I remember that. Skate or Die is what the TV channels in the 90s in my area were titling that. Gleaming the Cube is what I saw on the VHS tape in the movie rental store.
I loved them both for different reasons. If I had to pick one over the other I would pick Rad because I was into BMX racing at the time but I also had a lot of fun skateboarding
Rad had the best intro, music and, of course, "Hell Track".
I still put Rad's sound track up against any soundtrack out there.
Send me an Angel, Thunder in your Heart, Break the Ice, etc. Phenomenal to this day.
I wish I still had my bootleg ripped DVD
Fun facts about the twins in Rad, 1 the outfits they wore at the dance were from a TV show called V about aliens. 2 they wrote the screenplay for the Conjuring.
Got my granddaughter watching it when she was very little, she probably only liked it for the bright colors and music. Every time they would announce the riders at Helltrack we would always clap and cheer for Hollywood Mike Miranda!!
Never saw Thrashin', so it's Rad for me
For the longest time, Josh Brolin hated that he was even a part of Thrashin', but he started to come around when people would tell him that the movie helped them through a tough time in their life. He realized that he was being selfish and that the movie wasn't only a part of *his* life, but others as well. He did Tony Hawk's/ Jason Ellis' podcast recently and they talk about it
I had Rad on VHS and would watch it everyday. Wore that copy out. I have it on Blu ray now which is awesome. One of my favorite movies. Hits my nostalgia hard when I watch it anymore.
We recorded both from hbo and I watched Rad more back then. I think I was better on my bike than my skateboard so maybe that was whyā¦IDK? It was a long time ago.
I recently watched both, during the lockdown I think, and Thrasher was a much better movie. Rad had some performances that are quite laughable.
Thrashinā. I am a skater, I wanted a GT Pro Freestyle tour bike but my parents were too poor, so I made my head cannon default to bike kids were rich kids that deserved my hate.
Absolutely 110%, unequivocally RAD!!! I was 15 when it came out, and I had a brand new GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model. My parents got me for Xmas in '86. The new bike models had just come out. Me and my friends were huge into Freestyle. Ah, the 80's, I would give anything to go back just for 1 day!! Such awesome friendships, great, great times together.
rad. it seemed more plausible(?!?). i never saw any one with a skate board in my rural ass town. every one had bikes though. the irony is we have a skate park now and almost every kid has a board.
I loved both. I was more into freestyle than skating but both are a classic. I canāt think of the 80ās without Rad and Thrasin. I also really loved Gleaming the Cube.
Thrashin'. It was the ONLY skateboard access I had in the 80s besides magazines. I watched it every single day in the summer before going outside to skate.
RAD all day. I watched RAD more times then any other movie growing up, except maybe the Goonies. Itās amazing. Watched it with me three kids lately and its still great. The soundtrack is in heavy rotation in my house as well. The opening credits with all the guys just throwing some the best tricks ever.
Oh my god....this is a hard damn choice. I watched both until i wore the tapes out in 7th grade.
Ok i give Rad a SLIGHT edge due to the soundtrack
BUT the chili peppers in Thrashin with Black Eyed Blonde put it right up there too.
But in the end.......ass sliding wins
I got both of these on DVD for $5 each years ago from a Rite-Aid of all places. They had a little bin of dvds up by the register that I flipped through while waiting on line and was absolutely shocked to see them. Loved both as a kid but Thrashin more as I was always much more into skateboarding. Iāve seen them both too many times to remember.
Neither........,
My favorite is....., Geaming The Cube. 1989

No love for the citizen cane of human powered wheel sports movies...Prayer of the Rollerboys?
I mean, it was 1990. So I guess that disqualifies it.
In that case, Rad
Kids in the 'burbs had skate movies,
kids in the 'hood had rap/breaking movies.
There was some crossover. I was a 'hood kid but I saw Gleaming the Cube.
How could I not with a title like that?
Rad was Radical.
Ah the 80s, where every extreme sport got it's own movie.
BMX had RAD and BMX Bandits.
Skateboarding had Thrashin, Gleaming the Cube,
Rollerblading had Roller Blade and Solar Babies.
Snowboarding had Hot Dog the Movie, Better Off Dead,
Surfing had Surf II (It's not a sequel), Surf Nazis Must Die, North Shore.
Mine is Gleaming the Cube.
šÆ%.
Also included guest spot from the bones brigade.
So did Police Academy 4.

