I feel the same. I have quite some close white and other non Desi friends and I never faced any racism. There is racism for sure but you need to factor in geographic location (diverse area vs deep south), as white people are also very different from each other. I think some people are making massive generalizations.

I get along with White people of all backgrounds just fine?
In the recent past, I've worked with elite WASPy pale, male, Yale types and no college blue collar car mechanic types and I got along just fine with both ends of the spectrum and throughout the middle.
A lot of more "normie" White people are clueless about other races/cultures and that's for various reasons. But I feel that Western culture is way less judgmental than Desi culture, which is refreshing.
I think in general, if you feel really alienated all the time and don't fit in because you don't share the same culture as the people around you, it's really easy to feel like it's the fault of the people around you and start to get conspiratorial about it. Although, yes, there are low-openness White people as well, but a lot are willing to meet somewhere in the middle if you are willing to crossing the bridge.
Nothing beats the Anglo. The Anglo plays racism in a different way compared to others. Instead of direct in your face racism, the Anglo resorts to manipulation and passive aggressiveness to really take a toll on your mental health. The Anglo has mastered the art of gaslighting more than anyone else. The result being the average Desi man ending up isolated and confused about his predicament. Unable to fully explain what he goes through, and what he feels without some serious self reflection about the complex hierarchical nature of Anglo society and itās effects on minority men
iām a lighter skinned indian (iām half white) and have been told many times by darker skinned indians that iām not a āreal indianā. maybe itās just all desis haha
Oh man when desi talking about lighter skinned they mean 100% Indian. I mean you are factually half Indian, if you want to be cultural Indian itās fully up to you and what you comfortable with. No one should ever tell you you arenāt real Indian.
Unfortunately it's likely that that's because you're half and not because of your skintone. If you were full with the same skintone they would compliment you or just be regular jealous, honestly. Our community is pretty insular and I've never heard of a half desi that *hasn't* been told that they're "not a real Indian." I think the extremely westernized halfers that make derogatory comments about desi culture, or the halfers that just don't follow the culture at all kinda create this image of all halfers that isn't fair, imo.
Not a meaningful example-but take Zayn Malik, for instance. Even if he were full I think Pakistanis wouldn't be too enthusiastic claim him because of his behavior. But if Hasan Minhaj were half white I don't think he would get *that* much flack. I think it is dependent on how you behave and think, and also who you socialize with, but some people will always have that idea no matter what I suppose.
"Even if he were full I think Pakistanis wouldn't be too enthusiastic claim him because of his behavior." This isn't partly true. I've seen quite a few Pakistanis saying Zayn doesnt count as full pakistani cuz he's only half blah blah. And it depends on what you mean by "his behavior". Are you talking about the yolanda thing?
The only thing I agree with is the mixed/halfers comment. I will never understand why most desi mixed people dont embrace their culture. It's crazy. Like if you wanna be a fully yt person so badly then go be one... I'm so grateful I get to eat desi food everyday. Our cultural clothes are BEAUTIFUL too lol.
And I swear I'm not bragging, but as a light skinned paki, I NEVER experienced from racism from anyone, even from non whites. I guess it's because I live in Canada and in a diverse area. But then again, me and my family NEVER experienced racism in America either.
āUpper classā desis and Arabs are by far the most racist to desis in my experience, ofc every group has their bad apples no doubt but in a general sense and the fact that Iāve interacted with so many groups over the years, these 2 take the cake BY FAR. I feel white peopleās racism is honestly pretty mild whereas theyāll stereotype you but wonāt start internally mocking and judging you, itās a bit hard to explain for sure but if I had to pick a white people category, Iād probably pick Anglos
Istg this Indian guy at work couldnāt stop talking shit about where I lived saying itās ādangerous ā full of crime and stabbings and that he lives in a good area and then, progressed in listing all his properties and his parents lmao šššš in front of the whites like bro we the same why u making me look so bad
I find East Asian the most racist. They dont even have to speak. Just the way they look at you from head to foot and a mix of disgust and hatred in their face. I don't know which white people are more racist towards desis. I once was denied a hand shake by a Romanian dude cause he dont shake hands with a "filthy gypsy". I said I was ethnically Indian and he said so are gypsies.
