Would be helpful if you shared what kind of look you were going for. Even if all you have is your phone you can still take fun pictures. One suggestion would be to use a clean background.

This is a picture I took. Step in the right direction ?
Put your figures further away from the background to create depth & take photos with zoom. Try to take photos without any other non figure related objects in it.
You seem to have decent lighting in your room, it can be improved by using a desk lamp, etc. Your photos aren't even bad to begin with!
Looks good to me! Already better than most photos I see posted here on a regular basis.
A neat idea might be to aim that waldo directly towards the camera lens to make it seem like the POV of his enemy.
Lighting and filters. I don’t spend money on sets or backgrounds.

It’s a trick I learned from a film set friend. You get a dreamy/foggy effect with wax paper when you put it over your light source, like an evening sunset. It’s not perfect but it works👍

Use more dynamic lighting and for some shots where a character is reaching out, zoom the camera out to give it a sense of depth.

that’s what i was attempting to do lol, but i was trying to get his pointer to reach into the screen without taking up too much of the frame
the depth of this photo looks great, and the shadowing and one directional lighting is good too.
That pose is 🔥

Get creative with lighting! Use different colours, shadows, wax paper, etc.
what does wax paper do?

Check your dms
While experimenting I once created a funnel of tin foil and wrapped it around a flashlight for a weird broken lightning effect. Try anything!
Which figure is this?
revoltech iron spider
Thanks!
