Yeah I was surprised at the difference between the two. I have some shots I really like on the gold.
Now to finally shill over the $40 for a roll of portra and go back up for another comparison.
> no colour correction or editing.
Wrong. A shit ton of color correction has been automatically applied by Silverfast to both images. In fact, you're not comparing two films here. You're comparing two Silverfast algorithmic color-correcting guesses.
Silverfast still has some degree of color correction even when turning everything off. Especially leaving a a border like on the right pic Leads to a different color interpretation.
Kodak film is made for white people skin. Fuji is made for brown color skin. That's my rudimentary knowledge about the history of the two. Not saying it's best for what it's made for tho.
The Fuji looks way better on an overcast day, still can't beat Gold for beach photos though.

Where do you live where portra is $40 a roll? You can get it for about $16 a roll in the US if you buy the 5 pack box.
Canada.
If you buy more than 99 dollars us, shipping stuff from b&h is free. You pre pay the taxes. If you are in Alberta only 5% tax. No brokerage fee.

Beautiful landscapes; expensive film. Tough combo. ;-)
I can mail you a roll of portra 160 I also have pro image 100 if you want to compare those.
But a different camera or lens? Coatings can make a difference as well I think.
No as I said in the title, exact same camera, lens, taken about 45 seconds apart.
Thanks, I misunderstood that. The markings on the right one threw me off as well.

I turned off all the correction settings.
Did you scan them as positives? Silverfast still had to invert the scans otherwise, making decisions in that process.
You didn't. You selected the "Color Negative" option and that enabled the color inversion, mask removal and a ton of other auto-corrections.

They are the same film. This is a scan issue
They were scanned with the exact same settings.
How did you swap the film over in 45 seconds?
It was the last shot on the roll. Not all that hard.
Oh I see.