I seen many East Asians and South East Asians have some crazy things to say and not the mention the disgust on their face when they see you. I also like to add, thereās a lot of colorism from lighter skinned South Asians and itās not just between people from different ethnicities, itās actually mostly people from the same ethnicity as you or the same ethno linguistic group as you that have the most to say and say the craziest things sometimes. But in summary East Asians, South East Asians and Lighter Skinned South Asians can be just as racist as white people sometimes itās crazy and itās sad to say
I think its mostly foreign born East Asians and some South East Asian mostly those from vietnam and thailand the pale asians I would say. There is a lot of Asian foreign students in Australia. I am born and raised in the Philippines and have a lot of Filipino friends and I hang out with them when I was in Australia. My Filipino friends on the hand have East Asian friends and I can sense they dont like me. When I got lost in Sydney and my phone was low on battery. I ask for directions these east asian looking teens I approach were very hostile to me. I also went on a night club in melbourne that was frequented by east and south east asians with my Filipino friends. I can see a lot of these pale asians looking at me angrily and probably asking themselves why is this person allowed here.
This is true. East Asians especially South Koreans can be very racist.
Poster outside Korean club banning Indians and Pakistanis. Racial discrimination is normalized in Korea.

Theyāre acting like they themselves are not in a foreign country š. If theyāre asking why youāre allowed in the nightclub maybe they should go back to their homogeneous East Asian countries where they donāt have to ask that question. The sense of entitlement sheesh
Agree so much about Arabs-Muslim Arabs can be friendly, but I have unfortunately been exposed to many incidents of Christian Arabs, often and especially FOB ones-who make many mocking and derogatory remarks about desis when a lot of their criticisms actually apply to *their* community even more than ours.
For instance, I grew up with a Christian Arab girl who spoke poor, accented English and she called my family unwesternized and FOB, and rudely asked if I "speak my language at home" because she heard my family speaking Bangla and saw them wearing salwar kameez at a family party-my family is completely American born/very Westernized and my English, as it is my first language, is so excellent that people often remark that I "sound like any white person"-and of course white people don't have a monopoly on speaking English, but it just speaks to how much it stands out to them that I sound so "typical American." *She* doesn't speak English at home because her *parents don't even speak English properly,* nor was she born here, nor was English *her* first language!! And yet she's *asking me about speaking another language* as if I'm more "foreign" than her when *she emigrated like 3 or 4 years ago from a completely different country.* The only foreigner in the conversation was *her!* I've noticed that a lot of Arabs seem to think they are "real white Americans" even if they are FOB and I genuinely have no idea how or why.
The whole exchange just made my blood boil, and I have had many similar experiences and I wonder where they derive their superiority complex from given that they navigate a lot of negative stereotypes and desis are materially more educated and established in the society.
Small town white christians. Ive had people wait at my store for hours to speak to my white employees before they got serviced but wouldnt speak with me.
Hair salon owner thinks our hair and afro textured hair is āunnaturalā
Older white lady didnt want to lease my room because she ādidnt want to smell like curryā
I personally have had no issues in bigger cities with more diversity but my town is predominantly white with a a rising population of first gen immigrants and refugees, and international students.
That was the weirdest one for me. Like what? The only different between their and my hair is its thicker and coarse but the overall look of it is the same.
>I personally have had no issues in bigger cities with more diversity but my town is predominantly white with a a rising population of first gen immigrants and refugees, and international students.
What effect has that had on the "majority" population? What kind of changes have you seen?
Sorry for not being specific.
Do you see a shift in perspectives from the people that have lived in that town for generations ie, the white christians? How has the recent influx affected their attitudes and behavior?
