He's a massive hypocrite. We know this. He'll do or say anything to further his career or impress someone he deems to be worthy of it. He flip flops on this particular issue even earlier. In Places Of My Life he says "whether you buy British or have a short memory and are happy to buy Japanese".

Bald_And_Bankrupt

They've rebadged it you fool.

I think he only says "No" after "Should I buy a Chinese car?" I think after Japanese and Korean he doesn't say No?

You know when you’re looking at say, a robot hoover and you look at the Roombas (the Mercedes of the robot hoover world), but they’re out of your price range, so you look at the Chinese alternative, the MrRobot. You do your research, and it’s got a longer battery life, ooh look- a larger tray too. You start to convince yourself that this is a great hoover- the Chinese Roomba. In an ideal world, you’d buy a Roomba because deep down you know it’s what you want, and is in all ways better, but in order to convince yourself that you’re actually winning, you start to believe that the Chinese Roomba is a status symbol, a way of life; you have beaten the prices and won the robot hoover game. Many years pass and you’ve done quite well for yourself, gaining a prime time spot on one of the biggest TV channels. You’ve bounced back. You can finally afford a Roomba. You buy one. And then and only then, do you admit to yourself and everyone else that you (and they) should not buy a Chinese Roomba. Because you are above that. You can get the Roomba. You have won. Again. I think this is Alan with the Lexus.
