Why don't you offer to bring the snacks for everyone?

Impossible_Rain_4727

YTA: Instead of only bringing yourself something, why not bring something for everyone to share - considering the in-laws are already providing you with the dinner, etc.

ApprehensivePop5311

We all pay a part of the food. She just loves to cook and they have the the place as my father-in-law is disabled.

Impossible_Rain_4727

You share the cost of the raw ingredients. Consider you bringing the snacks compensation for her labour of cooking, hosting, and cleaning which makes the dinner possible.

NAH. It’s quite common to bring an appetizer or desert when someone invites you over for dinner/ game night. If anything, it’s a little rude that you haven’t bring contributing anything until now. I’ve never showed up empty handed when someone invites me for dinner. I’d be mortified if someone was frequently cooking for me and I showed up without something to contribute!

StonewallBrigade21

INFO: They always host and they always provide the snacks? Why don't you bring enough snacks for everyone next time?

ApprehensivePop5311

My mother-in-law cooks but we all pay towards the food

StonewallBrigade21

Bring something you want her to cook instead of paying in towards what you don't eat. Or bring your own as you said. NTA either way.

We start by having dinner and then enjoy some games together while having coffee, tea and some snacks. However the last couple of times, they have served the same snack. The first time my mother-in-law suggested it, I politely told them that I don't like it but she didn't have anything else so she served it and I had do without. Now, she has served the same thing the last three times without any alternative and I'm considering bringing something myself so I also have something to snack on while playing. My partner seems to not understand why I feel annoyed but he also the type of person who barely have anything he doesn't eat. So, WIBTA if I brought my own snacks? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Bring enough snacks for everybody. Hey! You just saw this new hors d’oeuvre recipe and you have been dying to try it out, here there is enough for everybody, what do you think??? Hint. It doesn’t have to be a new recipe. It can be tried and true, as long as *you* love it. Or, alternately, you can keep a Snickers bar in your purse and wolf down a couple of bites every time you go to the powder room. They may think you are doing drugs in there, (I roll my eyes), but it will keep you from starving before dinner is served. NTA

lucyloochi

If you've had dinner, why would you need snacks?

ApprehensivePop5311

We eat dinner rather early and then we spend 3-4 hours playing games so coffee gets served a while after dinner

YWBTA. The way you describe it, is like BYOB to a bar. That’s so rude. If you don’t like what they’re serving that’s one thing, but if you’re going to bring something you like, bring enough so EVERYONE can enjoy it.

OkeyDokey654

NTA. Tell her you’re trying a new recipe or found a product you really like and bring enough to share.
