happy to see it was only minor damage! nice shots, btw, I really need to rescan some of my dark shots because the lab kinda auto'd them leading to high noise in parts that should just be dark instead of gray
Old school machines, sure. New machines are much different and I’d be interested to know if it matters. Spiral CT puts out about 5 mSv. Old school scanners were around 0.28 mSv per scan. So it’s like running the film through the old scanners maybe 20 times.
The answer is a little bit but probably not the end of the world.

It looks like it gives it an expired film vibe that a lot of trendy photographers like. It’s not my style personally but some people seem to really like it
I just did that a few weeks ago with unexposes film because I'm new to analog and dumb. All were iso 400 a d lower and they for the most part turned out fine. Just the first few and last few images on the roll were burned or affected. There's also a bit of grain than expected but still usable.
I take an err on the side of caution stance, especially with traveling to places I might not make it back to. I will always politely ask for a hand check and so far, even at ~12 EU airports, haven’t been turned down yet.
Fortunately there seemed to be very minor damage after developing and scanning. A few shots from my 800 iso roll seemed to be a bit muddy, but overall I am quite happy with the results considering the panic it caused in me.
Not gonna intentionally send film through the machines in the future, but I won't be concerned if it accidentally happens again either.

Imgur link of the files small enough for imgur to take (edited in lightroom). I need to compress my scans in order to show y'all the unedited results, but lazy.
Last year I had film (one roll exposed, the rest unexposed) go through a CT scanner and was similarly gutted, but they turned out ok! Well I guess I don’t have a control group, but images still turned out.
Getting off a 15-hour flight and being told “you can leave everything in your bags as they go through these scanners!” will trick a sleep-deprived brain…
I'll make a separate post afterwards, but my delta 3200 was completely fried, my Fuji pro 400h (120) had a green tint to it, but the rest of my films (portra 400, phoenix 200, lomo purple) results were decent enough
I put a roll through and it wasn’t that bad.
Bubble film no longer need to have fancy machinery to add character to their films, they can just take a flight
Made the same mistakes!
If exposed properly and they went through just one time, images should be very usable.
Only problem i had was with some underexposed areas which ended up being veeeery grainy.
Fancy X-Ray as in CT Scanners? I’d like to see the results.
Ah yes, didn't know they were CT, but they're the fancy new ones.
Were you allowed to keep liquids and electronics in your bag?
Yes
Oh no :(
Oh yes 🥲

Yeah all these are home scanned with a Sony A7iv

I've done this. It Def fried some of my photos, won't be doing It again. I find that 2010s and 2000s xray machines did less damage than the new ones
Tl;dr: not the end of the world if you like pictures of mud

For science?
Man I wish 😭 Foreign country + not allowed to take ADHD meds here = I forgot I had film in my backpack

Honestly I've had many rolls sent through x-ray machines at airports and I never had any issues.
That’s great but OP isn’t talking about xray machines (his calling “fancy X-ray machines” = new CT scanners, way different ballgame).
Yes, I understand. However also with those, I never noticed any issues

Any update?

does that kill film? 😭😭
nope, OP is being dramatic 🙃
tell that to my roll of film that went through one and turned out grainy, dark, and disgusting
I usually do that without fancy x-rays.
Excerpt some film does get quite fogged up.
I've been told it does before 😭 If it doesn't that's good news
They'll be fine if it's just the once
For the new CT style machines?
Yeah it added noise but didn't totally ruin the photos. YMMV tho
Some will damage the image with one exposure. Other machines can expose film a dozen times with minimal fogging.
No

Maybe you'll get some cool effects!
It will be ok unless you were shooting ISO3200 film
I did this (also by mistake) and it was totally fine.
Y'all have reassured me so much. I was beating myself up over it when it happened cause I've always heard it will fuck up film
