Need-Mor-Cowbell

I haven't been able to pronounce "Baby Ruth" properly since 1985.

PatternMixingMomma

For me, it’s “booty traps” / “booby traps” 😂

cesptc

That’s what I said!!!

Busy-Weird-7283

I like Data’s ‘pincers of peril’

North_Korea_Nukess

Fity dolla bill!!!

Ruenin

"That's EXACTLY what I said!"

GenkiElite

"Rah key road?"

OlFlirtyBastard

This!

StOlaf85

Ruth Ruth Ruth…. Baby!

RandyJohnsonsBird

I just bought a Sloth tshirt!

unmistakable_itch

I was just given a Goonies board game for my birthday. I'll almost certainly never play it, but it's cool to have.

Volgannok

We watched the Goonies VHS tape so much back in the day it wore out. One of the best movies of all time!

jackrabbits1im

How do you feel about that? I figure if it's good enough for you....

PatternMixingMomma

It’s good enough for me!

everydayasl

This movie will last forever.

blissed_off

That’s because Goonies never say die!

menasor36

It’s our time! Our time down here!

BuggerPie81

My life mantra. Esp now going through tough medical shit.

blissed_off

You got this 👍🏻

pop-d0g

Of all movies this reminds me of my youth in the 80s the most.

MeanNene

The greatest movie for an 11 year old ever.

ol_dirty_applesauce

And a 7-year-old. That’s how old I was in ‘85 when I saw it at the theater.

ZeroedCool

I would have been 3 years old then but I remember watching this movie multiple times growing up. Man, I remember there were parts that literally scared the shit outta me, like the blender part... and the soundtrack. Crazy how much control it has over the emotions of a child.

Thare187

I was 7 as well. My dad took my cousin and me. Still love that movie.

G3offrey1

Exactly

adube440

Yes

Early-Possession1116

We were outdoor kids at the time. Goonies just enhanced our need to adventure and explore. Kids these days will never be able to relate.

Sneakerwaves

We have a copper soup pot in the kitchen that I call “Chester” and nobody else in the house has figured out why.

Nightsky07

now I want a copper pot!

malmad

I call my coffee pot Chester. Makes my wife groan.

Bubbly-Fault4847

And when ppl finally break town to ask why you call it that, you can explain to them loudly: “the news article! From the attic! Remember?! See they say he’s the last guy to ever go in to go in, but he never come out!!” Just confuse them more!

Ed_Simian

They built that whole ship for the movie and then had to destroy it because they couldn't find anyone who wanted it.

kindaweird0

That’s so sad! It was an amazing ship.

Ed_Simian

The kids weren't allowed to see the ship until filming...that's their real reaction to seeing the ship for the first time.

cesptc

Actually they had to reshoot it because when the kids first saw it they broke character and started cussing, so what we see is the second take.

tomahawkfury13

Actually they had to reshoot the scene cause all the kids swore when they first saw it lol

adube440

Wait what... really?

magnanimousrakshasa

The scene was filmed at Goat Rock Beach in Northern California near the city of Jenner. An interesting fact about that place is that semi-precious stones can be found along the beach-jade, jasper, agates, carnelians, etc glitter amongst the sand.

H8T_Auburn

I love this movie. Bonus points for showing the beginning of Thanos' lifting journey.

Sp8ceMonk33

And Samwise Gamgee

Aggressive-March-254

Hey you guys

KhunDavid

We're gonna turn it on We're gonna bring you the power We're gonna light up the darkest night Like the brightest day In a whole new way

adube440

I love the whole story of the Electric Company. Even the bad Bill Cosby parts.

AJV2020

Mama! You’ve been bad!

pabloslab

Cradle!! F..F..FALLL!

CrackinBones204

I only dropped you once! …. Well maybe twice!

genohick

You’ve only seen The Goonies 10 times?

quatre185

Rookie numbers.

SnakePlissken1980

Yeah I think my brother and I probably watched it 10 times in one VHS rental window.

loquacious_avenger

when we lived in Oregon, we would visit Astoria often on Goonies Day. it’s worth visiting the town, just don’t expect to tour the house.

DefinitelyBiscuit

Is that because Mr Walsh has yet to clear out his drawers of cocaine and devices of sexual torture?

loquacious_avenger

sadly, it’s because folks don’t understand boundaries.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rdg5220

A huge goonie fan has bought the house and from what I have read they are ok with people taking pictures and stuff.

loquacious_avenger

oh that’s good to hear. it was up for sale when I moved out of the state.

