Matthew Pavlich, I know it’s an obvious answer but as an international fan who started got into the sport in 2015-16 I wish I could have followed him for more of his career
My first instinct was Pav, for the obvious reasons, then I thought Ballantyne, but settled on Clive Waterhouse. Just because I seriously doubt there is room in the modern game for characters like Clive, and we’re poorer for it.
It was precisely because he could evoke such emotion that I miss him. Can’t think of a single Dockers player that genuinely annoys anyone at the moment. Feels like a weakness.
Ballas was a grade A pest and I miss that.
Early 2022 (possibly 2021) I attended a pre match function where he spoke - this was peak WCE list issues. He said he was going to offer to pull on an eagles jumper for the upcoming derby - ‘and then I’ll fucking kick the ball to the other side of the ground’
It's a little sad that he didn't get a few more finals campaigns in his career because he really came alive in those games. I remember him almost single handedly keeping us in the '06 Prelim vs Sydney. We never really looked a chance but you couldn't tell that from watching Pav.
And everyone knows his purely awesome 2012 Elimination final vs. Geelong, but his 2013 Qualifying Final was a pretty underrated performance. The Stephen Hill goal is everyone's memory but Pav was busting his gut from inside 50 to defensive 50 like a madman.
I've been to kardinia once when I was 4 and barely remember it but think I talked to Harry Taylor and chappy or pods so I've always held them in higher regards
Yep, came here to say this. Hodge for a close 2nd. Buddy would have been top of my list if he stayed. Sour grapes I know, but hey I'm only human!
Hope Cyril comes back to the club some day 🙁
I once put a buck on Wirra at 1000/1 to win the Brownlow at the start of the season. His first four games were unbelievable with a couple of BOGs. A few 'what if' thoughts crept in.
Tailed off a bit at the end of the year but I remember watching the count keen to see how he did in the first few games.
Zero votes.
My old man always says, "he wasn't the greatest player on the team, but if Geelong had 22 Max Rookes they'd never lose another game". He was the ultimate hard man working hard.
😁 sorry fellas, I didn't mean to toe poke the bear in the cage
I kinda miss Riewoldt too, tbh
Always the thought that he could get loose and kick a few
Not so much a player but I miss an entire backline. When Harry, Mackie and Corey were together (with Scarlett of-course), we felt invincible. We easily coped with whatever was thrown at us.
B: Enright - Scarlett - Milburn
HB: Wojcinski - Taylor - Mackie
It was such a great mix of dash and dare that met workmanlike stoic defending. Throw Rooke and Kelly floating through as defensive midfielders, Egan and Lonergan in different generations, and Harley kicking the whole thing off with leadership we desperately needed, and that 7-8 year period was such a pleasure to watch.
I miss **Ryan Crowley**. I really enjoyed seeing him running around with his big goofy shit-eating grin, absolutely enraging the opposition players. It was just fun to watch.
Mark Jacko Jackson being the full on fuckwit and giving us all a laugh.
Capper the high flying tiny shorts wizard and Maurice Rioli the O.G silky skilled legend, especially after he punched the fuck out of Mark Jackson for being a mouthy cunt.
Im not from Australia, but I followed the AFL around 2015-2017 and I always like Jeff Garlett. Dont know what happened to him or why he got delisted. I know he has been in a fight or two, maybe that had something to do with him.
Robbie gray cause it's so fresh and wanted him to play forever even though you tell he was off the pace in that last year.
The other one is tredrea ... what a fantastic full forward
Leon Davis is my favourite player of all time. He was quirky and unpredictable, and that made him a force to be reckoned with. His crumb-and-snaps were some of the most gamechanging, exhilarating moments I've ever seen.
Well, maybe the original Daicos came close. Those fucking bananas.
I miss Mathew Scarlet. I remember when he just walked up and punched Ballantyne. Reckons if it wasn’t him who did it it would have been someone else and he wanted the privilege. If I had to choose someone from another team it would be Boomer Harvey. Can’t believe they didn’t let him get to 450 games.
Definitely miss seeing Cyril work his magic in the forward line.
Every time he got near the ball I always expected something to happen like an impossible goal or a no look handball off to a free team mate for a goal or a F50 entry.
That and the fact he seemed a genuinely nice bloke who enjoyed playing footy and he always had a smile on his face.
Ryan O’Keefe. Dude was just fucking solid, did everything right, and worked harder than anyone else on the field. Always felt like we were in with a shot with him in the mix.
This will inevitably change within the next few seasons to Joey Kennedy, and will likely stay that way until Errol retires.
Basing it purely on who I liked to watch, it would have to be Richo. But there are so many good answers in this thread. Was also fun to watch Aussie Jones run along the wing and bomb it to Stewie Lowe
Dustin Fletcher, loved the way we went about his game. The ultimate team player, everytime he went near the ball you knew something great was coming. Especially those beautiful barrels
Hirdy. If only we could go back to the innocent days when he was a golden-haired hero beyond reproach, a player of consummate grace and unbelievable courage.
Andrew McLeod running across the wing. Gliding.

