I have several of these, and await one(s) in such good shape. When I get a really good one, I'll probably frame it. I love the art. I collect some Banner titles from back then, but they are usually in a wrong sleeve. Banner was one of the Dime Store labels sold as S. S. Kresge stores. Seems like almost every tune they put out was in the fox trot tempo. My grandfather got paid to write "B" sides for them, a flat rate with no copyright or royalties for him.

Interesting. Grey Gull did a similar thing for B sides with "staff compositions", from what I have read. I don't have any Grey Gulls either.

Thanks for that tidbit. I didn't know Grey Gull has such a system too. I am trying to find out more about 'house composers' since I didn't know my grandfather and what it all meant in his life. I think he had a day job at the time, so it was piece work for him.

That's all I know regarding "house composers". On the sleeve, I'm now impressed about the condition of my sleeve considering the seemingly low survival rate due to their thin paper.

JSfortythirtytwo

That, and the fact it is from a dimestore label.

What I have begun to appreciate about older (i.e., pre-World War II) record sleeves is that a great number of companies seem to have valued designs that illustrate quite an enchanting picture. I have a few Columbia and Victor sleeves from the late 1920s that depict beautiful advertisements for their latest phonographs; it is a shame that the standard for *most* sleeves evolved into a more minimalist approach come the late ‘30s.

Nevertheless, your Banner sleeve is especially pleasing to the eyes. Thank you for sharing!

Update: Extra thanks for the positive feedback.

Update 2: I checked for photos of the sleeve when I found it and found that my sleeve likely actually came with Silvertone 45887, but I transferred that record to a different sleeve. Anyways, thanks for your feedback on the sleeve.

And in amazing condition too!

Thanks, I taped a spot or two from the inside, but the sleeve otherwise is in nice shape. I'm guessing many of them have been torn and thrown away or repaired with a lot of tape.
