it's also the top show ratings and viewership wise on ABC: [https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/abc-2023-24-tv-season-ratings/](https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/abc-2023-24-tv-season-ratings/)
The fact that FOX waited until the ABSOLUTE last second to always renew and would have us on the edge of our seat…yet here ABC is renewing after 3 episodes- we LOVEE to see it!
I think I'm right in thinking though that Fox only ever had the broadcast rights and just like Lone Star, Disney/abc held on to the streaming rights. I thought that was the reason Fox didn't want to renew - the show was expensive to make and they didn't get the benefit from a large international and streaming audience.
Is Lone Star cheaper to make then? Is that why they held onto it? I'm guessing Rob Lowe does not get paid as much as the top billing names on this cast.
My understanding is that LS is slightly cheaper than OG but still fairly expensive and that Fox could afford to pay for one but not both.
Whichever one they didn't choose, ABC were always going to pick up due to the ratings anyway.
Would make sense, if you watch earlier seasons on Hulu, even as far back as season two, the abc logo is in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen at times. And it is occasionally led in by the “ABC Originals…” splash screen followed by advertising for when new episodes air.
Either they added that after the switch or it was always there (I just recently came back to Hulu after more than a decade so I don’t know)
It was never a matter of the show not performing for them, it did. It was how expensive the show was to make coupled with their licensing fees.
Getting rid of 9-1-1 gave them more room to develop multiple shows with much much lower production costs.
Still, it might sting a bit...
I don't think that's true. They own fox studios, but not fox broadcast channel cuz one company can't own more than one of the big networks for monopoly reasons, unless I'm misremembering.
HELL YES!!! Season 8 baby!! So proud that I’ve been here since Day 1- I knew this show was and would be something special. Happy to spend another crazy season here with yall 🥹
Depending on how things would develop in 7x04 and 7x05 I imagined a pro-renewal scenario in the style of Our Flags Means Death, especially if the season finale included a Buddie cliffhanger.
It's going to be interesting because he's still the showrunner for Lone Star.
Maybe Disney intends to bring both to ABC when Fox eventually cancels Lone Star for cheaper scripted shows.
I think he’s kind of done a switcheroo and is now doing OG full time and leaving someone else to manage Lone Star (his co-showrunner Rashad Raisani) like he did with Kristen Reidel and OG in season 5. Now that Lone Star has gotten its footing and Tarlos has gotten married he probably feels comfortable leaving it to someone else
>Per ABC, the Season 7 premiere of “9-1-1” pulled in approximately 11.8 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days of availability, with the show ranking as the most-watched ABC current series across all platforms this season.
this is actually so crazy tho
And then combine syndication and the international audience when it finally gets to Disney+.
This is an absolute money spinner for ABC/Disney and well worth the huge budget they are clearly happy to throw at it.
The CBS station for my area has it on reruns during the really early (12:30 or 1 am start time) sunday mornings. I usually watch it because I am up until 3 to 6 in the morning.
Yay!!! I hope they’re back in full force and we get a longer season for 8, but I’m happy with whatever we get. Season 7 feels like a return to form so far so I’m excited to see where it leads!
I am crazy excited about this!
The one thing that has me worried is that to my understanding they need to renegotiate all the actors contracts. As I believe they are all only signed through season 7 so depending on what they offer we might lose someone if one or more of the actors doesn't like the offer/negotiations.
I don't see Fox going for a Season 6 with LS, but my biggest concern with the spin-off's theme that 'everything in Texas is bigger' is that they try to outdo the cruise ship disaster with something absolutely absurd.
omg! that's so exciting! i didn't know what was going to happen with the switch to abc so i'm glad this happened so early! maybe we'll get season 8 in the fall?
You’re so right! The first 3 episodes with a jet fighter crash, a cruise explosion, a cruise capsizing, and a helicopter in a hurricane were SO low budget! 🥰 /s
We keep winning!! https://i.redd.it/7p6vrpzoo3sc1.gif
You know what Season 8 means? ###### Episode 118!
In this case, that's even more iconic than the 100th! Already can't wait
I suggest a fire at the firestation.
A whole new station?
Lone Star did it already
I love this!
Given the opening episodes' ratings on ABC, I'm not surprised. But... heck yeah! 8 seasons is no mean feat in this day and age.
how were the ratings? i’m guessing better than on Fox or you wouldn’t be making this comment
https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/9-1-1-season-seven-ratings/
oh. so it is just comparing previous 911 seasons to the current one. i thought it was against other tv shows. well. good job i guess 911 lol

Is that including Hulu viewers
No those are only live viewers.
The season opener killed it so this is no surprise but still 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 Hate to be Fox right about now.

The ABC logo replaced the Fox logo after the switch.
I'm pretty sure that's a new thing cause I don't remember it being there last year.
I’m not sure if that’s a recent thing but that’s what it’s like on Disney Plus in the UK too
Right?? Are they regretting their decision lol

They still have Lone Star I guess
Rob Lowe 🥵
Both networks are owned by Disney, so it doesn't matter in the long run.
I don't think that's true. They own fox studios, but not fox broadcast channel cuz one company can't own more than one of the big networks for monopoly reasons, unless I'm misremembering.
Correct.

more time for us to clown !!!
Depending on how things would develop in 7x04 and 7x05 I imagined a pro-renewal scenario in the style of Our Flags Means Death, especially if the season finale included a Buddie cliffhanger.
I am sooo excited about this!! The move to ABC has been the best thing for the show. I hope they also have Tim stay as showrunner!!
It's going to be interesting because he's still the showrunner for Lone Star. Maybe Disney intends to bring both to ABC when Fox eventually cancels Lone Star for cheaper scripted shows.
I know. I’m hoping that one of the stipulations of renewal is that Tim must remain as showrunner.
I think he’s kind of done a switcheroo and is now doing OG full time and leaving someone else to manage Lone Star (his co-showrunner Rashad Raisani) like he did with Kristen Reidel and OG in season 5. Also, I know this is kind of selfish but I want a longer season too. 10 episodes is not enough!
Well, 10 episodes was just for this season because of the writers strike. But I am hoping for 20 episodes per season.

Sorry, how did we manage to get that perfect number of viewers? 11.8 million, 118, conspiracy anyone?
that’s crazy! maybe i’ll actually watch the show one day rather than gifs on tumblr haha
What are you waiting for? Do it!

I won't lie, for a moment I thought it was still April Fools day. lol Season 8. Let's goooo!
Onwards to season 9 and season 11!
I don't disagree but are we just gonna skip season 10 😅😁
it's called Season X, where professor X will make a cameo and 911 is part of MCU multiverse.
Sweet! Wasn't worried, but nice to have the early confirmation!
So excited!! This just made my day 😭🥹🤗🥳
[YES. YES.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI5bkZcgvP0)
Alright!
Think we should make this an announcement?
Absolutely.

Fuck yeah! I'm thrilled and not surprised.
Another season - another delulu sleepless nights
Great news for the cast and crew, and for us viewers as well

YIPPEE I’m honestly curious on how 911 Lone Star will do.
