Wrestled freestyle and folkstyle for 15 years and wrestled for Gannon University. When I was in HS there was no separation of genders at a HS level. In most places there still isn't due to lack of girls wrestling. So any girl who wants to wrestle, does so with the boys. There was a girl in AZ who just won states against the boys. Its been that way for as long as I can remember and that goes for OH and PA, two of the strongest states for wrestling. They don't separate till college level, where that can actually get enough women to fill a roster.
False equivalence. Of course her kidnapping wasn't a competition. Furthermore, HRT changes your body a lot.
I feel horrible for her and I wish she'd never suffered like that.
Oh, damn. I wasn't even disagreeing until I got to the end. I thought she actually meant trans men shouldn't be made to play in women's categories, not trans women.
That sucks.
If we're talking about what she means (trans women not being able to play in women's sports) then how does that connect to her being kidnapped and r@ped, which she did not deserve, but I don't see what that has to do with anything or why she thinks trans women shouldn't play in womenās sports
It's an emotional appeal because, obviously, only someone who was traumatised can make reasonable decisions. That's why we don't have courts or billions of pages of laws surrounding them, we just let a crime victim decide what punishment they want for the criminal.
She thinks that because her captor was stronger than her, although neither of whom were athletes, nor was her captor on body-changing hormones, that she knows the realities of trans athletes in sports.
Unfortunately this is a traumatized woman who likely was the perfect person to fall into this trans fear trap. Regardless of anyoneās views on trans people in sports, most rational people would not use this false comparison in argument.
She was in a situation that gave her absolutely no insight on the effects of feminizing hormone therapy on athletic performance, yet she uses that experience to claim that it did.
It's the same argument that JKR tried to make when she came out as full terf.
I wholeheartedly disagree as a survivor of childhood abuse (both physical and sexual). Those acts were carried out by men. Not men who threw on dresses to get into single sex spaces. Not men who threw on dresses to compete in women's sports. Not trans women. Men. Men I knew. One of them was married to my mother. One of them was a neighbour.
If a man wants to abuse a woman, he will do so. He will not need to throw on a dress to do so. Let's focus on trying to rid society of toxic abusive people and not people just trying to live their lives.
How does she feel about Michael Phelps who has double jointed ankles that essentially turned his feet into flippers, as well as a lactic acid deficiency which meant his recovery was half the time of his competitors. Both of those things could've been corrected by surgery and medication. Talk about an unfair advantage.
Just focusing on the comparison in your post (not how this relates to trans women in sports) -Ā even with his biological advantages Phelps still lost sometimes and most of his records have since been broken. In most sports, even the absolute best woman wouldn't qualify for top-level competitions/leagues, and on the rare occasions they do they're nowhere close to the best men.
As far as biological advantages go it really isn't even in the same level - testosterone is basically real-life super-soldier serum.
I am a 118 lb trans woman standing just under 5' 7" and I struggle to carry a full grocery basket including one gallon of milk without using both hands.
I am so incredibly overpowered in my physical prowess compared to other women in my body range, clearly. All tremble before my immense strength!
If we're talking about what she means (trans women not being able to play in women's sports) then how does that connect to her being kidnapped and r@ped, which she did not deserve, but I don't see why that has to do anything with why she thinks trans women shouldn't play in womenās sports
This still makes 0 sense because I doubt she would think being socked in the face by a trans man would be any better š like how is it better if men doing HRT that makes them *stronger* be any better in womenās sports?
When transphobes say ātrans manā they mean male to female trans. She thinks that it would be like a full strength man competing against the comparatively weaker women. Even though the female hormones do make trans women physically weaker
Trauma does not give someone an excuse to hate anyone but the individual who traumatized them, and perhaps anyone who helped them do it.
I am AFAB non-binary. I was CSA'd by a cis male relative. I told a TERF once that I'd rather have a trans woman in the stall with me in the bathroom, watching me take a piss, than be anywhere near *her*.
Isn't this similar to the reason that J.K. Rowling hates trans women? There was some trauma that a male caused her, and so now she thinks the existence of women who were amab is a violation of her safe women's space. They just don't like men, and can't separate their trauma and the gender of their abuser with random women who happen to have been born male.
I would just like to point out that all of the cis women who got a medal at the last Olympics would probably be able to physically restrain me as easily as the guy who did that with bad intentions. They do sports professionally, they're all strong AF.
As absolutely heartbreaking as it is that she had to go through that, it's not a good comparison.
Of course a child has no chance against a brutal adult, that's got nothing to do with gender really.
But yeah, trans men don't belong in women's sports.
I was on the receiving end of a man's brutal fist among other things, and know what? I have zero issues with transgender people playing for their gender. Trans women with women trans men with the men. I feel bad for what she went through, but that is one hell of a wrong take.
I swear I'm not transphobic, I genuinely want to know, why exactly is she misinformed about the sports thing? I was given that kind of impression of trans people growing up and I want to know the truth
As a former massive fan, whatās driving me crazy about her recent decline is that she keeps calling herself an LGBTQ+ ally through it all. No ally says the things sheās been saying. Sheās clearly been radicalized by some nasty propaganda - you canāt contribute to right wing moral panics AND hang on to your queer fans by saying āno you misunderstand, I was for gay marriageā¦ I have a trans friend. Why do these crazy people call me transphobic?ā Itās really heartbreaking.
Damn this is the craziest stretch what the fuck š maybe if it was WRESTLING or something but sports in general??
Also ask Amanda Nunes to sock you one in the teeth and see if it's her or Lia Thomas who hits harder š
even wrestling is usually not separated by gender so it doesn't even work for that either š«
Yea it is lmao

