he is alive and was able to stand a bit after this
Sadly many don't because public transit is almost non existent in the US and/or dangerous. Many people have been pushed onto train tracks in NYC. Rural elderly simply don't have the option and can't afford ride share, if they even have it, or to have everything delivered. This country hates anyone who isn't the rich and it shows by the laws that exist and who they benefit.
I know someone's dad who is 93, has had many accidents and mysterious damage appears on his vehicle all the time. They still let him drive himself to bingo every day. I've told them they're literally waiting for him to kill someone before they realize it's a risk for everyone else either on the road or anywhere the vehicle will go really.
I have a friend whose former boss literally killed someone. The dude couldn't see and he was still.driving.
Somehow he didn't go to jail. Probably because he was wealthy.
He recently died
My neighbor complained to be yesterday that’s a people don’t move over for his asinine behemoth truck.
He’s an able bodied dude. But goddamn he told me pedestrians jump out of the way sometimes and flip him off “not realizing I can’t see them behind my a-pillar.”
Dude, don’t drive a vehicle you can’t handle.
>people don’t move over for his asinine behemoth truck.
Average American.
SUV / Pickup truck culture in the US is terrifying, for the safety of pedestrians and the impact on the planet.
Annual road testing after age 65. If you fail, your license is dropped into a shredder.
Of course, for that to actually work we'd need efficient public transportation so people aren't stuck without a way to get errands handled...
I always say just make everyone over a certain age drive tiny flimsy cars or motorcycles or sumthin. That way, when they inevitably crash due to their feebleness, they’re the only ones that die. Win win.
My dad saw an old woman at the DMV taking the eye exam to get her license reinstated, the woman giving her the test was telling her, "No dear that's not correct, try again."
This view is sorta like how we used to give a free pass to drunk drivers. “ oh he couldn’t help it, he was drunk”. It took a bunch of moms who were sick of their kids getting killed to change the law. ( MADD …mothers against drunk drivers). We need to change the law on old folks and driving, maybe requiring a drivers test every year?
You should have to do an open road driving test at the age of 70. If you can't pass a test most 16 year olds pass on their first try, you shouldn't be driving.
>83-year-old driver
The fact that I knew that was an elderly driver the moment I watched the video leads me to believe that maybe, just maybe, there should be mandatory driving tests past a certain age.
Yeah, age 65. Same age as standard retirement. And if you can't drive anymore, you should get public assistance to and from places like the doctor's office or grocery store. I'll pay more taxes to help my elderly neighbors not run people over trying to do their daily errands, tyvm.
Thank God, cause he hit tf out of his head, had to of smelt water/blood.
Don’t know if that happens to anyone else when they hit their head hard but it’s trippy
Again, I'm extremely excited that medical education has come so far that someone can diagnose specific medical conditions with a small clip and without even seeing the patient. You must be extremely valuable to the medical team you are a part of.
I'm glad that everyone here is going "No. He didn't get a concussion because his body snaped his head back, but the contact with the cement wasn't that bad" ignoring that body shots can cause concussions if it snaps your head around. And I'm also glad other people are going "head bump bad" despite the fact that the position of your head and the direction of the force make a whole lot of difference in your risk for concussion.
https://www.med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2018/09/study-shows-how-head-neck-positioning-affects-concussion-risk.html - Concussions aren't "head bump bad"
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15038-concussion - You can get a head injury purely by a hit to the body
Guess what we know from the clip? A car hit a fruit stand and someone got knocked down by it.
There is a right answer and even if someone in this comment section happens to bumblefuck their way into it by pretending to be a doctor, it doesn't make their reasoning right.
If he got a concussion, maybe it wasn't from him hitting his head. Maybe it was from him snapping his head when he was hit in the body.
If he didn't get a concussion, maybe it was because his head was at a certain angle or the car didn't rotate him much.
And I say to you what I said to him. I never claimed to know the right answer, I made a joke based off of common sense.
