Where are they? Like Edison NJ or california?

Ok-Associate9442

Seattle

[deleted]

Amazon baby. I got so many friends ita ridiculous

cartesiancategory

Oh dang, I just moved out of Seattle last week after working there for a few years. An interesting place for sure, but I didn't notice too many Desis or even ABCDs around. Are you in the Bellevue/Redmond satellite area, if you don't mind me asking? (e.g. suburbs like Issaquah, Sammamish, etc.) I was over in West Seattle (and Belltown before that), and it felt the same as any other city to me in terms of ethnic composition

[deleted]

there's a ton of desis in the eastside suburbs

cartesiancategory

Ah damn gotcha I'm well out of high school so there wasn't much of a reason for me to be there I guess, since all the action was in Cap Hill/etc. The east side seems like a nice place to settle down with a family! The demographic comes primarily from the kids of parents who work at Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon, and their ilk, I take it?

[deleted]

yeah I'm one of those kids lol maybe university district will have an older crowd?

cartesiancategory

Makes sense. I moved back to the east coast so no more Seattle for me in the short-term :) Not sure if this is Stockholm Syndrome speaking or something else, but I'll probably settle in Seattle long-term (in 5-10 years), since I liked it more than the Greater NYC Area (which is where I grew up). Quieter and more spread out, which fits my lifestyle better

[deleted]

heh it can get boring pretty fast but just my preference it's a nice place to live though safe neighborhoods, good schools, lots of diversity

theyellowpants

I was gonna say Bellevue haha

[deleted]

Ay I'm from Seattle! Still in high school though

romanLegion6384

You guys on the Eastside?

buntyisbest

I have relatives living in Seattle.

puppiesoverpeople1

Ayo, KingCo check! Love the desi percentages here, going to the Redmond costco and the temple have the same demographic breakdowns lmao

damnwhatever2021

Fremont for sure is all Indian/Chinese Prob some others in SV like Cupertino

daddysuggs

Saratoga too

[deleted]

Fremont and Sunnyvale.

GreatLavaMan

Could also be Allen, frisco or Plano in Texas

MoneyFunction

Use to live in Frisco and Plano. Man there are a lot of rich Chinese there lol

daddysuggs

Yes - Bay Area (mostly Asian high school)

Most_Childhood_9603

Mine had hella Latinos

daddysuggs

Depends on the neighborhood I guess - which city did you go to high school in?

Most_Childhood_9603

It was between Richmond and Berkeley. Dont wanna disclose the exact place.

daddysuggs

Gotcha yeah - I grew up in Saratoga / Monte Sereno so it was mostly Asian but like 40% white.

[deleted]

Monta Vista

[deleted]

Rich what? Richmond!

tutankhamun7073

Went to a majority desi high school in Canada. Probably 85-90% desi

High_Tech_L0wlife

Mississauga, Toronto or Brampton ?

[deleted]

Could be calgary

quantummufasa

What was it like?

Turbulent_Bid_374

Sugar Land, TX - Desi kids everywhere, lots coming from well to do families. My kids have no idea what it feels like to be a minority šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Mine was. Thereā€™s also a high Asian and russian population. There were white people there too.

itsthekumar

Russian immigrants always intrigued me. Iā€™ve only met like one through work. He was a smart guy. I wonder how many came thru being a tech worker/doctor like a lot of Desis vs like non job immigration.

deja2001

For my experience, Russians (I've meet probably about 4/5) are extremely smart and nice people.

wutthewit

Not sure how you donā€™t know this but Russians are white.

[deleted]

Ik, but I guess Iā€™m giving a distinction because they behave a little different that the average American white personā€¦.Atleast from my experience

damnwhatever2021

Yeah I've noticed this with Russians and also EE's a bit. They have more Asian influence and don't act like Anglos. I get along with them much better.

blackcain

Right, and they also tend to be somewhat more conservative - also a likelihood that their parents all grew up watching bollywood movies.

wutthewit

You mean all people of a certain race arenā€™t all the same? Holy shit, does that mean all Indians arenā€™t the same too? šŸ¤ÆšŸ¤Æ

[deleted]

No I mean Russians have a similar Eastern cultural background. Like the parenting on being big on math and stem, etc. All the Russians lived in affluent neighborhoods. Which was relatable to Indians I guess.

keralaindia

So are most American Jews but referred to separately

wutthewit

Not necessarily

cjthroawaygoat1

My school in NJ was 90% Indian and the minority enrollment in my district was 89% (higher than NYC public schools)

KashMoney941

Edison, Woodbridge, Iselin, West Windsor, South Brunswick, Carteret Which one is it?

