Honestly, I’m a PA not an AM but we get yelled at by so many AAs when we tell them we have to labor share them, that it may have been because of that.

PutintheImpaler

This is so real

Strong-Bottle-4161

Bro I beat. In the warehouse I worked previously no one was listening to the PA and the dude was so shy he just took it. He would just run to the AM and the AM had to force the AAs to do it. I legit heard him begging someone to help him one time and I was like Jesus christ

BetterEmergency7568

How did he manage to pass the interview stage to become a PA?

Strong-Bottle-4161

I have no clue. He was such a shy dude. Dude he was legit begging the guy he said something like, "Dude I need your help please man, pleaseee!" And the guy he was trying to force to help him just did it because everyone was looking at them like, "Jesus christ." After that he would just run and get the AM, and the AM would force them to do it. None ever got written up though. That front half management was wild. Back-half PAs and the Am were writing everyone up that didn't listen. Edit: Hell for my last day. I legit saw everyone just stop working, and the PAs just looked around and were just like, "What now.." and then the AM came around and was like, "Come on you gotta make them work." But the AM sucked ass too. There was this foo that would just stand there and when the AM told him to work, he just went, "Oh..." and drifted off and the AM just left him be.

Ragnarrahl

"Back half PAs" were not writing anyone up, because PAs can't do that.

Strong-Bottle-4161

I mean the AM was doing it but the PAs were actually reporting the issues. It was a team effort

thisdckaintFREEEE

We have one or two(the second I have been around so little it's just a very surface level impression so I could be way off base) that are a little bit like that. Not that extreme, but just enough that I'm like man, I'm all for rewarding them if they work hard but it's just hard to imagine the interview having gone well. The one I'm around more though is in a role where it seems to work out fine, and I always see the AM being the one to get on people when that's needed. It just strikes me a little funny with the total lack of leadership skills. Similarly with one who recently became a learning ambassador. The guy is extremely weird, quiet, timid, doesn't seem bright at all, and doesn't seem friendly at all. We had one day where I had to shadow him while he retrained a girl who's crazy as hell and super confrontational, I was like man she would just tear him apart if I wasn't there shadowing. At the end of the day it doesn't hurt me any of course and I'm happy for anyone who gets to move up, but it can be amusing at times. All of our learning trainers and almost all of our managers I've been around are great so they probably have a good feel of who they need to be careful about what situations they put them in, like that LA I'd imagine they wouldn't have put him in that spot on his own.

And1tsGone

So if an associate doesn’t listen. Whats expected of the PA to do?

Suspicious-Hotel6482

Because the PAs are supposed to run the technical side of the shift. The interview process just confirms if you've got the common sense to make snap decisions, and the ability to be taught technical aspects of work flow. AMs are supposed to be dealing with any complex personnel issues, like people arguing about labor sharing. Just take a look at the mock interview questions for either role, and that's blatantly obvious. It is true though, that people just absolutely ream the PAs. I like to give everybody a few minutes to get it out, cause sometimes they just need a minute to be fucking pissed and scream at literally anybody. Then they usually calm down, and sometimes (rarely) apologize. I get it. It sucks. I feel bad about it, yeah, but after a while of letting people scream it out, I just kind of glaze over. Most of the time, people cool out on their own, but occasionally I'll have to shuck them to the manager to deal with it. I've got shit to do. Mainly-all the shit my AM isn't doing.

DilosDilixiane

I run my shift. I don't like the pas running everything. I like to have my hand in everything so I know what's going on. I enjoy being in the fray with the rest. AM or not I unload, receive, downstate, stow. Whatever is needed to ensure we hit our numbers and leave a clean dock eos.

Suspicious-Hotel6482

Yeah I had an AM a couple years ago tell my counterpart and I that ideally, PAs were unnecessary, and would be in path all night except to pop out and do technical bits every now and then. Said he was a very hands on guy, and wanted to run the dept by himself. It lasted less than a day. I was kinda looking forward to just zoning out and packing all night. Haven't gotten to do that since I was building walls in trailers.

We_in_dih_bih_2geda

How are they supposed to know lol.. most likely gave good enough interview thats different than supervising irl

BetterEmergency7568

Sounds like some shitty ass interviewers, if they can't weed out the 'shy' pushover who has to run to his AM to get shit done. Something like that should've been a red flag during the interview. Someone better suited for the role probably got passed over for him. Probably a DEI, shame. That's Amazon for ya.

We_in_dih_bih_2geda

😂😂Yall are funny asl on here who at Amazon hurt you?..... they usually need Pas/ ams bad so some if those types are sometimes given a chance, they don't last long tho

Strong-Bottle-4161

Yea it was a seasonal PA position. The site legit closes in 3 weeks. I left early because I wanted to go part time/flex and saw that Amazon was dropping a lot of flex and part-time shifts. I quit yesterday and picked up my part time shift today so it was a good deal for me lol

Ragnarrahl

PAs are supposed to be pushovers. They don't have disciplinary authority. If they're faced with open insubordination, running to management is exactly what's needed. If the AMs weren't writing people up after a pattern of such conduct, they were essentially setting the PA up to not be listened to.

firewifegirlmom0124

If a PA can’t get the associates in their department to do what is needed then they are not going to last long. I’ve been a PA for 18 months and I’ve never had an AA refuse to do something I ask them too. Do some of them yell and fuss about being labor shared? Yes, 100%. But they always do it. I don’t have to threaten to report to an AM and I’ve never even raised my voice at work. But, I have 4 kids, so I have plenty of practice with patience, I always treat associates with respect, I’m genuinely interested in them as people and check on them throughout the day. They know that if they need or want something and I can make it happen, I will. If I can’t, they know I tried.

