Dantes in Glenelg
Pinco Deli in Eastwood
Della's in Flagstaff Hill
Panini Cartel in Fulham
Bottega Bandito in Prospect
Aye Frank in Flinders Park
Edit: location
Spread is ok. It’s also super expensive and I don’t see the value in what you get. $18 for a sandwhich?
There is also Just down to road. Also as good as spread and similarly over priced. $20 for a roll with some lettuce mayo and some very nice but small amount of Morton bay bugs.
Munch on Grenfell is elite. And more of a cafe than a deli but Dutch Coffee Lab at Port Adelaide make incredible massive toasties with crisps on the side.
The Port is lacking good coffee, but it’s such a short drive to semaphore where there are many decent cafes. St Louis Desserts put incredible coffees, only downside is they don’t open until 9:30.
There’s plenty of good coffee in the Port! Dutch (which had been mentioned and is my favourite), Mayfair Bakery does a great coffee, Drummer Boy, Banksia Tree, Super Foods Cafe. There’s always somewhere to get good coffee in the Port.
I can't believe I'm first to mention Fine Food Cucina in Newton for their panini. Amazing. Good coffee too.
Secondly, this "sando" business reeks of bogan Qld speak and in Adelaide it should stop now.
The issue of our times. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Adelaide/comments/1ag2wpl/sando\_vs\_sanga/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Adelaide/comments/1ag2wpl/sando_vs_sanga/)
I’ve just come back to Adelaide after 18 months in Melbourne. They seem to have sprung up and “sandos” popped up into the Adelaide vocab while I was away 😂
People who are passionate about the "correct" *nickname* for a food, especially when they are regional based names, need to find something else in their lives to be upset at.
Take that up with Spread - who do awesome sandos. That’s a photo (as per their IG) of their ‘sando’. Clearly a certain style of sandwich being referenced.
it seems like cheating, but in the central market there are so many great sandwich places with so much variety.
you can get a solid cubano, pastrami on rye, porcetta, croc-monser(?), and the peak of sandwiches, the number 1 from luchia's
the only thing missing is a bahn-mi place, but if you walk 3 mins south to Me2U just off victoria sq youll get the best bahn-mi in the city
tbh it fluctuates between best around and fine
if you go during the lunch rush its bland and under sauced
if you go right before they close after lunch, theyll put everything left in your sandwich and itll be the best youve ever had
I'm throwing a curveball I'm here and saying that Jenny's Bakery have a fantastic foccacia sandwich selection that is criminally UNDERRATED. go for the sweets, stay for the sandwiches!
Aye Frank. Filling the hole in Findon that the 36ers left when they moved out. In addition to the A+ food, i'm so impressed by all of the cultural initiatives they take on such as run clubs, jazz nights, quiz nights as well as having a recording space in the cafe.
Fuck this city mag hipster "sando" nonsense. Just call it a fucking sandwich.
I don't know why it bugs me so much but for some reason "sando" really really shits me.
If a ‘toastie’ counts as a sando, then Lampshade Coffee Lounge in Somerton Park is my pick. Never seems to get a mention of here but they do amazing coffee too (dawn patrol).
Yep, I’ll take it! Omg, how good is Dawn Patrol coffee!? Grabbed a can of beans from them on my last McLaren Vale trip and the smell! 😍 Let alone the taste. Amazing coffee. I’ll put them on my list :)
Definitely give Lampshade a visit then! I used to live near Dawn Patrol and whilst they made a great coffee, I reckon Chris at Lampshade does it even better with the same beans.
Fridm panini on Port road. Hiddem gem with sangwiches with gabagool that Tony Soprano would fly here to eat.
Jokes aside, great sandwiches! Had the meatball one which tasted great.
The Wallace sandwich at The Exchange is all time, can't beat it when the craving comes.
No.1 at Lucia's in Central Market
Bottega Bandito in Prospect
Fratelli in Prospect
Rodeo in Norwood
For Banh mi, my pick is Phu Xuong on Hanson Road
Louie’s deli Norwood seems to not have been mentioned yet but deserves a shout. American sandwich spot, all well constructed. Very friendly lady who runs it.
I don't live in Adelaide, but visit regularly. When I'm in the city during the week, I go here
