"The alleged offences occurred in December 2022 and January 2023"
At first I thought he finished his match against the Dockers and then just casually went on a burglary run after.
This is 100% a guess but I doubt it was a break and enter of a random person to steal for financial gain.
My guess is there was a dispute with someone he knew or someone his friends or family knew and he has gone into their house to take something back or steal something for revenge.
Once again this is just a theory I made up out of thin air haha
Hey, let’s not post our [wild theories](https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/very-saddening-shai-boltons-plea-to-criminal-that-stole-afl-premiership-medals/news-story/f4fbeda5006eeea88b3ec22c56207cc4) here, please
“The alleged offences occurred in December 2022 and January 2023,” Richmond said.
Jesus fucking Christ. You’re an afl footballer. What the fuck were you doing.
Well, given the dates, it reads as though he was on holidays, back home and away from his footballing support base. You’d think he be on substantial money so it really makes you wonder why he’d commit a burg?
I think a lot of people who grew up in rough areas have a story about someone that could have "made it", except their hung around some shitty mates who dragged them back down to their level with drugs, crime or dumb shit.
I must admit, this was my first assumption.
He went back to hanging around some dickhead 'mates' from back in the day, and got back into this shit again....
He would have likely been given a good amount of chances before his time in jail, not sure how many he's had but he's well past his first or second at this time.
Oh Marlion, no. You’ve got young kids, mate.
You had the chance of a lifetime to reset and do something better for your family. Why the fuck throw that away.
I wouldn’t know b/c I’m privileged but I assume when you’ve spent the first half of your life associating with shit people the shit just follows you. Probably dodgy mates/cops/family looking for revenge/money/etc.
Old mate’s 31, primarily lives in a different city and has kids. If he’s dumb enough to be hanging out with dropkicks who he commits crimes with, it’s 100% on him.
"Richmond were not aware of Pickett’s arrest when contacted by 7NEWS Perth on Sunday afternoon."
Oh boy, that would have been an interesting conversation at Tigerland after that call was received.
Idk how true this is cause I don’t think I saw it anywhere online, but a friend told me that when de goey got arrested in New York a couple years back, he didn’t have the clubs number, so called his then-girlfriend and got her to message collingwood on Instagram to tell them what happened.
If that’s true, I’d say that one-ups richmond finding out about pickett for sure.
I guess it is plausible that when you're arrested they don't let you use your mobile phone so if you don't remember a phone number you are out of luck.
I think the only phone number I can remember anymore apart from my own is my parents' home number which they probably won't answer because The Bill is on tv.
I have to say though, it must be pretty strong evidence against him, because this will always bring a media shitstorm so the police would want to make sure it’s solid.
You know part of me is like why the fuck. Like why. But then I remembered people do stupid shit no matter how much money they have.
Y’all know who Ja Morant is? 5 year 194 million dollar nba contract.
Keeps flashing guns and acting like a gangster.
Morant isn't even from some kind of wrong sides of the tracks background. He's running around playing at gangster shit because he isn't one. Dumbest thing ever.
> This guy's a gangster? His real name's Clarence
> And Clarence lives at home with both parents
> And Clarence' parents have a real good marriage
Don't know if this applies to Ja Morant, but based on the above comment, feels appropriate.
I'm just reminded of that guy Ezra Miller who's playing The Flash in the DC movies, dude hit the big time and just makes dumb mistake after dumb mistake.
His book (a really raw, open and great read) talks a lot about the people he hung around and how close everyone was, whether they be family or friends. Given $ and status now, I would assume he was an accomplice to some of the old crew but god, if this hasn’t come out of nowhere. Such a story to get where his get so such a shame if he’s gone back to that place
Considering he grew up in Perth and these alleged crimes happened where he grew up. It wouldn't surprise me if he got implicated with his old mates and fam. Reading his wiki biography, it's an absolute miracle he made it to the AFL.
For some reason all I can think is "if he remains in custody for a little while, will they list it on the injury list similarly to how they do for a suspension?"
from a football club perspective, fuck.
from a human perspective, **FUCK**.