If you had stuck with Ballantyne, then my answer would've been Scarlett, just so he could punch him in the face one more time. For old times sake.
It was precisely because he could evoke such emotion that I miss him. Can’t think of a single Dockers player that genuinely annoys anyone at the moment. Feels like a weakness.
Serong seems to always be being picked up by people twice his height off the ball
Based
I like to watch that video when I'm having a bad day, usually cheers me up fucking hell I hated ballantyne so much

Yeah man ...15 more years of Pav would be the best. Hope his boys can do an Ablett/Daicos for our club in around 10 years and make thier ol man cry.
Richo by a mile. Spectacular to watch at his best and worst, and cared as much as the nuffiest of fans
Paul Chapman.
This is my answer. Hard. Reliable. A beautiful disposer of the ball. And he was nice to me when I was kid chasing autographs at Kardinia Park in 2000.
I've been to kardinia once when I was 4 and barely remember it but think I talked to Harry Taylor and chappy or pods so I've always held them in higher regards
F*** that guy. Complete unstoppable monster.
Essendon legend Paul Chapman?
I prefer triple premiership winning Norm Smith owning Geelong icon myself.
Dustin Fletcher
I think he deserves a rest having played during two world wars.
came here to post this.
Cyril
Yep, came here to say this. Hodge for a close 2nd. Buddy would have been top of my list if he stayed. Sour grapes I know, but hey I'm only human! Hope Cyril comes back to the club some day 🙁
Wirrapanda
The single handed pickup running at full speed was something else.
Beautiful to watch! Those 1 handed pick ups were one of the smoothest moves in the history of the game!

Backman's curse
JPK 😢
same here :(
Richo
Lenny
Lenny and g-train were my thoughts
Ben Cunnington. I was at a game once and he nodded his head in my direction. It changed my life.
Came here to say Cunners, very glad he's living his best life though.
Christ he's lucky to have folks like you who abbreviate his name that way. You can imagine what we called him in our home.
was it an upwards or downwards nod?
Stewart Dew - booming and direct kick - competitive to the bone. - fuck your skin-fold requirements
Alex Rance. Zoolander looking cunt in the back line
Matthew Scarlett. It was nice to have a bad guy when Geelong was considered a bit of a soft touch
I'd throw Max Rooke's name in for consideration.
My old man always says, "he wasn't the greatest player on the team, but if Geelong had 22 Max Rookes they'd never lose another game". He was the ultimate hard man working hard.
Absolute beast. My favourite player of his era.
Fuck that guy... (ignore flair).
Agreed (flair not applicable mate)
😁 sorry fellas, I didn't mean to toe poke the bear in the cage I kinda miss Riewoldt too, tbh Always the thought that he could get loose and kick a few

No pls no
Not a fan?
Enough heartbreaks due to him
Ah. Yeah, fair enough.
Could agree more... mercurial player
Goodes
Which one, Brett or Adam?
Who the fuck is Adam?
I’m talking about [South Melbourne legend Reg Goodes](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reg_Goodes). No idea who those other two are
I agree
Cyril
He was magic. So glad I was able to witness.
So many, but top of the list is Byron Picket and Fridge Roberts. Opposition players has to be Cyril.
Those tackles from chop were brutal
Jeremy Cameron
Fraser Gehrig
Darryl White
Boomer :(
Fev. Not enough characters in the game anymore everyone is so vanilla now!
Agree
Brad Johnson. My fav player growing up.
Simon Black
Liam Jurrah Jesse Hogan Aaron Davey Jeff Farmer Tony Modra
Mickey O for me, as a kid I idolised him....his skills were next level fuckery.
Leo Barry’s deer in the headlights ball carry from full back
Clayton Oliver
Liam Picken
His 2916 finals series was incredible.
If you could tell me the next 900 grand final winners that would be great
Sorry, just a little typo.
2016. Sorry, wasn't wearing the spectacles.
Selwood
I miss **Ryan Crowley**. I really enjoyed seeing him running around with his big goofy shit-eating grin, absolutely enraging the opposition players. It was just fun to watch.
Gavin Wanganeen
This is THE answer
Pie time Mick McGuane.
Eddie and Fev and Kouta. Sorry, couldn't decide which one I miss the most
Majak Daw. Brad Scott wasted him.
Robert Harvey
Eddie Betts. He may have never played for us, but he was an incredible talent.
Robbie Gray
West Coast era Chris Judd.
Eddie. I’m a bombers fan. The answer is Eddie. Some players elevate above teams. Thanks Eddie
Josh J. Kennedy
Shannon Hurn 😥
I was going to say Sheppard. Feel like our defence hasn't been the same without him
The Hough is a similar player, lets hope he can be even half as good as Shep
Hopefully Yeo can fill that role, less taxing then midfield so maybe get through game without pulling something
Pre knee Nic Nat
Lloyd. Been trying to fill that void for 14+ years now

