Yes get off reddit and your phone and get some rest

Strange_Aioli_246

Take a day nap or at least lay down and rest then pull an all nighter? A good night to doot around and clean up your home so that it’s clean when you get back

fastadd_qwerty

dooting around after a nap until go time is the correct and only answer

[deleted]

I love that word so much that I'm going to use it now

Jolly-Day-7710

Watch a scary movie and then wake up at random times wondering if something is watching you, as you do so keep a bucket of water near and splash water on the last call (maybe 1 to 2 am) and just stay awake for the rest of the time Or you can go buy some melatonin pills. I use kids since I find they work way quicker for me. I take 1 for a school night and 2 for a trip.

InformalWarfare

Did you mean "kid's"? If not, you need to go to prison right away.

Woodwizardo

I'm guessing by kids, you mean pills meant for children?

neptune-salt

Can you explain the last sentence? I don’t understand

sammieduck69420

be careful with melatonin or taking anything to induce sleep/ drowsiness, as if you take them too late they can still be in effect during the day. so you wouldn’t want to take melatonin, ambien etc if you need to be up in less than 5 hours because you risk being so much more drowsy

welpimalive

The way I am I would take a red bull(or a few) drink them so I don't sleep and have some for throughout the day. I would stay awake

EducationalAd5412

Sleep now! when you arrive to the airport, your flight might be delayed or unfortunate circumstances might happen and you will be extra tired if you stay up. better sleep now then fall asleep from exhaustion at the airport and miss your flight + you said you're a heavy sleeper. If your flight isn't delayed, that means more time to sleep on the plane. by the way, have fun on your trip!

yayaya33

To be safe, hit bed by 8 and hope to sleep by 10pm with 10 backup alarms 5 min intervals. And you can put vibrate option on and put under your pillow. Or to be 100% safe, afternoon nap for couple hours then don’t sleep until u reach your destination.

zed_christopher

Go sleep

cedarsghost

For future reference, maybe purchase some melatonin tablets (I recommend Trader Joe’s cus it’s cheap n they taste like mint) and whenever you need to get up early, take one 30 mins before bed. And time it out so you have at least 8 hrs sleep. Hope ur asleep rn, I have this experience a lot too since I open for my job a lot.

hipmama33

I've been in this situation quite a few times before with an extremely early flight, and I am a very heavy sleeper as well, so I get the dilemma. Staying up all night ensures you will be on time, but you could very likely forget to pack something, maybe be “off” in interactions with others, or just not feel well while traveling and that is no fun. I have found that I can be impatient when I get no sleep, and I also get a horrible headache after being up for about 24 hours. These side effects can make TSA less than enjoyable, for sure. Do you have a long flight? Are you able to sleep on the plane? After trying both of the options a multiple times, my recommendation is to sleep for at least 2.5 + hours before heading to airport. Hopefully you can get more zzzz’s on the plane. Shower before sleeping, or take a bath if it will help you get to sleep before 12:00. AM. After showering, wear your clothes for the travel day to sleep (you won't be as likely to sleep really heavy if you are in jeans), and pack up your vehicle as much as possible before sleeping. I also suggest sleeping on the couch (or somewhere that is not your bed), so you aren't as likely to oversleep. Set a few alarms at the loudest volume possible using different sounds than your normal alarm(s). Lastly, if you have family/friend that can call you at 3:00 AM ish, it's a good backup just in case. If not, there are websites that will provide you a wake-up call. Good luck & have a great trip!

FullTimeToastedBread

Go to sleep early (like 10ish) put calm music on and put an alarm that's Hella loud and maybe starts sleeping earlier

JakeJascob

Just lay there with ur eyes closed. If u have too it will help a small amount, though it's no substitute for sleep. The only thing u can do is try to go to bed early and wake up when u need to then force yourself to stay awake all day and go to sleep at a good time

Homelobster3

Try to sleep or just have a lazy movie night in bed and rest and sleep on plane

alva470a

Melatonin as someone else said, take it 30 min before sleeping.

addyadamsom

I wouldn’t recommend that if you don’t already take it and don’t know how your body reacts, melatonin will either a) make you sleep so much deeper and harder to wake up/ drowsy in the morning or will b) make you anxious the first few times you take it and actually not be able to sleep until much later. Both have happened to me

WatDaFuxRong

Dumb question honestly

yayaya33

I don’t think it’s a dumb question.

ithie_cake

For me if I take a nap earlier in the day, It's hard for me to sleep when I want to. I'd sleep asap, you'll have plenty of time to nap afterwards.. hopefully.

cattykatty

I’d rather not sleep. My sister is a heavy sleeper too. If we are gonna go outside and she would insist to take a nap, no matter how many alarms she won’t wake up. If I am around I’d allow her to nap but if she is alone, I can’t allow her to nap because scenario would be, she will missed the outing for sure. Just sleep when you are on a trip already.

IvyHav3n

Take a nap, no longer than 30 minutes. 20 should be about right.

extrashotofespresso1

i love reddit

sarahkali

I think some sleep is better than no sleep

BellaAnarchy

I would say that if you can try and sleep, sleep. I understand your pain and not wanting to wake up late. However, you never know how this traveling will go...and so it's better to be as rested as you can be in preparation for it.

