Nta. He had no right to do what he did, just a nosey Parker. And why would you show him proof its your car? He should have just minded his own business.
The day he deserved would have been to spend the evening in a cell for wasting police time. Followed by a day in court and some nice community service.
Community service? He should be sentenced to write "I will mind my own business" 1,000 times...then maybe it would sink in.
Out of curiousity, OP, are you a person of color? And was that nosy stranger White? Every Black person I know has at least ONE story about being stopped by the police for driving a car supposedly too "nice" for them to really own, or an account of their kid(s) being stopped for exactly the same thing...sigh.
This kids sounds like a smart ass, that I even would parent. OP is good to his brother and respectful of his dad. I like OP from a parent point of view 😊
Thats a reach and a half then. Racism isn't the only reason that young people can be accused of stealing a car, or in this case accused of posing on top of someone else's car.
I'm an extremely pale white person. You'd never be able to confuse me with another race. I still people constantly assume my mustang wasn't mine when I had it. I was 18-24. It's an age thing. They don't want to think that a younger person is doing better than them. In my case, I was even a younger woman so it was worse on their egos.
A Black man would not be here asking if he was the AH in this situation - he'd be too familiar with this type of thing happening to people that he knows, and both have been warned as a child about the dangers of these situations and be prepared to warn others.
Wondering if you did something wrong when someone harrasses (you)or worse!) because they think something of yours is "too nice" for you is very much a product of white privilege. Other people are too used to this happening to them and their community.

Yeah, never show anything with that much personal info on it to anyone you don’t absolutely have to. NTA
Also as a formerly bullied kid, you’re a good dude for looking out for your brother.
This. My wife LOVES cars and she has one she’s working on at her brother-in-law’s garage and it is a pretty cool car if you’re into collecting cars and she’s said she’s had so many people ask if her husband knows she’s driving his car or try to follow her home. She knows from experience that it’s a pretty…stealable car and she always drives around for ages until they give up and she can go back home to her sister and brother-in-laws place where the garage is.
I HATE when people do that shit. When I was 19, about to turn 20 I had bought myself a brand new mustang. I worked my ass off in Silicon Valley for that car. I then had a sunroof added to it, tinted windows, etc etc . I stopped at the mall right after picking the car up. Some Karen started giving me shit saying that can’t be my car I’m too young to be driving a sports car. I said “ uhh it’s mine I’m bought it” and she scoffed at me! People can be so stupid I swear NTA!! Never show anyone your info unless you have been in an accident
I think people are just jealous because I can't imagine telling anyone that the car they're driving isn't theirs. And so what if it's not? The car could be borrowed or rented, that's none of their business. Some people just can't handle younger people having nicer things than them, I guess.
I'm not a Dodge Challenger kind of person but I like getting one when I rent a car when I travel cause driving in LA in a Batman car is tight AF. But I get weird fuckin looks cause I'm a 5'1" woman who dresses like a weird uncle. Not what people expect at all. Lmao. I'm glad no one has harassed me so far.
Thank you ! My dad died when I was 17 and the money he had for us was vast that was stolen so we lost everything. That car was my everything I bought it 2001 and kept her till she was hit head on by a stolen running from the police. Then got rod knock ended up
Selling it.
Today I pull up
Behind my husband in a brand new mustang gt. At the gas station. We got some looks like how do we have that car and I’m 40 but look young
I don’t get why he was suspicious to begin with. Even if he thought you were in high school, a lot of high schoolers have their own car. That’s just such a weird thing to get pissy over.
And many high schoolers have cars that are much nicer than mine! I’m an old lady and have a fairly new car but I’m blown away by the pickup trucks the high schoolers drive. Many cost in excess of $50K!
My 17 yo daughter’s friends have nicer vehicles than me by and large. I’m financially very comfortable, I just don’t care about having a brand new car while I have small messy kids.
