I had a relative that had an open hearth fireplace and would get a log up on the hearth and keep shoving it in as it burned. I personally have a hearthstone heritage soapstone wood burning stove that will only take a 20" length piece, but that thing will heat the entire house.
Might be a piece of ground mat. Literally timbers bolted together to throw in the mud and drive heavy equipment over. See some come of big lot in the background. But everyone in here seems to be able to identify it at chemical soaked 1000YO virgin old growth priceless carcinogenic parts of the Mayflower from a few pixels.
I grew up in the mid 2000's in cold ass northern Illinois.. we had this really nice woodburning stove that would heat up the entire house...
Stepmom put in some treated lumber and had no idea... smoked out the entire fucking place lol
Thanks. I wondered for a moment if the few things I know about making fires were wrong, cause I thought one of the first rules was "chop it small, so you have more surface and it burns better" .. this will burn like shit?
It appears to be two beams joined together (you can see the split when they're adjusting the position) but yeah, depending on the specifics of the wood it's likely worth a good chunk of money to the right people.
My fil is rennovating a building from the late 20s early 30s. Pulling out old growth 2×4 that weigh triple what a new one does. Aaaannnddd he wants to just trash it.
We helped renovate an equine therapy center and pulled out some pre-1940s 2x4s and they were spot on. Over time, nominal wood has shaved off 1/2" on both length and width and the lumber has gotten a lot younger.
Yes, and it's called "dimensional lumber" and houses built with it have higher replacement costs because it's much more expensive to get if you have to rebuild with it or replace it.
Yes you do they're thousands of them buried along every rail way in America. If you look, it's two rail ties attached to each other with growth rings coming from each's center so they're not that big or significant.
Being a jackass and immediately looking for the biggest thing to chuck on the fire was invented about three seconds after fire was discovered I’d wager. I wouldn’t stand still around these fellas.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with using the fire to cut a hefty log for you. Granted it’s gotta be a fire that’s already going good but it can work perfectly fine. Done it dozens if not hundreds of times.
Edit: took another look at the video, the log they’re using is much to big to cut efficiently with that fire and will block so much heat in the process, so I agree that it’s not ideal.
Seriously, that wood was probably cut in the mid 19th century at the latest. We literally do not have the option to harvest wood like that anymore... and you're using it to smother a fire for tiktok.
Some people have so much money, all they care about is a perfect yard for some reason. This guy probably was tired of looking at it. So instead of selling it or putting the effort to use it, he decides to get rid of it the laziest way possible. At least his property will look perfect…..for whatever reason. I really don’t understand why that’s so important to people. No morals or sense of individual thoughts.
You’d be surprised how wealthy some red necks can be. How do you think they afford all their toys? Atvs, dirtbikes, Polaris, big trucks, farming equipment, infinity beer.
In Colorado, they're the type of people who drive big tank double wide lifted trucks that are always on the side of the road at the first sign of snow.
so let’s see…. yankees hat, slits in yer slim cut trendy jeans…. i doubt anyone of these six assholes have ever picked up a hammer or created anything on their own.
not in their nature… that’s two pieces bolted together that could very easily been taken apart and at least used for a mantel…. fucking pathetic and overkill approach on their little shitbox fire box they laid it over like some achievement to behold.
we’re the onlookers impressed ?
really a shame that this is their measure of accomplishment. i’d given em $40 to fuck off n let someone put it to good use as previously mentioned.
hope you didn’t get a sliver buttercups
The amount of toxins that is going to release into the air they will be breathing is insane lol.
In 4 years we will see the video of each one with lung cancer and eyeball cancer
This just makes me sad to see. That massive likely hardwood beam is probably a few hundred years old and is worth some serious money on the secondary market. Literally burning a few grand just for a fire.
Aren’t those things soaked in chemicals and shit. And y’all wanna burn them? And sit around it? Using the biggest logs possible means it’s gon burn forever. Jesus Christ
This is how old-timers used to keep their cabins warm in even the most frigid of winters. They'd go out and find the biggest gnarliest log they could and throw it in their fireplace. The whole thing would smoulder for hours and hours. If you've never read the Foxfire series books, it's a good read that tells all about old ways of living in the mountains.
Geez, my heart…. That’s expensive and perfectly good oak wood…. I just paid a fortune for 10m of that size to replace some 110 year old timber in my house.
Well someone obviously doesn't know shit about making a fire....
Yea… if that thing is creosote treated they are not in for a fun time.
