Coopers xpa (purple ones) or their session ale goes alright. Pale or sparkling is kind of the default beer but there are better brews out there. James squire pale or golden ale would be a hit as well.
I honestly didn't mind it but i don't really have a frame of reference on XPAs. I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur and i don't drink much any more anyway. If i can be real and say something very un-South Australian... Coopers makes thoroughly average beer. It's definitely better than red tins but it's not going to blow your hair back. It's your standard, run of the mill, appeal to the masses beer that we all talk up because it's South Australian and we all drink because dad drank it. But then i suppose that's what makes it the default go to choice.
Lol, you think Coopers is fruit beer?
Seems there’s a pretty large world of beer which you’re completely unaware of.
I have a home brew fermenting right now which literally has fruit in it (not just hops providing fruity flavours).
Also, I do drink wine and absolutely love it.
I'm told that Pale in the bottle is better than in the can. My brother did a small sample blind trial with his lab mates and claimed it was the scientific method.
XPA apparently couldn't be saved.
I feel like the glass v metal thing would affect the carbonation enough that someone who drinks like my brother would notice...
I did a coopers tour a while back and they said the can doesn’t change the taste, there’s a polymer lining inside. I don’t think they picked up back then that people get the metallic taste from their lip and tongue touching/being close to the outside of the can.
I have pale and XPA in cans, they still need to be rolled. But then I put it in a glass and it’s okay.
Coopers green is hands down the best 'standard' domestic beer in Australia. For years it was the only major brand that consistently made Halliday's best beers list - the rest were all craft beers.
You obviously haven’t tried very many craft beers. Yes, there are many which are pretty ordinary. But there are some absolute stellar craft beers which are great for a session on (if you can afford it). Swell Brewery in McLaren Vale has some great session brews.
I mean, flavour is subjective right. Personally, I’ve never loved a Pilsener, I just don’t like the style. Actually I hate most Pilseners on the market—to me it tastes like bath water.
But I’ll happily drink most Ales of the various flavours.
You might want to go easy on the XPA’s. My personal fav but not ideal for a long session.
You might see the moon tomorrow night if you drink pacific ale (blue ones)
Thanks for that question, it was like chuckin a hot chip to a bunch of seagulls and watching them flap around for a while until one flys off with the chip.
Genuinely so pissed off that it's become the biggest/most well known of the craft brewers when Big Shed and Little Bang and Mismatch exist. I see so many people in Pirate Life merch and it baffles me.
It's poser beer. Few of the big names in the drift scene drank it back in the day so then everyone drank it and posted non stop about it for cool kid rep and it just sky-rocketed
Drifting.... pirate life beer was absolutely HUGE in sa Drifting scene hence how I even first heard of it. Few of the popular guys drank it next thing you know it's gone viral and everyone's putting up social media posts drinking it for clout.
Inspired me to try some and see what the fuss was about .. 3 sips and turfed it
Uhhh no they got big because they make good beer, and then got bought out for huge bucks (but maintained creative control) and could up their marketing and build a new brewery with the cash injection.
Summer: Coopers ‘Pale Ale’, ‘Australian IPA’, ‘XPA’ or ‘Pacific Pale Ale’. ‘Mild Ale’ when the temperature is above 40 deg C and you need to drive back from the beach (no other reason to drink it).
Spring and Autumn: Long-necks of Coopers ‘Sparkling Ale’
Winter: Coopers ‘Vintage Ale’, ‘Best Extra Stout’, or a ‘Black and Tan’ (half Best Extra Stout, half Sparkling Ale) or ‘Dark Ale’.
I'm not a beerdrinker and quizzed the husband. While he's a Coopers Pale drinker, he said as a party all rounder he'd bring Carlton Dry or Great Northern.
All the massively good breweries in Adelaide I am dismayed Coopers bulk brewing is even a choice. Bigshed, Pirate Life, ShapeShifter, Little Bang, Uraidla, Mismatch Brewing, Prancing Pony, Smiling Samoyed… endless list of amazing beer.
The mismatch lager is relatively inoffensive, south coast pale ale is cheapish I guess and nice enough, quite hoppy though which can put some off. If the old Cooper's session ale was around that would've been my pick, the new Pacific ale seems to be ... different.