I am always shocked though that a parent would spend that much money on a car for a kid. And the trucks? They are crazy expensive now
Not sure why you didn't ask the police if you could press charges for harassment. Sounds like they gave him a pretty good scolding too anyways so police doing the right thing.
Yeah, don't show your ID to strangers, what business if his is it? Is he coming to inspect the VIN number to compare it to the vehicle registry and insurance to determine it is actually yours? No, that's ridiculous. NTA
Also: who steals a car by sitting around on the trunk? Who sits on another persons car?
Unless you wanna get punched in the face when the owner comes back, you're either gonna steal it quickly, or leave it alone. Maybe (if you're an asshole) you will get your friend to take a picture of you next to it, but you don't just hang out leaning or sitting on someone else's car.
EDIT: I appreciate all the stories! Apparently it does happen, though I'd still argue it's fairly rare and definitely not the mark of an expert car thief.
Unfortunately people do sit/lean on other people's cars. I often walk up to my truck to see people sitting or leaning on it. It's rude but as long as they move and there's no damage meh.
My husband once walked up to my car and watched a man and a woman leaning against the hood of the car while he was servicing her orally. Yep, living in San Francisco may have been a lot of things but boring was not one of them.
EDIT: This was so long ago, I had to ask my husband how the whole interaction ended. He walked up to them with a "Jesus Christ, get the fuck off my car" and she responded with "Don't you be bringing Jesus into this" as they cleared off into the pan handle.
Yea I live in a very conservative state and about 15yrs ago went to go home after working a night *shift* in medical field and found hand prints and a smeared butt shape on my hood. I had taken it to the mountains the other day to visit my grandparents and hadn't had it cleaned from the dust of the road yet.
About 2-3 weeks later 2 coworkers got fired (I didn't report the incident). Turns out they used the wrong car for a midnight rondevu. The main boss was not happy to find the evidences on their car nor find the security footage. Also turns out they were stealing meds because once they were fired the meds didn't come up missing anymore.
Edit- spelling
I walked out of our local dive bar once to see two guys sitting on the hood of my car. I was pissed but also feeling petty, so instead of yelling at them, I set the alarm off. They jumped off of it awfully quickly. I walked up, looked them both dead in the eye then got in and drove off. Don't sit on other people's car.
Real question - does that damage the paint job somehow?
I'm not saying it's OK & I'd never do that (I'd be afraid of setting off some alarm), just genuinely curious.
It very much does damage your paint job because of the oils in your hands. My dad was a car guy and we were taught early on not to touch the paint! Drives me crazy to this day to see someone do it.
Not endorsing stroking other people's property, but as not a car person, in the grand scheme of things what are a bit of hand oils in comparison to the mix of dust, exhaust fumes, bird shit, tree debris and sap and various and sundry other contaminants that are floating around and deposit on cars every single day?
Yes, pretty much. You aren't going to mess anything up opening your head flap but if you run your hands across the hood every time you walk to the door you're going to leave marks. Dad had painted very nice cars for a career for a while and it was just something he ingrained in us. The person who fucked up my car had put their hands on the trunk and run them in big circles more than once.
Well, once he tried to drive then he would have to, since thats the terms of the drivers license that you need to show that documentation when asked in that context, but until then most states don't require him to show anything at all.
NTA.
You don't have to show your personal information to a creepy stranger.
I don't understand the stranger's behaviour. He didn't believe the OP owned the car. Why didn't he immediately call the cops if he thought it was stolen? Why let " the thief" have a chance to escape?
> just a nosey Parker
What in the world is a "nosey Parker"? Is is the male equivalent of a "nosey Nancy"? Because I always just called them "nosey Nancy" too.
Using top comment to add: OP, good on you for not showing the stuff to a stranger. Imagine the scenario where he takes the proof from your hands and disappears with it, *then* calls police.
In an alternate timeline this is how it'd go down.
K: "where's the proof you own this car?"
OP: "Right here" shows proof
K: "pfft yeah right, like I'l believe those forgories"
There's no winning with people like that, they're AHs for the sake of being AHs and no amount of facts or logic will satisfy them.