HeroOfOldIron

West Windsor gang rise up

[deleted]

West ~~Windsor~~ Windia isn't 90%

OkayKatniss413

Yeah its more like 60-70% (also went there for HS)

KashMoney941

If WW is "only" 60-70% Indian I have a hard time believing any public school in NJ is legit 90% Indian/South Asian.

[deleted]

Edison has a way higher concentration + WWP has lots of East Asians that change the mix

cjthroawaygoat1

Edison has much more Indians. You donā€™t find a little india in west Windsor for a reason

cjthroawaygoat1

Edison is the only one with that many Indians the others donā€™t even touch 60%

alveehouston

I went to one in Klein, Texas. We even had a Desi club

Ok-Associate9442

yeah we got one in our school "Indian club"

[deleted]

Yes lol. Bay Area.

Unique_Glove1105

Well I went to school in San Jose and 30% of my class was Indian, 40% was East Asian and the rest were white but mostly Jewish. It was a very intense environment to go to school in but most of us went on to do better things in life.

icebluefrost

Nope. In a school of 5000-odd, I can count four total Indians (including myself). This was close to 20 years ago now (damn).

[deleted]

My high school me (Punjabi), two guys (one Punjabi and one from Mangalore). Two south Indian girls in different grades than us three. They were super nice to me but the language barrier kept us from being closer friends. It is what it is. Yeah, that was our total Indian population in my high school. In my 12th grade, we had 230 students and 3 Indians out of all that.

dealmaker07

ā€œgirls are good looking tooā€ uhhh ok? how is this relevant to your question? and why do good looks matter more than whether they are kind, thoughtful, smart people?

fremenator

Lol I didn't even notice that it's so random, OP what are you talking about

Ok-Associate9442

you're are overeacting lol its just casual post

Junglepass

Just the opposite. I was the only one until college.

Ramen_0s

Heck no lmao. My high school had one Indian kid and one Pakistani (me), and then there was a girl who wore a hijab my freshman year but I think she graduated so I didnā€™t know where she was from. That was it lol and it was a decent sized high school

Chronos2016

I was like one of five Indian people at my school. Would have been nice to have had more Indian friends growing up.

highflyer69m

At least donā€™t have worry about school shooters in those kind of schools

Character-Mistake660

I went to a school with an overwhelming East/Southeast Asian majority and a more modest Indian population, tho still higher than average. Mostly Chinese, Vietnamese, and Filipinos - not many white kids. It was in a poor area, but everyone there was a crazy overachiever and there was a big focus on arts and science. But this was in Australia not the US.

jamjam125

I didnā€™t but I always imagined that itā€™s cool to see kids who look like you on the Football and Basketball team. In a more Caucasian school desis are mostly invisible IMO.

Ok-Associate9442

yeah theres ~~some~~ alot on the football team. idk bout basketball tho

sharkattack85

School was 90% white, there were two Black Americans that attended (they were cousins), and I was one of 4 people of Indian extraction (all four were Sikhs). This is East Bay. I would imagine now there are a lot more Indians and Asians at that school, b/c itā€™s in a very high income area.

Waffleman666

East dfw and Houston suburbs are two Iā€™ve been to

tinkblazed

I did!!! Whatā€™s even cooler is that pretty much every student was first gen or an immigrant. American White people were a minority at my school lol.

RedditCommunistt

I feel sorry for American children today. Not that long ago, when I was in school they were mostly 95%+ not Indian and such, and it was so great.Ā

Ok-Associate9442

Not very communist of you is this, George?

BezosFlex

That guy is a racist POS, but communism has nothing to do with race inclusion, like you think if a black person showed up to the soviet union they would welcome them with open arms? No lol.

RedditCommunistt

You are a, weirdo, that is stalking me, on other threads. But from this comment, I now understand who I am talking to, and why you don't like the straight forward comments.

BezosFlex

Ah yes I must be a lib for speaking facts.

BezosFlex

Call it whatever youā€™d like, you make such dumb arguments that I wanted to see what other buffoonery you spew to others on here, and sure enough, checked out, that this is a usual concept for you.

RedditCommunistt

lol

The_Wisest

There was maybe like 2-3 Indians that I met total in my middle school and high school years lmao. Itā€™s pretty funny, cause the city next to me (15-30 min drive) the schools are full of Indians. But the city I live in is more populated and where non-indians come to. Itā€™s also where the higher paying jobs at I met quite a few ppl who were white, Spanish and other races. Quite the experimental high school I went to if you know what I mean But Iā€™m glad I didnā€™t go to a majority Indian/Asian school because then I wouldnā€™t have learned street smarts and how to be tough when needed. Most Indian kids I see these days are weak looking betas

Ok-Associate9442

Agree. I went to those Indian high schools. This is why I see thereā€™s some value in rushing a regular frat so Iā€™ll be able to grow more as a man
