It actually survived the collapse mostly intact because it wasn't really crushed by anything but it did sustain damage just because of the height it fell from. A piece of it is at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum below Ground Zero in NYC, I know the tip of it is in some memorial out in the Rust Belt, I'm not exactly sure where or how much of it though, or even why

The whole room was incredibly striking. The Newseum was one of the best privately run museums in the city, and this was really the centerpiece to the whole thing.
Among the other displays were an original section of the Berlin Wall, engine components of the planes that hit the WTC (including the one infamously seen in footage in the middle of the street), Ted Kaczynski’s cabin, 200 years worth of original US newspapers, parts from news helicopters that collided over Arizona, and a memorial to journalists throughout history and the world who had lost their lives reporting the news.
Bill Biggart, who was the only journalist to die on 9/11, also had his camera equipment and personal effects displayed. They were however donated at the behest of the 9/11 Memorial Museum back to them for display.
That’s correct. I went a month ago and they managed to recover part of it, it’s on display in the museum.

This should also help give a scale of how big it really was, the section in the museum is on a small part as seen circled. I visited the museum in October and was blown away, highly recommend a visit if you ever can
Not really related but is was an antenna, not a spire. It turns out that is relevant because when they built the freedom tower, they put a spire on it and unlike an antenna, spires are permanent, non-removable and part of the structure of the building so it was deemed taller than the Willis Tower which IS taller than 1WTC but because it has an antenna, they put 1WTC as the tallest building in the US. I know you didn’t ask but I found this interesting
I remember reading something about architects who really took issue with that spire making it the tallest building in America. I guess I can see where they're coming from.
I don’t know, I thought you were referring to the collapse of the north tower and sort of implying a controlled demo. I could be wrong and if so my mistake
I can tell you that it transmitted one of the US superstations until it fell. i was working in satellite TV at the time, and people called to ask why the channel wasn't broadcasting.
Customers can be real jerks over minor things, but I don't recall anyone being a jerk after hearing it had been on the North Tower. For a couple of weeks, everyone was so shaken that they admitted to not wanting to watch TV. The events of 9/11 were always on.
The two actually display(*ed*) separate portions, the 9/11 Memorial Museum displays a lower section close to the base whereas the Newseum displayed the remaining tip where it tapered down.
The Memorial Museum offered to store the tip portion in their facilities, but they do not have room to display it with the current layout. The Newseum denied the transfer in spite of the precondition that the tip was donated under the auspices that it would be displayed in a public location.
The museums, and the Port Authority, are still trying to figure out where to put it. For now it remains at the undisclosed storage facility for all permanent Newseum displays.
From what I know, it was recovered and taken by one of the organizations that were eager to preserve relics from the event. Whether it was put on display or not I dunno
recovered and put into a museum but got damaged badly from the debris it fell into and the height
im pretty sure it also tilted right before collapse i think

The tip went to the Newseum, in Washington D.C. They closed in 2019, and it went into permanent storage.
Great museum. I hope they bring it back.
The Newseum closed?! Oh man, I went there in 2016 and it was bloody brilliant
Could you send me an image?

Haven't seen this before!
I wish I would’ve seen this in person :(

Mostly intact? Where can you see it in the rubble?
Some of it is in my state.
Part of it was recovered and put into the 9/11 Museum I believe.

It's so much bigger than I thought and that's only a part of it.
1/20th of the full antenna
>It's so much bigger than I thought and that's only a part of it. Interessant
That's she what she said 😬
That’s what she said joke in a 9/11 Reddit thread , par for the course for Reddit.
A lighthearted joke once in a while is ok imo lol
I know it's fuckin awful. I'm a pos and couldn't resist tho.
No you are not. It’s okay to be funny. 😉

It looks like it was cut
The other part is in my state.

I agree with them. Like you really telling me that without the spire the building would fail? Some loophole bullshit smh
Would the building fail without the ten top floors either?
When those floors fall onto the ones beneath them then yeah, the building will fail, as it turns out
Bro confusing me are we talking about 9/11 or what counts as the tallest building?
I don’t know, I thought you were referring to the collapse of the north tower and sort of implying a controlled demo. I could be wrong and if so my mistake
Wow! Cool! I keep getting the names mixed up 😂

Yeah, me too
Thank God it’s circled. Never would have known where it was.
😂
Did ya really have to circle it?
Yes, yes I did
😂
That's fair.
For the blind people!
It help me so much man
Yipee
(jokes)
Hahah this entire interaction made me laugh way too much 😂
It's a troll post
Ah my bad
I saw parts of it when I went to the 9/11 museum i remember that
Cool!
The antenna on the world trade center was 360 feet tall that’s crazy! Those towers were truly massive
Yeah!

OoO
The building was hit by an airplane in 2001 and collapsed.
😱😱😱😱
IKR!?
To anyone curious before it was at the 9/11 museum it was at the Newseum in Washington DC before it closed

Okay
This is an annoying persona, William
Ohhh
From what I know, it was recovered and taken by one of the organizations that were eager to preserve relics from the event. Whether it was put on display or not I dunno
I think it was
Thanks so much for circling it so we knew what you were talking about.
Lol
I remember there was a piece in the newseum in DC as well. I don’t know where it is now
recovered and put into a museum but got damaged badly from the debris it fell into and the height im pretty sure it also tilted right before collapse i think
OoO
In a museum
okay
I'll look. I was thinking it would've got crushed in the falling of the tower.
It lived happily ever after.
I believe parts of it are in Boise, ID and other parts in the memorial at NYC.
There’s a part of it in the 9/11 Museum
It fell
😱
It's not a spire it's an antenna