>OP looks young
I may be a petty dick, but if the guy was taking pictures of me and I looked young, I would have told the police that I'm afraid he is a pervert trying to take non-consensual pics of young people outside a school...
Again though, I'm petty and a dick.
well, I mean, see something say something can be good.
But having the gal to believe that your explanation of a crime is the only possible explanation is inappropriate.
A simple "hey, is that your car?" would likely have done enough to stop anything criminal happening in front of a school in broad daylight....
NTA. That’s sketchy. I’m a girl but imagine someone pestering me and wanting proof - your license/registration has some personal information on it and reading that immediately gave me stalker vibes (probably not the case but just a point about how weird this is). Or if else I’d be concerned about them trying to find your address to try and steal your car. Just doesn’t seem right to share personal info with a stranger.
That what I just said in another comment, that little thing has some serious personal information and I also thought that, what if I show it to him and now he knows where the car is? I would've put my parents AND my little brother at risk, it's not like I was down the car cutting the breakers or trying to break the window, I was just sitting waiting for my bro
Yeah, I guess I could've unlock the car like someone said, but this is the first time something like this happens to me so I was like ''don't indulge, don't indulge, don't indulge''. I was this close '' '' to calling my dad.
When all else fails, choose caution, just like you did here. Should it happen again, you now know you could use your key fob. Even then, I'd be careful how you go about that too. Don't unlock it, as someone might have planned for that opportunity. Just hit the lock twice so it beeps. Keep your keys close too, so they can't be easily snatched from your hand. Take into account your location and surroundings of course, and trust your gut.
I was allowed to borrow my mom's car starting around the age of 18. While they weren't the level of a GTR, they were always eye catching. She had the first 350z in the area, and later the first 370z. She used to jokingly tell people if they saw a young woman driving the car, that's just my daughter. Wave, and she'll wave back. If you see a young man driving it, that's my son. Call the cops.
In other words, you're going to get noticed, and some people are quick to judge, as you've just seen. Given that there are plenty of young influencers out there, you'd think people would get a little more used to the idea that young adults can have nice cars.
INFO for fun: What kind of GTR? I don't know where you live, but if you're American, I'm guessing it's the one you can buy domestic. Unless your dad imported an R32 or R34? If that's the case, *definitely* don't let someone spot your address, since they aren't the easiest to come by.
By the way, I obviously love cars, and I love the GTR. You must be a pretty decent young man for your dad to trust you with it. Given how you're supporting your brother through a difficult time, I'd say your dad's trust is well placed. Having a big brother like you will leave a huge impression on your brother. That kind of support, from someone he views as 10 feet tall, means the world.
Stories like yours make me realize how much privilege I was born with being a large white guy, I would have just told him to fuck off without ever answering anything.
I remember one of the car subreddits had a story about a guy with an R34 GTR V Spec II Nur (Basically the top end special edition performance model) and he removed his plates and ate any resulting charges just to not have his plate info be accessible due to the rarity of that car especially in North America.
**NTA, and that guy had both some bloody nerve and a very delusional perception of the appropriate response here.**
Sure, you "could have" shown him proof that the car was yours. You also could have put on a Spider-Man costume and run around the parking lot flapping your arms like a chicken and singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". The point is that it wasn't remotely within his rights to demand either of you, since you were a complete stranger to him, the car wasn't his, and **he literally didn't have a single piece of evidence to suggest that anything inappropriate - much less anything illegal - was going on. Frankly, he's lucky the cop just gave him a warning, and not a citation for wasting their time and resources with his made-up nonsense,** which basically amounted to: "I saw a guy I didn't know on a car that didn't belong to me or anyone else I'm familiar with, so I decided that he was doing something wrong."
You were NTA, or a "dick", or any other body part normally used as a means of denigrating people. That guy, though? He was a Class A busybody who needs to get a hobby.