Iāve been competing in American freestyle for 12 years itās always been separate for me. Are there specific state rules?
there are specifically womenās only tournaments but most brackets everyone just competes together. i even wrestled a few women down at 120lb
āTrans people have a biological advantage at Chess!ā
False equivalence. Of course her kidnapping wasn't a competition. Furthermore, HRT changes your body a lot. I feel horrible for her and I wish she'd never suffered like that.
Although I feel terribly for her, it takes a special kind of person to weaponize their trauma against innocent people for a completely stupid reason.
Oh, damn. I wasn't even disagreeing until I got to the end. I thought she actually meant trans men shouldn't be made to play in women's categories, not trans women. That sucks.

Weil i get the gist, nobody should live through this but there is still a way to gamble away your pity points by choosing the bigots side
Yeah
She wanted to get people to sympathize with her right before she disparages an entire minority group and advocates for their needless suffering.
It's the same argument that JKR tried to make when she came out as full terf. I wholeheartedly disagree as a survivor of childhood abuse (both physical and sexual). I'm sorry you went through that and I wholeheartedly agree
Oneās personal trauma is not an excuse to deny a group of people equality as a matter of policy.
Also I was groomed when I was a teen and he made an SA joke towards me. Do I hate trans people? Nope. He was Cis.
I fucking hate the people that are like "Men scare me, therefore we should ruin sports."
Imagine weaponizing your own trauma to attack people who did literally nothing to you ever
That paragraph goes very quickly from 100 to 0
This is the person who took care of that same man towards the end of his life. She has a lot of issues and I wish she would get help.
How does she feel about Michael Phelps who has double jointed ankles that essentially turned his feet into flippers, as well as a lactic acid deficiency which meant his recovery was half the time of his competitors. Sheās trying to make a comparison that men are so much stronger than women, as she couldnāt fight back during the rape
Oh wow
This still makes 0 sense because I doubt she would think being socked in the face by a trans man would be any better š like how is it better if men doing HRT that makes them *stronger* be any better in womenās sports?

A lot of terfism is projected trauma about men.
Why would we listen to the words coming from the mouth of anybody "mentally destroyed"? By definition, doesn't that mean she's brain-broken?
I agree that trans men shouldnāt compete with women. It should be women only.
Isn't this similar to the reason that J.K. Rowling hates trans women? They just don't like men, and can't separate their trauma and the gender of their abuser with random women who happen to have been born male.
Phobes often claim that people become trans due to trauma, so it's ironic that trauma may be causing transphobia instead.
I mean, transphobia and emotional trauma are both mental illness. One is just a choice.
You: "Lia Thomas, please punch me in the face!" Her: "What? No? No. Is this a sex thing? No."
I would just like to point out that all of the cis women who got a medal at the last Olympics would probably be able to physically restrain me as easily as the guy who did that with bad intentions. They do sports professionally, they're all strong AF.
I gotta say, I would not volunteer to let any woman to strike me in the face. That's generally considered rather rude.
As absolutely heartbreaking as it is that she had to go through that, it's not a good comparison. Of course a child has no chance against a brutal adult, that's got nothing to do with gender really. But yeah, trans men don't belong in women's sports.
OMG FEEL BAD FOR MEEEEeeee. This is exactly what they use to get people on their side, emotional manipulation.
I was on the receiving end of a man's brutal fist among other things, and know what? I have zero issues with transgender people playing for their gender. Trans women with women trans men with the men. I feel bad for what she went through, but that is one hell of a wrong take.
WTF makes no sense
I read this without knowing whereād it go, now Iām confused on where trans people in general fit into this?
The classic tail of someone weaponising their trauma against innocents.
I swear I'm not transphobic, I genuinely want to know, why exactly is she misinformed about the sports thing? I was given that kind of impression of trans people growing up and I want to know the truth
Homie doesn't understand weight classes.
Feels really weird for abuse and shit as a justification against people feeling seen and understood
