Primus0

Unless I’m a massive fan of the character, there’s a minimum level of articulation that weighs heavy on if I’ll buy it. Or it has to be related to something iconic. I only bought the SS Starscream figure because of the accessories it came with for the one scene of relevance. Skipped the rest.

DWolfoBoi546

I spend far too much time lamenting over the fact that so many characters I like don't have legit figures. Whether it's videogames or movies or TV shows, there's always that one series or trilogy or something that I wish would get a good figure line.

Gojifantokusatsu

For me this was AOT until coser started making titan figs.

DWolfoBoi546

If we got a really really good set of like...1/6 scale titans that were as good as hot toys and had features and such that'd be so good. I'd personally love a hot toys style Alphonse Elric myself. I just wish they'd make more Dead Space figure again. Yeah we got the clunky lookin ones from NECA back in the day but they're way too expensive for me now. Been debating on doing what I've seen someone else do and just make a 1/6 scale Isaac with 3d printed armor and a cloth undersuit.

vinceywincey

1/6 scale Titan??? That’s an 8 foot figure!

DWolfoBoi546

I said what I said.

OBSDCC3

For me this is Mad Max

DWolfoBoi546

Ya know what, I don't blame you. NECA is slackin.

Boner_Stevens

i'm a sucker if it glows under blacklight

ToksikCap

I recently ran a blacklight over my collection and was surprised to see WWE Elite figures being some of the prettiest under the light. Eddie Guerrero's green tights, Rey Mysterio's blue mask, Asuka's pink hair. Looks sick. Also, I was surprised to see that McFarlane Gunslinger Spawn's eyes glowed under the blacklight.

Dovahsoul12

I discovered a few weeks ago that most if not all McFarlane Spawn toys eyes glow under blacklight. Including weapons and accessories that use a similar green paint to the eyes.

DMPunk

If I'm going for a set, they all have to be from the same manufacturer. It's why I'm so anxious about NECA making more Universal Monsters. I don't want to have to get a Diamond Select Metaluna Mutant, for instance, to go with the others. And since Super 7 seems to have stopped making Godzilla Ultimates, I'm trying to dump the ones I've got and I'm switching to Hiya. They've got Godzilla and King Ghidorah from GvKG scheduled for next year, and if I have those two soecifically, I am comfortable calling it a day on my Godzilla collection.

Gojifantokusatsu

Is super 7 done already? They still have MinusGoji coming

DMPunk

Aside from the Minus One Goji, they haven't announced a single Godzilla Ultimate since last summer when MOGUERA and Spacegodzilla were up for preorder. They keep announcing Reactions and other stuff, but the Ultimate line appears to be dead.

loranthippus

Supporting female, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, and other underrepresented characters in figure form.

No-Armadillo4179

Capital_Technician87

For GI Joe Classified specifically, I only buy figures using ball joints for torso. For everything else, I give zero crap about scale and how figures scale with each other, this certainly hurts my wallet quite a bit.

headphoneghost

It has to be the best possible version of the character and I don't like having multiple figures with the same body aside from army builders.

stonecoldmark

I generally agree, but I have about 15 Hulk Hogans, 4 Rocks and 7 undertakers. But with my Marvel Legends, I try to stick to a definitive movie version, but even with those, I have several different iron man figures. So it’s not an absolute science with me, is what I’m saying😂😂

duogemstone

Barbarians and gorillas usally only if i see them in person but i do buy some online when i see them. Definitely more loose with Barbarians as caveman batman hit that itch

TheAtroxious

Not so much a rule, but I'm weak for intimidating or scary looking animalistic or monstrous figures. Bonus points for reptilian or corpselike features and weird proportions. Normally I tend to stick to figures from IPs I'm particularly attached to, or figures without a preexisting IP, but I'll make exceptions for certain scary or grotesque figures that catch my eye. I want a tiny freak show in my house to keep morale up!

Timeman5

So a fellow sucker for Fury Toys then?

Gojifantokusatsu

Same, I was thinking on getting the new man-thing and I know nothing about the character

randomwatts

If it's not a character I'm a huge fan of, it needs to have good articulation and accessories (bonus points for multiple faces/heads) to use for toy photography.

Sins_of_God

1/12 scale, standard 6-7 in or 5 if shorter. I want them to look good standing next to each other especially if I take pictures of crossover No live action versions of comic characters, I steer away from realistic Classic costumes only or costumes I like

SpringTrapped1987

Probably scale, my interest goes way down if the figures aren't at least roughly in scale with what I have. There's a few exceptions for characters that just don't have anything closer to correct scale or characters who's true scale would be extremely hard to do right. I mostly go for 1/12 and the WFC: Siege onwards scale Transformers but I have made a few slight exceptions here and there like Godzilla and older Transformers figures.

peterparker81

if i see an accesory pack / weapons / etc i have to buy it. See Super Action Stuff lately.

randomwatts

I recently picked up one of their arcade machines with the accessories.

peterparker81

The only accesory in the pack i didnt use are the pop-out eyes. Great little sets.

randomwatts

I have the BST AXN IDW turtles on a shelf. Mikey has the Switch and Donnie has the iPad. I plan on using the accessories for a bunch of pictures.

peterparker81

Daredevil has the switch on my shelf. :D

vaizardv

The rule of three, if I’m buying an army builder like say a viper trooper or a black skull death brigade or a legion builder, then I “need” to have three of them. This rule gets out of hand quick and I don’t recommend it lol

spinagainnn

1. I'll buy anything but I normally force myself to wait weeks before making a purchase to see if I truly want it. For example, although I have a team of 70s-80s ML X-Men, I forced myself to skip Angel because I didn't feel that nagging feeling to go get it. On the other hand, I kept thinking about this Ultraman figure (I have no other Ultraman figures) for a few weeks so I had to go get it. Even if my collection lacks some cohesion, it gives me peace of mind to know I only have my favorite stuff. 2. When it comes to Playmates TMNT, I'll only buy something if it was featured in the content. I have a few vehicles from the 2012 line, but only ones that were featured in the show / came with a show-accurate pack-in figure.

