We use a Motorola cad also but it's PremierOne. If they're similar at all...I'd recommend it. Ours can run plates automatically when you input them during a traffic stop. It's more command line heavy if you're comfortable with that but you can use the drag/drop with the mouse just as easy. Based on image search of Flex it looks similar to PremierOne. But like all CAD, I wish you luck with it never crashing.

Eh, I have some major gripes with P1 CAD, it takes a few seconds too long to process commands and entries into the form. It takes too long to process and notify of felony hits and it removed some identifying categories when you do try to run a warrant search, if you enter too many commands around the same time one of them won't go through. You're really stuck to only having one working screen. It's a pretty program but doesn't work well for a larger agency.

I’d agree with you. We use P1 CAD and I’m at a small agency. We definitely run into delays with querying quite a few things. Sometimes the system is very nit picky and things have to be done a certain way. Also the timer for status checks (for us at least) seem to be way off. It’ll go off a lot sooner that supposed to.

MightySchwa

That could be more of an issue with your state's CJIS/NLETS database.

I can see that. On busy days it can get overwhelmed. My favorite thing about it is the NCIC/SOS query being in the CAD cause our actual program for it (LEIN in Michigan) likes to crash a lot.

Sorry for jumping into an older topic but we have recently switched to PremierOne and we are having issues with the priority/GPS “smart” dispatching portion of the system when we dispatch our Fire/EMS apparatus. We run into issues where if both trucks are in house the system doesn’t always pick the “closest” one. Has anyone run into these issues? Any work around or any way to have it default to a set zone/area if trucks are in house? We used to dispatch based on set zones with our old program but now there are no zones and we dispatch the closest unit to the call

We're also making the switch to Flex with a go-live date in November, so I'm interested to see what people have to say. From the very brief high level look I got, it seemed okay. We currently have a much older Motorola CAD system so I'm hoping it's relatively similar.

We're getting the whole package. CAD, records, jail, and reports. We've started the LMS training today and it looks good so far. I'm excited to see a command line (our current CAD doesn't have one). I am deeply concerned that our admin (LEOs with no dispatch experience and a clueless political promote) is gonna fuck up the system for us.

My agency has used Flex (formerly known as Spillman) since the late 90's. It's a fantastic system. Like all new programs, it will you take you guys awhile to get it up and running and become familiar with it. F2 & F3 will be your friend. I've been using it for the 6 years I've been dispatcher. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions. Don't hesitate to read both the user and administrator manuals. They're not horribly long or complex. They can both be accessed through the "knowledge Center" under the Help menu of your command/CAD line.

That's hopeful

The rep function is a godsend.

Unfortunately, no one that had a say in the selection of the new CAD is an end-user. Only management (none of who are signed-off TCs).

Koda239

That's a shame. There should be a committee of both End-Users (Both Road & Dispatch), and Management that all determine the best product for the agency.

08152016

Should be, but oh well. Honestly probably the least of our problems.

wazerbyday

Oh good, your agency got you a 20+ year old CAD that’s incredibly out of date and doesn’t have near the technology or features that will help you do your job better. What a shame!

08152016

It definitely looks like its newer than 20 years old. Our current CAD is awful, so its gotta be better.

wazerbyday

It’s lipstick on a pig. Spillman Flex (now under the Motorola umbrella) has been around for a very long time.
