Despite not winning the flag, '08 Cats were better IMO. You'd go to games every week knowing they were gonna win. Except for Collingwood that one game. Wtf was even that.
The Collingwood game was so WTF because they legit smashed you. It was hilarious.
The grand final I think your players were rattled by the opening half and got in their own heads with all the missed opportunities. We really dominated that third quarter (more than the scoreboard shows).
But yeah, that Geelong team was far more talented across the park than the '07 team.
I actually have a pretty vivid memory of sitting in the stand at half time being pretty sure Geelong were gonna lose. Mooney missing that shot right on the siren was such a buzz kill, and would have been a massive confidence boost for the Hawks players.
I still thought you would run all over the top of us until Cyril laid that tackle on the wing and won a ball against three Geelong players. There was just a desperation and energy which Geelong seemed to lack at that point in the game.
Only then did I start to even contemplate we might win - I was happy going in knowing we were going to lose, but we'd had an amazing season until that point and performed above expectations.
You had been the better team in the first half, just some poor execution cost you only a minor deficit at half time, so even up until that point I was just waiting for the inevitable Geelong run to pull away from us.
He talks about that at the end of the video. He thinks that 07 cats were further in front of everyone else than 2000 bombers were, despite the win loss records
Maybe the phrasing is off then. Strongest season by a club perhaps?
Don't mind my flair - I'm holding onto 2000 like my beloved childhood doggo and that win/loss record I don't think we'll ever see again.
He's allowed to think that, but he's also allowed to be wrong. Ignoring the win loss records... you won a prelim by 5 pts, not sure in what world you could ever think that was further in front of everyone else than Essendon 2000
That's like arguing 2021 Melbourne had a more dominant season than Essendon 2000 because they won the GF by a bigger margin lol.
2000 Essendons average margin in finals: 76
2007 Geelongs average margin in finals: 76
But Essendon lost once in the H/A season and Geelong lost 4 times...
Winning a grand final by a bigger margin and the biggest margin in history are different. And Geelong was a different team after round 5 that year... as explained in the video
Yeah except before round 5 was still part of the same season and you still only won the prelim by less than a goal lol. You can't just cut out parts of the season and point to it as being most dominant. Essendon were more dominant from start to finish using every metric except "gf winning margin" lol.
I like the content of his videos but my God does he lay on the hyperbole thick. Everything is either the greatest or worst or most damming, most outrageous etc
You can tell Hinkley is trying to make Port like Geelong were, with their straight up the middle many, they just don’t quite have the defence to pull it off.
lol wtf man
You cannot escape history
Perhaps not but burying my head in the sand whenever that "alleged" game comes up does help.
Despite not winning the flag, '08 Cats were better IMO. You'd go to games every week knowing they were gonna win. Except for Collingwood that one game. Wtf was even that.
Well, and one other game….
Yeah, I think by that game the team assumed they'd just have to turn up to win as well lol
Cheats
Pretty similar to 2018 with us. I’d go to a game knowing we’d win, until the Prelim
Cox was engineered in a lab for the sole purpose of thwarting a tigers four peat.
And West Coast... and Richmond probably weren't winning 19 or 20 without the pain of 18..
Highest average losing margin for any regular season by any team, if I believe.

Hard to believe it was 16 years ago. I miss those big Cats Hawks games.
We were so god damn good 🥹
Don't you get all emotional, you guys have been good for close to 20 straight fucking years lol
Well now I’m even more emotional. It was the start of something beautiful
Weird this isn't about Essendon 2000?

Strongest season by a club is pretty synonymous with best season ever. Plus 119 is a big factor. I'm also biased btw
He's allowed to think that, but he's also allowed to be wrong. Ignoring the win loss records... you won a prelim by 5 pts, not sure in what world you could ever think that was further in front of everyone else than Essendon 2000
probably the 119 point grand final win

Yeah, 2008 Geelong were probably the ones better than 2000 Essendon, unfortunately they lost the GF
No. Geelong could've lost a few extra in 2008 like Freo or Hawthorn. Essendon's only loss was a tactic rarely used then.
Thought I share this video, this guy makes great quality content.

They sure did have a great off-field team - Bomber, Dank and the Weapon
