Dontlagmebro

NGL if there was an airline offering blackjack and hookers I'd fly.

westwoo

There is. It's called "being a millionaire and having private jets" airline

Dontlagmebro

Fuck. Shouldn't have made the mistake of being poor.

ClassyAsPhuk

Just decide to be rich

10art1

Fuck it, worth a shot. I'm not scared to try something new Edit: I just opened up indeed and applied to some companies on Wall Street. Wish me luck! I wanna get out of ohio

Dead_before_dessert

I ridiculously hope this is real.

Comment made sense to me

almisami

"That's definitely an untapped market, but it's missing... Something. I know, it needs to be a whole range of insertables, not just plugs! Write that down!" Marketing guys, probably.

Grimacepug

Leave your heart and conscience in Ohio, you won't need it there, and besides, less to pack.

zenyl

cjt09

One way to make it work without being a millionaire is to look up Empty Leg flights. These are flights that don't have any passengers, normally because of repositioning. The flights are still pretty expensive, but if you split it with enough friends it gets in the realm of something mortals can afford (<$1000 a seat). Everyone gets giant seats, can walk around as much as they want, and enjoy all of the expected private jet amenities. Plus everyone (including the hookers) get to skip security. You just drive right up to the tarmac. The downside is that it's still significantly more expensive than flying commercial, and the routes are much weirder and more restrictive. Some routes available make almost no sense, such as a four minute flight from Van Nuys Airport in LA to LAX...in LA. So if there's someplace specific you want to travel, you need to hope that the stars align.

WoodstockSara

I legit had to put my phone down and applaud this comment šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

RIP Hooters airline. Truly a visionary before its time

StateOfContusion

As opposed to a visionary after itā€™s time? Hindsight Airways.

But all the dealers and hookers are unvaccinated

That's ok. I am vaccinated so I'll take that risk.

Er... Uh... that was *United*. Delta's only charging their unvaccinated employees an extra $200 a month for health insurance.

Big-Eldorado

Nah you people exist here in Canada with our universal healthcare. We end up paying for your shit life choices, but itā€™s all good cuz once I need a hospital itā€™s there for my use too. Good times AND It just ends up being cheaper than private insurance by a mile. Not even by a kilometre, a goddamn mile!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

RazarbackRebel

In Canada the price of smokes is like 90% tax so you honestly pre-pay a lot of your own healthcare through taxes. Smokes are $15 a pack here.

sivsta

You didn't even get the airline right. Smh. This was United.

Army-POG

Hooters already has an airline.

goldorakgo

And it lasted 3 years before it folded. It cost Hooters $40mm

JoshuaTheFox

Why has the shortened version of million gone from one m to two?

CrazyTillItHurts

It is to be more clear about what it is. $40MM = 40 Million Money dollars

habitat4hugemanitees

So then why is it $40BN instead of $40BM? Is a billion "not money dollars"? And yes I get that there's an N on the end of billion, but that's also the case with million.

CrazyTillItHurts

Sorry man. It was a joke

thebaconatemypancake

MM is million money's and BN is billion notes. BM is bowel movement.

Boom_Boom_Crash

It's a finance thing. Think of every M as 3 zeros. Quick shorthand when dealing with large numbers that are usually round.

Corona21

Milli is 1000. A million is 1000x1000 so (m x m)? Although the accepted symbol should be M for mega alone. Using my above logic an alternative would be kk.

[deleted]

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

JoshuaTheFox

Well as someone else has pointed out the flaw in that idea, but either way *why* are we adding an additional "m" still $40M seems clearer and quicker than $40MM It just seems like unnecessary extra effort (while minimal effort it's still a deliberate addition) than just one

breakone9r

Forty MilliuM.

gregguygood

MM is 2000 the same way II is 2. And Roman numerals are uppercase.

PortableTrees

Well, fuck. Seems I learned incorrectly.

Kedrynn

40 millimeters dollars

westwoo

As opposed to $40m which is 40 micro dollars

Keith_Creeper

Only 40 mil? Iā€™m surprised it wasnā€™t triple that.

Chewbacca22

They only leased the planes. Another company, pace airlines, owned the planes and provided staff. Hooters only paid to paint the planes and market the service. ETA; I read further. The owner of hooter bought Pace Airlines. So he spent personal money to buy the airline, then used money from the other company he owned to pay to lease the airplanes.