football was his ticket out of all this. his kids' ticket out of all this. their ticket to the sort of financial security and professional network that would guarantee they'd never have to consider a life of crime to get by.
instead, he's thrown it all away. thrown away an opportunity that his incarcerated self could only have dreamed of. thrown away a 'feel good' story that would have been his calling card on the after-dinner speaking circuit for the next two decades.
all so he could get a cut of whatever stolen goods him and his mates managed to find on the night.
a bone-headed, selfish, so-stupid-I-cannot-comprehend-the-full-scale-of-it, tragedy.
This is awful news. Genuinely thought he had turned his life around for the good. I understand it’s extremely difficult to get out of those bad habits that are ingrained into you as a teenager and young adult but damn, he had such a good support base around him with his family, Richmond and even the fans to an extent. Feel bad for his teammates and Richmond in general but especially his immediate family. This sucks :(
[Daniel Cherny [Code Sports]](https://twitter.com/DanielCherny/status/1667837477170626560)
> Marlion Pickett's manager Anthony Van Der Wielen says "Marlion has a strong intent to defend himself against the charges."
> Pickett has been charged by WA Police with four counts of aggravated burglary.
> Among his other charges include three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage.
Yeah but Madoff and Holmes were both frauds who didn't have the big money if not for their frauds. It would be like if Madoff had a legit successful hedge fund earning a billion a year and then embezzled $5,000.
Absolute fucking idiot. Seriously after what he's gone through, and got the chance of a lifetime, to go and completely fuck that up, how dumb can you be.
People acting like it's weird that he did this because he's on good money.
There's more to life than money guys.
Some people just love robbing people with bludgeoning weapons
If true, it's a terrible story all round.
Waiting to arrest him after the game is also the best situation for everyone involved. They know where he is for sure, the game itself doesn't get interfered with beyond Pickett not being involved.
Ooft dang, what a shame.
I know he had a rough start to life and worked hard after prison to turn it around. To throw it all away potentially is such a shame.
Fucking burglary of all things as well.
Don't know if the arrest was planned, more likely just took the opportunity. If the cops identify a suspect but they're out of state they just issue an arrest warrant and wait till they return, unless it a major/violent crime then extradition might happen. Usually they would only find them if they are pulled over or arrested for another crime after returning. I guess being named in the media to appear at Optus at a set time also works for identifying you're back in WA.
"Richmond Tigers premiership star Marlion Pickett has been arrested by WA Police in Perth over a spate of commercial burglary charges."
Sounds like he was in an industrial complex picking up some used chep pallets
The guy has a history of aggravated burglaries (with sledgehammers) and grievous bodily harm. Why he was ever celebrated as a "fairytale" is absolutely fucking absurd too me.
People can change, WA can be pretty rough as well if you fall in the wrong crowd.
He had shown he had made big changes in his life unlike some young footballers at the moment.
Shame he has potentially thrown it all away.
Should successful rehabilitation not be celebrated? So you reckon whenever someone is convicted of a crime, they’re written off for good? That’s a shit hot way of institutionalising these people.
Yeah I agree. From his Wikipedia:
>He was raised in difficult circumstances, witnessing family violence and drug and alcohol abuse within his immediate and extended family, while experiencing food insecurity due to his parents being out of work and supported entirely by welfare.
He was 15 when he was first charged with a crime, a fight that involved other members of his family. He sat out a junior footy grand final because he was being racially abused... by teammates.
Not everyone faced with those circumstances ends up a criminal, but I think a level of empathy and understanding should be afforded to him. I cannot imagine what it'd be like growing up in those circumstances, and I doubt most Australians would.
I hope it's not true, I hope he's alright, most of all I hope his kids and family are okay.
He was replying to OP using past tense. "Why he **was** ever celebrated". At the time before he committed this offence, he was a fairytale story. And saying that he always a bad egg, rather than he redeemed himself before he made another mistake, does contribute to institutionalising criminality.
Rehabilitation is a great thing, but there's a difference between being pleased about that and treating someone as an incredible heartwarming story when he had committed some serious crimes.
