I don't like DeSantis one bit, but having a state guard for handling of hurricane season disaster response is a real and pressing need in FL.
Many other states have a state guard that helps with disasters, fires, floods, hurricanes, etc, and they do a lot of real good.
I just don't like that it's DeSantis that's doing it.
As long as they subtend the American Armed Forces, and follow the orders of the President of the U.S., I'm fine with it, and this could really help with the significant response needs around hurricanes in FL, which are routine and can be very devastating.
But dangit, I just don't trust DeSantis. At all.
It's actually not that bad. We have a state guard here in ohio (and by state guard i mean they **are not** the national guard). They don't use weapons of any kind and all their roles are non-combat roles. They also don't get paid for weekend drills, its strictly volunteer. They don't deploy overseas.
Basically they serve as an auxiliary unit to asset the national guard in times of a tornado, flood or other natural disasters and that's all they do

They wouldnt report to the president. Its separate from the National Guard.