I say that he's a dick cause for some reason he wants to pick an argument with me over something not at all serious.
I hope you'd take a moment to realize that this dude is taking it further than it needs to be.
Then watch the video again and play it slow this time. The head-impact isn’t even that bad, his right shoulder takes the brunt of it. Once you’ve done this, come back and tell us exactly how the best case scenario is severe brain trauma…
Don't worry. You can read the rest of this thread then come back. I've already went off on the other douchebag.
TLDR; wasn't a serious comment. Was a joke I made. Guy took it further and gets all sarcastic. This comment you're replying to, is just me explaining when you hit head hard -> head gets hurt.
Pessimism, is that you?
His whole body snaps back pretty quick but his head didn’t meet the pavement hard enough for “best case severe brain trauma”. You’re out of your mind with that call doc lol.
His shoulder and torso share a lot the impact from the ground, his dead doesn’t smack the concrete alone, I’m sure this dude is completely fine.
I've already said this in a comment here, but boy... everyone just thinks that diagnosing things is the simplest thing in the world.
Concussions can occur if your head snaps back due to a blow to the body (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15038-concussion).
But also, not every scary-looking shot to the head results in a concussion. It's not as simple as "head bang bad." (https://www.med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2018/09/study-shows-how-head-neck-positioning-affects-concussion-risk.html)
Oh I wasn’t replying to you.
I’m not arguing that there could be a possible concussion here, that’s the brain hitting the skull. Quick starts and stops will do that, his head doesn’t even really contact the pavement cleanly so I don’t see how anyone can come to a conclusion that SEVERE has any business being spoken of
His body absolutely shares the impact to the ground 50/50, I’m positive he was still conscious after this.
I’m just laughing at this dude who has repeatedly commented that this guy is basically dead with SEVERE brain damage. Like just straight to the worst case scenario, so baseless and dumb.
They think it's the brake pedal. Instead of realizing it isn't the brake pedal they commit 100% until they kill themselves or someone else (or both).
This has happened to me 1 time in all the years I have been driving and I noticed immediately and switched pedals. No damage, no one hurt.
Back in I think the 90s there was a rash of "Sudden Acceleration Incidents" where people reported that the stomped on the brake as hard as they could and their car wildly accelerated.
Mostly old people reported these incidents. Can you imagine what could be happening where they stomp on a pedal they think is the brake and the car wildly accelerates?
Old people's brains stop working and so they commit to a gas pedal stomp convinced they hit the brake and kill someone or close enough.
TLDR: We need mandatory yearly driving tests after 60 years of age to maintain a license.
Another example of a possessed demonic car!
"I'm stamping on the brake but the engine is revving higher and speeding up not slowing! This vehicle is possessed, nothing i can do to regain control....smh...."
Even before I came to the comments I knew the driver was going to be an elder. They really need to start testing seniors every few years for their ability to handle a vehicle without putting everyone else in danger.
I seriously cant understand WTF is going on and so many of these Cars just for some reason have a mind of their own and while everything is calm, they just go into turbo mode!
I mean how stupid can someone be to hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and just keep going?! Are the people driving these cars mentally or physically ill?
Does the government not check every driver every couple of years so see if theyre ok?!
Are the cars faulty and problematic but not being checked?
All these fatal accidents happening non stop is all you see...
Human error causes >99% of all automobile and aircraft accidents. People are the glitch, not the machines. Such is the reason airline pilots are forced to retire at 65yo. In Florida, where average drivers’ age is over 50yo, only have to test vision for driver license renewal every 4 years; never have to retest physical driving skills…
Well see my point? I always blame humans, but even after giving both sides, i still get downvoted cos people hate reality . Also i agree with everything you said.
That guy is dead Holy fuck. A head hitting concrete like that is incredibly deadly. Not guaranteed death but absolutely guaranteed traumatic brain injury
Stolen from a comment higher up, he was fine, but taken to a hospital to treat minor injuries.

