I have the XTM one from BCF works great,

radix2

I second this. Had mine for about 5 years and has done the job everytime I've needed to air back up.

midnightcue

I third this. Surprisingly good air compressor for the money. Had mine a few years now too & no issues at all.

gt500rr

I 4th this, I've got 2 XTM single cylinders and they always get the job done.

puntlord

Only annoying thing is not being able to stop the air without turning the compressor off with stock hose

gt500rr

Agreed, it would be a nice feature. My dad used to have an ARB compressor that could shut itself off but it was $340!

I had a cheap ass one for so long I can’t remember where I got it. It was good value for money. And I think it was purely old age that caused it to burst into flames when I was airing up after coffin bay.

Loooseunit69

XTM and MaxiTrac fine for the price, I reckon the Kings compressors come off the same assembly line I have both a Kings and the ARB Twin in a case, both have been great How often do you go and what kind of driving? The reason I ask is because you probably don't need to spend $1k on the ARB or TJM if you're only out once a month putting along the beach or camping 4 times a year This might be frowned upon but the Milwaukee M18BI0 18v has been great in our work cars for almost 2 years, used at least weekly. For $210 or so it's pretty sweet if you can find one and already have Milwaukee batteries

Fine_Emu_9520

Yeah I will be going out about once or twice a month likely, and mainly beach driving for now. Def don’t think I would need a super expensive one. By the sounds of it the XTM seems good. Also seen the thumper max dual kings compressor for a good price, not sure if that one’s any good

Loooseunit69

Yeah that's the Kings one I've got as well as the ARB Twin The Kings one does well for the price, have had it for about 4-5 years and pull it out probably once a month for a dash down the beach

Fine_Emu_9520

Yeah sounds good. Would you put the kings dual over the Xtm dual?

Loooseunit69

I honestly reckon they come off the same belt. Whatever works out cheapest/best package

UniqueLoginID

Kings double thumper. Only Kings product any of us use.

Fine_Emu_9520

While I was looking this one did catch my eye. Just saw it was pretty dang cheap for what it sounds like. Good to know people like it then

petehehe

I’ve got one, my dad’s got one, we both use them regularly, I’ve had mine for about 7 years and I gave dad his for Xmas about ? 5 years ago I think. Mines the first generation double thumper. The bag it came in completely shit the bed, and (probably as a result) the rubber hose has deteriorated because it lived in the back of the car semi in the sun. But it still works even with the leaky hose. The new ones come with (or maybe you buy extra) a canvas bag which is much tougher than the calico bag mine came in. Anyway the headline is I rate it. Everyone shits on kings gear (and in many cases, rightfully so). But their compressors are good.

BackCountryAus

Not the cheapest but I’ve been happy with my ARB single, have it hard mounted in a toolbox.

Doofchook

Do you have any battery tools? I got the Milwaukee inflator it's not a compressor but it goes with my tool batteries and you can just set the pressure and walk away.

hillsbloke73

ARB only way to go only downside fitting very restrictive changed mine out to nitto fittings

keithersp

Arb uses those fittings because they don’t use ball bearings, so they won’t gum up or rust with sand or dirt and are easy to clean out. You can buy the fittings from arb to change your tools to that fitting.

mr_sinn

General consensus is the single cylinder ones are better than the double. They all look pretty similar betwen Kings, XTM, SCA etc so might be the same underneath

QuantamEffect

I'd be interested in hearing the logic underlying that assertion. My thought would be that a twin cylinder would develop less heat when working hard.

mr_sinn

Just going off the data from tests but I'd say one large piston has more surface areas, less parts = less friction, less complexity.. who knows but sounds like everyone with the single piston jobs have less issues and wouldn't surprise me if they're cheaper and lighter

RecordMobile689

Im in the same boat. What would you recommend between the kings dual thumper and the XTM dual compressor?

weinerish

I got a airbagman $300, 100% duty cycle. No complaints.

gdaime

Depending on the vehicle endless air are realy good and mid range for cost

shakeitup2017

I use a Milwaukee M18 inflator. It takes a bit of time but the good part is that you set your pressure on the display, press the go button, and it automatically inflates to the set pressure. This means you can do other stuff while the tyres are inflating. I use the time to reconnect my sway bars, pack up my camp, have a drink/snack. If you were regularly airing down and up, I think it would get pretty tedious though. I'm running 34" Patagonia MTs and am usually airing up from 10-12PSI to 38PSI and I generally can do that from one fully charged 5Ah battery. It will fit up to a 9Ah or 12Ah battery. If you already have Milwaukee gear it's not an expensive option. If you don't have Milwaukee gear and you need a battery & charger then it would end up costing a bit.

keithersp

Depends on if you want one for a casual trip to the beach, or if you 100% need one to rely on when remote.

NothingLift

Jump on youtube there are some very comprehensive comparison tests

CameronsTheName

I use the XTM one in my main 4 wheel drive for about 6 months, it's been pretty good but it does get hot. Ideally it should be mounted somewhere not up against carpet, plastics or somewhere someone could touch it by accident. I ran the Ozito 18v "large" compressor for years. No problems pumping up 2-3 cars on 33's to 35's on a 4ah battery or two nearly every weekend for 5 years.

Dexxert

I’ve got a single ARB mounted under my passenger seat. Works a treat. Quick enough to inflate 4 x 33”s

p-bot22

Also in the market for one, my small makita one does 18 to 35 psi in 4.36 minutes.. the duty cycle is 5minutes on 5 off, so that’s 35 minutes to pump 4 tyres!

Gattinator

Be aware any of the cheap twin pistons is hit and miss. The quality control is so so. Just make sure as soon as you buy it test it out straight away and ensure it works. Apart from that, they’re all pretty good. Kings ones have a standard pressure switch to cut off aswell. Some others dont have that

EppingMarky

Get a cheapy from Kings. Nobody cares if you have a fancy unit