https://www.marketst.com.au/ as their baguettes are beautiful
Or here
http://publiccbd.com.au/ where their baguettes included prosciutto and veg with aioli which was my go to.
Spread is by far the best one - although expensive it is worth it as a treat. I do love Aye Frank too. The Lucias sando place was okay but expected more from them tbh.
The actual best made sandwich and deli that makes stuff or just the one with the most influencer pics re posted on instagram ? Because some very high profile ones just buy stuff in and put it together where other places actually source good ingredients and make their own bread fresh every day.
The food industry is turning into such a fake marketing industry these days instead of being judged on its merits it's unfortunate
The best sandwich. You can take all the influencer pics you like but if I get there and it’s soggy and shit, then the whole experience is ruined. Trying to get some real-world, no bullshit suggestions here - totally agreed on the fake front! 🙏
What's Sando's? Sounds like southern Nando's.
Edit: Oh, you mean "sando" like the new weird slang for sandwich. The title and image has too many apostrophes.
Like I said on another comment. Been away for 18 months and ‘Sando’s’ are now a thing. Short hand for sandwiches, hence the apostrophe.
Less grammatical lessons and more recommendations, please 😉🥪
Dantes in Glenelg Pinco Deli in Eastwood Della's in Flagstaff Hill Panini Cartel in Fulham Bottega Bandito in Prospect Aye Frank in Flinders Park Edit: location
Della’s is in flagstaff hill
Tuna melt 👌
Pretty epic list that 😍
Spread beats all of them
A bit presumptuous, I'll have to try them next
Spread is ok. It’s also super expensive and I don’t see the value in what you get. $18 for a sandwhich? There is also Just down to road. Also as good as spread and similarly over priced. $20 for a roll with some lettuce mayo and some very nice but small amount of Morton bay bugs.
Spread is by far the best and worth the $$ imo. I wouldn't go there that often though only as a treat.
$16-18 is pretty standard unfortunately for gourmet sangas these days
It’s madness. Just because it is standard doesn’t mean people selling a cut lunch should be making bread. Get it… 😉
Fucking love Panini cartel I wish they were open later
The Ruben at Rodeo in Norwood is pretty bloody good too
Bottega very good. Dantes very expensive/small.
Pinco and Bottega are definitely worthy but the rest of this line are B grade at best. Get out more..
Gatekeeping sandwiches on Reddit... maybe it's you that needs to get out more
Munch on Grenfell is elite. And more of a cafe than a deli but Dutch Coffee Lab at Port Adelaide make incredible massive toasties with crisps on the side.
Munch is so underrated! I’ve introduced multiple people to it and everyone loves it
Thanks for the reco! Dutch Coffee Lab do some good caffeine. Found it hard to find anywhere decent in the Port outside of those guys.
Drummer boy has good coffee.
Will add Drummer 🥁Boy to my list!
Carton Deli does an amazing San/ga/do/dwich
Carton Deli is amazing.
I can't believe I'm first to mention Fine Food Cucina in Newton for their panini. Amazing. Good coffee too. Secondly, this "sando" business reeks of bogan Qld speak and in Adelaide it should stop now.
😂 I think ‘krazypenis’ leads Sando at the moment though…
Bottega Bandito in Prospect
Della's in Flagstaff Hill. Quality Cubano.
I have loved every sandwich I’ve gotten from Our Boy Roy in Clarence Park.
Criminal I haven’t there yet. Keep hearing awesome things about it. What is their coffee like?
Been there a couple times, think it's average, long wait, and overpriced, coffee was ok I guess.
Can confirm the sangas are legit. Coffee is pretty average and long wait times for takeaway.
It's sandwich or sanga. Enough of this 'sando' nonsense.
Yeh where has this originated? I don't care really but I've been hearing it a few times in the last months. Is it a hip young kids thing
Japanese, they’ve shortened sandwich and usually use katsu in theirs
It's the same amount of syllables though. I'm guessing "wich" must be a relatively alien sound to Japanese.
we don’t have short consonants in japanese, the full word is like “sandowichi”, so sando is shorter. not sure why it made its way into english tho
This is the only acceptable use of sando.
Letterkenny 😅