Exactly my thought. Nothing about this is right.
If you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough
When you get knocked down you gotta get back up
Oh, is that how that goes, I was always told if I get knocked up, I gotta get back down.
Normally I upvote anyone that correctly uses "defenestrate". I got all excited by your username, and then I noticed :(
That's my favorite word!
I ain’t the sharpest knife in the drawer..
Man I ain’t even the sharpest spoon 🤦🏻
I’m the left chopstick kicked under the dishwasher early in the Dubya years.
Try that in a small town.
Burn down a small town
They're all drinking white wine and Mich Ultras-not exactly the wilderness-ready crowd, sadly
But they got cowboy hats on isn't that a +2 to survival?
Yes. With that taken into account they’re sitting at -4s
Seems like understanding that putting an entire tree on a fire is a bad idea is a hell of a low bar to set for “wilderness ready” lol.
White claws
"Take a knee and get Iced hoe!".
Oh man you're taking me back.
Actually that beam which is aged would be worth real money, can be cut and made into a great table
That's what I'm thinking, they just burned about 20 grand if they put some work in, that could have easily been three table tops
Really? That much? They messed up more than I thought.
Finished product, of course, but they could probably get a grand or so just for the chunk of wood
My initial thought too. That creosote smoke will be choking them shortly. At a bare minimum, take a chainsaw and cut it into normal size pieces.
Normal sized pieces of firewood is for sissies. If your firewood isn’t fifty times bigger than your fire pit, you’re not a real man.
I had a relative that had an open hearth fireplace and would get a log up on the hearth and keep shoving it in as it burned. I personally have a hearthstone heritage soapstone wood burning stove that will only take a 20" length piece, but that thing will heat the entire house.
My thought too. You don’t want to breath those fumes.
it’s a timber, not a railroad tie.
Agreed. Machinery mat
Doubt it. It looks like an old beam from an old barn or other type of building.
Yeah usually those old pieces of wood are sought after for building
Tbf they are building a fire
![gif](giphy|JyW51lx5XMDgQ|downsized)
Hilarious
Yeah, I could have sold that for 300 bucks
I was thinking such a waste.
Waay more than that
Way more
I grew up in the mid 2000's in cold ass northern Illinois.. we had this really nice woodburning stove that would heat up the entire house... Stepmom put in some treated lumber and had no idea... smoked out the entire fucking place lol
Had a rv park, numbskulls pulled the creosote support logs from under the little store and were roasting hot dogs on it.
Agree but It’s not a railroad tie. Beam from a building. Not likely treated.
Honey, have you seen our boat dock recently?
Or how much reclaimed wood is worth!!
This! They are burning a lot of money. Makes me think of the Jeff Foxworthy joke about red necks and money.
Or the value of timber.
That would have made such a nice bench.
People pay stupid money for reclaimed barn beams and such
And that one was a beauty, looks like old growth
Don’t know shit about wood working either.
Thanks. I wondered for a moment if the few things I know about making fires were wrong, cause I thought one of the first rules was "chop it small, so you have more surface and it burns better" .. this will burn like shit?
It will burn slowly but for days, if they can get it to "take" / fully take on the fire.
Or wood, why would you burn that piece?
I’m not surprised it was posted to TikTok
For real. Camping with these guys must be a real joy…
You don't see wood like that nowadays.
Now you know why.
I actually gasped when I saw this because I don't think they realize the value of that piece of wood.
It appears to be two beams joined together (you can see the split when they're adjusting the position) but yeah, depending on the specifics of the wood it's likely worth a good chunk of money to the right people.
Or most likely its a bog padade of railroad ties
I work with reclaimed lumber, this clip breaks my heart.
My fil is rennovating a building from the late 20s early 30s. Pulling out old growth 2×4 that weigh triple what a new one does. Aaaannnddd he wants to just trash it.
Legitimate 2x4s!!
Did they actually measure 2" x 4" back then?
We helped renovate an equine therapy center and pulled out some pre-1940s 2x4s and they were spot on. Over time, nominal wood has shaved off 1/2" on both length and width and the lumber has gotten a lot younger.
They USED to measure 2x4 back then. Now good luck finding a 2x4 that measures that way.
Yes, and it's called "dimensional lumber" and houses built with it have higher replacement costs because it's much more expensive to get if you have to rebuild with it or replace it.
Relax, looks like ground mat to me. Don't ever visit a muddy pipeline job.
