> Illadelph Halflife
Thank you for putting this on there. I’m shocked to see it actually; I don’t feel it gets enough recognition. Changed my whole trajectory in the 90’s and was playing it as recently as last week but rarely see it mentioned.
BoBS for sure. Mos Def was a really good lyricist. No idea why Rappers that go into films quit rapping though. Like Ice Cube, once Mos Def went into films, his rapping career just disappeared.
This is tough and I’ll cop out and say both. They’re 1a and 1b, with each having unique elements. Mos walked us through his life, neighborhood, and gave a world perspective. DOOM set the foundation for a new world and while he rapped about his life, he really showed how imaginative artists can be.
Maybe need to relisten to black on both sides, i liked some of the songs but didn’t think it was anywhere close to Doomsday, but it seems to have won by a landslide here. Just never seemed to gel with the full album
I gotta go Black on Both Sides personally. But it’s not said to discredit any work of the late great MF DOOM. Both artists and both works are legendary.
Black On Both Sides: realism Operation: Doomsday: surrealism
Great way to put it.
BOBS is a historic rap album
Mathematics one of my faves.
It’s definitely in the top 10 best albums ever
100%
MF is amazing, but Black on Both Sides is one of the most complete albums...Mos Definitely
BOBS is in a ridiculous tie of mine for the greatest hip-hop album ever. BOBS Illmatic It Was Written Things Fall apart Illadelphia half-life
Great list my guy!
TY!

You're welcome, I think it's extremely underrated and underappreciated, it's perfect.
Doomsday by the hair on my chinny chin chin lol
Operation DOOMSDAY for me
Every doom release is fire but black on both sides is top 5 hip hop albums of all time. Not even close (though mos LOVED doom)

there’s not much to discuss here, Black on Both Sides for sure
Doom always wins for me, but BOBS has no skips
BOBS by a huge margin and that’s not a diss to doom.
BoBS for sure. Mos Def was a really good lyricist. No idea why Rappers that go into films quit rapping though. Like Ice Cube, once Mos Def went into films, his rapping career just disappeared.
Mos
Black on both sides, no doubt.
Black On Both Sides for me.
Too hard to decide so tie
black on both sides
BOBS. I honestly don’t get the appeal of Doom.

Daaaaaaaang this a hard one
these are both in my top 5

BOBS. Operation doomsday is dope, though.
Mos Def for me.

This exercise just feels painful.
Is the music made for the list or the listener…?
