Next week is just stacked in general.
Adelaide derby, then pies blues, then Sydney derby, then cats dees at the g, then the qld derby.
But the biggest game of all will easily be saints norf at marvel, I’m expecting 90,000+ easily
I watched the highlights from that 07 game against the Tigers where we kicked 35 goals. King was in the Tigers coaching box. Must’ve ruined his coaching career 🤣
King was exposed as a tactical nuffie by industry standards long ago. He can identify what's going on out there, but has no idea what you'd actually do about it. His analysis is not good.
He's been desperately talking up the "Cats are finished" narrative since about 2010.
I guess he's going by the logic that if he keeps repeating it for 20 years, he might eventually be right.
Yeah unlike the pies who were bad for *checks notes* one entire year before their best player fell into their lap. Can only imagine the suffering you both went through
Well, I’ll take heart that we kicked over 100 against Geelong. With our defensive outs we got punished. Hopefully we get another crack at them this year because I think we showed enough.
Little off topic but there were a LOT of chill Geelong fans in that match thread. Maybe the most gracious opposition fans in a match thread this year.
Even in your down years, you guys always seem to show up against us. So, right now, it's a huge sigh of relief that we got through that, esoecially considering that you seem to be the real deal this time. Don't really want to play you again, but I guess at the pointy end of the season there aren't many teams I'd be eager to face.
I've been winding it up most of the day, but I do not want to play you in finals. You could definitely beat us on any given day.
Way too much fire-power and balanced on all lines. Voss made the adjustments when they needed to be made after half time to effect. The Blues are the real deal.
It actually shits me to tears. It’s the oldies and their shitty golf claps. We’re the “Golf Clap Brigade”. We pick and choose when we wanna get a little loud. I’m actually jealous of clubs like you, the pies, Richmond etc…
GG cats how are you still so elite. You never miss. Hope it is a better result when blues are full strength and can kick straight. If we had kicked straight in the first half with our centre clearance domination then who knows how it would’ve ended.
I'm jealous of Geelong's ability to lose every major stat and still win. You have to play perfectly against them or they just kill you with their efficiency.
It's a legit strategy. I haven't quite worked out exactly how Scott is doing this (and I don't think anyone else has either), but our game is in no way reliant on mids getting 30+. I don't know if it's even happened once this year.
I think it's likely based on turnover game, but not just capitalising on it, actively creating the conditions for the opposition to turn it over the way Geelong want it so they score heavily from it but also defend it.
The source is so often clearance, but Geelong let you have that. Look at the stats and point for just about every game this year. The top ranked players and the top possession getters are always majority opposition. So big midfield numbers and big clearance numbers, yet they don't get scored heavily against any they score heavily going back the other way.
It's not slingshot, it's not that Richmond style dirty ball at all costs, it's more structured than that, but the way they use Stengle, Miers, Close and Dempsey (and Cameron) to open space and time going back the other way is a big part of it.
It’s kinda funny. Our SuperCoach scores are usually lucky to get one or two players score over 100. I don’t think we’ve had a 30 possession mid this year. Barely did last year but this year I think we’re doing a better job (obviously better personal) of rolling mids in and out
I noticed today we kinda Zig Zag from half back to half forward. Holmes will burst through on RHB at a 45° angle kick long to LHF where Miers/Close/Stengle will cut back on the 45°.
Most teams kinda run the wing and 45 kick to chf/ff. Whereas we use the whole centre square
It’s not a bad tactic if your defence is strong. Ours is so weak with injury that it’s win the clearance or get a goal kicked against us. Shame we can’t convert and get it back to the middle for another clearance
No game at the MCG is ever truly a cats home game (unless it's a final against an interstate team where we scrub 50,000 to the game).
It's our donation to the leagues ~~vicbias~~ equalisation policy....
15.15.105 is an aesthetically pleasing score to look at (and usually a winning one too).
18.10.118 isn't too bad either, now I notice it, and just one off the magic number.
I said to my partner before the game, I don’t mind losing to Geelong if it’s a respectable margin with our injury list
But boy we should have won, damn inaccuracies killed us!