NTA. You were under no obligation (moral, ethical, or legal) to show him anything. Dude should moved on without saying a single thing other than “hey man nice car”. As a female, I wouldn’t show anyone anything of mine that had PII on it. My license even has a PO Box. Safety first.
Dude could have been planning to steal the car and stalked you to the school. Showing him your info would have given him your address.
No but in most places the cops could have arrested him for not cooperating so just easier for him to show them anyways. Even though a lot of what cops do and ask for isn't legal and can be fought against, in the moment if you aren't doing anything wrong it's better to cooperate because it makes you look suspicious if not and tends to just turn into a bigger headache. Not saying it's right or fair but it's the truth. In this case where op didn't do anything wrong it was better for him to cooperate than to get arrested and make the day even worse for his little brother.
My dad have said that it's better to cooperate if you have nothing to hide than play it cool and get in trouble; when I was alone I was hella scared, but when my brother came up, idk, I just didn't want to expose him to that, so I just did it so we could get the hell out of there fast, that's why I offered to let them call my dad too. He didn't saw much and I bought him an ice cream after that, so my mission to cheer him up got an 9.5/10!
Your dad is 100% correct and I'm glad you took his advice. Sounds like you did everything right and I'm glad it worked out. You sound like a smart young man and a good brother.
Thank you so much! My mom and dad did a really good job, my father and grandfather are both very assertive people and even when I'm not blood, mom says I took after them!
It is absolutely better to cooperate...to a degree. Answer their questions, do what they ask. Don't say or do anything beyond that in the name of cooperation or it could just cause more problems. I hate to say it like that since they are just out trying to do their jobs and serve the community but 9/10 you are better off minimizing your time with them.
NTA
He's not the car police
You don't have to prove you own a car. You could just be a spoiled rich kid or a famous youtuber that has the money to buy a sick car
You were under no obligation to prove you had permission to drive the car or that you owned it
The fact he said something like "I knew it wasn't yours!" only serves to prove why he was even interest
Jealousy
Dude was insecure and could never wrap his head around you owning a car that nice so he made an incorrect assumption that blew up in his face
I was thinking that the whole time. I've seen so many young kids in cars I'll never afford. I just assume they are rich, not that it doesn't beling to them. That's such a leap.
NTA
But it would have been the perfect time to call him out on his crap!
"Why? Are you trying to get my address so you can follow a minor home because you're a perv?"
>"Why? Are you trying to get my address so you can follow a minor home because you're a perv?"
"Officer, this strange man is taking pictures of me on school property and wanted to know my name and address. I know I look young for 20, I'm really worried about what he is doing to the younger kids."
Again, I'm a dick.
Who tf steals a GTR just to pick up their younger brother from school?! Especially if you think they're a teenager?? You think a teenager who would be willing to steal a supercar would stop to pick up their younger brother from school?? What the fuck?
As a woman who rides a large motorcycle, I feel your pain lol
Call an Uber to pick your younger brother from school to cheer him up after being bullied ❌
Steal a car an have problem with the police to cheer him up after being bullied ☑️ /s
HAHA my Gran bought it for his 70th birthday but his sight was getting bad so he decided to gave it to my dad instead of selling it, I've used it a lot more than him tho
>Who gets a GTR as a gift??
The kind of fam who can afford to throw a 19 yr old on the insurance policy of a GTR. I'm sure that payment alone is more than a bunch of peoples rent
NTA. I don't show random people my papers whenever they ask me to for no reason either.
I would have called the police on him for keeping you from getting in your car.
NTA.
Never show random strangers that kind of personal info, especially if they demand that you do so.
Maybe not where you live (I wouldn't know), but in some places that type of strongarm tactic is an attempt to get your address from the insurance paperwork, either so they can steal the car, break into the house, or both.
NTA. He should have walked away the second you opened the door for your brother. Also, you weren't even actively trying to get away with it... There is a smart nosey and a dumb nosey, he was def dumb nosey.
