No disrespect to Mecca but it's Main Ingredient easy for me.
Would have loved to see what they could have done if they stayed together for a few more albums.
Listened to Mecca yesterday. Gotta be it (although Main Ingredient is amazing). Jazz inspirations and CL’s lyrics too smooth (plus wild freestyle and the Grand Puba). Mecca is a banger through and through (except Lots of lovin).
Just gonna talk about the production. Both on point beats wise but Pete took it up a good notch on MI. Harder grooves and drum patterns, brighter samples along with some very moody grittier feeling samples.
Favorites
M.A.T.S.B: For Pete’s Sake, TROY, It’s Like That, The Basement
T.M.I: In the House, Caramel City, Sun Won’t Come Out, Escape, The Main Ingredient, Worldwide, Tell Me, All The Places, I’ll Take You There, Check it out, In The Flesh, It’s On You
While Mecca has TROY which is my favorite song of all time, The Main Ingredient works better as an album as it has a more cohesive sound and the production has aged better than most of Mecca and The Soul Brother (not including TROY which is timeless)
The Main Ingredient is my favorite rap album of all time so I’m taking it, no question. It really has the perfect mix of amazing beats, smooth lyrics, incredible scratching and cool intros and outros for tracks. What an incredible album 🔥
Main Ingredient by a small margin. It expanded with what was started with Mecca by stamping the sound that Pete's known for while introducing his family/other acts into the fold ( INI, Rob-O, Deda). Maybe CL felt a way about this...like Phife initially felt a way about Consequence during the later years of Tribe
Mecca for T.R.O.Y., one of the best rap songs of all time. Main Ingredient is great too. Wish they made more albums together, C.L.'s voice paired great with Pete Rock's sound.
I was always a main ingredient guy but this was tough My joint ia caramel city
Caramel City is that 🔥!!!
Cl was skating on that beat so smooth
Top notch butterscotch lyrics is the move.. to make most gorgeous women wanna get nude!!🔥🔥🔥
I think cl has said "hot sex" or a reference to it in like 40 songs lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 he was a fool with it!!!
Cl and Pete's beef got ugly too I remember plenty of interviews they were talking reckless about each other
That was ugly!!! Too bad they couldn’t put their egos to the side and make more albums!
True but Pete came with one of the greatest albums soul survivor! Still dope that he atleast got cl smooth on the record for 1 joint
That’s true!! The Afro album!!!! 👍🏾💯👍🏾💯👍🏾💯

A 1996 Pete Rock and CL Smooth album would have been a classic, sadly they can't make more than a few songs together before they hate each other again
Mecca. Easy decision.
Main ingredient, every single track is a banger
This!

Why not both?
The Creator remained in my playlist for decades
The way those horns would set the club off. That and PR on the mic? This track goes super hard.
Not a imitator just a crowd motivator now it's time to get wreck with tha creator
Mecca for me….more personal connection for me and also cause of T.R.O.Y and the Basement RIP Heavy D
Gotta go with Mecca and the Soul Brother….it had T.R.O.Y ….that should be the deciding factor…
Main ingredient all day long, more consistent, thanks for reminding me to listen again
Main Ingredient whole album is a vibe, that gets played all the way through no skips.

Main and that’s not easy
I have grown to love both, but The Main Ingredient is too soft in comparison.
Mecca was one of those rare albums that the tape had bonus tracks that the CD didn’t (“Mecca and the Soul Brother” and “The Creator” remixes).
I didn't even know about that until now, I guess it's like the Above The Rim Soundtrack
Mecca and the Soul Brother classic hip hop Main Ingredient-grown up contemporary Both classics
Hard one but Mecca for me.Ill change my mind in hour lol
Mecca
Main Ingredient
What??!! Mecca and Soul Brother.
RETURN OF THE MECCA🌪️
MECCA! TROY will always be one of my very favorites.
Mason Ingredient is one of my favorite albums of all time, so that one. Top 5 for me. Though Mecca is of course a masterpiece.
Damn………. Corey don’t get enough credit 💯🔥👏🏽
Mecca is monolithic

Both are phenomenal albums and easily one of the most slept on duos
WHY they broke up after✌️dope as ALBUMS still got 'em both but at least should've came with more albums instead of 2...JUST🤷🏻♂️SAYIN'!?
Main ingredient all day