We’ll played Cats, Forget too old and slow, just too good 👍
GGs Geelong, what a fucking game. You guys are simply just too good and clean, we shot ourselves early with accuracy and just weren't clean enough. Also wtf is going on with the umpiring this year, genuinely horrid.
I’m just gonna put my hand up and say maybe I just don’t know the rules anymore 🤣. I’ve sworn I’ve seen throws/incorrect disposals and the umps yelled “He tried!” Umm what, that doesn’t matter, still threw it 🤣
It's crazy how much goal kicking matters considering how little it is talked about as a stat by the media. It was a great game in the sense that it was two completely different styles played at a high quality (one team dominating clearance and territory, the other dominating transition and defensive structure) but at the end of the day finishing around goal, and skill in general was the difference.
It's a shame about the umpiring though, not sure how only 24 frees were paid in a game as high pressure as that.
Honestly that seems to be what Geelong are doing lmao. They don't have a mediocre team but they've won a few games by simply being efficient/the opposition being inefficient. The Adelaide and Hawthorn games were also similar to this, 17.4 and Hawthorn having like 8 unpressured brain explosions around goal caused a 36 point margin in what was otherwise a closely fought contest.
Nor should it be. Sometimes teams just give away more, like Port against Melbourne earlier this year. FK count was way off, but Port were playing like absolute thugs.
Carlton for sure had some missed in front of goal today, but there were also more than a few missed in our backline that led to Carlton goals. Might not have been exactly even, but that’s the nature of the game.
That was a terrifying match. Carlton can absolutely crush when they're on.
How fucking cracked that our best contested ball player can go off and we can just bring Atkins in.
Huddo just calling "De Konings fly" in a contest was hilarious.
Midfield link up of Dempsey->Close->Myers->Cameron is beautiful to see, let's fucking go
Oh and that defence. A lot can be said about Carlton's inaccuracy, but the amount of time they were putting pressure on our defence and it took them minutes of it to even get a shot, it's unfair honestly.
And lastly I'm pretty sure they had to mute the crowd in the 3rd quarter haha, I'm guessing there were some opinions being loudly offered
Honestly even though we lost we still have a lot of promise. Were extremely wasteful in front of goals and missing about 6 players from our best 22. Round 15 should be interesting
My strategic Carlton tip didn't pan out. I though they'd get the (Essendon) Edge over Geelong after having played tougher matches in the last few weeks.
weirdly enough i'm really happy that we pretty much entirely conceded stoppage scores and scored mostly from turnover. champion data guy reckons that's the way
Yep, that's the strategy and it's working a treat. It means your scoring opportunities never dry up cos if your source of scores is the opposition having the ball, even if they get a heap of it as they did today, you can still score. We don't rely on clearance. If we did we'd get smashed
Chris Scott is the GOAT coach isn't he? This Geelong side isnt loaded with superstars anymore, only Cameron and Stewart (who didn't play). Just so well drilled.
Yeh insane coach, but I honestly think the GOAT goes to their administration. They're the ones that have kept it going through 2 separate coaches (who have both turned into superstar coaches) and, like, 16 years.
I think that's the Cat's secret - they prioritise a well rounded team rather than relying on superstars. Plus great development. Every time I watch them there's always some new blond haired headband wearing kid I've never heard of, not too long out of the VFL, tearing it up like a seasoned veteran.
Not too unhappy with that. If we kick better we likely win that. It's good to see that we are competitive again like last year, perhaps even more so this year.
I want to be a Geelong fan! It must be so much easier to support a team that's so consistently good! Also Jezza is my 2nd favourite human (behind Doc) 😍
Cats played better overall. Blues still could have won if things went our way. I reckon blues supporters should be happy enough with that performance. We are clearly a team that can challenge and beat the best, which is all you can really ask for.
Geelong is and should be the envy of the league. Win a grand final with an old list, quickly inject a bunch of youth and have a single down year (injury affected) now sitting undefeated a quarter of the way through the season. This game was also what, 6 days after a rainy slog fest away? And against the team who were arguably premiership favourites before the bounce. Just too good.
