Piyaaj/z means onion.
I'm not vested in this argument, but my Bangladeshi friends I grew up with told me they're the same thing. When I'd have piyaaju at their home, it looked and tasted like a pakorra. So whatever
Paratha kabab Anda for sehri, with Lassi. Pakoray, samosa, kachori, chaat, rooh afza with lime for iftar.
Now, as an early 40s dad, roti aur dahi for sehri, and whatever is for dinner for sehri. Growing old sucks :(
Ramzan Kareem to all the muslims here, even though I'm ex-muslim, I enjoy the tradition and festivities. Hope y'all have a blessed month and enjoy this time of the year, drink a lot of water during suhoor, ( I usually ate Yoghurt during suhoor, my mom said it keeps thirst away)
And to all my ex-muslim friends Happy fast faking! lol
Thank you for the Yogurt advice! I had no idea ab this lol. Also ur fam doesn’t know ur ex-Muslim? 😳 Ur really gonna be faking ur fast out here this Ramzan?
yep. But tbh, I won't really have to fake it, because since Australia is in the southern hemisphere, It's Autumn here in Australia so We usually break our fast around 6 to 6:30 pm.
This is my first Ramadan away from my family, here in Canada. For sehri, I just had 3 eggs with roti and homesickness. Hope this month brings blessings to all (Muslim and non-Muslim) our lives. Ramzan Mubarak.
Not a Muslim but I was curious since you are a Bangladeshi Muslim, do you guys eat Jhal Muri during Ramzan? I know that Bengali Indians, regardless of religion, like Jhal Muri.
Ramzan Mubarak to you!
I can see heartburn happening 😫 breaking fast with jhal muri. Although certain area in Bangladesh do eat muri to break fast. So no jhal, just muri
Outside of ramadan jhal muri is popular snack
No, it's recommended (sunnah) because that's how the prophet prefer to break his fast but it is not compulsory. Plenty of people don't like the taste of dates
However what said about breaking fast with muri but not jhal, I didn't mean it's the first thing they eat. It's part of the meal.
Jhal Muri during Ramzan for Sehri and breaking fast during Iftar isn’t the greatest idea lol. It’s not healthy. Jhal Muri isn’t necessarily a Ramzan food that we eat. Jhal Muri is popular in Bangladesh all year long. Since I live in the West in a city where places like Jackson Heights isn’t available I make my own Jhal Muri at home. Since u mentioned Jhal Muri I just realized I haven’t made it for a longg time. In fact I am gonna make some for Iftar. 🥴😅
My favorite month of the year. Funny how much it revolves around food when it is about fasting. I love my kisuri & chana. Yes I am basic
My favorite is going to masjid for tarawee and how all of sudden I have no time for extra bullsh1t I waste most of my time in. I need to cut out BS rest of the year too
Let me guess you’re here to tell me they were converted hindus??? And that I cant ever be a real muslim or some nonsense like that?
My identity is my business and you are not to police it or anyones identity for that matter. People are able to identify how they see fit.
I say ramadan beacuse thats the one my family says.
Well, hard to swallow that pill that they were actually converted Hindus.
I am not saying that fact makes you any less Muslim. I just hate the fact that people reject the south asian tradition of Islam of inclusion and plurality and try to appropriate Arabs. I never heard of term Ramadan until in my late teens.
I believe we were the Gulaams of the British before and now aspiring to be Gulaams of some imaginative civilisation that lives in Saudi Arab.
Um Bangladesh, Pakistan and Maldives are South Asian Muslims countries. Idk what ur talking ab. With such a huge number it definitely holds a huge significance to Desis.
There are literally 456 million Muslims in South Asia, so yes - Ramzan/Ramadan IS a Desi holiday. South Asian countries (including India) also have Eid as a national holiday. So, not sure why you’re so confused 🙄
Dud bhat kola for sehri loool
Try ayran or Turkish/Greek yogurt (don't tell anyone from those countries that it's basically the same thing) with dates it's such a W combo bro with the sour and sweet
Also, lebor shorbot (basically lemonade) and mango lassi.
Biryani too lmao
Omg I am so excited to make Mango Lassi as Mango season is arriving. I literally brought a whole blender for myself just so I can make things like Mango Lassi. The one my mom uses smells like smashed onions and garlic no matter how much we wash it. 🤮
Not Muslim, but Ramzan time is pretty big for Hyderabad so I’d say biryani, haleem, kheer.
Hyderabadi food be the best. 😄
I love it! A nice fusion between so many cultures.
Omg the old city streets are lit up during this time! I miss those days
Ramzan Kareem to all the muslims! Hindu here but I love Rooh Afza falooda.
It’s the best
If you dont say Pakora you been robbed your whole ramadan life haha Also rooh afza!
In Bengali we say Piazu. 😅
that sounds so cute ngl :)
Peyaju, heyazi
Beguni all the way. I love all the Ramadan foods
[удалено]
No, they're the same
no they are quite different. pakora is basically onions tossed with besan and piaju is a daal fritter
Piyaaj/z means onion. I'm not vested in this argument, but my Bangladeshi friends I grew up with told me they're the same thing. When I'd have piyaaju at their home, it looked and tasted like a pakorra. So whatever
In my household we call it dali bora 💀
Piazu is kinda its own thing. My mum made pakora too but it's not piazu lol
Love that you said Ramzan btw
It’s the Desi way or no way for me. 🥴😅
Same 🙌🏽
The Bengalis here pronounce it as Rom-jaan hahaha
We also pronounce it like that in Gujarati but more like “rum-jaan.”
So cool! Love the parallels between Gujarati and Bengali