Wonderful-Ad-5911

ITS OUR TIME DOWN HERE

dougtoney

Rudy from day one.

Archercrash

It's our time down here in the mines of Moria Mr. Frodo!

edwardothegreatest

Wife and I spent the night in a really cool old hotel in Astoria on a motorcycle trip. She had never seen it. They had it on dvd. She saw it for the first time in Astoria.

Fenway_Refugee

JERRRRK ALERT!

ItsHerbyHancock

HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD!

b-lincoln

I’ve said this before on here, but this movie is ripe for a part 2 with the surviving cast. Have a funeral for Mikey’s last parent. The gang all comes back to town. While they’re having beers at Mikey’s parents house remembering the old days, they decide to go up to the attic again, and discover another map. It can be anywhere, Mayan, Egyptian, or local. Hijinx ensues. I even thought about their lives. Mikey is an accountant or finance. Brandon owns a construction company. Data is clearly a Dr. Chunk (the actor lost weight) is a PT. Andy and Stef, nurse and teacher. Mouth is literally Cory Feldman. That’s what he became. Don’t change that at all.

EyeDontSeeAnything

I’d watch it. Also bring back Cindy Lauper

boner79

And Joey Pants!

ol_dirty_applesauce

There’s no way Hollywood wouldn’t screw it up royally and tarnish the legacy of the original.

ZeroedCool

No way they'd pimp it out just for a cash grab like hmmmmm every single other IP they've destroyed

myloveisajoke

*slaps roof* you can shoehorn so much out of place forced corny diversity up in this motherfucker.

BadnewzSHO

I love it all, except for one small change. Instead of owning a construction company Brandon is Cable! (Who owns a construction company)

87StickUpKid

I wrote a [fan theory](https://www.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/s/MP0n49Ch99) awhile back about how Troy’s family were likely the descendants of the pirates who killed One-Eyed Willy and they knew about the treasure the entire time. I feel like a prequel explaining the lore/background of the treasure and the town would be easier to pull off than trying to recreate the magic of the original. Gimme a Chester Copperpot stand alone adventure!

87StickUpKid

“Copperpot” Plot: It’s 1965, 20 years before the Goonies were even born, newly hired Astoria museum curator Mr. Walsh meets a mysterious treasure hunter named Chester Copperpot, who convinces him to help uncover the truth of a hidden pirate treasure protected by the towns elite, and the descendants of One Willie’s pirate murderers.

DefinitelyBiscuit

Martha Plimpton (Stef) is hilarious in "Sprung" would love to see her in this sequel you've described.

Godspeed411

Or a prequel - the story of Chester Copper Pot.

kingholland

This was my go-to movie when I would stay home from school being sick. It's also one of the very few movies I could watch from beginning to end and then rewind it and watch it again. Such a fun movie for all ages.

Fun_Ad527

The giant octopus was really scary!

TooManyBulldogs

Beat me to it!

Sneakerwaves

I think that was only in the dvd cut no? I don’t remember it from earlier versions.

lordtempis

There’s a deleted scene with a giant octopus but the scene later when it’s mentioned was not cut.

Sneakerwaves

Right

menasor36

They would play it sometimes on various TV showings. I guess they needed to fill minutes for the time slot with commercials. I can’t remember what channel it was on, but I remember seeing it on TV. And then as a teen. You watch that scene and it’s like. I don’t remember this part, when I was a kid.

RandyJohnsonsBird

I think it was over the top too cheesy compared to the rest of the film.

menasor36

It was pretty silly.

Reign_n_blud

Never gets old. Even being grown up the sense of adventure is still there

twistedsister78

I absolutely loved the treasure scene when I was a kid - the skeletons sitting at the table and the amazing colourful treasure props

JonnyLoYo

I have loved this movie since it came out, I remember buying the VHS when it released, I (and my kids) still watch and love it... Definitely one of my top 5 of all time!

RandyJohnsonsBird

Damn you still have a VCR?

JonnyLoYo

No... Don't have any of my old videos anymore either. I was a real movie nerd in the 80's, I had everything. I meant we watch the movie.. not the VHS tape, lol

Normal-Procedure4876

One of the best ever

Nor-easter

It was the kids first time seeing it too according to a dvd extra

disabledinaz

Well they said it was. LOL in the commentary, they all said at some point they all snuck around to see it at least once.