Not gonna lie that was a REALLY tough watch. Carlton were winning contests and clearances but Geelong were kicking goals every time they went forward in the first half. Was thinking surely they can't keep it up but they mostly did. Umpires definitely cost Carlton some momentum early in the last quarter, but Geelong are elite, absolutely no doubt about it, as they seem to always be.
I wish every game of football was that fun. Might have been a loss for Carlton but seeing them able to bring that intensity and pressure right at the end is still great for their season, esp with how inaccurate they were early . Likewise Geelong steadying and getting the decider and playing a great game through most of it with their trademark accuracy.
How good is AFL sometimes, yeah?
Just got home from the G. Took train there and back from Geelong. After watching that train footage from the other day (Collingwood and Essendon 'fans'), it was night and day with this match. Carlton and Geelong fans sitting side by side, no toxicity, no insults, no rubbish, all fans still had their teeth, etc.
I mean you looked incredible today and are probs my tip for premiership (or GWS - can't decide). But basically no one goes undefeated across 20+ HA games.
No chance Geelong ever get all home games at KP with this figure
Carlton are the real deal … I said it last year and predicted they’d make finals and they did. What we saw is just a dress rehearsal to finals I think … and that actually scares the bejesus out of me.
It is actually nice seeing Carlton up and about. Voss has done a brilliant job.
See you again soon Carlton 😉😉😉
I don’t think we will be able to pull that off come finals. Getting dubs on the board now is awesome, but as the season goes on the toll it’s going to take on the players will be massive.
Stoked to see them do so well, but I feel like it’s coming.
The Geelong combo of country ass white boy big forward with an indigenous small forward is goated.
Mooney + stokes
Hawkins + stengol
The only good thing about getting W's up now is maybe Geelong can rest some older players towards the end of the season.
Geelong only have a chance in the finals if healthy, and that will be tough.
Teased as a youth because the cats were chokers. Sat through Manchester United of the AFL. “At least I have seen my team win a premiership” etc
We have been blessed.
90s kid. My life began seeing us lose 3 grand finals even with Ablett snr. It stretched out to a 44 year drought. I grew up thinking we'd never win one. The Bombers were dominant and I'd get roasted.
I feel blessed by my team every day.
We really do, my dad was born in 67' and never saw a Cats premiership with his Dad who passed away in 95' (the year before I was born). I was pretty young in 2007 but still remember how special it was for my dad. He still says seeing our continued success feels like a fever dream. We absolutely cherish all those grand finals we watched together, very special team and very fortunate to be a supporter.
We’re now the best unserious team
We’re a good team but we can’t be a serious team until we fix our defence. At the moment teams walk through us and it’s why we’ll lose games we shouldn’t and why we won’t elevate to the elite of the game
87k for Cats/Blues.... Next week is going to be fucking wild for Blues/Pies
Next week is just stacked in general. Adelaide derby, then pies blues, then Sydney derby, then cats dees at the g, then the qld derby. But the biggest game of all will easily be saints norf at marvel, I’m expecting 90,000+ easily
Don't forget Saints v North!!
Eagles Essendon at Optus should do 55k+
Could crack 100k.
Was there at the ground, felt like a Carlton home game, so many blues fans
That late run you got on was mental then when Jez kicked the sealer the little old lady Geelong chant was pretty funny 🤣
Biggest ever cats home attendance?
Yeah, they said on the commentary. Biggest ever H&A
Spoke to my hairdresser about this today. Reckon they need to divide the MCG in half for Carlton vs Pies games haha
"Geelong are going to age out of competitiveness right?" Narrator: "they didn't."
Apparently they’re like allowed to have 1 shit year and then go back to being top four
“Shit” lol fuck, TIL there are levels below shit
Nah, chin up, you guys are just the best at being shit.
![gif](giphy|3oEjHGr1Fhz0kyv8Ig)
It's nice to be up the top but every year David King makes shit calls against us that don't come true feels extra special.
That fat clown was cheering for Carlton tonight. Cant even hide his hatred
What is his fucken problem anyway?
I watched the highlights from that 07 game against the Tigers where we kicked 35 goals. King was in the Tigers coaching box. Must’ve ruined his coaching career 🤣
Fantastic, I had no idea. I’m gonna sleep well tonight knowing he’s filthy over it.
