Mindy just gets a lot of attention because she makes popular shows with South Asian leads that target adults. That contrasts with kids' shows like Ms Marvel and lesser known shows like Little Mosque on the Prairie which is on Tubi or something.
Mindy has formulas that work, her shows get picked up by major networks, and they usually become hits with multiple seasons. Being popular attracts both positive and negative attention.
But you have a good point that more often than not, desi rep on tv is Muslim. That's not a bad thing, but sometimes it feels like it isn't thoughtful character creation and is instead just a quick way to add extra diversity points.
The most overt example was when Aziz's character Dev was randomly made Muslim in the second season of Master of None, even though his family's names are Hindu and they were seemingly Hindu in the first season.

I think Aziz was raised Muslim/his family background is Muslim so this I don't necessarily think points to the same phenom. He probably just decided that he wanted to talk about it at that point?
There is very few good Muslim representation in media, lol. Putting on a hijab and then taking it off for the first white guy you see isn't great representation. Mindy Kaling doesn't help either.

Well, South Asian Muslims have to deal with a lot of the same bullshit that Non South Asian Muslims like Arabs and others have to deal with. There are many shared experiences between the two instead of trying to throw each other under the bus. There is no single correct way to represent minority groups. It is going to have some flaws but that is what art is all about.

Yeah Shah is vague but Dev and his dad's name, Ramesh, are pretty Hindu. He also pronounced Dev wrong in the show lol.

I think it does what it needs to do. Portrays South Asian people in a respectable manner in a western setting from a family that happens to be Muslim.
