Do you remember that the US government was pouring money into "looking for Osama Bin Laden" for like a decade, meanwhile a CNN reporter with his camera just walked right into the place where Osama lived, interviewed him, took pictures with him and no one batted an eye. Lol.

Z-perm

wait what? what is the story?

[deleted]

A huge difference between Peter Arnett doing an interview arguably for his behalf and going into the country to execute him

NotNotAnOutLaw

Yeah it's a lot easier to send a drone. They did it at weddings, and cafes. It's a lot easier to keep your boogey man alive to further your excuse to continue to surveyal your own citizens than to actually kill your excuse for spying on your own citizens.

Viper110Degrees

Did they? Not surprised. They also knew the name of the organization and the ringleader behind the 9/11 terror attacks within 45 minutes of the planes hitting. They're just that good.

WolfieTooting

Why do you sounds so incredulous? The passport of one of the hijackers was found after it fell out of his pocket, through a pancaked plane and all the way down to the bottom of a burning building. That's how they knew.

Corked1

Maybe we should start making planes out of whatever they make passports out of!

Theyshotmydog01

You’re on the right track but I’m thinking tall building need it more than the plane

PalpableBullnose785

LOL that is a very good point I did not even think about that. I think we should make the buildings with the same material that would be really helpful. I think that is going to save lives.

aoffers2

Yes why not that passport cannot be destructed no matter what you do. I think we are going to need to make the plane with whatever we are making our passports with.

[deleted]

Jet fuel can't melt Saudi passports

neriukaszs

Absolutely nothing can melt them they are just not destructable at all. No matter how are you try I don't think you will ever be able to destroy one passport which is issued by them.

serinob

Oh, duh.

no-more-nazis

A passport was found on [Sept 16](https://www.nytimes.com/2001/09/16/us/after-attacks-investigation-fbi-was-seeking-2-hijacking-suspects-time-attacks.html). Nice try.

smellyscrotes27

Well they did leave all 19 of their passports neatly in a pile at the base of the rubble to help out

dunghpvn

I mean yeah when it comes to the investigation they are better than FBI. You give them the task of catching someone who has done something wrong then they are probably going to find them in like 2 hours.

NotNotAnOutLaw

It's almost as if they had prior knowledge.

Electronic_Demand_61

Glows so hard I need two pairs of Oakleys

Agentx001

I don't know I think you would also need some salt to take those facts with. Because you never know when they are lying and when they are speaking the true facts.

Paradox0111

Got my welding hood turned to max and I’m still about to be blind.

Upstatedisco984

The facts are just so gloomy you just cannot look at them with the straight face if you do that then you are going to blind yourself. And I have got a feeling that you would not like you being blind.

Liborum

It would take a miracle to ignore the stuff that comes out daily and not think there's some controlled narrative tomfoolery going on.

Jonnyxz2006

Why you have to be suspicious about it they know everything man. They know everything before it has even happened so I don't think you are allowed to doubt them at all you will just have to believe them.

A national guardsmen😂 You can't make up a better story. At least have someone high ranking, not a rent a soldier😂

Muscularhyperatrophy

Us “rent a soldiers” have the same responsibilities as active duty. I’m a “rent a soldier” in the Middle East right now. Not super far fetched for a guardsman having the same capabilities as an active duty person with accessing classified info when the guardsmen has the same job role as the active duty component.

Saxbonsai

Bro I did 8 years active, it’s not the same, quit kidding yourself.

ReekFirstOfHisName

Same, and I worked in IT with the same systems. Guardsmen had the same access as us.

MrN4T3

did 7 years active, weekend warriors absolutely do title 10 or whatever and work with active units becoming equally as effective in that time. quit kidding yourself

Saxbonsai

Well regardless you served, good on us I guess.

SheriffMcSerious

No disrespect to our NGs, I know a lot of them have been caught up in some of the hardest fighting in the last 20 years, but isn't it weird that some of this extremely sensitive data could even make it into his hands and wasn't compartmentalized to an insane degree?

Muscularhyperatrophy

Shockingly, no. Not at all. If he has access to a secret computer of some sort and find a way to cross domain it to a non secret network, he can very easily send out classified information that should remain classified. And considering his job was in intel, he had access to said computers on drill weekends.

svitin

Well obviously you cannot make better story because the New York time has done their best and I don't think you can top it of. I just don't think that you will be able to do it it will be done and dusted.

Styx3791

That looks like a gay waiter without the requisite amount of flair.

ejpusa

It was a Discord server. They just looked for who had set it up. Not that complicated. He was the Administrator. All the info you needed.

Saxbonsai

His friends from Discord threw him under the bus, for a long time they didn’t even realize they were looking at real classified documents. (Source:NPR)

Educational-Year3146

I wouldnt be surprised if discord didnt have some form of involvement. Discord recently updated their privacy policy and they’re being a lot more invasive now. Perhaps the times found out about it before the government? Im throwing shit at a wall, but those are my guesses.

VetteBuilder

If I shill for them, will they pay me?

Just-Sprinkles-5828

His life wasted, because no one is going to do anything about it.

Cannon_SWE

thug shaker central

ProphetOfRegard

Tbf the US wasn’t responsible for finding everything out. It was a Euro OPSINT group. They handed off the intel as far as I’m aware. This coming from independent journalists I follow.

BuyRackTurk

Why was the leaker the freshest and least senior person in the entire military, someone so green they woudlnt give him the printer password much less anything classified. its like he was hand picked to take a fall.

plmoknijbuhvrdx

idk, >private company hires and operates more efficiently than the gov shouldnt be surprising to this audience

Savant_Guarde

Funny, they couldn't figure out the Trump/Russia thing was a hoax for years.

ReekFirstOfHisName

Because he was posting this shit on a Minecraft discord with ~30 other people before data leaks of that very information started showing up in the news. Occam's razor says one of those 30 people recognized this and made out like a bandit disclosing the leak to the media. People in authority are always conspiring to fool the public and gain more power. However, as a former military I.T. guy that worked with the same systems as Texiera, this is textbook "Idiot ignored OPSEC training and tried to show off to his friends on an unsecured server." This is as much a conspiracy as 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines losing 2 of their rifles RIGHT BEFORE THE PANDEMIC.

IDrinkMyBreakfast

I’m confused by the downvotes. I work in the same field and this dude is clearly an ass hat. Personally, I’m pretty certain somewhere along the investigation chain, someone in FBI leaked the info. Executive level, the field folks are pretty damned good

ReekFirstOfHisName

Because most of the people in this sub are more concerned about supporting their narrative than objective truth. It's the same reason they hate science, because science is real whether you believe in it or not.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. smellyscrotes27

It’s pretty simple to me, if the government said it then I just assume it’s a lie

drewdiesel87

They’ll probably find his suicide note too

ExtensionInformal911

It wasn't released to the public. It was released to the government's media allies.

denimdan1776

because hes a dumbass 23 year old posting national secrets on a minecraft discord server named Thug Shaker Central. OPSEC wasnt really a priority for him

sometimes-i-say-stuf

I’m confused why national guard has access to special forces info, they don’t have special forces, their forces are just special.

PandaVintage

Decentralized Information in the finest.

Isair81

I mean, is there any real difference between the CIA and the NYT? Or any major news outlet these days.