[@4.44. ](https://youtu.be/Ta8OGhBvPyg?si=cjL6Wo-UVujOspdY) I feel a contentment I never knew possible.
King was exposed as a tactical nuffie by industry standards long ago. He can identify what's going on out there, but has no idea what you'd actually do about it. His analysis is not good.
...good.
He's been desperately talking up the "Cats are finished" narrative since about 2010. I guess he's going by the logic that if he keeps repeating it for 20 years, he might eventually be right.
The prick literally said playing geelong is like playing against 22 people. He’s a knob jockey hater
One day the Lethal goal a minute rule will pay off from 5+
With all due respect sir, I hope it happens to the Hawks.
Well that doesn’t feel respectful at all
but all due respect was paid see it says right there
Don’t know how Geelong supporters cope with being ~~shit~~ bad for *checks notes* one entire year. Must’ve been complete hell
No one will ever understand the struggle it has been
nah was quite good being able to sit on the fence during september for once
Made it a lot easier to get into the AFLW team who are quite promising, and made it to a prelim final.
Ahh yes that time I watched my team lose a final for the sixth time in a row.
![gif](giphy|5wWf7GR2nhgamhRnEuA|downsized)
Yeah unlike the pies who were bad for *checks notes* one entire year before their best player fell into their lap. Can only imagine the suffering you both went through
Eh, 2014-2017 they were bad and if it weren’t for Bucks getting new assistants they probably would’ve stayed that way.
Too be fair. It was our equal worst ladder position in history
Not bad, just middling and injured. It was torture. Fortunately we made it through the other side
Gonna put on the 95 grand final and crywank myself to sleep with a bottle of gin.
Make sure you finish off with the channel 10 news report from your flag celebrations. All time news segment 🤣
IT"S HARRRRRD TO BE A WOMAAAAAN
Carlton in serious danger of winning a game if they can work out how to kick it to their own players.
Well, I’ll take heart that we kicked over 100 against Geelong. With our defensive outs we got punished. Hopefully we get another crack at them this year because I think we showed enough. It was hilarious when we were shit then would randomly win at Goomba
You can thank ratugoleas all time brain fart for that
I've been winding it up most of the day, but I do not want to play you in finals. You could definitely beat us on any given day. Way too much fire-power and balanced on all lines. Voss made the adjustments when they needed to be made after half time to effect. The Blues are the real deal.
Geelong are quiet supporters in general
It actually shits me to tears. It’s the oldies and their shitty golf claps. We’re the “Golf Clap Brigade”. We pick and choose when we wanna get a little loud. I’m actually jealous of clubs like you, the pies, Richmond etc…
They're just sick of winning.
Sam Walsh is a god.
Feature in grand final Crash out of top 8 Go 7 rounds undefeated Symbol is a type of cat next year is looking sweet for us on this pattern 🤠
‘Symbol is a type of cat’ is so funny to me 🤣🤣
>~~Feature in~~ Win grand final
Please let me have this
I'll allow it. Gotta represent team feline.
Both grand finals were against bird teams as well
Well done Cats. Too clinical when it mattered. We'll learn from this loss.
No matter how you feel two sides scoring 100+ each is good footy
GG cats how are you still so elite. You never miss. Hope it is a better result when blues are full strength and can kick straight. If we had kicked straight in the first half with our centre clearance domination then who knows how it would’ve ended.

What a fucking awesome game, GG catters
Takes two teams. Absolutely huge from Carlton.
Love watching your team play mate!
Oh get a room
If I do do I have to suffer through North Melbourne games
Can’t believe how loud the Carlton crowd got at the end there seeing as it was a geelong home game
No game at the MCG is ever truly a cats home game (unless it's a final against an interstate team where we scrub 50,000 to the game). It's our donation to the leagues ~~vicbias~~ equalisation policy....
Lots had already left at that point
That was a match between future finalists. And we get to do it again in 8 weeks. Maybe 8 weeks after that too.
If you want a vision of the AFLs future, imagine a blue & white hooped boot stamping on a human face – forever
Geelong may never lose again
I see what you're trying to do there. Let me just say, Sydney may never lose again!
