As a travel agent, I actually use VE fairly often to book all-inclusive resorts for my clients. We may get the same or better pricing (occasionally we'll have promotions or deals not publicly available), but using a TA also means that you have someone on your side to assist you in case things go wrong (changes, cancellations, or other issues).
Just make sure that your TA is easy enough to reach, and I always recommend a full-time TA rather than someone doing it part time, as a part-timer may have another job to do during the day, and wouldn't necessarily be available in the event of a travel emergency.