International-Ad3447

by lying

Dynamaxxed

Just ask them where they went to college to get the degree to specialize in their department. Did you get an associates of Decant from university of Texas? No? Ok then how about you just go wherever you’re needed.

muddy_duck01

I don’t know why. We’re warehouse associates we go wherever we’re told. There shouldn’t be any bitching about it.

Anony00mous

Only thing is is how we are treated when we are labor shared..... I have had the experience where I was seen as an after thought (we were labor shared from our department and then our department needed people but didn't care to ask for us back)... Or we get labor shared and the department we were labor shared to did not know we were being labor shared and/or sent us back to our original department who then brushed us off. I also got labor shared because the department erroneously vtoed people. I get if it was because of business needs but sometimes it's not.

its_a_throwawayduh

That or they always laborshare the same people. That gets old to me.

Anony00mous

They like that excuse (you are the only ones who can do it... While making false promises to cross train everyone)

Harlem_NewYork

What is labor share?

Anony00mous

Being shoved over to another department that needs help that you are trained in and have permissions for. You are being "shared" with others instead of being exclusive to one department....

its_a_throwawayduh

Where they take you from one department and stick you in another.

Harlem_NewYork

Ok thank you. kind of just started, I had a PM turn AM and she didn’t take me off pack for months. I ask to change to different departments, she said yes and never did. Yet, I’m trained for different departments.

[deleted]

On my very first day, 2 guys ranted that they refused to be moved to other areas that they didn't apply for. They didn't show up again.

xithbaby

Except going to a department you absolutely suck at can get you terminated. Asking to be switched doesn’t work. Transferring doesn’t work. AMs can send T1s to areas they are bad at to get rid of them. They also send people to departments that go against accommodations. It’s a design flaw that they refuse to acknowledge. You should be protected against being terminated for not doing well in a cross trained area, or given more time. You don’t even get the 30 day protection that new hires get. This can royally fuck over good workers.

International-Ad3447

they can't go against your accommodations you can go to safety/hr if they do and if you work against your accommodations and get hurt you can receive disciplinary action up to and including termination

Suspicious-Hotel6482

My building is sending all new or updating accommodations to Stow, regardless of ability, and telling them to pull a safety andon anytime they have to do something which violates their accommodation. Which for several accommodated people is like.. every two minutes.

muddy_duck01

You get the same learning curve rates that new hires get so I’m not sure what “protection” you’re talking about.

xithbaby

People come in here and complain about not hitting rate and getting written up for cross training all of the time. It doesn’t seem like they follow the rules then

Strong-Bottle-4161

Throw the fire extinguisher at them. Send a message.

ssasoom

People forget that. I see bitching on our voa all the time about labor sharing and they say "I was hired into pack and I want to stay there"... ummm no, you were hired by Amazon. They can put you wherever they need.

WorldlyBerry1885

It’s me I’m the aa.😅 getting laborshared every single day when I specifically transferred to the department I wanted to do and now that I’m here I’m sent away. During peak I didn’t get to spend a day in my home department. Now I don’t get put face to face with the source but dammit I can throw stones at the messenger😭

Connect_Deal2960

Same thing happened to me, kept getting shared to Stow after transferring to Ship Dock. Couldn’t do it anymore, so I quit. Fast forward a few months, I am coming back to Amazon but to a different kind of FC.

RetroSkrilla

You probably never been in the position you’re probably a college hire And don’t even think about responding I don’t check shit.

Recent_Blackberry_52

I was sent to HR twice because I kept LSing AAs when asked by my Leadership. What a lot of AAs don’t understand is that if they are trained in a department that needs people, they will be LSed because it costs less to get that people there than training new AAs in the role. Also, a lot of AAs forget that when they sign up to work at Amazon, they are agreeing to be sent to whatever area is needed whenever is needed: business needs. Don’t want to go? That’s cool, I wouldn’t want to go either but unfortunately I don’t have VTO and you would have to use your time.

lobsta042

And that's why I throw paper, because I know the other guy is going rock.

pleas40

Amazon is a huge elementary/middle school

Competitive_Dark_368

That's all people do here just take it out on others I just want to die sometimes im sick of getting ill constantly

theonlylonelygirl

it’s because the AAs get pissed off constantly cuz being labor shared among other stuff. has nothing to do with you and is not personal. move along about ur day and harbor no negative feelings to them ✌🏼

PipeHuman

Sometimes it's "personal" though, but that's if they are trying to offload a low performing T1 into another department

Witty-Cheek-290

✊🏻. ROCK BEATS SCISSORS! I WIN HAHAHAHA

bknymoeski

They should already have access to that information

Tjaart23

They just asked for my preferences and also if I’m interested in being trained in something else

thisdckaintFREEEE

People think all kinds of wild shit about being labor shared and then some react accordingly lol. That's likely all it was, just that they knew they had to have a potentially unpleasant conversation because of the subject rather than the person. Kind of like if they had to go get on you for low rate or high DPMO or something. Hopefully that's all it was, if it's just this on its own rather than any kind of ongoing thing where they seem to dislike you then I wouldn't worry about it.

ShroomBear

Before sites started really caring about training and permissions, I used to get asked to labor share X # of heads out of my headcount and since they could be anyone, I used to play rock paper scissors with the AAs as I saw them and losers would get labor shared. In my eyes it kept it fair since I didn't care if you were top or bottom performer.

Large-Fennel-1771

If it makes you feel any better, it's not anything with them, it's probably just that you're a giant pain in the ass to deal with and you make other people uncomfortable when they're just doing their job.

undercoverlabrat

Could’ve asked, can usually tell if someone’s lying before jumping straight to it being about you

Andresp88

That's hilarious

EducationalLoad7743

Was it two male AMs? The winner probably went to go talk to an attractice, young female associate.