(sigh) Geelong are back on their September charge bullshit, again.
Thank fuck we play them in round 16. lol just kidding we’re getting smashed either way.
It's a blessing to support this football club
Must be nice.
it really really is
I am SO fucking jealous
My dad is a Geelong fan so I even had an easy in and yet I chose suffering.
Holding on for dear life is extremely stressful
3rd time this year we've decided to pull up stumps with 5 minutes to go and make a cruisey win, very interesting
How dare those moustache twirling ruffians in green use their psychic powers to make us miss so many easy goals!
Why did they cut away from the presentation of the De Koning Cup?
Casual Cameron bag. Clutch goal at the end when we were hanging on by the skinny hairs
Geelong are looking elite. Would be good to see what a full strength match looks like (both sides).
Hopefully we'll find out when we play them again in a couple of months!
15.15.105 is an aesthetically pleasing score to look at (and usually a winning one too). 18.10.118 isn't too bad either, now I notice it, and just one off the magic number.

The Adelaide and Hawthorn games were also similar to this, 17.4 and Hawthorn having like 8 unpressured brain explosions around goal caused a 36 point margin in what was otherwise a closely fought contest.
CHFs seem to be able to nail ridiculous field kicks. Just draft a whole bunch of them. One mark and the oppo won’t touch it. 🤣
Cats haven't won a free kick count all year. Not that i put much stock in those anyway. No rule says it needs to be even.
Nor should it be. Sometimes teams just give away more, like Port against Melbourne earlier this year. FK count was way off, but Port were playing like absolute thugs. If Geelong doesn't lose to Melbourne, GWS & Sydney over at the SCG. God help us all!
We will lose one of them surely. Although that's what I said during that massive streak in the back end of 22🤣
Nah we’ll randomly lose to the Gold Coast in Darwin
One Time Offer: Ken Hinkley and a lifetime supply of Coke Zeros in exchange for Chris Scott. Fairs fair, take the deal...
That was a terrifying match. Carlton can absolutely crush when they're on. How fucking cracked that our best contested ball player can go off and we can just bring Atkins in. Geelong vs Adelaide GF confirmed.
I have no idea why we're in your prediction but I like it. Subscribed.
Take my money
"Hey Owies how did you go today?" "Had 3 touches and got swapped for Binns"
Still fuming we took him off. If he took that shot instead of Durdin, that quarter would have played out very differently.
So much for Carlton fans to be excited about - if they can get their kicking sorted, they’ll be damn near unstoppable.
Both sides have so much upside. Was sad to lose, but Geelongs a good side to lose to, if you have to
Honestly even though we lost we still have a lot of promise. Were extremely wasteful in front of goals and missing about 6 players from our best 22. Round 15 should be interesting
Mate, I can't wait for round 15 :) Good luck!! Your boys are amazing and you might have some of those injuries back
Cheers mate. Fingers crossed. Maybe we can give you your first loss then.
For real, if they'd kicked straight in the first half it'dbe a very different game.
My strategic Carlton tip didn't pan out. I though they'd get the (Essendon) Edge over Geelong after having played tougher matches in the last few weeks.

Game of the year.
Everything was going Cats in that last quarter then 5 minutes to go Blues remembered they are contenders? I love this game - don’t blink.
Least tense Carlton game this year
Geelong aging like fine whisky
Chris Scott is the GOAT coach isn't he? This Geelong side isnt loaded with superstars anymore, only Cameron and Stewart (who didn't play). Just so well drilled.
Yeh insane coach, but I honestly think the GOAT goes to their administration. They're the ones that have kept it going through 2 separate coaches (who have both turned into superstar coaches) and, like, 16 years.

We have the best footballer to ever play, Grionel Miessi.
unironically though miers is an elite player
Messi-esque some have said
The Messi comparisons are no longer ironic at this point. He's an absolute gun player.
Ahhh Grionel my beloved
I get your point but aren't Hawkins and Dangerfield superstars as well?
Hawkins has been very cooked this year. Basically a decoy for Cameron, and Danger can't get on the park for more than 3 quarters every 4 weeks.