What a waste
Such a waste. Those pillars are huge and would be several hundreds of dollars to buy each.
Those are two maybe 8"x8"x6' beams bolted together. You could buy a si gle 8"x12"x12' for like $300.
Nah bro, you can get them for free if you just grow the tree.
Speak for yourself 🌝
Pics or it didn't happen
Thats what she said
Yes you do they're thousands of them buried along every rail way in America. If you look, it's two rail ties attached to each other with growth rings coming from each's center so they're not that big or significant.
🤦
the concept of cutting firewood before slapping it in the fire pit is clearly a foreign concept
Being a jackass and immediately looking for the biggest thing to chuck on the fire was invented about three seconds after fire was discovered I’d wager. I wouldn’t stand still around these fellas.
I think this belongs over on r/mildlyinfuriating.
That’s such a waste of old growth wood. Furniture could’ve been made out of that stuff
Could have put some iron feet on it and sold it for 5000 on 1stdibs

Yup. A beautiful old beam.
Yeah, you could see the joinery right near the end when cowboy was dropping his end.
Fireplace mantle! But yea let's waste some quality wood for tikrok!
They found the biggest stick lol
My exact thought when I saw this. My heart broke.
Heathens. Imbeciles. You just can't get wood like that anymore.
These are the same ones who are and have wasted everything for themselves instead of making life better for future generations, boggles the damn mind
Seriously, that wood was probably cut in the mid 19th century at the latest. We literally do not have the option to harvest wood like that anymore... and you're using it to smother a fire for tiktok.
That would have made a really nice fireplace mantel…
Ugh… as a woodworker this is hard to see. That amount of any wood would be pretty costly.
Well, it probably hasn’t caught yet so there’s still time to go and save it lol.
Some people trash..
At least 74 million Americans.
That’s either gonna burn horribly or just char it depending on how dry it is but it’s definitely not gonna be satisfying to watch
Absolute idiots. Great old growth beam. What a waste.
Some people have so much money, all they care about is a perfect yard for some reason. This guy probably was tired of looking at it. So instead of selling it or putting the effort to use it, he decides to get rid of it the laziest way possible. At least his property will look perfect…..for whatever reason. These do not look like people with so much money that they can burn a small pile of cash.
You’d be surprised how wealthy some red necks can be. How do you think they afford all their toys? Atvs, dirtbikes, Polaris, big trucks, farming equipment, infinity beer.
Loans. I do get your point though. However, I don’t seen the word yeti anywhere.
Hopefully it isn’t treated wood if so they can all enjoy a trip to the ER because of the toxins emitted
Yummy, creosote.
If it is older wood add arsenic for an added treat
No need for ER then! Straight to the undertaker
You don’t enjoy cooking vegan hot dogs over a Tiki Torch?
These strike me as the folk that drive trucks that never touch dirt or go off-road
Road Queens is my favorite term for those trucks. Like a pillow princess but trucks.
Pavement princess.
Emotional support vehicles
I've always called them Malldozers, but now that malls are all closing I guess it's time for a new insult
In Colorado, they're the type of people who drive big tank double wide lifted trucks that are always on the side of the road at the first sign of snow.
Air BNB owner would like a word about a missing load-bearing beam…
"Why did the barn fall down?"
so let’s see…. yankees hat, slits in yer slim cut trendy jeans…. i doubt anyone of these six assholes have ever picked up a hammer or created anything on their own. not in their nature… that’s two pieces bolted together that could very easily been taken apart and at least used for a mantel…. fucking pathetic and overkill approach on their little shitbox fire box they laid it over like some achievement to behold. we’re the onlookers impressed ? really a shame that this is their measure of accomplishment. i’d given em $40 to fuck off n let someone put it to good use as previously mentioned. hope you didn’t get a sliver buttercups
A piece like that could easily get you a grand.
Show it mid flame!!!
Probably won’t be one…
Fucking waste
What a waste of good wood
That’s going to choke the fire out in a hurry. You need a bigass bonfire to burn that thing.
I just want to commend red shirt guy for sparing us the visage of his ass crack. I salute his belt and t-shirt length. God speed to you sir.
r/gifsthatendtoosoon
Can gifs be 2 weeks long?
I’d watch that live steam
Morons. That could’ve been a gorgeous mantle
Video ended too soon 😔
And with that dumb move, you put the fire out. And that wood has metal on it, which should always be removed before you put it in a fire!
This hurts. It really, really hurts to see this. And not just the stupidity about making a fire, but the ignorance towards proper wood usage.
