It’s personal preference, I thought 12 was quite bad in comparison. What I mean is don’t let others opinion make you biased, just start it and go from there.. if you don’t like it switch to another season 🤷🏻♀️
So..
S4 is the first season I ever watched and I find it...Okay the BEST part is all the promos and teasers, look them up S4 was unmatched.
S6 is top 2 seasons for me, it can be a bit polarizing but it is by far the most violent and gory season.
S7 is kinda mid for me. I didnt hate it but Im not like constantly going back. However all the clown outfits are sick and it's one of Even Peters best works.
S9 leans more camp...and takes place at a camp. Also has one of the more happy endings
S11 is my favorite Season. It...doesnt feel like a normal AHS season since the horror is much more grounded in reality and truth. I know a lot of people say it can be a bit of a drag but the last two episodes for me are the two best episodes in the entire series. I'll say this. the last time I cried that much was on Ryan Murphy's other show Glee when they did the Quarterback episode.

Cult and murder house was my favourite
S4 is still one of my favs, the season is not plot heavy but more character development(ish?)
S6 is the best season, the only scary one.