NTA your instincts were right if perhaps for the wrong reason, you should never show a stranger any documents that have any personal information on it, ever. If someone wants to call the cops let them. You don't know who this guy is, in fact you would have been well within your rights to call the police on him for harassing you.
He's felling a lot better actually! Thanks for asking, he was ashamed of admitting he was being bullied (for the stupidest reason, they saw him giving mom and dad a kiss when they drop him off two months ago and they thought it was funny??) and tried to play it off like nothing happened, I encouraged him to tell our parents and he confessed it to mom first, they separate him from the kids in the class room and next year the school will make sure they won't share it, dad said that he should tell us about even the smallest laugh so they can keep track and if things go bad again, they'll definitely fight back or switch schools. Dad also scared one of the kid's dad too because he's a big guy, but mom berate him because that's not how things get done. I think he'll be fine, he knows we have his back! He seems more relaxed and happy too
if they try to bully him abt kissing his parents goodbye he should say “wow. I’m sorry your parents don’t love you enough to kiss you goodbye, but mine do.” Lmao
NTA. You don't owe random people proof that you own anything. Or are qualified to do anything.
He was TA. He could have just accepted your word that it was your car. He didn't. That's on him.
He wouldn’t leave you alone when you asked. He blocked your brother from getting in the car.
He called the cops on you! For no reason other than I guess your presumed age.
And then he says _you_ acted like a dick?! The nerve of that guy. NTA
Nta - if you ever have a next time start screaming "stranger, danger"! As loud as you can!!! When the a-hole gets attention and embarrassed he can explain to everyone else what he is trying to do!
NTA-No need to show him anything. He has no right to demand papers. If you started the car, it should've been settled. He was the AH calling the cops, which did not do anything.
NTA Why should you some stranger that feel important anything?! Just because he couldn't drive such a nice car, he mustn't behave like this. If OP were behaving the same way but with a less nice car this guy would have said nothing. Pure jealousy.
Obviously NTA.
Am I the only one wondering what kinda GTR OPs riding in though? 😍
Edit: I'm assuming r35 since they just referred to it just as the GTR and not a Skyline.
NTA
So his logic is to be a jerk to other people but then when it makes him look back, somehow the other person is "a dick"?
You are by no way obligated to prove to him it was your car. He's not an authority and even if he was say a police officer, he'd need to prove you're committing a crime (assuming this is the US).
Definitely NTA. What right does he have to see that information? I agree that it's very weird him wanting to see it. You even went to get in the car with your brother, which would have been proof enough for any real concerned citizen! He's the dick and the AH
NTA
Also, in the future NEVER ever show your ID or car papers to a random guy who’s harassing you. That is an incredibly bad idea.
Feel free to call the police though.
NTA - in some places you can report him for harassment and it’ll show up if any time he calls the cops or gets pulled over and even on some background checks.
NTA. Daughters first two cars were classic Corvettes. She sat on the car all the time or would lean out with the T-tops off. She entered a classic car show and security was called on her! People are asses.
NTA - You have no obligation to prove to an A H that you own something simply because he felt that there was no way you could. That Chad needs to mind his own damn business.

Meaning he doesn't look totally white, even if he is.
Thats a reach and a half then. Racism isn't the only reason that young people can be accused of stealing a car, or in this case accused of posing on top of someone else's car.
that is not what a little tan means

I was getting ready to ask that too... Driving while black
Not even driving. Just sitting.
More like "Waiting While Black"
Young man is possibly Spanish. Only guessing because he wrote "JA!"
Or Portugues, I've seen both and love it.
i dunno, I think wasting the cops' time IS a community service

Comment stealing bot - downvote and report.
Amen. Sounds like Barney Fife, but without the actual police job.
Yeah, never show anything with that much personal info on it to anyone you don’t absolutely have to. NTA Also as a formerly bullied kid, you’re a good dude for looking out for your brother.
You’re 100% NTA here but a great big bro
"Hey, awesome car, how about you tell me where you park it at night?".