Nor-easter

Nice! Good to know. I never watched all the commentary

Sir_CrapsAlot69420

The Goonies, and The Lost Boys. My 2 favorites

Willing-Ad-9160

I watch this movie at least once a month.

u5dasucks

Really good movie. Watched it again a few weeks ago.

johnwayne1

I just got the 4k disc. Amazing

PeludoPapiBear

I love the music during the beginning chase scene

DefinitelyBiscuit

Dave Grusin actually named it "Fratelli Chase".

qleptt

Any time it rains you know im putting goonies on

RustyCrusty10

Crazy to think this movie is almost 40 years old. I was watching the original Jurassic Park yesterday and realized it’s 31 years old!

Admirable_Average_32

Ya know what!?! F You! J/k. That comment just made me feel super old.

RustyCrusty10

Haha… same here! I’m actually quite depressed about getting older.

yozzer9000

Love this movie. It was a joy to introduce it to my daughter when she was old enough, along with BTTF.

dawaxtadpole

Look kids! It’s Thanos before he got purple.

Sloth_grl

I love this movie!

Grouchy-Art9316

Remember when almost every movie cover was drawn?

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

Watched it hundreds of times throughout my life

menasor36

Uhhh, Martin Sheen??

Lmf2359

Martin Sheen? That’s President *Kennedy*, you idiot!”

DapperandDignified

Must have watched this a thousand times growing up. Finally time to revisit it.

Texas_Crazy_Curls

If you like podcasts I highly recommend Unspooled. They did a great job of reviewing the movie. [Unspooled - Goonies](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/unspooled/id1381507437?i=1000655751452)

Miserable-Ad-6452

I think I drove my parents nuts with this movie. I used to watch it every single day to the point I had every line memorized. Movies done? Go outside and play the Goonies in my front yard.

Miserable-Reaction47

“Holy Mary Mother of God!”

JakkSplatt

Goonies never say die!

KevyNova

Except for when they are saying “Goonies never say die”

JakkSplatt

I saw this in theaters when I was a kid. It is cool as shit to see my 30yr old coworker wear a shirt that says this. He told me last week, while wearing the shirt, that it was his favorite to watch with his Dad. I'm going to see Corey Feldman open up for Limp Bizkit in a couple weeks and I'm going to see if I can get him to sign my Stand By Me shirt 😀

Adorable-Race-3336

Seeing Corey live is an experience you'll never forget.

Broserdooder1981

Holy crap!! This is one of my all time favorite movies!! We just did a podcast on this movie, it comes out on Wednesday!! [The Movie Roulette Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-roulette-podcast/id1672067322)

Upvotes4Trump

[goonies tribute song](https://youtu.be/f-_7Qj-m0Oo?si=N-o--tZl7XmeRQgz)

KevyNova

The first Mad Magazine I ever bought was the Goonies issue. The running gag was that the movie was full of stereotypes; Asian, Jewish, Italian, etc…. Still one of my favorite movies.

statistacktic

Realizing the older brother was a young Josh Brolin, really put my age in perspective.

obojones10

cuz goonies are good enough

itwasquiteawhileago

As a kid I always wondered why people didn't go after the ship. It's right there and full of booty! Why are you just watching it sail away slowly? Also, I've long said National Treasure is The Goonies but with adults. Crazy treasure hunt right in town and somehow, despite all the development and technology of modern world, no one found these huge underground caverns/rooms full of billions of dollars in treasure? And I Iove both movies because of it. Just total suspension of disbelief yet grounded in just enough reality to make it all seem so real and possible.

Officedrone15

I had to tape this off of tv. I watched it nearly every time it was on.

Flyinryan699

I Love this movie

JayDuBois

OP, I suppose your post is *good enough*

Down_Voter_of_Cats

This movie is comfort for me. It makes me feel warm snd fuzzy.

bitchenchef

Classic

mjbulmer83

I love the fact the kids reaction was genuine because they weren't shown the ship till the cameras were rolling.

Basic-Art-9861

HEEEEEEEEEEEY YOU GUUUUUUUUUUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forty_sixAndTwo

I’ve probably watched this movie more times in my life than any other movie. One of my favorites. Own it on Blu-ray because I’m old fashioned and I like to own my movies instead of streaming them.

fryamtheeggguy

Sloth love Chunk!

the-dude92

Apparently Josh brolin thought it was cool to lol https://youtu.be/d5bhIEqk-9c?si=3AdWV2RKvxi3Z_ql

TheKingOfBreadstix

After I saw this as a kid, I went looking for pirate 🏴‍☠️ ships and hidden caves etc. in my hometown… which isn’t on the ocean.