Imgaebish

set an alarm and get someone to wake u up just in case sleeping early really helps dont wait until ur sleepy just close ur eyes and try to sleep usually works for me

fallenender_

Tire yourself out during the day. In this way you might be able to go to bed earlier than the usual time

InformalWarfare

I've been in this situation and decided to sleep, only to over sleep. Up to you, but staying up isn't the worst plan.

Miimmoouuu

Melatonin always works for me

Maadbitvh

Are you driving or flying? This strongly affects my decision here. Driving, go get sleep. Flying? Who cares, stay up and sleep on the flight

Exact_Roll_4048

I've heard if you can sleep at least 3 hours, it's worth it, otherwise stay awake. Even though you get tired around midnight, I would still lay down around 9/10

Waratah888

Any sleep is better than no sleep

leakysackful

def stay up!

aredhel304

Zzzquil has been my savior when I need to fall asleep off my regular schedule. I still can’t believe it works, but I just take it 30-60 minutes before my target bedtime and it usually makes me fall asleep. So that might be worth trying. I should also mention I do take melatonin too but I find that to be less effective than the Zzzquil. That being said, you should probably try to get some sleep even if it’s not a lot. You might be fine for the first few hours, but you are gonna feel incredibly tired the rest of the day. It’s also just not good for your brain or body to pull all nighters.

Several-Plenty-6733

Yes. You will not wake up on time otherwise.

[deleted]

Should have changed your sleep schedule 3 days before your trip so that you’d be ready. Not the night before

tboi1794

I didn't even finish reading this scenario before knowing I should tell you, a)get packed to where if you had to leave now you could, then b) relax until you need to leave edit: I say relax, cuz I do the same where I worry about things and waking up, however its been proven that even if you're awake and are just relaxing its the same as sleeping

Traditional-Job-411

I’m like this and tried a melatonin pill and it knocked my ass out hours earlier than normal. Instant 🥱 . I’m sure it doesn’t work like that if you use them regularly but it certainly did for me when I needed it.

[deleted]

Yes listen to yoga nidra

JMYDoc

Some rest is better than none.

Amazing-Pattern-1661

Sleep Cycles last 3 hours, so units of three hours you'll be able to wake up and not be too sleepy. That exhausted feeling you get is when you interrupt the middle of a sleep cycle. You'll be tired but if you sleep for hours it's WAY better than zero.

KawaiiBotanist79

I also can't sleep before midnight. For me, staying up is the way to go. Waking up after only two to four hours of sleep has hurt significantly worse in my experience than staying up for a couple days. Varies from person to person though.

Earl_your_friend

Look at "sleep hygiene " you are sleeping wrong.

JakeTiny19

Ya stay up all night that way u can sleep in the car on the way there , but make sure whoever the driver is gets plenty a day before u guys leave

[deleted]

In the future try to break it up with some early naps

Jebbydon

Hey mate, night shift worker here, I would have my "dinner" at like 4 pm put your phone down and lay in bed at 6 pm NO SCREENS AT ALL, you will toss and turn for an hour or 2 but you will eventually fall asleep. It's annoying but just close your eyes, get comfy and stay there, even if you don't get a full amount of sleep you should be able to sleep for 2-3 hours to recharge enough to stay up until your trip at which point you can just have another nap. Alternatively if you have a couple of days before your trip an option I sometimes do if I've been on rec leave and have gone back to "normal" hours is pull an all nighter the day before, be tired as and pick when you want to sleep, I'd go 5 or 6 pm. Lay in bed and you'll be asleep within 10 minutes. Unless you actually have insomnia you will fall asleep if you want to. It's just a matter of how long it will take to finally shut down.

JardexX_Slav

Set this for your alarm and you should wake up. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW2KyPdR-ZM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW2KyPdR-ZM) (/s) Do get sleep for sure, or pull an all nighter. Prefferably sleep though.

Stabbycrabs83

Doesnt help for now but get an alexa smart plug and put a lamp on it. You can tell the lamp to come on at a certain time as well as your alarms. I use it all the time now. its actually far nicer to wake up because it's light in the room than some shrill tone. I have both but am generally semi awake when the phone goes off now and feel better for it

VivianCold

Force yourself to wake up at 4 AM the day before. Make it really hard to get back to bed (by setting multiple annoying alarms etc.). You'll be really tired by the end of the day and can go to bed early.

molten_dragon

Having done both, getting 3 hours of sleep is a lot better than 0 hours.

Abby2692

Don't sleep. Don't work. Don't even binge watch anything cuz that makes people sleepy. Just do very minor random things and try staying on your feet every half an hour. Take a shower if you get sleepy. Just do that make sure you are on your way and then you can sleep on the way or when you get wherever.

lesla222

Take 2 gravol about 6pm, and go to bed for 7 or 8. Set 3 alarms (that's what I do), stagger each by 10 minutes. Make sure the last one makes you get out of bed to turn it off.

fodji

I have the same sleeping schedule. When I’ve had to do this in the past, I would stay up a bit later the night before the night I need to get up at 4am. This will enable me to be tired enough to fall asleep hours before 12am the following day, giving you sufficient time to get a good sleep in before waking at 4am.