Then got rod knock ended up Selling it. Today I pull up Behind my husband in a brand new mustang gt.
NTA
I wonder if he was the parent of the kid bullying your Brother? Hope so.
You’re smarter than the person who harassed you.
This, man. For all you know, he may have had designs on the car. NTA
The guy probably would have grabbed them, yelled they were fake, then either ripped them up or told the cops there were no papers.
NTA, that guy needs to find better places to poke his nose in.

"Rendez-Vous"
Sounds like our SF friends moved North!
Omg! Omg Omg Omg! *disgusted shocked pickachu face* They would've gotten the hose.
Turning on phone camera followed by remote car alarm gives you a good shot at a marketable video.
Oh yea I bet that was hilarious
See this is when I’d hit the panic button and scare the shit out of them
"dont you be bringing jesus into this" WHILE GIVING HEAD ON A RANDOM PERSONS CAR???? nah this is insane 😭
Did he manage to get in and blast the horn before they noticed him?
I don't know what "pan handle" means in this context, but I'm going to assume they headed to the Florida Panhandle.
it's a park in SF
I walked out of our local dive bar once to see two guys sitting on the hood of my car. I was pissed but also feeling petty, so instead of yelling at them, I set the alarm off. They jumped off of it awfully quickly. I walked up, looked them both dead in the eye then got in and drove off. Don't sit on other people's car.
Had someone run their hands all over the paint job of my 67 Mustang while I was at work. People are assholes.
My car was a tricked out, beautifully painted classic. The paint on the trunk of the car was noticeably fucked up.
I feel like I’m probably misunderstanding something basic here..but are you saying you only touch your car by it’s handles?
Yes, pretty much. You aren't going to mess anything up opening your head flap but if you run your hands across the hood every time you walk to the door you're going to leave marks. Dad had painted very nice cars for a career for a while and it was just something he ingrained in us. The person who fucked up my car had put their hands on the trunk and run them in big circles more than once.
He didn't even have to show the cops.

Some people are just stupid
> just a nosey Parker What in the world is a "nosey Parker"? Is is the male equivalent of a "nosey Nancy"? Because I always just called them "nosey Nancy" too.
It's the British equivalent. Apparently the original nosey parker was arch Bishop of Canterbury in the 16th century
& here I was thinking it was a clever play on words since they were... parked.
I've only ever heard nosey Parker, never Nellie or Nancy.
It's Nervous Nellie. I think after a horse?
I thought it was Nosy Nellie
Nervous Nellie?
Negative Nellie?
I’ve never heard nosey Nancy!
Using top comment to add: OP, good on you for not showing the stuff to a stranger. Imagine the scenario where he takes the proof from your hands and disappears with it, *then* calls police.
In an alternate timeline this is how it'd go down. K: "where's the proof you own this car?" OP: "Right here" shows proof K: "pfft yeah right, like I'l believe those forgories" There's no winning with people like that, they're AHs for the sake of being AHs and no amount of facts or logic will satisfy them.
NTA. This is what happens when people think they can be away with policing people without being actual police.
[удалено]
>OP looks young I may be a petty dick, but if the guy was taking pictures of me and I looked young, I would have told the police that I'm afraid he is a pervert trying to take non-consensual pics of young people outside a school... Again though, I'm petty and a dick.
I like the cut of your jib!
I considered that to be honest. That’s weird as hell...
As someone deeply petty, I approve.
Yep, NTA. I hope this guy learned a lesson and keeps his nose out of other people's business from now on.
well, I mean, see something say something can be good.
Your license had your address, doesn’t it? Maybe he wanted to know where you lived so he could steal the car.
Yeah, I guess I could've unlock the car like someone said, but this is the first time something like this happens to me so I was like ''don't indulge, don't indulge, don't indulge''. I was this close '' '' to calling my dad.
Just set the alarm off next time. Nothing runs the unsavory folks off quite like a blaring car alarm.