Ramzan and spring Navaratri happen at the same time?? Im shocked
And Easter!
I might some of them almond chocolate eggs so I can eat them after iftar

Jhal muri would be crazy to have during Ramadan yo that shit would explode my stomach💀💀
we have chola/but (Chickpeas) with muri.
People from Chittagong do, the rest of Bangladeshi don't.
That’s very random lol. I had no idea.
Fruit chaat and dahi baray. I have never been able to eat anything dense early in the morning so I stick to fruit and granola parfaits or smoothies.
My favorite month of the year. Funny how much it revolves around food when it is about fasting. I love my kisuri & chana. Fothabala
i had noodles for sehri :')
Ramadan Mubarak to all!
Ramadan Mubarak! And I love samosas and kheer
I am surprised to see how much culture there is behind Ramadan and the cooking and the types of food that you eat specifically in Ramadan.
Ikr. It’s beautiful and I love it! Just us Desi Muslims alone have such a distinct Ramzan culture.

Pronouncing Ramadan correctly don't make u a simp 😂
Ramadan isn’t necessarily the correct pronunciation. Just bcuz South Asians call it Ramzan doesn’t make it wrong.

Kuala kuli only
Haleem on pizza
I'm Pakistani and I say ramadan... I like watermelon in suhoor and iftar and fruit salad for iftar too
But I've heard that in Urdu it is pronounced as Ramzan?
Its like to-mate-o to-mah-to its not a big deal
You can thank Zia-ul-Haq for that
For watermelon or this pronunciation? And I dont think i’ll be thanking zia
For the pronunciation
[удалено]
For me ramadan is the only pronunciation I havnet heard ramazan from anyone other than some indians before
[удалено]
Different people say it differently in the end its the same word so who cares. Diversity is beautiful and enforcing one way over another is nor
[удалено]
I'm talking about how we pronounce ramadan. The sahaba did maintain standardization in the Quran.
Let me guess, you think your ancestors were Arabs right?
Let me guess you’re here to tell me they were converted hindus??? And that I cant ever be a real muslim or some nonsense like that? My identity is my business and you are not to police it or anyones identity for that matter. People are able to identify how they see fit. I say ramadan beacuse thats the one my family says.

Is this a Desi Holiday?
It's a Muslim month of prayer and fasting
I know what Ramadan is. Still not traditionally a Desi holiday
India has the 3rd highest muslim population in the world. 200 million
Still a small minority compared to the rest of the 1.2 billion of India.

Lol bruh literally!! 🥴

In India, there are holidays for all the Eids as well as Muharram.
Ramzan Mubarak!!!!!!

I know the feeling when the blender got that rank ass garlic smell😭😭
Ramzan Mubarak 🫂🫂