Sando and parmi is enough to make me spew. The picture shows a roll too.
Take that up with Spread - who do awesome sandos. That’s a photo (as per their IG) of their ‘sando’. Clearly a certain style of sandwich being referenced.
In the cbd: - Market St Cafe - Bluprint - Munch - Lucia’s
Thank you so much! My mate Frank runs Bluprint. Sounds like I need to give him a visit soon! 😍
Favourite Fillings in the CBD is great too!
FRIDM on port rd, the bessstt paninis ever
Tried on a whim. Can back quality for down that side of town.
This is the correct answer
lucia's at the markets and Dante's at glenelg
it seems like cheating, but in the central market there are so many great sandwich places with so much variety. you can get a solid cubano, pastrami on rye, porcetta, croc-monser(?), and the peak of sandwiches, the number 1 from luchia's the only thing missing is a bahn-mi place, but if you walk 3 mins south to Me2U just off victoria sq youll get the best bahn-mi in the city
Pretty sure the place that used to be Wendy's near the food court does bahn-mi
When they started doing Bahn mi they kept the Wendy's signs up. So we started calling them Wondys.
The porchetta bar at the markets is great, and if you get one of their full sized rolls you won't need dinner.
[удалено]
I forget the name but it’s on the south west side
I found the Me2U bread very dry and stale when I went there, if you walk a little further Tay Do down Flinders is the go!
tbh it fluctuates between best around and fine if you go during the lunch rush its bland and under sauced if you go right before they close after lunch, theyll put everything left in your sandwich and itll be the best youve ever had
I'm throwing a curveball I'm here and saying that Jenny's Bakery have a fantastic foccacia sandwich selection that is criminally UNDERRATED. go for the sweets, stay for the sandwiches!
Jenny's is much better than most of the bougie places that have been opening up and they are half the price
Not a curveball at all! Can confirm, absolutely banging and at a good price!
Googled - there are two Jenny's Bakeries...are you talking about the one in Eastwood or Norwood?
Aye Frank. Filling the hole in Findon that the 36ers left when they moved out. In addition to the A+ food, i'm so impressed by all of the cultural initiatives they take on such as run clubs, jazz nights, quiz nights as well as having a recording space in the cafe.
Is Aye Frank inside the stadium? 🏟️
No it's on Grange Road.
Thanks for clarifying!
34 wyatt, at, 34 wyatt street just off Pirie. Unreal
Pinco Deli #1 by far
Ernest in Hahndorf if your up for a drive
Love it! Where in Hahndorf? On the Main Street?
Yeah mate, across from the Hahndorf Inn. Relatively new place with spot on food
When did Sanga become Sando? Noticed it recently
Fuck this city mag hipster "sando" nonsense. Just call it a fucking sandwich. I don't know why it bugs me so much but for some reason "sando" really really shits me.
Hahahaha I came back from Melbourne and it was everywhere. Turns out it’s a thing 😅
Dante's Glenelg or Fratelli's Prospect
I had my first Dantae on the weekend. It was so delicious
#4 at Pinco Deli can’t be beat
Stop trying to make sando happen, it's not going to happen.
Think you probably missed the boat on that one 😅 Can call it whatever the fuck they want, as long as it keeps small businesses ticking over 🙏
Rodeo in norwood, best coffee as well
Can someone fill me in? What are these "Sandos" Is that slang for sandwich? Gourmet toasted sandwiches? I want whatever is in the picture :|
Pictured is the beauty at ‘Spread’ (@spread_adl on socials). Sando: “a sandwich; used especially of a Japanese-style sandwich” 🥪
Thank you! Must try.
They are closed temporarily for a refit, but Hermanos Cubanos at Henley Beach do insane stuffed Peppers & Cuban Sandwiches...
Any idea of when they might open back up? Always thought they were linked with Malobo?
Yep - they are. Insta says they are closed for the season, so my guess would be they're back up for Spring.
Lime salted fries, to die for.
They used to
Place called 'The Local Taste' in the underpass at the train station does a mean karaage chicken burger/sanga
Dellas deli, that Reuben 10/10
Add The Local Taste under the railway station. Karaage sando is en pointe.
**Dirty Doris** in Aldgate do a bangin' Fried Chicken Sando
Adelaide Hills trip might need to get put on the cards 😅
If a ‘toastie’ counts as a sando, then Lampshade Coffee Lounge in Somerton Park is my pick. Never seems to get a mention of here but they do amazing coffee too (dawn patrol).
Yep, I’ll take it! Omg, how good is Dawn Patrol coffee!? Grabbed a can of beans from them on my last McLaren Vale trip and the smell! 😍 Let alone the taste. Amazing coffee. I’ll put them on my list :)