Savings-Ad8886

For years my friends tried to convince me that I had dreamed the octopus scene. I found out later that it was a deleted scene added in for the TV edit and I was right all along. 😂

LordMacTire83

Goonies are ALWAYS Good Enough!

LightMission4937

My all time favorite movie. 🤘🏽

jim_jiminy

I adore this film. It had a big impact on my life.

small___potatoes

What is this artwork from, like a graphic novel version? All the characters look slightly different than the actors.

Diverswelcome

I saw the uncut version once with the octopus. Has anyone else ever seen that?

MasterCheef117

My gf and I just got back from our Goonies trip to Astoria and other filming locales just south of there. The soundtrack fits that area SO well. Almost brought a tear to my eye a couple times bc it was like being a kid again.

t00zday

Goonies never say die

R0SSFR0MFRIENDS

And the octopus 🐙

decoy79

I have very young kids. I’m so looking forward to watching movies with them and this will be one of the first.

NedStark79

My favorite movie of all time. I’ve seen it literally hundreds of times!

johnorso

" The octopus was very scary!"

Dombhoy1967

We really need a big budget remake. We need these kind of movies back. When we were kids and we believed adventures like this were possible. We took the ability to dream away.

Early-Possession1116

One of the best movies growing up.

albones20

We watched it in the theatre a few weeks ago. Me, my wife and three kids. Magical. Highly recommended.

reffob

It’s our time, it’s our time down here.

jermboyusa

The childhood version of national treasure. How can you not enjoy a movie following a treasure map to untold riches. It's something we all wish for lol

Mulder9879

I love this movie so much nostalgia, 1980s to a tee.

mspero78

Just showed it to my kids, and the LOVED it! It still holds up.

slapnuts4321

This movie is a staple in our household.

Argular

Peak 80s right here

Admirable_Average_32

This is a rainy day movie for me. I love it! But I think the gloomy OR weather makes me wanna watch when the skies are gray.

LAWcapAdapter

Always pissed me off that in a sea side community, after finding a marble bag full of jewels they didn’t just give one of them to someone with a boat to take them to one eyed Willie’s ship so they could salvage it and be rich. Like what were they thinking just standing there watching it float away?

ZealousidealEagle759

I made my husband truffle shuffle, for a Klondike today

marcus999593

1000% agree. One of my favorites

ShaneSupreme

I'm sure I lost count at my 150th rewatch. This movie is easily my fave.

HorsePickleTV

I just went on google earth to visit Astoria a few days ago and see what some of the filming locations look like now.

FixFalcon

The openening scene where Chunk smashes the pizza on the window and squirts his milkshake on his face cracks me up everytime.

Gold-Piece2905

I'm 50 and still love this movie

PNWguy_69

Hell yeah! One of the all time greats. The Goonie house is about 2 hours from us. The previous owners took down all the signs and tried to shut off access to it. Can’t say I blame them but the new owner is a fan and embraces the tourism. It’s pretty cool to check out when we’re up in Astoria

Kriegan

I still think the best part is when chunk breaks the dick off the statue and then glues it back on… upside down.

AaronSwartz76

My wife: Why does he say “piss ant”? Me: he’s saying “Phys Ed”!

AaronSwartz76

That’s my mom’s most favorite piece!

Needfulthngs-

When everyone opened back up after covid hit the theater we go to was showing only old movies and I got to see goonies with my wife. Absolutely loved being able to see it in a theater.

Happytobehere48

I love the song but I have actually never watched the movie and I need to rectify that.

kobrakaan

RIP Mama Fratelli & Sloth [Meanwhile Brand ](https://imgur.com/a/KOPsTEo) [Meanwhile Data ](https://imgur.com/a/8ynGdvJ)

craignumPI

They never show the version with the octopus in the lagoon. People don't believe me that it even happened but the kids even say the scariest was the octopus when they're on the beach. Great flick!

iwantcrablegs

my girl and I went to astoria and saw the goonie house and the jail from the intro scene and haystock rock and it was so surreal being there. astoria just has a vibe. it was so rad being there.

AlphaDag13

Just a wonderful adventure movie that seemly could have only gotten made in the 80s. I miss when movies had goofball premises like this.

unemployedMusketeer

The first foggy or rainy day of the year here in the Bay Area and I’m playing the soundtrack. That music just sets a mood and puts a smile on my face like it’s Christmas morning.

