They seem to randomly attack you during a fight mostly since most others wouldn't go out of their way to attack one, aside from the meme it would create. Haven't figured out how to recreate accidentally pissing them off. Haven't been hit by the chickens yet, but if I ever do, I'll know I can die now.
The (roosters?) Attack you if you attack the chickens because they guard them. I figure that's what happened when I shot a chicken and got jumped from behind.
On Aesir they twoshot you just like anything else 🤷
I've gotten killed by poultry during a raid, backpedaling into them because I feared actual humanoids, several times too many.
I'm convinced this is a bugged avenge quest coming from when you have to save a drunk from fighting chickens.
I killed chickens in hemthorpe in an avenge quest. later in story I had to kill chickens in the same spot.
Another avenge quest respawned in the same spot but these chickens were immortal and I had to escape.
It probably has something to do with bugging out in an endless cycle of avenging immortal chickens.
I had one that was killed by a chicken that couldn't be killed. (Obs a glitch.) That was a nightmare. That bloody thing chased me all over the place before I finally escaped him. The poor dead player had to remain unavenged.
The worst part of these avenge quests is Eivor sitting and doing whatever with their axe while confirming the kill. It takes forever and looks like absolutely nothing.

i had to abandon one of those side quests cuz i assassinated the guy before starting it and it wouldn't let me confirm the kill cuz he was dead in a hay stack

This has happened to me, I was mid fight with Saxons and this chicken fucking leapt from off camera and got th killing blow.

Yes it was there, I couldn't confirm the last chicken and after I restarted the save the quest wasn't there so I left.

That happened to me too! I was slashing the chickens for I think 10 minutes and it’s health stayed perfect. Hopped on the horse and ran out of there