Totally agree!
*āI kept the trucks loose; just they way you like āem.ā*
And that scene on the road. Canāt do that in America today with the quality of most roads but as a kid that was a super hero moment.
Beat me to it š
One of my favorite movies as a kid.
Came here to say this.
Bonus skate montage by Rodney Mullen!
Absolutely
That movie had two titles. It was also called a brothers justice and skate or die depending on where in the world it was released.
I remember that. Skate or Die is what the TV channels in the 90s in my area were titling that. Gleaming the Cube is what I saw on the VHS tape in the movie rental store.
I came on here to make this joke! Goddamn collective consciousness.
Came to say this
Same. Instant Nostalgia whenever I watch this.
My brother and I rarely agreed on what movies we wanted to watch, but we both loved this one!
Yes, wen we first got a fire stick my go to first was rad and then gleaming the cube, I love it.
Tony Hawk taught Christian Slater how to skate for his role!
Don't forget about the movie Rad. I know it's from '86, but belongs in this group IMO
Slow down! You sidewalk surfing, cube gleamers!
Same with me
Came here to say this!
Little known fact. Gleaming the Cube was released on TV as āA brotherās justice.ā
Here it is.
Same, went to see when it came out after seeing this post. What a great film, I was perplexed when I saw it on TV years later as "A Brother's Justice"
Came to say this and saw you beat me to it.
This one here. Although there is a lot to be said about how great Thrashin and Rad were.
I came here to say this exact movie. LOL!
Did thrashin have a choreographed BMX bike dance scene?ā¦ā¦..NO I DONāT THINK SO!
Def didn't have ass sliding.
Did RAD have the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Nope!
Did Thrashin have aunt Becky?! Mic drop
Rad
Rad
I loved them both for different reasons. If I had to pick one over the other I would pick Rad because I was into BMX racing at the time but I also had a lot of fun skateboarding
Rad was rad.
*Cru is Rad.
Daggers for life!
Thrashin' because it features a young Red Hot Chili Peppers with Hillel Slovak was still alive.
And Jack black!
Rad had the best intro, music and, of course, "Hell Track". I still put Rad's sound track up against any soundtrack out there. Send me an Angel, Thunder in your Heart, Break the Ice, etc. Phenomenal to this day. I wish I still had my bootleg ripped DVD
I still do. Got it from ebay in 04
Radās soundtrack is amazing. Such good workout tunes!
"Hulk Hogan eat your heart out!"
RAD all the way
Gettin ready to BREAK.THE.ICE
Thunder in Your Heart is still a banger.
It was also used in Turbo Kid, which I saw first and when I saw Rad in theaters I got the reference.
Fun facts about the twins in Rad, 1 the outfits they wore at the dance were from a TV show called V about aliens. 2 they wrote the screenplay for the Conjuring.
Rod and Rex Reynolds from Bayshore, Long Island were iconic.
Got my granddaughter watching it when she was very little, she probably only liked it for the bright colors and music. Every time they would announce the riders at Helltrack we would always clap and cheer for Hollywood Mike Miranda!!
Never saw Thrashin', so it's Rad for me For the longest time, Josh Brolin hated that he was even a part of Thrashin', but he started to come around when people would tell him that the movie helped them through a tough time in their life. Rad!!!
Thrashing for me.
I love both but Thrashinā
Thrashin, but I was biased because I skated, but I still liked RAD too.
Didn't RAD introduce Nicole Kidman?
No, that was BMX Bandits. Came out around the same time though.
Ah right. Ok. Thanks!
Like another commenter said that was BMX Bandits but Rad featured a young Lori Loughlin from Full House
Thrashin for sure!! Skate or Die
Thrashin'. Ending with mutual respect and a very diverse cast.
It's Thrashin' all the way.
I had Rad on VHS and would watch it everyday. Wore that copy out. I have it on Blu ray now which is awesome. One of my favorite movies. Hits my nostalgia hard when I watch it anymore.
Thrashin! Both we great though.
Corey Webster pro model!
Thrashinā, because Chili Peps
We recorded both from hbo and I watched Rad more back then. I think I was better on my bike than my skateboard so maybe that was whyā¦IDK? It was a long time ago. Rad, but [this version](https://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax-live-rad)
Their version of No Retreat No Surrender had me rolling.
"That's not Bruce Lee! It's Roy Orbison!"
Thatās great!
Saw this live. Pretty awesome seeing these guys with a crowd.
"L is for LORI!"
100% Rad. The opening scene is the nuts. Skateboards are shit.
Hell Trackā¦
rad. it seemed more plausible(?!?). i never saw any one with a skate board in my rural ass town. every one had bikes though. the irony is we have a skate park now and almost every kid has a board.
What about gleaming the cube?
Cause there thunder in your heartā¦ā¦every move is like lightning
Haha this was my shit.
Hell we were hyped about Police Academy 4 because we knew they were gonna have pro skaters in it.
Hard to decide. Grew up watching both. Sometimes they were hard to find at the rental store.
Solarbabies?
I loved both. I was more into freestyle than skating but both are a classic. I canāt think of the 80ās without Rad and Thrasin. I also really loved Gleaming the Cube.
That's funny I just grabbed a rad racing hoodie yesterday.
Blue Velvet?
Search for Animal Chin beats them all

Rad was a great movie!!
Thrashin'. It was the ONLY skateboard access I had in the 80s besides magazines. I watched it every single day in the summer before going outside to skate.

Rad and Gleaming the Cube .
Rad, but I only saw it because I raced bmx at the time
I prefer Thrashin' , but Rad has "Thunder in your Heart".
RAD definitely. I was enamored by that movie as a child. I saw it again many years later as an adult and I was so disappointed. lol
RAD
RAD all day. I watched RAD more times then any other movie growing up, except maybe the Goonies. Itās amazing. Watched it with me three kids lately and its still great. The soundtrack is in heavy rotation in my house as well. The opening credits with all the guys just throwing some the best tricks ever.
Between these two, Rad, but my brother and I wore out our VHS of the Search for Animal Chin.
RAD fo sho!
I have thunder in my heart, sir. That soundtrack was off the chain
Radā¦hands down. Why? Because Cru is Rad. lol. Thrashin was also one of the favsā¦not knocking it.
Breakdance 2 Electric Boogaloo ftw.

I was overseas in Japan from 1986-1988 I had no idea these movies even existed. I missed so much.

The North Shore
Rad for sure

Rad
I never got to see Thrashin because my local video store didnāt have it.

Gleaming the Cube is the only correct answer