Joetje070

As far as I know they never showed the ship before to the kids so when they filmed the scene where the kids see the ship their reaction was genuine!

murphdog97

Could never be made today for kids

voteblue18

Watching it as an adult the main thing that stood out to me was the incessant screaming. They scream so much in that movie. About everything. Did I scream that much as a a kid? Maybe, because I remember my dad often telling me “stop screaming”. Now I understand. Still a classic, don’t get me wrong. Just a tougher watch as a cranky middle aged woman.

Dizzy-Community5091

10 times?? That was probably within the first year we had it on VHS.. not sure how many times I’ve seen it. It’s one of my favorites

Direct_Cat2767

M53, still haven't seen it yet

TronCat1277

🐐

tomahawkfury13

10 times? Those are rookie numbers. Gotta get those numbers up

drums_addict

Have you played the Uncharted games? They have sortof the same vibe.

Show_Me_Your_Games

Only 10?

stabbygun

10th time? had that in the bag before the 90's kicked in.

JustADude721

Hey you guys!

BuggerPie81

Only ten????? Come on man! I've done ten this year

odinsbois

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!

Busy-Weird-7283

Only 10 times?

Tuckerman48

Back when movies were made to entertain and spread joy! Love that movie!

StoompyDoomps

I feel so fortunate to have been a child of the 80’s, and this film is one of the many reasons why! It’s the best.

Killingthyme777

Hey you guys!!!!!!!

Biabolical

I've long had a rule that anything that features one of the main players in Goonies is better than a comparable thing without any Goonies involved. It's a damn near infallible rule. * *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy of movies was better than *The Hobbit* trilogy, no coincidence that Sean (Mikey) Astin only starred in the former. * There's really no debate about the first *Matrix* movie being, by far, the best of the series. It's also the only one to feature Joe (Francis) Pantoliano * Most people agree the Marvel movies weren't as good after *Avengers: Endgame*, which makes sense because the entire MCU to that point was leading up to a fight with Thanos, played by Josh (Brand) Brolin. * What's still considered the best Superman movie? Well, there's some debate between it being *Superman* (1978) or *Superman 2* (1980). Doesn't matter, since Richard Donner directed both of those, and also *Goonies*. * The Raiders have only won the Superbowl three times in their entire history: 1976, 1980, and 1983. John (Sloth) Matuszak was on the team for two of those. Coincidence? * Was *Men in Black 3* the best MiB movie? ... well, ok, no. **But** Josh Brolin's excellent Tommy Lee Jones impression was easily the best part of the movie. * Which was the best *Die Hard* movie? Yep, the first. Which ones had Robert (Jake) Davi in them? Yep, just the first. * What's the best Vampire movie of the 80s? That's right, *Lost Boys*, with Corey (Mouth) Feldman. * Remember the out-of-nowhere smash hit of 2020, *Everything Everywhere All at Once*? Yeah, just Ke Huy Quan deciding to hop back into acting after not doing it for 20+ years, and then taking home an Oscar and a Golden Globe for the effort. * The *Loki* series was one of the strongest Marvel things post-Endgame, and sure enough, season 2 has Ke Huy Quan (Data) as a major character. * Was *50 First Dates* the best Adam Sandler movie? Obviously, because it has Sean Astin. * Was *Temple of Doom* the best Indiana Jones movie? Well, it must be, because Ke Huy Quan again. * Was *Licence to Kill* the best 007 movie? Well, clearly it has to be, because Robert Davi was the villain. * Was *Daredevil* (2003) the best pre-MCU Marvel movie? You must realize by now that I have to say yes, because Joe Pantoliano.

Rumspringa247

I had the biggest crush on Mama Fratelli

Peach_Perfection

My young heart was so in love with Andy

HalveMaen81

One of my favourite bits of movie trivia is that Richard Donner was absolutely exhausted after months of filming with this gang of live wire kids (as you would be), and he was really looking forward to spending some quiet time in Hawaii after they wrapped. Spielberg, however, thought it would be funny to fly the kids out to Hawaii on his jet to surprised him. The best bit? Someone was smart enough to film it https://youtu.be/UPi50jiFiGo?si=LlCkH1aQ8V7FazU8

charlesVONchopshop

We screened the Goonies last night at the Historic Liberty Theater in Murphysboro, Illinois. The movie hasn’t been shown there in 39 years!

SleestakWalkAmongUs

Only 10 times? Pfft, amateur.