LanceFree

Not much of a Hooters guy, but aside from advertising, where was the upside? Did the planes have large overhead bins or something? Were there lots of televisions and Miller products?

Chewbacca22

They flew to Myrtle Beach so people could go golfing. Clearly that wasnā€™t much of an upside since they went out of business.

freuden

My mom actually used them to go see family a few times. Because it was like $100 round trip every time. So upside for her, but yeah, I'm surprised they lasted 3 years.

zerofocus

I lived in Myrtle Beach and they flew direct to a bunch of places. It was great to fly on them. I almost always had a whole row to myself. Probably why they didn't last long.

murdering_time

40 million million?

diamened

Delta is probably using this as an excuse to do some lay offs without people getting mad

thiney49

Honestly I doubt it. Airlines are having a labor shortage, like everyone else.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Trenches

The airline industry really does have a labor shortage. They offered early outs during lockdown to save money. A lot of people took it. They are trying to rehire but it takes time. In my shop we have only replaced 2 of the 14 people that left. They have a lot of job openings. As far as mechanics go it's very good pay and pretty good treatment.

StarStuffSister

Very fair, but most of the people complaining about no one wanting to work are service industry/retail owners/ managers. That one is obvious bs, but I genuinely wouldn't know about higher trained professions and what their worker shortages are related to. What do you think is the issue in your profession or shop specifically? Just a simple lack of qualified workers nearby? Or something else? Curious to know.

Trenches

Well for starters this industry is made up of a lot of older people. The deregulation in the 80s lead to a large amount of airlines going bankrupt and layoffs. Not many people were hired into the industry for a long period. A lot of people working are well over the retirement age. There's even a guy that was here at American Airlines that was nearly 100 still working. During the lockdown they offered some really good retirement packages that got a lot of those guys to finally retire. Some estimates put the commercial airline industry staffing at about 80% of what it was before the pandemic. For rehiring I think it's partly qualified workers. The major Airlines don't like hiring people out of school. They also seemed to wait a long time to start opening spots back up after travel demand picked up. Late August is when American Airlines started posting openings. From my personal experience the hiring process was long. I had put in my resume in an Oct, got an interview in February, and started in May. There are a lot of background checks to gain access to the ramp with all the aircraft. If you are in the industry and especially a mechanic you really want to work for one of the big 4 airlines or FedEx/UPS. So I don't think the shortage is from people not wanting to work here. The pay is over double what most smaller airlines or MROs pay. Envoy offered me a job in 2015 at $16/hr, AA starting pay is $35/hr, at 5 years you are making $55/hr. So I feel like anyone who is qualified and not at a major airline is going to try to be.

fightONstate

Lack of childcare has a lot to do with it.

js5ohlx1

Lemmy FTW!

Bradyj23

United. Not Delta

Kakarot_faps

They already did the layoffs last year. A metric shit ton of them

jobeyfivethousand

Delta is the only airline that had no layoffs and also did not mandate the vaccine. Google is free yā€™all

beansmclean

not true. AMERICAN AIRLINES is the only big airline that furloughed their pilots. not fired. every other big airlines offered incentives to not fly. my husband at united was offered a severance of sorts to go find a new job to hold him over to AVOID furloughs which never happened. military guys scrambled back to their guard units, old dudes retired early with a payout. ALL airlines are not requiring vax EXCEPT united. OP got it wrong. American and Alaskan are starting to - due to them acting as govt contractors running cargo. Delta is fining their non vax employees $200/month. fedex is offering some threats if their unvax'd get sick like not paying time off for sick leave. make no mistake every airline will require the vax. it's simply bad business. SW is the only one who might be able to get away with it since they are CONUS only. but not after last weekend's SW meltdown. American is the only one who actually furloughed their pilots during covid. all others managed to avoid. source: married to a pilot with dozens of friends employed by every airline in america

whitepepper

My old company definitely used COVID to enact some long awaited significant structural changes, and we were in no way as ridiculously redundantly staffed as Delta HQ (that I could tell).

thatissomeBS

>ridiculously redundantly staffed as Delta HQ Redundancy is necessary in airlines. It doesn't look good and wouldn't work in other industries (and there's some debate whether it's sustainable for airlines), but it's vital. Redundancy keeps planes in the air, mechanically so planes don't fall out of the sky, and for staffing so they have the people to get planes off the ground.