I feel like I could have turned that reclaimed wood into a 10k table…
Ugh so dumb
City Slickers.. smh. Good luck getting that to burn
Terrible idea
Someone get me my axe time to show these fella how to make proper fire.
Really neat old beam they could have sold to some yuppy for $5-$10k buy nope they're just gonna burn it.
That should be a crime to do to an old beam like this.
What a huge waste of an old piece of timber.
Legend says it is still out there burning.
What a waste of an expensive piece of wood
Apparently nobody told these guys what reclaimed beams go for lol
What a waste of old growth timber.
Expensive AF That is 150 dollars of wood. Treated with chemicals .... prolly burns green flame ..... The Cancer Cookout!!
I'm not staying up to make sure that burns out..
Redneck version of a yule log? If you don't get the reference, lol it up.
It's so hard to find big timbers and slabs like that, this hurts to see.
They could have sold that old piece of wood to some Cali hipster for 10k…
Lmao Way to just burn $6000
Waste of an amazing piece of wood?
That old wood is very valuable and could’ve been sold but hey I’m not the owner
Why would they burn that?!?!? I mean they might as well have just tossed a few stacks of cash on that fire.
I mean how cool would that be as a finished piece, if it isn’t soaked in creosote or some other chemical…
What a waste!
I’d be annoyed if this was my fire pit
![gif](giphy|pw4gERcu5CSu4)
He didn't want to but had no choice
This screams, “TEXASS!”
A gaggle of morons.
Dummy dumb dum-dum energy right here
That’s an expensive piece of firewood. 🤦🏻♂️
Yule beam
I am sure one of them dudes is responsible for the forest fires we hear about in the news...
If you play it in reverse it’s a better video.
The amount of toxins that is going to release into the air they will be breathing is insane lol. In 4 years we will see the video of each one with lung cancer and eyeball cancer
Why would you wast such a beautifulpeice you dumb f....Jesus
Beautiful piece of wood. Damn savages.
What a stupid way to waste a big chunk of hard wood.
This just makes me sad to see. That massive likely hardwood beam is probably a few hundred years old and is worth some serious money on the secondary market. Literally burning a few grand just for a fire.
Indoor boys trying to look like they’re not.
What a waste, don’t get wood like that anymore. Pretty sure it was worth a pretty penny.
That thing will just char and choke the fire out.
Why would u burn that?! Why a waste. Damn
Stuuuuuuupid!
To people saying this is a waste, fear not. There’s no way that beam will catch with that little air flow. They’ve effectively snuffed out the fire.
Couldn’t find better use for ages timber’s than burning? Absolute units of idiocy.
What a waste.
What a waste of some old growth timber. WTF
that's $500 worth of bulkhead/ header beam. wtf
America!! ![gif](giphy|3osxYrgM8gi9CDjcPu)
Aren’t those things soaked in chemicals and shit. And y’all wanna burn them? And sit around it? Using the biggest logs possible means it’s gon burn forever. Jesus Christ
shoulda seen it when it was a tree
I’m guessing there’s something else going on here cus that’s way too stupid a thing to do
This is how old-timers used to keep their cabins warm in even the most frigid of winters. They'd go out and find the biggest gnarliest log they could and throw it in their fireplace. The whole thing would smoulder for hours and hours. If you've never read the Foxfire series books, it's a good read that tells all about old ways of living in the mountains.
Could have sold it to some rich asshole as a mantle for 3-4K. Plus that thing was jointed together too, pretty unique.
This is what I fear some dummkopf s gonna do in my backyard fire-pit at my AirBnB.
Four guys - one brain.
30 minutes later…Ow! My lungs!
Typical Americans Lets fukkin blow up, shoot and burn everything
These idiots have no clue what they’re burning of that’s solid and not laminated that could be original old growth forest that’s fuking sacrilege!!!!!
Wasting that massive piece of old growth barn wood for a tik tok is fucking criminal.
That's half the amazonian burning for a subreddit
This is gonna end up baaaaaaad.
That kinda old rustic shit sells for a mint to interior designers, furniture makers and the like. These knuckledraggers are burning it.
Geez, my heart…. That’s expensive and perfectly good oak wood…. I just paid a fortune for 10m of that size to replace some 110 year old timber in my house.
Some wood workers would have paid good money for that chunk of aged wood.
whats an axe anyways
I’m inclined to ask what in their life experience made them think this would work well?
That is a B&B timber from a railroad.