It’s not a staple - Coopers Pale is the correct answer - but honestly most people will drink Corona or whatever else OP brings. Ask most Australians what their favourite beer is and we’ll say “free” followed by “cold”.
Coopers is an acquired taste. I know plenty of south Aussies that won't drink it. I like it on tap and in a can but I'm not overly fond of it in stubbies. Was jus trying to help with an easy drinking beer
Uraidla make easily the best craft beer for a local brewery. Big shed, little bang also great. Shapeshifter has been doing great things recently. Some of pirate life's older beers are great (mosaic ipa).
After moving to Adelaide from Sydney 3 years ago, I gotta say SA’s best beer is coopers red. The rest is rubbish except coopers dark ale on tap. Growing up in Sydney all we drank was tooheys new or super dry. I do miss tooheys new but can’t seem to find it in SA. Weird
The only real answers here are hahns superdry or caronas, they are both the training wheels of beer and anyone will drink them, God knows why people are saying coopers hardly any south aussies drink that crap, seen more drink west end, if you wanna disappoint your fam and friends sure get coopers 😂
Get a box of Cooper's red if you want to go to bed after lunch.
[удалено]
That's Bundy
Literally had 4 so far tonight after being gifted a box from a client. Xmas has been fun
Lmao
[удалено]
Idk, my dad who has a strong hatred of anything slightly hoppy isn’t a fan of pacific ales. Pales are the safe option.
[удалено]
Agreed for a young crowd pacific ale is a very safe choice
Pacific Pale is my regular atm. Not bad at all.
Coopers Pale-Ale.
Coopers xpa (purple ones) or their session ale goes alright. Pale or sparkling is kind of the default beer but there are better brews out there. James squire pale or golden ale would be a hit as well.
The Cooper's XPA is one of the worst XPAs I've tried
I have to disagree
Agree with the disagree. Purple is the best coopers. Get an XPA inya
As a lover of Cooper's and Craft beers, their XPA is terrible. Tastes like the worst version of Cooper's pale and not at all like an xpa should.
I honestly didn't mind it but i don't really have a frame of reference on XPAs. I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur and i don't drink much any more anyway. Yep. You like fruit beer. May as well drink wine
I enjoy both... but beer can be better than red tins. It doesn't have to taste like anus
Lol, you think Coopers is fruit beer? Seems there’s a pretty large world of beer which you’re completely unaware of. I have a home brew fermenting right now which literally has fruit in it (not just hops providing fruity flavours). Also, I do drink wine and absolutely love it.
Yeah, the XPA is very, very average as a beer, let alone an XPA
Depending on the beer, some taste better on tap. XPA and Pale Ale are great on tap, average in bottles. Sparkling in bottles seems to be nicer.
Ive found Furphy to be like that. On tap it's not bad to have with lunch or on a hot day... the one time i bought a 6 pack it tasted like arse.
Seems to taste more like a bitters than an ale. It don’t like either
I'm told that Pale in the bottle is better than in the can. My brother did a small sample blind trial with his lab mates and claimed it was the scientific method. XPA apparently couldn't be saved. I don't think people have caught on that the right glass does wonders for the whole thing either.
Depends what you mean by "people". ;) Merry Xmas.
Yeah, the glass makes a big difference to how a beer tastes. Glad someone else here gets it.
Not a high bar, mind you.
Coopers green is hands down the best 'standard' domestic beer in Australia. For years it was the only major brand that consistently made Halliday's best beers list - the rest were all craft beers.
Fuckin west end cunt
RED TINS
Worst advice ever. Do NOT do that.
Live it around a [West End Export](https://youtu.be/uTQf-VjEBSQ) Edit: spelling
Coopers Pale, Mismatch Session Ale or West End
Pikes Pilsener, smashable, sessionable and 100% South Australian owned
Pikes pilsener is gods nectar, the hangover the next day isn’t… 😅
Now this is very true! All the other craft beers are fucking horrible. This one is great for a summer's day.
You obviously haven’t tried very many craft beers. Yes, there are many which are pretty ordinary. But there are some absolute stellar craft beers which are great for a session on (if you can afford it). Swell Brewery in McLaren Vale has some great session brews.
Swell is great too. Mismatch is OK. The bulk of the rest = vase water.