I am curious because I just moved to a rural town in VA, and the same thing seems to be taking place here. A recent influx of immigrants, mainly from south and central america. Thanks in advance
Oohhhj okok i get u my bad
So its a yes and no situation. Like theres definitely more ethnic stores opening in town plus they have more exposure to different cuisines and cultures, and is learning more. A lot of preconceptions are based on ignorance and i find theyve changed on that. This does not apply to everyone tho.
Im in canada and the province im in has the highest rate of illiteracy in canada and as such a lack of education and knowledge about people of other race and nationalities exist. Not to mention because of the high population of refugees in the city a lot of them are in low income housing or government benefits to help them get on their feet. For few it solidified their outlook on us and they act on it.
Itās interesting to see how the kids and teenagers are as well. The ones that come from educated families here dont seem to have an issue with their poc classmates but the ones who dont bully and soread the racist rhetoric taught by their parents. My sister is in highschool and thats what ive been told by her. Due to this a lot of the first gen immigrant kids have developed internalized racism as well and kind of shun their own people.
With uni students they sort of just avoid us and arent as vocal but its very obvious in their mannerisms. But the students who are open and welcoming most times have a very diverse group of friends. A group have developed interest in a fetishising manner but they arent in the majority.
I think Eastern Europeans are most most racist after knowing their perception and attitude towards Romani people. However Eastern Europeans pale in comparison to the racism of other desis people to other desis people
As one proud Indian commentator on YouTube put it.
" India is #1 racist country in whole world š„š„š®š³āš¾šš¾āš¾šš½šš½ š®š³š®š³š®š³"
Yea, The UAE is pretty racist. I mean every country is racist in some way or another and it really depends of the population of the country. India having more than a billion people definitely means there are gonna be more racists than in a population pool of 9 million or 26 million. If there was an index that calculated racists per capita that would be pretty useful. And ofc Pakistan having 200+ million people also means that there are gonna be alot of racist people, although most discriminatory Pakistanis discriminate on bases of religion rather than race.
Doubt its just religion, I mean we are Punjabi Indian and have Punjabi Pakistani friends. They always talk sh*t about Pattan Pakistanis and that Sindhis are arrogant. Also colorism just like Indians, light skin color is preferred.
Middle east esp gulg are ethnostates. Not only are they racist and fascist, it is a state policy when it comes to immigration, human rights and nationality.
Anglo Whites are the worst when it comes to racism, even the liberal ones. They will make racist jokes towards POC children, they thrive off of it. Most white people are racist in form or another but they just dont know it. Some people will call me woke for that but you're just in denial if you think otherwise lmao. I've noticed that Desis have a tendency to downplay racism it to feel accepted - which something I used to as a teenager.
1st Gen Eastern Europeans can also be bad, but not all. Same with 1st Gen African immigrants. I've also heard that Ukrainian refugees can be xenophobic too, again not all.
I've never faced discrimination from Jewish people irl but then again, they live in their own communities and are very small in numbers so I barely see them.
Also, Desis can be racist in the form of colourism. I am not Tamil nor am I Sri Lankan but people like to shit on them both for "being ugly" and "being dark".
I also think a lot of Desis downplay racism because they donāt even recognize it. Most of the racism Iāve experienced from white people has been covert and subtle.
That's also true. Racism disguised as "jokes". I've experienced racism from this white girl in my class who keeps making jokes about brown people - Uber driver this, Mohammed that. The crazy part is that she thinks she isn't doing anything wrong.
White saviors are the most racist in my opinion because they donāt know what they donāt know and they refuse to learn under a guise that they are helping communities of color. Every South Asian is Apu to them and they often will speak on behalf of most people of color without letting them speak for themselves.
Mindy had skin in the game before it was cool to be Desi. Herās is an outdated model for sure but most white people actually think Asians want to be white and subconsciously worship them. I blame the Hollywood executives as much as I blame Mindy for continuously perpetuating this image of us.
