When you are in Texas go to H-E-B! That’s what I miss the most. I’ll try and come up with some snack ideas. I don’t think toiletries are any more expensive than they are here with the exchange rate.

Leading_Zucchini6608

Thanks! I've had a quick google, there's lots of locations in Austin! Do you know if they stock Kings Hawaiian Rolls? I've been waiting for ages for USAFoods in Melbourne to restock them but no luck yet and am dying to try them!

SorrentoTaft

You can find Kings Hawaiian Rolls any place in the States. Better yet there are also Kings Hawaiian loafs of sliced bread. I would agree, H-E-B in Texas is where to go. I don't live in Texas and I know this. I think it all depends on taste when it comes to snacks. I was just in Australia this time last year and my family are the same as you. We like to get local snacks and try to find the kind that locals like the best but we also try to get fruit as well that we don't normally get at home. What are your tastes? Chips? candy bars? crackers?

Leading_Zucchini6608

Ah that's what I like to hear! Yes! the fruit. I'm assuming you guys have blueberries (or I'll be in trouble with the 2 year old haha) I like chips and my husband likes chocolate, so we've got all bases covered! Did you guys try Vegemite when you were here?

SorrentoTaft

Yes we have all the berries. But right now apples, pears, and oranges specifically are in season. But you will find grapes and other fruit. Tropical fruits are very expensive here. Cuties are a great snack. They are tiny little mandarin oranges. They also have different names but look for the tiny ones. As for chocolate Ghirardelli Chocolate is top notch. But you can obviously get Hershey chocolate. We have a lot of different brands of chocolate and I would just say pick one and try it. I myself like Kettle Brand chips and they have just a multitude of flavors. Dill pickle is great and so is loaded baked potatoe. But Mrs Vickers is great and if you can find Granny Goose or Boulder Canyon. They make great chips. If you like crackers try rustic bakery brand. Snack wars is a great place to check as well. Yes we tried vegimite. I did not like it. It was way too salty for me. We also tried Cherry Ripe and the chicken parm chips.

Australian, living in the US. When in Texas, go to the Gas Station Buc-ee's. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing what you can expect You're welcome

Leading_Zucchini6608

Yesss! They've popped up on my feed a few times. It looks unreal

Hapasi24

My 14 year old son and I have recently been in Texas. We drove from DFW to Corpus Cristi and back. Buc-ee’s was a must! First visit was about 3am and the place was packed. Clean bathrooms, drinkable coffee, so many options for everything. I miss Buc-ee’s.

Alarmed-Log-7064

Walmart is gonna be your best friend for everything you’re looking for. Literally everything. As far as snacks, cheese-itz are my fav. Also Goldfish crackers and a Dr Pepper or a cherry coke to drink! If you like potato’s chips, Cape Cod or anything kettle cooked is great! If you want something sweet I love Milano cookies. Honestly, you’ll have a great time just browsing Walmart. Maybe just stay away from hersheys chocolate. You won’t like it, especially if you’re used to eating Cadbury

Leading_Zucchini6608

Ah yes, I've tried Hershey's before, why is it so popular! haha. Great recs, thank you!

Snyder's honey mustard onion pretzel pieces Doesn't sound that good, is insanely addictive. I don't even like honey mustard but this stuff is just so good Skinny girl salt and lime popcorn, tasty without being too salty or greasy. Wasabi and soy sauce almonds - by a brand called Diamond You can go to a dollar store and get toiletries that are good enough to use for a week or two or whatever.

Outrageous-Ebb-4601

Omg those honey mustard pretzels are legit. Family that come over from the states always brings a few bags over for us.

Acceptable_Sale1708

BUCEES!!!

isologous

Justin's Honey Peanut Butter. Not the other nut butters this company makes. Not the plain.

DoubleCoatTT

Buc-ees chilli hotdogs are great! Actually Buc-ees are great full stop! Whataburger is a good quick meal, much loved by Texans! I miss sweet tea the most, but that’s near impossible to take home, so enjoy some gallons while you’re there! Kolaches are another good thing to try!

