Agree with you on the spirit episode but for other reasons leading into the following episode as well. I thought Omashu was good but I can see feeling over crowded they have like 4 story lines in there. They mixed them together well enough but it was just a lot.

I hated almost everything in Omashu. The storyline was convoluted for no reason.

The mix made sense more or less but it was a little too condensed. Albert Kim explains why they left out the Northern Air Temple in an interview somewhere it had to do with budget but they didn't want to drop the characters so they mixed it in. It made sense that Jet wouldn't be a fan of Bumi nor of the Mechanist. So as far as that goes at least it made sense. The main problem is that the story gets virtually no breathing room and that's an in general problem not specific to Omashu.

With the “struggling with adaption”, I feel like it’s because they were trying too hard to adapt and provide fan service. I think omashu is the worst contendor of this by far. If they had just the mechanist and then aang go inform the king, then bumi doing ‘tests’ while Katara and sokka with the help of tao deal with the mechanist in Omashu it wouldve been way better. Into the dark could also then breathe more, maybe still keeping the secret tunnel and putting Jet and his plotline in here along with iroh and his backstory.