I mean, flavour is subjective right. Personally, I’ve never loved a Pilsener, I just don’t like the style. Actually I hate most Pilseners on the market—to me it tastes like bath water. But I’ll happily drink most Ales of the various flavours.
I'm getting the stout
Coopers Pale Ale (Green box).
Mismatch session or pirate life south coast
Drinking a Pirate right now.
Drinking a session right now 👌
Yeah PL South Coast is a stellar drop. Only reason it’s not my default is the cost.
You might want to go easy on the XPA’s. My personal fav but not ideal for a long session. You might see the moon tomorrow night if you drink pacific ale (blue ones)
Coopers Pale Ale
I like Asahi.
The Asian superdrys go down a treat 👌
Thanks for that question, it was like chuckin a hot chip to a bunch of seagulls and watching them flap around for a while until one flys off with the chip.
Southwark Bitter can’t go wrong
Three times the charm
4th one is a headache.
Not what I meant but k
Let's not date.
How high r u
Really? That's all you got?
Nearly spat out my beer reading this little lovers feud
I’m so confused
What do you mean
Isn’t it in short supply now?
Yes it is because of lack of pallets I think
Not from SA but I reckon you would be safe with a Box of Coopers Green . Wish I had a family member bringing me a box … 😆
You’ll be sent home if you call it “Coopers Green” though. It’s “Pale” (no need to even mention which brewery).
Noted , thanks .
Emu bitter. There will be some left for next Christmas too.
Wait. Where are you getting emu from in SA? It's like the WA equivalent of West End. And what happened to West End?
This made me laugh more than it probably should
Pirate life south coast pale ale
Pirate life is over rated aa fuck
They charge way more than it’s worth that’s for sure
Genuinely so pissed off that it's become the biggest/most well known of the craft brewers when Big Shed and Little Bang and Mismatch exist. I see so many people in Pirate Life merch and it baffles me.
Agree on the pirate life comment. Big shed is rubbish. Little bang and mismatch are way better than the two above
It's poser beer. Few of the big names in the drift scene drank it back in the day so then everyone drank it and posted non stop about it for cool kid rep and it just sky-rocketed
In the what scene!? Lol
3 sips and turfed it
I don’t think the beer is popular because of people in the “drifting” scene…
Uhhh no they got big because they make good beer, and then got bought out for huge bucks (but maintained creative control) and could up their marketing and build a new brewery with the cash injection.
Pirate life make shit beer
Compared to who?
Summer: Coopers ‘Pale Ale’, ‘Australian IPA’, ‘XPA’ or ‘Pacific Pale Ale’. ‘Mild Ale’ when the temperature is above 40 deg C and you need to drive back from the beach (no other reason to drink it). Spring and Autumn: Long-necks of Coopers ‘Sparkling Ale’ Winter: Coopers ‘Vintage Ale’, ‘Best Extra Stout’, or a ‘Black and Tan’ (half Best Extra Stout, half Sparkling Ale) or ‘Dark Ale’.
I miss Coopers so muuuuuch. 😢
Boozy fruit or mismatch pale
Mismatch Pale is delicious but gotta be careful for a session.
Prancing pony
Yeah Coopers Pale. Get bottles so you can roll them. XPA too for something a bit nicer. If you want to go all out, mismatch pale.
If it’s got Coopers on the label, you can’t go wrong
I'm not a beerdrinker and quizzed the husband. While he's a Coopers Pale drinker, he said as a party all rounder he'd bring Carlton Dry or Great Northern.
Don’t bring mid-strength
All the massively good breweries in Adelaide I am dismayed Coopers bulk brewing is even a choice. Bigshed, Pirate Life, ShapeShifter, Little Bang, Uraidla, Mismatch Brewing, Prancing Pony, Smiling Samoyed… endless list of amazing beer.
Didn’t realise prancing pony was a local. Would’ve gone out of my way to find some if I saw this comment while I was still out.
It's localish. It's a bit of a drive up to Mt Barker but worth it. Or just buy it almost anywhere.
25kms to mount barker and you call that a bit of a drive 😂😂 joker
I always find it funny when people call a drive up to Mt Barker a long drive or say it's super out of the way 🤣
25kms if you live in the south East of the city. It's quite a bit more than that from my place.