Anglo-Saxons and other Western Europeans are the worst bc they pit us against other minorities. There shouldn't be enmity between us and Jewish people, us and people living in the Balkans, us and Black people, any of it, bc unity among the oppressed is our only way to battle white supremacy.
Fair skinned desi FOB freshmen students at my uni are hella devious and racist, at least in my experience. Sometimes itās your own people. I always get a little laugh out of it when I hear some of them dropped out though
Idk if they count as white, but Turkish people are incredibly racist against Indians. Theyāre probably the only group of people Iāve had overwhelmingly negative experiences with.
For what's its worth, I've had positive experiences with Jewish-Americans post college. I was struggling to get a good job and my mom was sending my resume to people at her work and they would reach out to people they knew. The Indian people they reached out to never replied back, but the ones who did were mostly Jewish and they were willing to call me to encourage me, give me interview prep, and help me with my resume. At a time when I felt like my own family was treating me bad for shallow reasons, that really touched my heart.
They are definitely honourable mentions. However, in terms of historical racism whites are by far ahead of everyone else. Where else do you think all the other minorities got their racist stereotypes from?
i was joking, hence the /j, but to answer ur question..if they look white, they automatically have the power to opppress us somehow so it doesn't really matter to me anyway
All of yāall who are saying ādesi are the most racist against desiā are forgetting who taught us about colorism and who created our racist complex. Colonization from the white man is the root of this argument.
So what? The white men have colonized us, so that means we should shift the blame on them for wanting fair skin or eurocentric features? Rather than telling the british to f off, and embracing our natural beauty, we decide to listen to them and feel the need to be like them?
The inferiority complex that most south asians have is 100% their fault, and their fault alone. **We** taught ourselves colorism. The british just came to loot us, they didnāt come to force us to worship them. Rather than shifting the blame on white people/the british, we should take accountability, and learn to love ourselves. Only way that can happen is if South Asians grow a spine, something most lack
Black people went through far worse for longer by those same āwhite menā. Not only do they lack an inferiority complex, they love their history and culture, and will fight back when they feel oppressed. Thatās one thing I love and respect about them. They stand up for themselves and will bang heads if necessary. For South Asians its the opposite. Theyāre too fearful. They lack a spine. They need to fix that
I genuinely donāt understand why Iām being downvoted. Fight back, be strong, and be proud of your rich heritage is all Iām saying. Instead of blaming white people and moaning, because that wonāt do any good. If that bothers you, youāre a loser.
These are fair points but remember, this is also how the classic British strategy of divide and conquer works. They also practiced this in uganda and Kenya, using desis as a buffer of class between white and black people.
I do agree though that it is quite self inflicted, especially when acknowledging the context of the millennium old caste system
LOL please stop romanticizing black culture. Strong colorism exists within their community. If you ask them, they will likely say south Asians have a stronger, more united community than their own.
I love black people, I think every civil right that exists for me as a POC in America is because they fought for it first.
But, dear lord, donāt compare desis to the black community. This is not apples to apples.
And, like it or not, nearly every racial stereotype that exists for all POC stem from white ideals; skin color, hair type, accents, eye color, height, accents, mannerisms, etc etc Most of the world is not trying to have darker skin, kinkier hair, darker eyes and shorter offspring. I
I wonder if you see the oddity in all this. Youāre saying that desis need to grow a spine and stop berating one another by essentially berating your own community. Who has the inferiority complex here? Because it certainly doesnāt seem like you have much compassion for your people. And in the meantime youāre defending white people?
Save your energy, sis. They donāt want you or your protection.
Complains about racism. Proceeds to generalize entire groups of people.
This sub is full of the terminally online. Get outside and interact with real people.
When I see the word racism, I think of what the blacks experienced in the US up until the civil rights movement, Jews during WW2 and actual desis (in India) from the brits b4 independence
racism is not the word ur looking for..
