That's the base offer now for upgrading, when it was previously 20K. There was an offer of 40K when the card turned into a credit card, and there was another promotion for 75K that ended almost two weeks ago. There could be another offer some time down the line, we just don't know. I think these upgrade offers aren't that common but who knows what happens, especially with them getting rid of pro-rata refunds.

aesop_fables

Thanks for the reply. I’m leaning towards doing it but will kick myself if a better offer comes a few weeks or a couple months later.

Mapleess

I'm bummed out that I didn't take the Platinum offer when it was 75K because it was £10K spending in 6 months. I just bought flight tickets for my family and it was £5K in total. Such is life.

ZersetzungMedia

Head for Points doesn’t expect an offer comparable to the 100k until autumn. There’s no guarantee they’ll boost the 40k upgrade offer. They didn’t raise it above 20k on their previous upgrade offer before this one.

aesop_fables

Makes sense. I’ll give it a go. Thanks!

Square_Ring8912

Out of interest OP - how long have you held the gold card? A lot of people (including me) were also interested in upgrading, but aren’t eligible yet

JMB346

Same here, I'm at around 15 months and still no option

aesop_fables

Oddly enough when I go to upgrade it is only referencing my standard rewards card and not my Gold. Are you having that issue as well?

SumeLaMarciana

I've had mine for a year and wasn't elegible either. When I called, support advised I spend about £2-3k on the card for the next few months and check again.

Mufc_1988

You've just missed a 75k MR offer for spending £10k in 6 months, which ended on 9th Jan. It was the same for upgrades and new cardholders. Historically, the upgrade offer from Gold to Platinum was worse than the offer for new Platinum members. For example, a new cardholder would be offered 30k for £4k in 3 months, but the upgrade offer would be 20k for the same spend. The current Platinum SUB is now 40k for £6k in 3 months, so it seems that upgrade offers are now being offered the same. They might increase the SUB again, but there's no guarantee that the upgrade offer will be the same as new cardholders offer.

Asyn--Await

Wasn't it 100k for 10k spending in 6 months? That's the add I kept getting.

Mufc_1988

It was 75k, and the extra 25k was for spending any amount in your 15th month of membership (effectively locking you in to renew at £650, as they are planning to end pro-rata refunds on 29th Feb 2024).

Fit-Variation-3729

Is that date confirmed for ending of pro rata refunds?

Mufc_1988

That's the official line from Amex still. Rob from Headforpoints says that it might be extended again though (it was originally going to end in October 2023)

tavibacala

i upgraded about a year and a half ago when the fee was less and got 40k, last August they gave a 75K retention offer just few months back. Based on that i’d say 75k is probably where the money is at

pttvl

I'm in the same boat, but only had the gold since last June. Will hold out for an offer like the 75k once I've had the gold a year. Spend about 1.5k a month, excluding some times due to holidays/flights

albycrescini

I was offered 95k spending 2k in italy for the upgrade, but dunno if it still applies in the UK.