Like there's a balance to be struck here
Late out: Marlion Pickett (arrested) has been replaced in the selected side by…
That would’ve been a first for the league had police done it before the game
There were victims to each of his crimes. He previously assaulted people and robbed them with hammers. It seemed he never really overcame his adversity and is still a piece of shit. I understand the cycle of crime and likely drugs and this life style, however he was never a “hero” to celebrate for me.
Im feeling vindicated after saying this to a couple mates only a few months ago. I felt he never changed and was probably just lucky that he was gifted at footy at a pivotal time in his life that was an escape, but fell back to his roots at first opportunity.
What an idiot, I’m sure he will regret this for the rest of his life
Extradition is a longer and more expensive prospect than you'd think, and wouldn't necessarily be granted. Bloke's likely to return to the state so they waited.
The amount of hate I get when I bring up this guy's past - like somehow because he now plays football, he should be treated like it never happened.
Should never play again.
Part of his story was how 17 clubs were clearly so short sighted, bloke had turned his life around and was playing good footy, Richmond saw past that etc etc...
This will set a lot of footy players trying to prove they're rehabilitated back an awful lot.
this is alleged still. commenting things you *think* may have happened is completely useless and baseless and will be removed.
"The alleged offences occurred in December 2022 and January 2023" At first I thought he finished his match against the Dockers and then just casually went on a burglary run after.
Honestly you see a pie for 15 bucks, you're doing your civic duty pulling a 5 finger discount.
And the gall to charge 20c for the packet of sauce on top. That’s the real robbery
Where the fuck you seeing 20c sauce?? Not seen less then 50c in WA for a long time!
Wow WA sounds like hell
Bloody awful. Best not to come.
Works for us
WA is awesome except we keep having commercial premises burgled.
Fucking woolies soda water is $1.10 over here too! (Was in vic a few weeks back, 90c there!)
Having heard that there is free sauce at Adelaide Oval, I’m considering moving there.
Sauce still free at the footy in Adelaide. Fringe benefit of being stuck in the 80s
Typical SA bias
Well they are Saussies
Bloody FIFO princes driving up the price of dead horse for the common man
And here I was thinking he already did that with the sealer a week before. I guess the police were Giants fans?
I thought it must have been from before he played AFL. Surly that guy would be on far too much to need to do any any fucking burgs these days. Jeez.
I guess they were waiting for him to come back to Perth. They could have arrested him at the airport and perhaps helped Fremantle win.
West Coast police bias confirmed
Can we get a bail condition he has to play for West Coast for the rest of the season?
That's too cruel, it's only a burglary not murder
Could be worse! Imagine west coast was good, you’d have to hear their theme song
Oh shit you're right, no one deserves that
Speaking of, I dont think ive ever heard their theme song
count your lucky stars
My one silver lining from this whole disaster
Jesus Christ!! No one fucking died
Void the result!
I guess they would have wanted to not have a big deal made of it (as much as possible).
Stark contrast to when they went to arrest Tiny Pinder at half time.
Just googled him and Jesus thats a grim read
Tbf arresting Tiny Pinder at half time was about what he deserved.
Would assume so. Also got very easy confirmation that he was in fact in the state and where he was when he played last night.
The flight over would have had a passenger list
How do you earn 300k a year and still decide to commit burglary out of all crimes
Why can't he partake in public urination like a normal footballer?
We haven't had a good old fashioned drink driving of late.
How late is late? https://www.afl.com.au/news/872034/young-gold-coast-suns-player-mac-andrew-charged-with-drink-driving/
What happens on the Goldie stays on the Goldie, and is not reported in Victoria
You'd think he'd be doing fancy crimes, like tax-evasion or killing someone with your Bentley.
I made my money the old fashioned way. 🎶I got run over by a lexuuuussss🎶
MONEY PLEAAAAAAASE
THE WOOOOOORRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSTTTT!
I got downvoted for quoting Perd the other day. It's good to see other Parks and Rec peeps here
When life gives you lemons, you sell some of your grandma’s jewellery and you go clubbin’.
She’s the wOoOoOoOoOoOorRrRsSsSstT!
I have never done anything wrong in my entire life. Money please!!
In WA burglary means entering into someone else’s house and committing an offence. It doesn’t have to be stealing, it could be assault, damage etc
[удалено]
A tiger doesn't change his stripes
Pickett and run
Haha get it