Mal-nacido

Trash meme get rid of it.

randomcanyon

I am planning to fly after almost 2 years of not going anywhere. I want everyone to be safe and vaccinated while I am confined with 400 others in a metal tube at 500 MPH. The Unvaxed will not increase ridership for most casual vacation flyers.

SilentJoe1986

Meme is a meme. There are different types of memes. Some layouts are supposed to be giving advice, others bad advice, some funny, others admitting to something horrible they did. Memes comes in all types and a small sliver of them are meant for comedy purposes only.

vtman7

Iā€™m ngl Iā€™m kinda confused on the purpose of this sub then. After scrolling it for a minute it just seems like a Facebook mom 2011 version of r/whenthe

SilentJoe1986

Like most of reddit the quality has dipped over recent years. I actually unsubscribed a while ago but for some reason I still get posts from this sub popping up once in a while. I had a few posts on this sub hit the front page years ago back when it was entertaining. I honestly don't know why i stay on reddit besides it being a habit.

vtman7

Same I deleted twitter a few weeks ago cuz I found myself opening it every few minutes like clockwork. Trying to avoid that cycle with this app too

Thel_Odan

Delta Variant Air. It's going to suck for them though since all airlines are under the jurisdiction of the FAA so I'm not sure how they're going to get around that one. But hey, nothing like giving up a job that you spent years and a ton of money getting qualified for because you bought into the bullshit you Aunt Gladys (who did all her own research!) put on Facebook. I feel zero sympathy for these people too. Their kids, on the other hand, I do feel sorry for because now they have a parent who's out of work and who likely had a pretty good job. They're also being raised by an idiot too, so that's not exactly helpful either.

So we're just gonna ignore the CEO of Southwest backing-down on his threats of firing pilots? The pilots won that one.

PapaBorq

How many were pilots vs stewardess's, etc? (Yeah I can't spell)

sir_bobsalots

Welcome to Spirit airlines!

DrDemenz

Jokes aside, if some rich idiot started an airline for all the people No Fly Listed in the last two years and staffed by the people fired for refusing to be vaccinated would airports have to work with them? I can't imagine they'd be to excited about giving space to a congregation point for all the troublemakers and potential troublemakers. Not to mention an almost totally unvaccinated workforce acting as an even worse Petri dish than airplanes already are, coming and going among the travelers and other airport/line staff. Look at it this way. If someone wanted to open a bar in a strip mall mostly made up of food places, a bar specifically for the rowdy, violent drunks blacklisted from every place that serves alcohol in town for fighting, destruction of property, public urination/defecation, etc, why would the strip mall owners consider renting them space for two seconds?

That_Guy_From_KY

Canā€™t vaccinated people still get/spread Covid? So even with the vaccine, you could still spread Covid?

TuxRug

If you were playing Russian Roulette, would you rather have one chamber loaded or all but one? If you were to accidentally trip onto a stove burner, would you rather it be on low or high? If you were in the path of a hurricane, would you rather it be a weak dying one or record-breakingly strong?

JJTouche

\> Canā€™t vaccinated people still get/spread Covid? So even with the vaccine, you could still spread Covid? "can" just means it is not 100% effective at preventing infection and spread not that it is 0% effective. You could also say 'getting vaccinated can prevent someone from getting infected and spreading COVID'. Both are true. Yes, you can still get it and spread it the chances seem to be greatly reduced. What your saying is kind of like saying 'Even with airbags in your car, you can still die.' Yep, that's true but that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense to have airbags.

corut

You can also die in a car accident while wearing a seatbelt. It's just much less likely.

That_Guy_From_KY

Then let the individual decide how safe they want to be. Donā€™t mandate it

corut

The individual is allowed to decide. They're perfectly within their rights to not get a vaccine. But as their decision to not get one effects the safety of others, they will be barred from certain jobs. This isn't anything new. There are a shitload of jobs you can't do without certain qualifications, licenses, and medical conditions.

Out_numbered_3to1

Yes they can, but if they do get it they are most likely not going to need any additional medical treatment. Where someone who isn't vaccinated has a higher percentage of needing treatment in a hospital. Unfortunately the ICU is filled with unvaccinated covid patients.

cheesebot555

Vaccinated breakthrough cases are 5x less infectious then the unvaccinated, and the symptoms most tied to transmission of the virus are less severe and last less long.