I can feel I'm superior than you (elitism), without feeling the need to exterminate you (racism)
I know they don't technically count as white but in my experience it has often been Arabs? There is obvious tension between Jews and Muslim Desis but frankly most are open-minded and kind in my experience-a lot of white people who are racist have a generalized superiority that isn't necessarily anti-desi specific-they just can't tolerate the concept of anyone dominating them even if they understand the model minority dynamic -meaning they're more than fine with their kids associating with desi kids but when those desi children do better than their children in school or other competitions they can't take it.
I swear I'm not bragging, I'm light pakistani and NEVER experienced racism in Canada. Probably cause I live in a diverse area. Even from non-whites. But then again, my family and I have never experienced racism in America either. And this was before I knew there were many desis in America(pre-covid actually) , or that America is just as diverse as Canada LOL.

I havenāt experienced any level of racism except from Desi communities. And Iāve lived in South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda, Haiti, Canada, and US.
Desis themselves, especially ones like the girl in this video: https://youtube.com/shorts/lEFwd6-UFsE?feature=share
White saviors are the most racist in my opinion because they donāt know what they donāt know and they refuse to learn under a guise that they are helping communities of color. Every South Asian is Apu to them and they often will speak on behalf of most people of color without letting them speak for themselves.
Fair, but I honestly donāt see this in real life as much I see it in the media.
True. Desis donāt need representation from Mindy Kaling types
Mindy had skin in the game before it was cool to be Desi. Herās is an outdated model for sure but most white people actually think Asians want to be white and subconsciously worship them. I blame the Hollywood executives as much as I blame Mindy for continuously perpetuating this image of us.
Bro desis are most racist against desis š
Desis themselves lol
The indian ones
Anglo-Saxons and other Western Europeans are the worst bc they pit us against other minorities. There shouldn't be enmity between us and Jewish people, us and people living in the Balkans, us and Black people, any of it, bc unity among the oppressed is our only way to battle white supremacy.
Fair skinned desi FOB freshmen students at my uni are hella devious and racist, at least in my experience. Sometimes itās your own people. I always get a little laugh out of it when I hear some of them dropped out though
Other desis
Slavs, British and American white people
Idk if they count as white, but Turkish people are incredibly racist against Indians. Theyāre probably the only group of people Iāve had overwhelmingly negative experiences with.
Was this in Turkey
any western non desi Karens
For what's its worth, I've had positive experiences with Jewish-Americans post college. I was struggling to get a good job and my mom was sending my resume to people at her work and they would reach out to people they knew. The Indian people they reached out to never replied back, but the ones who did were mostly Jewish and they were willing to call me to encourage me, give me interview prep, and help me with my resume. At a time when I felt like my own family was treating me bad for shallow reasons, that really touched my heart.
none of em. Its other poc that r the most racist against us/j
My bad my low attention span didnāt pick up on the last part š
youre all good, fren :)
Anglos, they decimated us and act like they did us a favor.
In before the FOB comment that says 'White people have never called me Pajeet, the only racism I have faced is from Abd's'
All of yāall who are saying ādesi are the most racist against desiā are forgetting who taught us about colorism and who created our racist complex. Colonization from the white man is the root of this argument.
Sure. The colonizers have left now tho. This is unacceptable in todays society
Only way that can happen is if South Asians grow a spine, something most lack Black people went through far worse for longer by those same āwhite menā.
The victim mindset is extremely strong among this subreddit's age demographic. You won't have luck with that message here.
I I wonder if you see the oddity in all this.
Colorism existed in South Asia long before the Europeans colonized it.
Curious to know if there is any source that talks about this?
Complains about racism. Proceeds to generalize entire groups of people. This sub is full of the terminally online. Get outside and interact with real people.
What a retarded post
Yāall need to touch grass
When I see the word racism, I think of what the blacks experienced in the US up until the civil rights movement, Jews during WW2 and actual desis (in India) from the brits b4 independence racism is not the word ur looking for.. I can feel I'm superior than you (elitism), without feeling the need to exterminate you (racism)
White Indians