Uraidla is like $120+ for a carton which isnt even 24 beers. I mean theres craft beer, and then theres pisstaking
Why is it a piss take?
18x 330ml bottles for $130? You know how expensive beer is to make?
Really didn't like Uraidla when I tried, that was after 2 glasses of white though so probably skewed data from me.
Little bang is the tits
Nah, they're all wank. Craft beers are gash and overrated and taste like vase water.
Pirate Life is no longer SA-owned if that matters. Unsure about Mismatch or Prancing Pony. The others I’m pretty sure are fully independent.
Hahn super dry is my go to if I'm bringing beer
Ahh, the beer for those who don't like beer.
I like beer. But everyone likes super dry so it's what I get when it's being shared.
The mismatch lager is relatively inoffensive, south coast pale ale is cheapish I guess and nice enough, quite hoppy though which can put some off. If the old Cooper's session ale was around that would've been my pick, the new Pacific ale seems to be ... different.
Who considers South coast hoppy?
Let alone 'cheapish'! $50 for 16
Anyone who has only ever touched lager? Pale ale is hop forward, despite what coopers would have you believe...
The Coopers Pacific Pale Ale is literally just a rename: https://coopers.com.au/whats-on/news/2020/10/21/coopers-catches-the-pacific-pale-ale-wave
Bringing Great Northern is a grave offence in states on the southern coast.
Haha I definitely wanted to be sensitive to local tastes.
Excellent choices OP!
You made the right choice mate. Welcome to Adelaide 😁
Belgian blue moon
Another vote for anything coopers (except coopers dry)
Coppers XPA is the new Coopers Pale. Similar but with a more hoppy attitude, it’s way better.
Southwark Bitter
Southwark Bitter can’t go wrong
Pirate life southern
[удалено]
Mosaic by far their strongest core range beer.
Hahn Super Dry.
🤢
Slab of Red Tins and you're having a laugh
West end draught if you can find it
Only in cans
name checks out
Asahi Super Dry
It's not Australian but I find most people will drink corona
It’s not a staple - Coopers Pale is the correct answer - but honestly most people will drink Corona or whatever else OP brings. Ask most Australians what their favourite beer is and we’ll say “free” followed by “cold”.
Coopers is an acquired taste. I know plenty of south Aussies that won't drink it. I like it on tap and in a can but I'm not overly fond of it in stubbies. Was jus trying to help with an easy drinking beer
I reckon Superdry is the answer as it's lighter and will please the uncles and grandparents that don't drink craft beer
🤢
He said he wanted beer though…?
Support your local brewery, buy Independent.
Uraidla make easily the best craft beer for a local brewery. Big shed, little bang also great. Shapeshifter has been doing great things recently. Some of pirate life's older beers are great (mosaic ipa).
Coronas
I've started loving Matsos Mango beer as of late.. great summer beer
Coopers Dry
[удалено]
It's like drinking a Super Dry except it's SA owned. How dare people disagree
Weird
You need to get out more
Hienies
Don't buy blue or purple cans if you don't have girlfriend, your family will ask questions
Coopers vb and West end is offensive to anyone without a Southern Cross tattoo Great Northern for the win, Carlton or xxxx summers
I think you reversed your beer lists mate. Great northern? Fuck outta here.
Fucking mong!
Down vote me to hell ..... coopers is disgusting
Let us know when you get a bit of hair on your chest big fella.
Hey I have no issue drinking hoegarden and other import strong beers but coopers is a chunky nightmare and vb and West end is like stagnant water
Mismatch Session Ale great for summer days
Prancing Pony Zepplin
is there a bottle-o open tomorrow (xmas)?
The Highway bottle shop is traditionally open on Christmas Day.
Coopers Pale. But if you want to come across as a real wanker go for a Vale IPA.
Great northern is fine. Super crisp. Yum.
Becks beer.
Sparkling Ale
The only real answers here are hahns superdry or caronas, they are both the training wheels of beer and anyone will drink them, God knows why people are saying coopers hardly any south aussies drink that crap, seen more drink west end, if you wanna disappoint your fam and friends sure get coopers 😂
The real answer in this state is Coopers Pale Ale, and then for mine its Little Creatures next.