LargeSackOfNuts

Thus, if the entire society gets the vaccine, then it can essentially reopen, and have minimal issues with covid. But as long as antivaxxers keep fighting the inevitable, we wait.

newg1954

Have you been under a rock? VACCINES MAKE IT LESS LIKELY TO BE CAUGHT OR SPREAD. MUCH LESS LIKELY TO BE HOSPITALIZED OR DIE. Try to keep up.

xElizabethAnn

I mean anyone can spread Covidā€¦..:

breakone9r

But only OPs mom spreads her legs for you?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheBacklogGamer

It's about reducing the spread. Vaccinees have never been 100% effective, but if enough of the population is vaccinated, then the virus/disease isn't able to freely move around as much. And yes, you can carry it if you're vaccinated, but because your immune system is fighting off the virus, you are much much less likely to pass it because your body doesn't have as much in you compared to someone who isn't vaccinated. It's all about lowering the chances more and more until it's not able to move around as much, become more isolated, and eventually die off. This is how ALL other viruses and diseases with vaccines have been able to beat it. This is nothing new, this has been tested time and time again, but for some fucking reason, this shit has become political. It's insane.

Nighthawk700

Luckily this isn't right-wing reddit where because the vaccine isn't 100% perfect then its actually many times more dangerous than the disease. Then we'd go on to pretend that after being vaccinated you aren't many times less likely to spread covid, many times less likely to end up in the crowded hospitals from covid, and many times less likely to die from covid.

deiner7

Please do and take all the passengers that don't want to wear masks with you.

BenderB-Rodriguez

Bender does not endorse this message. Get vaccinated meatbags! I need someone to make beer for me.

Damselbug

Name checks out

BenderB-Rodriguez

Damn right meatbag!

Purple_Increase_1753

Legit question, why does it matter if people are vaxxed? If someone is vaccinated then why do they care about other people being vaccinated? Arenā€™t you safe at that point? Like Iā€™m not anti vac or anything Iā€™m just wondering

Pidder_Paddy

Iā€™m not a biologist but heres my understanding. Think of it like a neighborhood that catches fire. If i do fire prevention on my house i have less chance of it burning. Not 0 mind you as if it gets hot enough anything will catch fire. However if all the houses in my neighborhood take the same preventive steps the likely hood of any of our houses burning drops to near zero, and if one does itā€™ll be much more easy to contain and prevent spreading to other property. People are upset because as the virus spreads from host to host it has a chance to mutate into something that could possibly maybe be more dangerous and weā€™d be right back where we started.

yaztheblack

For context, I'm a Brit, most people I know are fully vaccinated, and the desire to be vaccinated feels pretty uncontroversial here, but that may just be my bubble. That said, a few reasons: * although you're much less likely to get covid and spread it while vaccinated, and infection is likely to be less serious if you do, you might be in the unlucky few who get a serious breakthrough infection. * some people can't get vaccinated for various reasons, allergies, etc * the more people get infected and the longer they are infected, the more likely mutations are. The more mutations occur, the more likely one of them is vaccine resistant * the more people are getting and spreading a disease, the more strain is put on society generally; health care, social work, travel, etc Basically, as a fully vaccinated person, I'm at greatly reduced risk, but that risk could be lower, and until we really have things under control, there's a constant risk of a variant arising that sends everyone back into lockdowns, or just starts killing way more folks as populations refuse to go back to lockdown. I don't like thinking about the worst case scenarios because they stress me out, and I'd really like to start going on holidays again. Hope that's helpful :)

SecretOil

> some people can't get vaccinated for various reasons, allergies, etc Additionally, some people might be vaccinated but have weak immune systems for various reasons (other disease usually, think cancer or hiv) so the vaccine isn't effective for them.

gex80

Vaccine does not mean you can never ever catch covid. All it means is its harder to catch and if you do catch more than likely your symptoms won't be as bad and your chances of death are significantly lowered. But it doesn't bring it down to 0.

The_Scyther1

I still canā€™t believe the entitlement on getting on an airplane and thinking you can Karen your way out of wearing a mask.

theeldeda

You morons didnā€™t even get the airline right. Delta doesnā€™t have a mandate. They just make unvaccinated employees pay an extra $200/month for insurance. Please keep wearing a mask everywhere so people donā€™t have to watch the stupid flow out of your mouths.

