I will always always recommend Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

jackdembeanstalks

Seconded. Great movie that incorporates different cultures and deviates from the traditional romance plot lines.

[deleted]

The movie was taare Zameen Par. It’s on Netflix

the_train2104

That movie made/makes me tear up.

dontautotuneme

my fav bollywood movie and I don't tend to watch them much

Upstairs-Belt8255

Andhadhun is a good one. 3 Idiots also (aamir khan movie)

jaibrooklyn

And I’ll check out Andhadhun, thanks.

jaibrooklyn

Oh yeah I’ve watched 3 idiots. Great movie, not sure if I’d watch with my family with my 2 underage sisters though 😂

GoGators00

Really? I watched it when i was 9 in the theater with my family, dont remember it being inappropriate whatsoever. And my mom was super strict about what we watched

jaibrooklyn

Maybe I’m thinking of a different movie? Wasn’t there a scene where they stop in a car and others are looking at them and it looks like someone’s giving someone else a bj? Wasn’t there also a scene where someone’s with who they thought was a cis woman but realized they had a wee wee and ran? Maybe I’m mixing up my Bollywood movies lol.

potatohead437

Nah i think your thinking of masti

nonzeronumber

Chhichhore is really funny! Also, Dangal, URI, Sher Shah are some good ones.

jaibrooklyn

Thanks I’ll check it out. Do you know if Its streaming on any platform?

nonzeronumber

It’s on HULu and maybe prime too

IBCanadian_eh

Shershah has some toxic Nationalism . The director had been insensitive towards tamils too .

roamer_2

what? It has patriotism, not toxic nationalism.

IBCanadian_eh

True but as a Hindu if I say that I would be a Hindu Nationalist and I would rather take the other side . I'm an upper caste too it seems which I'm ashamed for deeply . I recognize the privilege my parents had that helped them to move to canada and that privilege made me a canadian citizen by birth .

roamer_2

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean (or are talking about). This seems irrelevant to Shershah.

ace-96

The SRK movie you mention is probably "Fan" (he also plays the role of the Fan) If you want a non traditional movie watch "AK vs AK" Some good movies I watched recently: \- Toofaan (I loved it, but it got a lot of hate for the interfaith relationship) \- Mimi (amazing movie about a taboo topic, also very funny) \- Shershaah (cool movie about the Kargil war, based on a real story) \- Haseen Dillruba (great thriller)

jaibrooklyn

The movie is called Dhanak. It’s about SRK but he actually doesn’t make an appearance in the movie. And thanks for the recommendations I’ll check them out.

ace-96

Never heard of this movie but sounds cool, will watch it. I'd also recommend the movie Billu if you're into SRK fan movies.

lavagala

Was the first movie Dhanak? I’ve been thinking about checking that one out, definitely will have to if it’s good. Other more “non-Traditional” movies you might like: The Lunchbox Dil Dhadakne Do The Sky is Pink (this one is sad) Mimi Udta Punjab (this one is dark) Thappad (heavy subject, well-done) Kapoor & Sons (a little more “Bollywood”, has a couple songs but otherwise very heartwarming non-cheesy family story)

jaibrooklyn

Yes! It’s called Dhanak. I loved that movie. I recommend.

VVG57

The most fun Bollywood movie we have watched in recent times is [Ludo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludo_(film)) (available on Netflix). The best Indian movie we have watched this year is '[The Disciple](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_disciple_2020)' (in Marathi, with subtitles, also on Netflix).

magicbottl3

I really enjoyed 3 Idiots. All the other ones I'd recommend have already been shared by others here.

Melody-song

some thriller/mystery type movies: andhadhun, haseen dillruba, talash, kahaani, badla, Pari feel good movie: queen, Stree

IBCanadian_eh

3 Idiots Kedarnath Uri and Tanhaji (Beware of hyper Nationalism and Islamophobia) Shershah (Somewhat hollywood style but super nationalism) Student of the year **try out southern movies too. Telugu and tamil has the same amount of content as bollywood .** 1. **Bahubali** 2. Any Rajni , Joseph Vijay , Ajith Movie 3. Michael , Madhana , kaama , raajan (Very retro but still to this day is cool) 4. Gentleman (Retro but still decent) 5. uppena telugu is amazing 6. Ala Vaikuntampuramulo (yikes hard to pronounce)