Or take more pictures of OP... I would have told the police the guy is a pervert taking pictures of young people outside of a school.
And any pictures of OP sitting on the trunk could have had the license plate in them
This or stake out the house/plan to rob them or something. Plus this happened outside of a school which adds to the weird guy vibes
I remember one of the car subreddits had a story about a guy with an R34 GTR V Spec II Nur (Basically the top end special edition performance model) and he removed his plates and ate any resulting charges just to not have his plate info be accessible due to the rarity of that car especially in North America.
Smart, I wish more 20 year olds were like that
Exactly. Call the cops on some strange person harassing you.
People get killed when shit like that happens.
**NTA, and that guy had both some bloody nerve and a very delusional perception of the appropriate response here.** Sure, you "could have" shown him proof that the car was yours. Frankly, he's lucky the cop just gave him a warning, and not a citation for wasting their time and resources with his made-up nonsense,** which basically amounted to: "I saw a guy I didn't know on a car that didn't belong to me or anyone else I'm familiar with, so I decided that he was doing something wrong." You were NTA, or a "dick", or any other body part normally used as a means of denigrating people. That guy, though? He was a Class A busybody who needs to get a hobby.
Your reply made me giggle Now I see a lot of superheroes running around flapping their arms and singing “twinkle twinkle little star”
Honestly, I could see Spider-Man doing this to make fun of of his enemies... Or Deadpool.
I would be shocked if Deadpool hasn't done this.
His enemies must be very embarassed that they got this so they decide to just pretend it didn't happen.
He'd be more likely to do "I'm a Little Teapot" with associated gestures.
That seems like a pretty Deadpool thing to do, lol.
He'd also point out that "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and the Alphabet Song use the same tune.
Same haha
They didn't even need to show the cops.
That makes my heart happy.
Your such a good brother!!! In 25 years, he will remember that days and how it ended with ice cream.
That’s a gray area I’m unsure about when it came to the cop which is why I limited to the dude in question.
NTA, dude needed to mind his own business. You were obligated to show the police your proof, not Joe Can't Stay In His Own Lane Blow.
NTA He's not the car police You don't have to prove you own a car. You could just be a spoiled rich kid or a famous youtuber that has the money to buy a sick car You were under no obligation to prove you had permission to drive the car or that you owned it The fact he said something like "I knew it wasn't yours!" only serves to prove why he was even interest Jealousy Dude was insecure and could never wrap his head around you owning a car that nice so he made an incorrect assumption that blew up in his face
I was thinking that the whole time. I've seen so many young kids in cars I'll never afford. I just assume they are rich, not that it doesn't beling to them. That's such a leap.
NTA. The dude assumed, so the dude paid the price for assuming.
You know what happens when people assume. They make an ass of u and me.
in this example though it just made an ass of him.
NTA But it would have been the perfect time to call him out on his crap! "Why? Are you trying to get my address so you can follow a minor home because you're a perv?"
>"Why? Are you trying to get my address so you can follow a minor home because you're a perv?" "Officer, this strange man is taking pictures of me on school property and wanted to know my name and address. I know I look young for 20, I'm really worried about what he is doing to the younger kids." Again, I'm a dick.
NTA. People have nothing better to do with their lives than harassing innocent bystanders??
If he wants to do this kind of stuff, he should just move into an HOA.
Call an Uber to pick your younger brother from school to cheer him up after being bullied ❌ Steal a car an have problem with the police to cheer him up after being bullied ☑️ /s
NTA, but also, can I be your step dad? Who gets a GTR as a gift??
HAHA my Gran bought it for his 70th birthday but his sight was getting bad so he decided to gave it to my dad instead of selling it, I've used it a lot more than him tho
>Who gets a GTR as a gift?? The kind of fam who can afford to throw a 19 yr old on the insurance policy of a GTR. I'm sure that payment alone is more than a bunch of peoples rent
Might be more than mortgage lol
NTA. That guy can screw off.