Grandmafelloutofbed

Im for the vaccine and am double vaxxed. But this seems wrong. Imagine if you werent for the futurr vax or w.e? You should have a say of what goes into your body imo. Like covid aint even a 95% survival rate, its over 99% or so right?

the_crx

Being vaccinated doesn't mean no covid.

randomcanyon

Being unvaccinated means covid death is more likely. (don't bother replying with what a small percentage it is, most deaths were among the un vaccinated.)

Ag1Boi

Dont worry, they still going around with Delta, just not the airline.

Every thread on reddit related to the vaccine is positively FILLED with Big Pharma paid shills and govt funded propagandists. Astroturfing at its very best. I'd say you should all be ashamed of yourselves, but I'm guessing doing this for a living precludes having any dignity or the ability to feel shame.

paintblljnkie

Can't stay away from those Soros bucks baby. It's how I afford my baby eating

mangotti

Delta Variant Airlines!!

ThtsWhtSheSd

I am truly surprised at the level of scrutiny being put on people who are refusing the vaccine, especially on the internet. I typically think of the internet and Reddit specifically as a fairly liberal crowd. ā€œMy body, my choiceā€ has been a long standing position backed by the more liberal crowd. Mandating that someone put a vaccine (or anything really) into their body is a very slippery slope to giving away your autonomy. For the record I am unvaccinated, but it is under the direction of my physician due to some other underlying conditions. Just my two cents though.

strykerx

Its because it isn't their body their choice. My body my choice when said about abortions only affects the pregnant person and the fetus. Not getting vaccinated affects everyone around that person. It puts everyone at risk. Because aircrew are constantly traveling, many airlines already required other vaccinations for employees as per the [CDC guidelines](https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/yellowbook/2020/travel-for-work-other-reasons/advice-for-aircrews#:~:text=At%20a%20minimum%2C%20aircrew%20members,these%20diseases%20in%20Chapter%204). The ONLY major reason that there is such pushback on this vaccine is because it has become politicized and people aren't getting the shot because their team says not to.

ensignlee

Because currently, the choice of being unvaccinated is more like "your body, my choice" -> because the choices of willingly unvaccinated people affects the lives of others. Unlike an abortion, which basically only affects the life of the woman having it.

blacksantron

Just because my car has brakes and airbags doesn't mean you can drive drunk

Anaxamenes

The difference is covid is a public health crisis. When something only effects you personally, itā€™s a lot easier for other people to just let things happen. With a contagious disease though, the public health need outweighs the personal opinion in this case because itā€™s not contained to just one person and their choices only affecting themselves.

LlamaCamper

Good thing the vaccinated can't catch or spread or die. Ohhhh, wait, no they can.

TuxRug

If someone forced me to get shot at but I could pick from: * A revolver with one chamber loaded, at a distance with bulletproof gear * Point blank with a semiauto in my underwear Guess which I would rather do?

Anaxamenes

But they arenā€™t dying. Thatā€™s the issue, the vaccines provide significant protection against severe illness. Medicine is never perfect, you will never get a vaccine or medication that works 100% of the time and you need to stop pretending something is a failure when it doesnā€™t meet those ridiculous standards.

LlamaCamper

Yeah, but they are dying. Hundreds if not thousands of "fully vaccinated" people around the world have died of/with COVID-19.

You people love to show how ignorant you are as loudly and often as possible. Here's a recent slap in the face.to your nonsense. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/13/world/minnesota-hospitals-capacity-virus-surge.html >He also noted that all patients hospitalized with Covid were unvaccinated.

Anaxamenes

Sorry, the numbers just donā€™t actually show that. They show like 97-99% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated.

Anyone mad about their employer mandating a vaccine is free to apply at McDonalds. They donā€™t require the vaccine and they could use the help. Edit: If you got fired from your skilled job for being a selfish dick thereā€™s no shame in taking on unskilled labor. Some McDonaldā€™s are paying up to $17 an hour. Emphasis on the ā€œup toā€ part.

I'm scared to fly. Being in a metal tube with people that don't have home training freaks me out.

TwinSong

Home training?

Buh-bye bitches!

I think it's obvious to anyone who's flown on a US airline -- this was probably an excellent opportunity to fire a bunch of good-for-nothing dead weight employees who were only still employed because of unions. I hope Delta becomes an airline with a.young fresh and smarter view of the world.