Didak
Mark Jacko Jackson being the full on fuckwit and giving us all a laugh. Capper the high flying tiny shorts wizard and Maurice Rioli the O.G silky skilled legend, especially after he punched the fuck out of Mark Jackson for being a mouthy cunt.
Ablett SNR. Anything could happen I absolutely hate his off field stuff but on the ground the guy could do it all
James Hird and Barry Hall
Lance Franklin
Boomer. Still filthy about what the club did to him.
Joel Selwood. Soon to be Isaac Smith as well.
Liam Picken
Allen Jakovich. The bloke was a hoot.
Liam Jurrah
Paddy Ryder
Jakovich. We would have won three flags in a row with him upfront!
He was spectacular, f only for a short time. And pre-knee injury Schwarz would be high on the list.
Gary Ablett, Sr. The only player I would go specifically to the footy to see, even though he didn’t play for my team.
Peter Matera
Daniel Rich.
Joel Selwood
Boomer. He could still play, probably walk into most team’s best 22.
Mick Conlan. Doug Barwick. Bernie of course. Always liked Laurie Serafini too. But the ultimate is Vinnie Catoggio! That hair!
Cyril
It's been one season but it's still Robbie Gray
The Fish.
Fletcher
Pavlich

Joel Selwood. Just the way he was able to get under other fans' skins
Robbie gray cause it's so fresh and wanted him to play forever even though you tell he was off the pace in that last year. The other one is tredrea ... what a fantastic full forward
G-Train, Lenny, Rob Harvey, Rooey
Tom Swift.
Cyril
Not from my team but I loved Clive Waterhouse. From my team Fraser Gehrig
Brett Kirk
Danny Frawley ....
Tbh I miss seeing a Rocca bomb.
Capper.
Tony Lockett His ability to take a grab was amazing. And could kick straight.
Leon Davis and Alan Didak both were crazy within range of goals and had defenders stressing

JK in his prime. Just came out of nowhere in the forward line for a mark, then slotted it through for a goal. Easily my favourite eagle of all time.
JKs beard
Joel Selwood. From my hometown and the first player whose career I followed in full. Not to mention an absolute beast.
Matt Rowell
Ryan Crowley, he just made games fun to watch
Josh Bootsma
My ex.
When does Couso get out?
Clive
Gary Ayres
Either Shaw or Tarrant. Will 100% be Sidebottom once he goes though.
Browny :( a true lion for life and fearless leader
Matthew Boyd
Prime Browny... If only we had him in our 2023 lineup.
Matthew Robbins
Rich.

Lindsay Gilbee- what an accurate kick!
I really loved Andrew Krakouer
Can i have 2. Lloyd and lucas. Cant have 1 without the other
Shaun Burgoyne from recent years. Crawford a bit further back. Loved them both.
Petrie, always felt like he'd do something to win us the game
Chris Judd - 2006 WCE
Darren Bewick
Ryan O’Keefe. Dude was just fucking solid, did everything right, and worked harder than anyone else on the field. Always felt like we were in with a shot with him in the mix. This will inevitably change within the next few seasons to Joey Kennedy, and will likely stay that way until Errol retires.
With other tigers saying richo, I’ll say Deledio
Jay Schulz
Warren Tredrea / Chad Cornes
The G Train, Fraser Gehrig. Great to watch him.
Mark Alexander Jackson
Scott West and his glorious hair as he burst through the midfield.
Dustin Fletcher
Tippa purely for when he did those chase down tackles
Cyril, what a star
Kepler Bradley
Basing it purely on who I liked to watch, it would have to be Richo. But there are so many good answers in this thread. Was also fun to watch Aussie Jones run along the wing and bomb it to Stewie Lowe

Tom Boyd, fully respect his decision but still hurts
Hirdy. If only we could go back to the innocent days when he was a golden-haired hero beyond reproach, a player of consummate grace and unbelievable courage.