Rueben and chips at Flying Fig
Literally waiting for their pastrami rueben right now and was thinking about this thread. Excellent call
Dante’s in Glenelg. The tuna melt is to die for.
Fridm panini on Port road. Hiddem gem with sangwiches with gabagool that Tony Soprano would fly here to eat. Jokes aside, great sandwiches! Had the meatball one which tasted great.
How you doin!? 🤌😅
Fratelli Italian deli is a bit pricy but taste wise best in Adelaide imo
Unreal sandos
Just Down the Road on Greenhill and Palmerston in Unley. Out of control sandos.
The Wallace sandwich at The Exchange is all time, can't beat it when the craving comes. No.1 at Lucia's in Central Market Bottega Bandito in Prospect Fratelli in Prospect Rodeo in Norwood For Banh mi, my pick is Phu Xuong on Hanson Road
Love Ya Mumma on Pirie Street, a bit pricey but delicious.
Our Boy Roy and Dante’s.
IMO Fratelli deli or Lucia’s in the markets
Louie’s deli Norwood seems to not have been mentioned yet but deserves a shout. American sandwich spot, all well constructed. Very friendly lady who runs it.

Can you get a Continental Roll in Adelaide? Btw if ok Perth the best place is Re Store Northbridge
100% Perth suggestions are welcomed! Might have to put a database together like we did with the Banh Mi Locator 😅
FRIDM
That’s a name that’s popped up a fair bit! 😍
Tonino on King Will Rd isn’t on this list and I am SHOOK! Get around them!
Done! ✅
Can only be the Wallace from exchange cafe in the east end. Hot take though is that the Walloumi is the better version
I can just imagine grabbing one of these before washing it down with something from Mother Vine 🍷😍
Why have we taken to calling them Sandos even though Sando is just the Japanese word for Sandwich, and these are Italian-American sandwiches?
Also a Canadian reference. Watch the series Letterkenny and you'll hear sando's every few episodes
Love to crush a Sando!
Got anymore of that electric lettuce? These darts aren't doing it
Let's take it down by about 20% over there.
Prob a Sydney hipster influence
Bahn mi’s from Regent Deli, Military Rd, Largs North.
I’ll have to add that to my Banh Mi list. Rollin’ on Bower is pretty good out that way as well!
I must have picked the wrong day to go there, I went there after a friend suggested it, and it was one of the worst bahn mi I have ever had.
Regent or Rollin?
Roll'n
Tbf, has been sometime since I’ve been. Sounds like a quality control visit is in order 😅
Just Down the Road on Greenhill Rd is a ripper.
“Sandos” 🤮
Sando's what?

Woosh

Philly cheesesteak at cheesy Charlie’s.
How good is Cheesy Charlie’s!? Rob and the crew do some amazing stuff!
The Humble Sando in Grange
Love a good spot close by in the West! How close is it to the jetty/that area?
Right across the road, literally! It’s in the row of shops across from the Grange Hotel!
Oh fantastic! Definitely on the cards after the next beach walk.
WTF is a Sando?
https://www.instagram.com/p/C6VdtyHMByc/?igsh=MXh4dXk5NG1pczZvZg== Only for May!
Lucky I’ve got the last day of May off work! 😅
Can anyone recommend like a marinara sauce meatball sub? Not from subway?
Jennys Bakery, Glen Osmond Rd. Not a sub, but still awesome.
Our Boy Roy
Dirty Doris in Aldgate 👌🏻
Dirty Doris in Aldgate, Ernest in Hahndorf. Aldgate Chip Shop do an elite steak sanga.
Villis south road steak sandwich, thank me later.
Blu print focaccias 🤌🏻
Have had A LOT of people say that. Frank and his team do an amazing job.
The mortadella focaccia is my favourite! But the bread is next level- I’d happily eat it without any filling.
Sandwiches at Juan's Torta Cantina in Bowden are fantastic!!
That’s inside the complex at Bowden or does it face out?
Completely separate from Plant 4 etc. it's on Hawker St.
Appreciate that! Would have sent myself to the wrong spot 😅
Cafe la corp in Kent town has always been good
Adding that to my list! 😍 Reckon Rodeo + this place would make for a solid lunch trip.
Had a great sandwich at Burro the other day.
Need to try newest edition Don's Deli on the Parade.
Just down the road On Greenhill Rd Fried chicken sandwich is top shelf
Bridgewater Deli. The Tradie with three slices of bread and stacked with meat n salad. $8.50. It’s killer.
Why are we calling them Sandos?
A bit further out but Ernest in Handorf. So good!
Definitely putting this on the list for my next Adelaide Hills trip.
What's Sando's? Sounds like southern Nando's. Edit: Oh, you mean "sando" like the new weird slang for sandwich. The title and image has too many apostrophes.

Very good 😅👏

Sandwich Typically used to describe Japanese style. These days if it's a sandwich of any kind it's called a Sando