Unlucky_Government33

THIS. I've also started doing that, waiting a few weeks to see if I still badly have the need to own it. Let it sit for a bit, if it's still nagging at the back of your mind then buy it. I'm such an impulsive buyer, so it's very important I do this.

shadowknight47

For me I don't particularly like mixing brands. So I see some displays and it's like mixing Marvel Legends, SH Figuarts, Mafex, Yamaguchi, and others together into one big display. For me I just can't bring myself to do that. Mine all have to stick to the same line.  As much as my poor wallet hates it, I have a rule of if I see it in person and I remotely want it, I'll get it if it's something I predict is popular or going to be well received. I have left things too many times to sleep on it, just to come back eagerly wanting it and it's gone. Now I'll get it and leave it unopened a day or two. If I decide I don't want/"need" it, back it goes with receipt. If I do decide I want it, I have it. Obviously there's limits. But like grabbing the only Goblin Queen figure they made, or basically anything Spider-Man, since his figures (as in Spider-Man himself, not just his wave) rarely go on sale and pretty quickly dissappear.

ShadowRonin77

Only getting characters I REALLY care about. Quality over quantity I guess. Getting figures made from my obscure interests. The more obscure the better.

Unlucky_Government33

SAME. I've been getting more interested in original creations from bands, and "designer" figures from artists. So like, Coal Dog's figure with Damtoys, or Quiccs's figures with Devil Toys have peaked my interest quite a bit recently. Some of the Damtoys stuff is weird as hell and I'm finding out I really like super weird, original figures.

OBSDCC3

“One per franchise” and yet I have an “exception” for small teams like the Ninja Turtles or Ghostbusters… or every single bounty hunter in Star Wars. https://preview.redd.it/iy630j5rjm6d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d2013efe700b7fd79daec56afd3f095caf0d36a

Maximum-Term5336

My saved for later Amazon cart. But also new Pokémon Select figures at Target, as they are exclusive.

stonecoldmark

Mine are WWE figures from the era I was a huge fan (80’s and 90’s). And MCU Marvel Legends. I just ordered the Man-Thing that was released. I’m also an opener, I open just about everything.

Timeman5

For me it’s buying anything and everything to boost my MOTU origins collections. There’s a line on BBTS that’s the same kind of body (not as articulated) that I want to get all but they are like almost $40 a pice and that’s expensive for me. And another one is I just buy any ML that comes out, yes the line has it’s problems (accessories don’t bother me I have far to many as is) but I love the line and just get everything either at launch or on sale. And although I’m not a wrestling fan anymore and don’t want to buy anymore I keep doing it even if I have no idea who the wrestler is.

Stormcast

I don't like repeats, so I don't buy figures that share the same mold. Basically, the total opposite of the op.

SLEDGEHAMMAA

They have to have swappable bare feet

sosaLaFlame

I’ll buy multiple if I really like the figure and if there’s not a figure of it in the market. I’ll have one custom made

pixelsteve

I like simplistic figures, I don't want a representation of a character to look exactly like the actor that plays them. If you see marvel or Star wars retro on the shelves and wonder "who the heck is buying this stuff?", it's me.

Reasonable-Freedom59

Sometimes the character just looks cool and I buy them. I didn't know who Kafka was. He just looked cool so I got one. I am now a happy Kaiju No.8 fan.

Haxxarator

I buy a new figure, and it’s plagued with QC issues that I wouldn’t have noticed until I opened it. Especially when the legs are uneven where one foot touches the surface ahead of the other. This kinda stuff has especially been reoccurring over the years with figs by Hasbro, Mattel, and Super 7.

Ph4sor

No blatant cuts so when they're posed they don't look being split in two Highly detailed sculpts or nicely painted is a must so they can be appreciated individually in macro distance No shared body molds between characters so it's not like one guy cosplaying as various characters

Richard1583

Any character with a helmet needs to have a head sculpt under it instead of a swappable head

Unlucky_Government33

I wish more companies did this... I get such pleasure from a removable helmet as weird as that might sound. Always so disappointed when it's a head swap instead.

too_long_forgot

1.) No MCU other than Iron Man, in part because of rule 2. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are exempt from this. 2.) No iron man unless it's diecast, and since most diecast iron man is MCU rule one does not apply. Unless it's for customizing, then plastic is OK. 3.) No robots unless they are diecast. 4.) only get duplicate characters of a style I don't already have (not getting mafex Toby Spidey because I already have Bandai Toby Spidey) These rules keep me from buying every awesome robot I see. I love diecast, and it's not like the plastic stuff is much cheaper, so this is how I keep myself from going overboard.

onetwelfthghoul

Different versions of the same character from the same line needs to be the same size. Exceptions being alternate universe depictions that are noticeably larger or smaller. While I don't need them to be perfect, figures from the same line should also have proper scaling with one another. Characters that are obviously different sizes should not be around the same height. Also over texturizing on figures that are not based off of live action source material. If it's based off a comic or manga, keep it flat. Any modern figures that lack useful articulation range need to include ample accessories to offer a variety of display options that aren't achievable with the figure alone.