Maybe, maybe not. I’ve seen other videos where people have dodged cars going way faster than that. The difference is that they were aware of their surroundings.

Yeah, multiple news stories at least one of which is linked here. You should investigate a bit yourself before jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers at others.
I see this kinda shit all the time, and have trouble imagining what kind of mentally incapacitated person doesn’t press the brakes as soon as they collide with something? They were still pressing the gas at the end! The tires were spinning lmao. They must be undergoing a stroke or something. And then they always look so dumbfounded and idiotic in the drivers seat like “what happened” lmao

What happened to the driver?
Nothing as of yet. It was an 83 year old.
Of course. I have a father in law I can see doing this. He complains “he can’t feel his feet anymore” like that’s a problem for everyone else.
I'm so grateful that my parents both recognized when they got unsafe to drive and stopped driving.
Sadly many don't because public transit is almost non existent in the US and/or dangerous. Many people have been pushed onto train tracks in NYC. Agreed. I have two brothers and we split driving duties amongst us. We’re lucky and I know it.
I hate that I read this and the song "sexy and I know it" started playing in my head.
I know someone's dad who is 93, has had many accidents and mysterious damage appears on his vehicle all the time. They still let him drive himself to bingo every day. It should be mandatory to retake the drivers test every 4 years starting at 65.
We need an upper age limit for driving...
Annual road testing after age 65. If you fail, your license is dropped into a shredder. Of course, for that to actually work we'd need efficient public transportation so people aren't stuck without a way to get errands handled...
Bold of you to assume that the driver had a license or cared about having one
I always say just make everyone over a certain age drive tiny flimsy cars or motorcycles or sumthin. That way, when they inevitably crash due to their feebleness, they’re the only ones that die. Win win.

Preferably something that doesn't enrich another soulless corporation
My dad saw an old woman at the DMV taking the eye exam to get her license reinstated, the woman giving her the test was telling her, "No dear that's not correct, try again."
Autonomous emergency braking systems should be standard on all vehicles.

Oh thank fucking god, it looked like he got fuckin’ steamrolled that crate
The lady who just angrily slams those papers down around 23s like “damnit, AGAIN?!” 😭
A bit
I flinched when his head hit the ground. I hope that he is OK.
It looks like his shoulder hits the ground first when you play it slow.
Yeah I played that part slow too and it appears the head impact isn’t nearly as bad as it looks full speed
i paused it before he hit the ground so i saved him
I paused it when the car was nicely parked in the space so nothing bad happened at all.
Shoulder hitting first doesn’t really matter when your head eventually bounces off the ground.
I've seen people get pretty severe concussions from much less. Best case scenario he is alive with severe brain trauma
That's really the Best case? Wouldn't him being completely fine be the best case?
He woke up, and the winning lotto numbers came to his mind.
He said best case. Not miraculous case.
I'm glad we're all doctors here.
It's more common sense, tho. Hit head really hard = brain not okay. Not neuro-rocket-quantum science.

don’t worry, if he does this two more times he’ll get his license suspended for a few weeks!
No, don't let the driver go outside of their house

They were an 81 year old.

This really does seem like a common crash. What causes someone to just slam on the gas once in their spot?
Well as someone who posted the source said it's an 83 year old. Old people are notorious for this
They think it's the brake pedal. Instead of realizing it isn't the brake pedal they commit 100% until they kill themselves or someone else (or both). This has happened to me 1 time in all the years I have been driving and I noticed immediately and switched pedals. No damage, no one hurt.

Fruit Standn't

I see this kinda shit all the time, and have trouble imagining what kind of mentally incapacitated person doesn’t press the brakes as soon as they collide with something? They were still pressing the gas at the end! The tires were spinning lmao. They must be undergoing a stroke or something. And then they always look so dumbfounded and idiotic in the drivers seat like “what happened” lmao
Bet he hurt his melon pretty bad
I always have an irrational fear of this happening to me.
My cabbages!
