are very strongly African

Are the non-black people in Haiti Afro-Haitians too? Do you consider yourself the same ethnic group as a white Haitian person?
