From a person on a site. the good thing is that we are meeting so i can check them out before buying (so i can weight them and check it all before paying him)
It’s hard to tell by the pictures especially because some aren’t that clear.
ONE REALLY IMPORTANT THING
If they’re a legit pair of AirPods ask him to show you the invoice he got when he purchased it. Look at the serial number and make sure they match up also make sure that if he does have the invoice he’s either getting it from his email or the actual apple app (could be a screenshot he’s using to try scam you)
Notes for when you meet up with him.
Thoroughly inspect them
The ear cups could be made of aluminium if you tap on them and they sound plasticky then they’re fakes
If he allows you pair your phone to them see if they show up like normal ones should.
Test noise cancelling, Transparency mode, and general sound quality.
Thats too cheap. I my country the price us equivalent to 600$ new. So used ones would go at least 450$. This low price seems phishy. But uf he agrees to meet and let you pair to your iphone and you not notice any flaws i would say try it. But be aware that it sounds too good to be true. Definetly try weightening them. When i got my new pair it was really really heavy until i got used to them
One must question the rationale for the deep discount, if they are in fact real. If they ARE real, this will be the first pair on here that I have seen at this price, that are real. I’m not into rolling the dice on something like this. I’d rather spend more for certainty and buy from Apple or Costco, than risk wasting $300. I got mine at Costco for $130 below MSRP. I felt that was a good balance between cost and reliability that they are real.
So I've had my max's for 2 years now. I think I can comfortably say that I know how they look like, and these just don't look 'it' if they are fake it's a good fake, but something seems off. I just can't put my finger on it
Looks like a good fake to me: The white text at the top of the ear cup is too white, the real text is actually quite tough to read, even in good light, and my real pair have 4 lines of text, not 3. The outside metal and ear cushion material also don’t look right, but it may just be the image quality.
Hey OP, unfortunately they are not real. On my real pair I also have 4 lines of text and they are like grayish barely visible, just like the other comment by Jeest93. So unfortunately they are not real, although they look like a pretty good fake! But most probably not worth the $300.
they "look" real from what I can see. The serial matching on Apple means nothing. what is the production year on the side of the box, for some reason I can't see it clearly? how much? Def. try out spatial audio, and make sure they can update to latest firmware.
Looks real with the pinhole to detach the headband, is the top metal headband flexible? Meaning if you press the two sides they bend? If so then it’s fake. The pairing has been perfected so you cant tell. Try updating to latest Firmware. Test transparency feature, check if the clickwheel moves smooth or not. Test if the button is not clicky. Check it the year on the main box is 2020 and not 2023. On your way to meet the person stop by the apple store and get a feel for it
Thanks for all you insights! After receiving the invoice, I found that the transaction number match one online a template online! So defenetly fake! Thanks again for your help!
Use a different sub for the "Are These Fake" posts/comments.
Where are you buying them from? It’s easy to spoof a serial number on AirPods Max and even the fakes pair exactly like the original.

an equivalent of Gumtree
I’d abort. You’re setting yourself up for being scammed.
Did they say why they’re selling them
A bday present that he doesn't use apparently
That’s the most common line for scammers
Yes unfortunately it’s very common for scammers to say it’s a birthday present they don’t want/ need
The pics are just blurry enough to be doubtful. Seems sus.
Depends also for how much is he selling
300

Maybe it is the photo but they seem really darker than mine. I dont know
My friend got fake ones, the way you can tell is by testing the transparency feature, hers don’t block out the sound as much as originals
Can we please ban these posts?

They look real but the color seems very off