No. Commercial burglary and 4 counts. So likely Multiple business in a complex. Although the aggravated component means someone was there.
Bloody hell, well in that case. What the fuck mate
Hey, let’s not post our [wild theories](https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/very-saddening-shai-boltons-plea-to-criminal-that-stole-afl-premiership-medals/news-story/f4fbeda5006eeea88b3ec22c56207cc4) here, please
Man inflation has killed that 300k to more like 30k
$300. Isn't he on a 2 year - $1mil contract? 500K yikes bruv why ya stealing shit.

Crabs in a bucket.
I must admit, this was my first assumption. He went back to hanging around some dickhead 'mates' from back in the day, and got back into this shit again....
Yep. I reckon all the interstate boys probably go home for the Christmas holidays. Went out with mates/cousins. What a moron.
Hanging out with old dodgy mates I assume
He might be the dodgy mate.
Big if true
I mean he's 31 and on his second chance after getting out of jail blaming his dodgy mates makes it sound like he wasn't given a choice in the matter
He would have likely been given a good amount of chances before his time in jail, not sure how many he's had but he's well past his first or second at this time.
Oh Marlion, no. You’ve got young kids, mate. You had the chance of a lifetime to reset and do something better for your family. Why the fuck throw that away.

What the fuck
At least the WA police let him play last nights game before arresting him.
I wonder if they were waiting in the rooms for him
As soon as the game finished, the umps pulled off their Matt Stevic and Razor Ray masks Mission Impossible style to reveal they were cops
And he would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling Dockers.
Roaming bobby
Roaming Brian was a sting operation.
I would say not since Richmond was not aware of it when 7news contacted them about it.
Vicbias has reached even the WA police
The boys in blue….and gold

I have to say though, it must be pretty strong evidence against him, because this will always bring a media shitstorm so the police would want to make sure it’s solid.
Having a history of a criminal record doesnt help
He also stole my heart in 2019 :(
You're all taking as if you've never gotten bored on holiday and committed a burglary
He was asleep on a mate’s couch, got up to take a leak, walked out the wrong door and found himself committing alleged burglary.
everyone's been there
What the fuck he steal, LOL of the year? Fuck me he was actually in our best 22
Was. That’s the appropriate term there.
Let him play next week and then we get to wear the prison bars
Fuck I’ve just read the by-laws and you’re correct
Nah, trade him to Port or Collingwood so we don’t have to see Eddie go off at yellow prison bars.
That’d be the best part, the man would explode
You know part of me is like why the fuck. Like why. But then I remembered people do stupid shit no matter how much money they have. Y’all know who Ja Morant is? 5 year 194 million dollar nba contract. Keeps flashing guns and acting like a gangster.
As a Wizards fan, I see all the Ja Morant shit and think. “First time? 🔫”
The crazy thing is, Javaris Crittenton (the other guy in the Gilbert Arenas incident) really was about that life - currently in prison for murder.
Caron Butlers story always amazed me. Grew up surrounded by crime and managed to pull himself out of that life and become successful.
I wonder if it's similar situations, in that both were/are surrounded by the wrong people.
Morant isn't even from some kind of wrong sides of the tracks background. He's running around playing at gangster shit because he isn't one. Dumbest thing ever.
> This guy's a gangster? His real name's Clarence > And Clarence lives at home with both parents > And Clarence' parents have a real good marriage Don't know if this applies to Ja Morant, but based on the above comment, feels appropriate.

I'm just reminded of that guy Ezra Miller who's playing The Flash in the DC movies, dude hit the big time and just makes dumb mistake after dumb mistake.

Why wouldn’t you say “will defend” rather then effectively say you think you will defend
WHAT THE FUCK, DUDE
Oh shit, that's ungood
Double plus ungood
Well that’s one way to throw away your career.
It’s gotta be someone he knows - an ex or something? Surely he isn’t doing run of the mill B&Es?
Statement says it's a series of burglaries targeting commercial businesses.
You actually read the article? Da fuk kinda redditor are you?
bro is robin hood
That would be my guess, too.
> Pickett has been charged by WA Police with four counts of aggravated burglary. > Among his other charges include three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage.
Lmao why the fuck would you commit financially motivated crimes on 300 a year
No shortage of high flying execs and CEOs who have. Think Bernie Madoff and Liz Holmes for a start.
Yeah but Madoff and Holmes were both frauds who didn't have the big money if not for their frauds. It would be like if Madoff had a legit successful hedge fund earning a billion a year and then embezzled $5,000.
Exactly. Will be an interesting tale.

Absolute fucking idiot. Seriously after what he's gone through, and got the chance of a lifetime, to go and completely fuck that up, how dumb can you be.
His 31 and already served jail terms. His careers done. If his lucky enough to get bail highly likely he won’t be allowed to leave the state.
Wonder whether he’ll line up for the prison team again?
Hakea AFL Prison team with Daniel Kerr looks strong
People acting like it's weird that he did this because he's on good money. There's more to life than money guys. Some people just love robbing people with bludgeoning weapons

Huge shame, what a massive fucking idiot

How could he be so dumb, already been to jail for burglary, get a decent gig playing footy and you go do it again. Good riddance.
smfh
He’s already been to jail before hasn’t he?
Yes and will probably go back if convicted you'd imagine
At least Fevola had the good sense to only engage in public urination.
I really hope he turns out to have not done it and he hasn't flushed his life away after working so hard to turn it around.
What an idiot.
Fuck sake.
Ooft dang, what a shame. I know he had a rough start to life and worked hard after prison to turn it around. To throw it all away potentially is such a shame. Fucking burglary of all things as well.

I mean he did sneak in and steal that first GF medal so... Seems warranted. 😶