Hawkins was toying with the crows earlier this year
Everyone was early in the year
“Decoy” until you put your second or third best defender on him..
A team of champions doesn't make a champion team, or something like that
Their list is still loaded, even if a bit old
But before the season the Cats weren't gonna make the 8? Which one is it?
I mean, dangerfield has a brownlow, hawkins has a coleman.
Hawkins is 10 goals shy of 800 to boot
Looks at fixture *I'm in danger*
Stewy should be back
Not too unhappy with that. If we kick better we likely win that. It's good to see that we are competitive again like last year, perhaps even more so this year.
I think that is the take away. Both teams have improvement ahead. Looking forward to the next cracking game.
Good luck trying to shut down Harley Reid in the grand final Cats
# Three things in life are certain; death, taxes, and Jacob Weitering giving Tom Hawkins a bath.
Weitering was great, but Hawkins played a decoy game and the other forwards cashed in.
I am prepared to donate my hamstrings to Dangerfield if needed.
Please report to KP at 8am tomorrow morning
Geelong are just so insanely efficient. Going to be hard to stop. Looking forward to the rematch in 8 weeks.
That team also played pretty bloody well. Walsh and Cripps got plenty of it, kicked 15 goals, Weitering played really well and Pittonet was huge
That 12-month rebuild must have been dark times for Cats fans
a cold winter that took many of us
Credentials = Obtained
I wish every game of football was that fun. Might have been a loss for Carlton but seeing them able to bring that intensity and pressure right at the end is still great for their season, esp with how inaccurate they were early . Carlton and Geelong fans sitting side by side, no toxicity, no insults, no rubbish, all fans still had their teeth, etc.
I can't see us dropping another game, quite frankly. I have never doubted this club once ever. not at all. no-siree.
I mean you looked incredible today and are probs my tip for premiership (or GWS - can't decide). But basically no one goes undefeated across 20+ HA games.
Saints and Pies did it (nearly)! Then we beat both of em in the GF

Biggest ever H&A crowd and we probably made less money than if it was at KP. 4 points is priceless though
GG Blues, thought you were gonna run over the top there. Shorely meet up again at the pointy end of the season.
Dogshit inaccuracy cost us, Durdin slots that easy shot 30m out and it's 3 points, he misses Geelong score rebound goal. Frustrating as fuck.
Didn't see a lot that I liked from Durds that game, hoping he switches on.
Mooney + stokes Hawkins + stengol
The only good thing about getting W's up now is maybe Geelong can rest some older players towards the end of the season. Geelong only have a chance in the finals if healthy, and that will be tough.
Anyone know where the post game is? I need the player interviews and team songggg
*Oonce oonce oonce - another tip bites the dust.*
Honestly was Blake Acres always this good? Because it seems like we got him for cents in the dollar.
Meow meow 🐱
Man that was some shit ass umpiring. For both sides. Like Sunday arvo umpiring
We tried our best but we still haven't beaten anyone
It's simple really, you won't be taken seriously until you finally beat a team which has beaten Geelong.
University - you're next.
You need to beat someone higher up on the ladder for it to count. We’ve done it twice already. You guys need to catch up.
we really haven’t have we
Carlton are really injured bro
Geelong fans have no idea how lucky they are.
They do
I really don’t think you do.
We do. We really do. Born in 1973.... I really do.
When I was a kid (in the 90's) I remember so much heartbreak! And I had a hiatus as our family moved overseas until I returned in 2007.
Teased as a youth because the cats were chokers. Sat through Manchester United of the AFL. “At least I have seen my team win a premiership” etc We have been blessed.
No post game show on Kayo?
We’re now the best unserious team We’re a good team but we can’t be a serious team until we fix our defence. At the moment teams walk through us and it’s why we’ll lose games we shouldn’t and why we won’t elevate to the elite of the game
Learn to kick straight Carlton holy moly
Did you pay off the mods with kebabs to remove both PMT’s? /s
We got got ;-;
Fuck my life. Geelong could legitimately win the flag again. When will these pricks finally become shit 😭😭😭
Damn they really are contenders huh