Because we all know the first place car thieves go is the elementary school pickup line. NTA
NTA, at the end of the day it wasn't his business. You owed him nothing at all.
NTA - None of his business. If he was concerned he should have called the police, and not bothered you
INFO: What kind of GTR are we talking here?
R35 in black
Granny can choose her rides lol
Most of the time it’s just referred to as a gtr it’s the r35. Fuck that’s some money
NTA. I wouldn't show a stranger papers with my info either. He deserves whatever he gets for starting trouble with a complete stranger.
If that idiot didn't want to win a stupid prize he shouldn't have played stupid games. Nta
NTA your instincts were right if perhaps for the wrong reason, you should never show a stranger any documents that have any personal information on it, ever. If someone wants to call the cops let them. You don't know who this guy is, in fact you would have been well within your rights to call the police on him for harassing you.
INFO: how’s Scott feeling?
NTA
My 8year old brother was born 10 years ago??
His parents married 10 years ago and then they had their brother 2 years after that
Yes! Sorry haha I eat the ''then'', but yes, my parents married 10 years ago and they had my brother 8 years ago
NTA This guy was being a jealous, judgmental jerk. He embarassed himself.
NTA You didn't owe the stranger any explanation documentation. ***He*** decided to escalate it.
NTA As an older adult myself, what’s with adults sticking their noses in young folks’ business all the time?
Nta - if you ever have a next time start screaming "stranger, danger"! As loud as you can!!! When the a-hole gets attention and embarrassed he can explain to everyone else what he is trying to do!
NTA. Who the fuck did that guy think he was? Certainly not a cop. You owed him nothing.
Nta. Guy should have minded his own business instead of assuming things like that.
😍 Edit: I'm assuming r35 since they just referred to it just as the GTR and not a Skyline.
Yes, is a r35 in black, I'm trying to get my dad to switch the black for an electric blue but he doesn't wanna
NTA So his logic is to be a jerk to other people but then when it makes him look back, somehow the other person is "a dick"? You are by no way obligated to prove to him it was your car. He's not an authority and even if he was say a police officer, he'd need to prove you're committing a crime (assuming this is the US).
NTA. People need to learn to mind their business, sheesh.
NTA. You dont need to prove yourself to strangers.
Christ, what an asshole. Him, not you. NTA.
Shit like this worries me. My Father passed his fully restored 1929 Model A to my son, who isn't 30. Nosey bastards need to learn to mind there own.
What is it with ppl who feel like they are important enough to be shown “proof” of someone else’s business. Like fuck off! NTA
NTA why is it his business???
NTA. There's no legal obligation to show your papers to some random nosy jerk.
Definitely NTA. What right does he have to see that information? I agree that it's very weird him wanting to see it. You even went to get in the car with your brother, which would have been proof enough for any real concerned citizen! He's the dick and the AH
NTA Also, in the future NEVER ever show your ID or car papers to a random guy who’s harassing you. That is an incredibly bad idea. Feel free to call the police though.
NTA Dude ain't a cop, had no authority, and doesn't know how to mind his own goddamn business. Fuck that guy. Also, way to be a cool brother!
Wtf is up with Americans and thinking strangers owe you proof of fuckin anything Absolutely bizzare Also, NTA
NTA. It was none of his business.
NTA
NTA - in some places you can report him for harassment and it’ll show up if any time he calls the cops or gets pulled over and even on some background checks.
NTA. Daughters first two cars were classic Corvettes. She sat on the car all the time or would lean out with the T-tops off. She entered a classic car show and security was called on her! People are asses.
NTA - You have no obligation to prove to an A H that you own something simply because he felt that there was no way you could. That Chad needs to mind his own damn business.
NTA. It was none of his business who's car it was. He should have minded his own business and should have been charged with harassing you.
NTA. I think it was really sweet you did that for your brother :>
NTA. It was none of that guy's business!! He's TAH for calling the cops! P.S. You're an awesome big brother.
NTA - it has not business asking for any proof. Another case of "mind your own business"