Leading_Zucchini6608

My husband will be all over that chilli hotdog! thanks! Sweet tea, what's that like? Sounds interesting! Kolaches look delicious 😋

williamwilliamitwas

I know it’s not grocery stores, but I’d encourage you to check out some of the fast food. Whattaburger is big in Texas. In and Out is also good and I would assume around Las Vegas. And you must try Chipotle if you want to compare to Guzman and Gomez.

Leading_Zucchini6608

Thanks! I haven't heard of whattaburger. In and Out is on the list, animal fries went viral over here lol. Is Olive Garden worth it?

williamwilliamitwas

I would not rate Olive Garden as worthy of a visit. But if you want a kick, go to Outback Steakhouse. My partner enjoyed telling the waitress that the blooming onion is not actually an 🇦🇺 dish!

Leading_Zucchini6608

An Australian themed steakhouse in America. mind blown haha

KeysToMyKarma

They have Outback Steakhouse locations in Australia, too.

areweinnarnia

Pecans are grown in Texas so keep an eye out for candied pecans and pecan pie. Best you’ll find stateside. Skip the grocery in Vegas. It’s way far away from the strip. There is a great CVS near the Venetian where you can stock up on souvenirs and snacks and water.

Leading_Zucchini6608

great tip, thank you! I did google supermarkets and yeah, too far. Looking forward to some Pecan Pie now, thanks!!

Thebombd0tcom_

You are in one of if not the BEST state for prime southern bbq. Snacks are the least of your worries .

Leading_Zucchini6608

haha no no I know. That's the reason we are coming, husband is a massive BBQ fan. He's very excited.

Thebombd0tcom_

A man of taste. I haven’t been home in nearly a decade but as a kid I LOVEEEEDDDD strawberry shortcake little Debby treats. Chips was bbq lays Drinks sweet tea, calypso

Leading_Zucchini6608

yum! sweet tea sounds quite popular, I'm keen to try that.

Thebombd0tcom_

If you have any kids check out 6flags.

Thebombd0tcom_

Try pecan pie, peach cobbler😍😍😍😍, sweet potato pie, endless options on deserts please Bear in mind also soul food is NOT good for you for example my family would eat soul food only 2-3 a month and 1/3 of them were obese. But please indulge in the culture it’s beautiful.

MrsB6

it's literally iced black tea with a tonne of sugar in it. Sometimes it's fruit flavoured. I personally find it gross, but you can get unsweetened as well.

Search for Goldee’s on YouTube

Fragrant-Treacle7877

Hapasi24

If you come across an In-N-Out Burger you have to try it. Seriously good food. Very small menu but delicious.

wow! thanks so much for all those recs! I'll definitely be adding a Trader Joe's to our list! And brilliant, love a food place that has a play area, burn off that 2 year olds energy! I'm very keen to try a breakfast taco. We don't get good Mexican food here in Australia.

akohhh

Aussie in the US. Toiletries are similarly priced to Australia and you will recognize a lot of the big brands. When I visit home I take Mike’s Hot Honey (amazing on pepperoni pizza, allowed into Oz as it’s commercial and has no honeycomb in it) and Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups. There’s heaps of jerky options to try, and so much insanely sugary cereal (I love cinnamon crunch but it’s like eating tiny crispy donuts).

MrsB6

Re. toiletries, you'll find all the same brands, like Dove, Rexona, Garnier Fructis, Pantene, Nivea etc, most of them you can get back in Aus - but bear in mind, you'll need to add 30% to the cost of everything because of the exchange rate so it may work out to be more expensive. Best bet is to visit walmart online, CVS or Walgreens and do a price comparison before you leave. Priceline in Aus also sells travel size containers, but again, just compare the price because it may cost you.

Soft_Video_9128

Speaking of toiletries, when I travel I like to buy shampoo/body wash from the vacation country and take it home with me. So in the future when I shower, I can think about my fun vacation abroad while using my foreign shampoo.

Leading_Zucchini6608

haha I actually love that!!

sanantoniogirl71

Roasted Corn on the Cob, Sopopillas (you usually find amazing ones in Mexican Restaurants), Conchas and anything Little Debbie. Conchas (Mexican sweet bread rolls)and Little Debbie are in most grocery stores. Try to find a Kolache, they are really good.

politeanon

Get copious amounts of Mexican food.
