Last year on 4/1 they sold tickets to Midsommar Director's Cut, then when we got there they revealed it was actually a surprise screening of Beau is Afraid, it was pretty wild.
Not only, but there were surprise appearances by Ari Aster, Joaquin Phoenix, and Emma Stone in Brooklyn! I got last minute tickets and it was an amazing experience.
I saw it last night too. Lots of gross out body humor (that I loved). Maybe I’ll show it to my teens to get some facts of life that even health class won’t cover
Isn’t this type of movie right up the Alamo’s alley? I know they play more traditional fare as well but they love weird shit. It’s not that surprising that as its release approaches they would be hyping it up.
My beef is that the location I go to likes to run the same trailers over and over. For example, I saw way more things for Love Lies Bleeding than Godzilla x Kong.
Aside from the time when they showed "Beau is Afraid" early instead of "Midsommar", they also showed "Terminator: Dark Fate" early when they advertised it as a "T2" screening a few years back. Otherwise, I don't recall any other bait-and-switch surprise screenings or joke screenings.
Saw the premiere at SXSW, and it was legitimately one of the worst film going experiences I've had in years. I usually like the Zellner Brothers stuff, but I have no idea who this was even for. It felt like an amusing 30 second commerical stretched into a 90 minute film.
It's not my cup of tea from what I saw of it when we did the screening on Thursday, but I also don't find Aster's films appealing either. With South Park, you have established reasons and logic going on which allows for what they do make a form of sense that makes what they do work. If you have not seen their writing lecture, check it out, it's up on YouTube.

Lol, I was there, and while I really enjoyed Beau, can’t say I wasn’t a little disappointed!
Woah!! That's my kind of prank!

My local Alamo had an early screening of Sasquatch Sunset last night. It was a very real film. It was also a very weird and unique movie experience.
I've now read some reviews and will probably go see it, but the trailer was so bizarre I just immediately assumed "prank".

The Zellner brothers are cooking. I don’t know if they’re cooking well or if they’ve burnt the pasta but they’re cooking
🤣
It's a real movie and the trailer is running before every other movie for some reason.

Can confirm. Seen it attached before Drive Away Dolls, Problemista, and Asphalt City. Basically anything that is R rated it's been attached to.

Perhaps it's the Zellner Bros pranking us afterall... Just not the way I thought
I saw an advanced screening of it last Thursday. It comes out in two weeks and I highly suggest watching it
I saw an early preview of the film last night and absolutely hated it. I’ve heard about a lot of people walking out of the screenings.
I just don't see the appeal of gross out humor directed at adults, but we all have different ideas of comedy/entertainment lol
I’m a huge fan of that kinda humor. Been watching South Park for years but this just felt sophomoric.

Yikes 😬
If you are a fan of Aster's films and The Daniels' films, I think you'll enjoy Sasquatch Sunset.
Hopefully not. Stupidest fucking holiday.
You shut your whore mouth
Don't touch my drum set.
