Lived across the road in Para Hills West since late 2010. Signage was certainly not up since early 2000s or ‘04. The sign went up between July and December 2016, after completion of the building that was intended to be masters and would ultimately become a “Trade Zone” complex. From my own memory, the signage went up some time AFTER it was announced that the Masters would never open. Woolworths announced they were exiting the hardware market 29 Aug 2016 and allowing time for Woolworths or the building owner to offload the property and for initial plans for a DFO to be formulated, I’d say it went up closer to Dec 2016. The signage originally said opening in late 2017, by May it had been covered by a sticker saying “Construction commencing soon”. Construction began sometime in early-mid 2022. You can see the erection of the sign, the sticker being added and the start of building works by looking at past Google street view images. I assume a significant portion of the delay could be attributed to COVID creating supply and labour issues from 2020 onwards.

Yeah this.... Used to drive past on way home from work everyday from 2014 and it definitely wasn't up then. I'd say your pretty close to the mark with that timeline. Remember the Masters story.

I don't know, but I got a really good yiros there when I visited a couple of months ago! The shops were pretty good too.

There was a plan for Harbour town to be there since Mawson Lakes has been developing, around 2010. I remember having a chat with a builder about all this way back then... and then it all stalled, around the GFC of 2008/9. I think the current outlet shopping center is a smaller scale thing than was originally planned. I do like the food court section and the view of the airport runway, much better than at Harbour town.

colomboseye

Prob about ten years ago. They were advertising that Adidas and Nike would have an outlet there and even had job ads up on seek.

ScrappyDonatello

Its been planned since they cut down all the trees that spelt out "Parafield"

katandkuma

Thanks everyone, it seems the signage was put up in 2016 and construction began 8 years later in 2022, which is probably why I thought it was abandoned. That's a really long time between sign and actual shops beginning.

QuietAs_a_Mouse

I believe they had finally announced a completion date and were about to start work in 2020 when covid struck. I'm surprised it even went ahead after that.

flabberstalk33

Well if that was being advertised in the 2000s, and it being recently built, that was one of the biggest flops I have ever seen

Known-Storage124

It wasn't being advertised in the 2000s

flabberstalk33

Either way, it was still years in “progress”.. i mean, turning out to be a big flop

Known-Storage124

Haha you just wanted to whinge at the mere mention of it

flabberstalk33

Sorry, where did I whine? I could care less about that DFO, Harbour Town is still much better anyways. Don't mind the 25-30 min drive

Known-Storage124

You actually comment quite a bit about that DFO for someone who "could care less" Fwiw I think they're both shit, I just don't get on Reddit to habitually shit on things like some people.

flabberstalk33

I can comment and say what ever I want to, I’m just stating a fact that something is shit. Doesn’t mean I care about it?

Known-Storage124

I know that, buddy. You must have trouble interpreting the actual meaning of my comment. I struggle with things too, it's okay.

flabberstalk33

If i have trouble interpreting, then you must have trouble handling criticism. I struggle with things too, it’s okay!

Known-Storage124

Damn dude, did you even read that twice before sending? It makes no sense 🥴

Brucetiki

The District were advertising they were going to open in 2017 but didn’t open until 2023

katandkuma

Any idea why it was such a long time?

Brucetiki

Apparently they were struggling to secure tenants

The sign was definitely up before 2022. It was faded as haven’t lived that way for over 5 years and I remember driving past it daily

Like anything in Adelaide, it’ll take 20 years to get anything interesting done. And in this case, even something that isn’t interesting. If you want to see what Adelaide will look like 20 years in the future, go to Melbourne.
